Iran Limits Foreign Currency Allocated to Those Travelling Abroad

According to Iran’s Customs Office, from now on, the departing Iranian travellers are allowed to carry foreign currencies, bank documents and bonds worth up to €5,000 through aerial borders and €2,000 through other borders.

Ali Ma’qouli, the Director General of Import Department at Iran’s Customs Office, has introduced the new regulations for allocating foreign currencies to Iranian travellers, a report by Khabar Online said.

Referring to the letter by Deputy Governor of Iran’s Central Bank, the new regulation calls for making certain reforms to the directives for foreign currencies allocated to Iranian travellers.

Meanwhile, based on the new instructions, the regulation is binding in all entrances and exits across the country.

The new regulations have been coordinated with Iran’s Bank Melli and the Economy Ministry’s Anti- Money Laundering Centre.

Iran, Armenia Must Expand Mutual Cooperation: President

In the phone call, Rouhani stressed the need for more efforts to tap the existing capabilities and potentials in Iran and Armenia to deepen the bilateral relations in various areas.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to expand relations and cooperation with its neighbors,” he added.

Rouhani also pointed to US President Donald Trump’s recent move to leave the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said the unilateral action by the US was against international regulations and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.

He added that the Islamic Republic would remain committed to the JCPOA provided that the remaining parties guarantee its interests.

The Armenian premier, for his part, said his country attaches great significance to the development of friendly relations with Iran based on mutual respect.

The JCPOA guarantees peace and stability in the region, Pashinyan said, stressing that Armenia has never been, nor will ever be, involved in any move against Iran.

In a speech from the White House on Tuesday, Trump accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism and seeking nukes before announcing the US withdrawal from the nuclear accord.

Following the controversial decision, Rouhani said Iran weighs plans to remain in the agreement with the other five parties, namely Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany, provided that the remaining JCPOA parties ensure its full benefits for Iran.

In an open session of the Iranian Parliament on Wednesday morning, a number of lawmakers set fire to the JCPOA and to the US flag in a symbolic gesture of protest.

Iran Reminds UK PM Europe’s Time to Save JCPOA Limited

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is following its own national interests by honoring the JCPOA, unfortunately other parties have not carried out their obligations in a satisfactory manner,” said Rouhani on Sunday, during a phone call with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

He added that his country is adamant that its interests must be ensured in accordance to the 2015 deal after the US withdrawal.

The Iranian president further stressed that Tehran has always complied with its obligations while the other parties to the deal have not done so.

“In the JCPOA both parties have certain obligations, it is not acceptable that only one party carries out its obligations,” he added.

He also said that Washington’s move to ditch the deal was very irresponsible.

In her turn, May told Rouhani that British government is committed to ensuring the nuclear deal is preserved.

“[May said] it is in both the UK and Iran’s national security interests to maintain the deal and welcomed President Rouhani’s public commitment to abide by its terms, adding that it is essential that Iran continues to meet its obligations,” said a Downing Street spokesperson.

Earlier in the day, Rouhani said that Iran will remain in the 2015 nuclear deal if other parties to the agreement guarantee the country’s interests.

“If the remaining five countries which have been accompanying us in this agreement live up to their commitments and guarantee that Iran’s interests will be fulfilled, the agreement will remain despite the will of America and the Zionist regime,” he said.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump announced that the US was walking away from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which he described as a horrible deal.

Trump also said he would reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

Iran has said it would remain in the JCPOA for now, pending negotiations with the other signatories in the coming weeks before making a final decision on its future role in the agreement.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has embarked on a whirlwind diplomatic tour to gauge international readiness to guarantee Iran’s interests if it decides to remain in a nuclear deal after US withdrawal.

Zarif departed for Beijing in the early hours of Sunday before heading to Moscow and Brussels to hold meetings with the remaining parties to the 2015 agreement, his spokesman said.

Zarif began the tour on President Hassan Rouhani’s order to sound out Europe and other parties to the JCPOA about the possibility of keeping the deal in place. Iran wants the Europeans to give it clear-cut guarantees about fulfilling their obligations if Tehran remains in the deal.

“The European countries should give us guarantees that in spite of the US withdrawal from the JCPOA, the interests of the Iranian nation will still be protected,” IRNA quoted Zarif as telling reporters upon arrival in Beijing.

Russian Scholar Amazed by Enthusiasm of Bookworms in Iran

Expressing her interest in Persian language and the positive experience of her first visit to the Tehran Book Fair, Oksana Vodneva said, “In other countries of the world, it is so hard to find such exhibitions, so I should congratulate the organizers of the exhibition.”

“I have travelled to this beautiful country many times, but this is the first time I come to attend Tehran Book Fair,” said Vodneva, according to a report by IBNA.

Comparing Tehran International Book Fair with exhibitions held in Russia, she said, “The degree of welcoming such cultural events is unparalleled in Iran. I was wondered by the diversity of visitors. Little kids come here and review the books. This is very interesting to me.”

Vodneva says she is somewhat familiar with Persian language.

Russian Scholar Amazed by Enthusiasm of Bookworms in Iran“I have heard this language being spoken since childhood. When I asked about it, they said this language is called Persian. I would like to be a child who knows Persian next to astronomy. I have to say I love Persian,” she noted.

“Most of the times, I look for Persian electronic books on the Internet. My visit to this exhibition gave me a great opportunity. If I could, I would have bought all the books in this exhibition. But unfortunately there is a 30kg luggage limit and I cannot take more than that.”

Referring to the collaboration of his organization with the National Library of Iran and the Organization of Islamic Culture and Communication, she said “these events are a good start for bilateral activities and research, which can be a great achievement for both countries.”

She also expressed hope that she would be able to attend the fair in the coming years.

The Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, which is Europe’s largest collection of manuscripts, recently attended the 31st Tehran International Book Fair in collaboration with a number of publishers in the city of Saint-Petersburg.

The institute has exhibited 94 pieces of Iranian miniature and calligraphic works, which have recently been registered at the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Iran Denounces Deadly Attack on French Citizens

In a Sunday statement, Qassemi blasted the attack and expressed sympathy with the families of the victims of the terrorist incident.

“The ISIS’ claiming responsibility for this brutal act shows the terrorist group’s insatiable and ruthless desire for being in the spotlight and seeking to survive following back-to-back defeats in the region at the expense of