52 People Killed in Kazakhstan Bus Fire (+Video)

The bus was travelling along a road in Kazakhstan’s north-western Aktau region that links the Russian city of Samara to Shymkent, a city in southern Kazakhstan close to the Uzbek border.

It was unclear in which direction the bus had been travelling, but the route is widely used to transport Uzbek migrant workers to and from Russia where they often work on building sites.

57 people were on board, all of whom are believed to be Uzbek nationals.

Only five people managed to escape the burning vehicle, the interior ministry’s emergencies department said on Thursday.

The ministry said the apparent accident had happened at 10.30am local time (0430 GMT), but provided no details about its cause.

A photograph posted online from the site showed the bus completely burnt out, Reuters reported.

Video footage also showed it positioned diagonally across a two-lane road in the middle of a snow-covered steppe, in flames and emitting heavy black smoke.

OIC Lawmakers Blast Trump’s al-Quds Bid as Threat to World Peace

“We consider this measure as a threat to the international peace and security and an all-out violation of the unalienable rights of the Palestinian nation and a futile measure which distressed Muslims, Christians and all the free-thinking human beings across the world,” the 13th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said in its final statement issued in Tehran on Wednesday.

In December 2017, Trump said Washington was recognizing Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of Israel and planning to relocate the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.

Washington’s dramatic U-turn on Jerusalem al-Quds drew global condemnations, prompting the UN General Assembly to overwhelmingly approve a resolution against Trump’s declaration.

The entire Jerusalem al-Quds is currently under Israel’s control, while the regime also claims the city’s eastern part, which hosts the third holiest Muslim site.

The city, which Palestinians want as the capital of their future state, has been designated as “occupied” under international law since the 1967 Arab War.

The OIC parliamentarians expressed support for the Palestinian nation and their resistance movement in all forms as long as the Palestinian people’s right to return to their homeland and form an independent government with East Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital has not been restored.

The statement called on the Inter-Parliamentary Union to revoke the membership of Israel’s Knesset as a punitive measure for the regime’s violation of international law.

The Muslim lawmakers also condemned Trump’s “racist” statements against the people of color and his efforts to link Islam to global terrorism, expressing concern over divisive measures which create misperception among different civilizations and religions.

The OIC legislators also expressed concern over the grave humanitarian crisis in Yemen and underlined the need for efforts to find a political solution for the crisis and expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the country.

The statement also slammed the blatant violation of the rights of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and the ongoing ethnic cleansing of the Muslim minority. It urged the government of the country to immediately put an end to the atrocities and respect the fundamental human rights and freedoms of all without any racial and religious discrimination.

The Muslim parliamentarians also called on the OIC governments to establish a new economic system based on Islamic unity and lay the groundwork for promotion of financial and economic ties among all the member states.

Iran to Display Its Handicrafts in Japan Gift Show

The exhibition is slated to be held in Tokyo Bay in two consecutive weeks – from January 31 to February 3 and from February 7 to 9 – in Big Sight International Exhibition.

With the main theme of “A Happier Life with a Better Interior Design and Furniture”, the exhibition will also be attended by Iranian handicraft artists, a Farsi report by Mehr News Agency said.

The booth of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be set up in the second week. The Gift Show 2018 is widely deemed by Iranian artists as the best gate to enter Japan’s handicrafts market.

Representative of Iran’s Tourism Information Centre Abbas Ali Emamieh said Iran’s booth will be set up on a 54-square-metre land in Big Sight showcasing the Iranian artists’ handicrafts.

With 4,093 booths, Japan’s Gift Show is even larger than Paris Maison with 2,871 booths and New York Exhibition with 2,600 booths, he added.

According to Emamieh, Gift Show 2018 has a 22-percent growth compared with previous year.

“Iranian artists take part in the exhibition with the aim of introducing Iran’s handicrafts to the foreigners and preparing the grounds for building partnership with some international trade groups,” he noted.

The Iranian official underlined that to compete at an international exhibition like Gift Show 2018, the Iranian art pieces need to have high quality.

“If we are to have some share in the global market, we need to unveil quality pieces,” he concluded.

Iran Gov’t Resolved to Implement Clean Air Law

Speaking in a conference on the implementation of the act held at Tehran’s DOE headquarters on Tuesday, Isa Kalantari added that the department will implement the Clean Air law “at any cost”, ISNA reported.

The law is highly likely to arouse the opposition of groups that will possibly incur losses as a result of restrictions, but Kalantari stressed that his department will stand firm in its implementation.

“Even if it raises an outcry from any automaker, syndicate, guild or factory, we will enforce it,” he said.

Environmental protection laws may hamper production, impede self-sufficiency targets and even lead to job losses.

Kalantari noted that although DEO is responsible for supporting sustainable development and improving the state of employment in the country, it is also tasked with ensuring clean air for everyone as a civil right.

“Based on data from the Health Ministry, some 29,000 people lose their lives every year, thanks to air pollution,” he said, adding that upholding this law is a national duty although challenges may arise.

Kalantari called on the DOE personnel to prepare for a “major confrontation” in the process of enforcing the law.

“Once the law becomes operational, you will be under intense pressure,” he warned.

According to Kalantari, the first group to resist the law will definitely be governor generals followed by lawmakers and governors.

“Provincial DOE directors must hold their ground against these groups. They must not fear or give political and financial enticements to anyone,” he said.

The DOE chief had earlier delegated full authority to the heads of provincial offices to reduce cumbersome bureaucracy and accelerate the procedures of environmental protection.

He noted that provincial directors will not need the approval of DOE headquarters and should waste no time in doing what the law mandates.

Kalantari, who doubles as vice president, emphasized that these laws may not be sufficient to curb environmental problems unless their implementation is guaranteed.

“The enforcement of law is more important than its mere existence,” he said pointing to the law on fair distribution of water passed in 1982 that has not been fully enforced until this day.

“The illegal withdrawal of surface and groundwater resources is only an example of the law being ignored,” Kalantari said.

Iran’s 7-Month Industrial Exports Jump by 3.3%

According to a report published by Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, citing the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade’s data, chemical products had the largest share of total exports with $6.12 billion and exports of communications devices saw the highest year-on-year growth of around 200%.

Iran exported 72.24 million tons of non-oil commodities worth $24.65 billion during the period to register a 4.34% rise YOY, the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration announced.

Enemies Seeking to Sideline Palestine Issue: Top Iranian Cleric

Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani called for further solidarity among Muslim countries, saying the unity should be so fundamental that neither the US president nor the Israeli prime minister could hatch up a new plot against the city of Jerusalem al-Quds.

“We should not allow the enemies to distract our attentions from the important issue of Palestine as the main concern of the Islamic world by raising some trivial and secondary issues,” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by Mehr News Agency.

Back in November, US president Donald Trump said Washington recognizes Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital. The decision backed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sparked fierce protests in many cities across the world.

The Iranian cleric also warned the seminaries in Iran against involving in some marginal issues set forth by the enemies, and added, “Religious students in the seminaries need to remain focused on the main issues which are of significant importance in the country and the world.”

Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani then called on people from all walks of life in Iran to remain resilient against the enemies and put their focus on the main issues of the Islamic world.

The religious figure referred to the latest riots in a number of Iranian cities and said people are entitled to protest peacefully against economic woes. “But unfortunately the enemies seek to take advantage of the public dissatisfaction for their own gain through cyberspace.”

He finally praised the Iranian nation’s loyalty to the Islamic Republic.

Iran Plans to Attract 20m Foreign Tourists Annually

Iranian Vice-President and Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), Ali Asghar Moonesan, says according to the Sixth National Development Plan, the government intends to raise the number of foreign tourists from 5 million to 20 million per year.

Visiting Madrid to attend Fitur International Tourism Fair, Moonesan said during his stay in the Spanish capital, he is set to hold talks with tourism officials from the participant countries and explore ways for promotion of ties with them, a Farsi report by IRNA said.

He called for expansion of advertisement and promotional campaigns to further present Iran’s tourism capacities to the world.

The Iranian official underlined that attracting tourists from Europe, China, Turkey as well as neighbouring and Islamic countries is high on the agenda of Iran’s tourism plan.

The Iranian vice-president also said by attending international tourism exhibitions, the Iranian travel agencies from private sector can establish cooperation with their foreign counterparts with the aim of attracting more foreign tourists.

He praised the Fitur fair as one of the leading tourism exhibitions in the world, adding the Islamic Republic of Iran takes part regularly in the exhibition.

During the 38th round of Fitur fair, Iran is putting on display its latest achievements and capacities in the field of tourism.

The exhibition kicked off on January 17 and will be open to visitors until January 20.

“Iranian Police Didn’t Have Live Bullets in Recent Riots”

Crowds of peaceful protestors took to the streets in several Iranian cities as of December 28 to show disgruntlement at economic problems, including high prices, unemployment and corruption. But the street gatherings soon took a violent turn in some cities, as a result of which 21 people lost their lives.

Speaking on the sidelines of a conference in Tehran Wednesday, Iran’s Police Chief Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari denied speculations that the victims were killed during clashes between police forces and rioters.

The commander said police officers tasked with controlling the protests were ordered to show restraint and act professionally to avoid unnecessary tensions.

“None of our officers were carrying live bullets. Besides, experienced personnel were deployed [to control the protests] and the arrests were made selectively,” ISNA quoted the top commander as saying in a Farsi report.

“The deaths were suspicious and [the related cases] are under investigation”.

Some protesters vandalized public property and launched attacks on police stations and government buildings during the wave of sporadic violence, prompting intervention by police forces.

Police detained hundreds of demonstrators during the protests, but most of them have been released in recent weeks.

Some officials have suggested the violent clashes were instigated by small groups of rioters led by foreign intelligence agencies.
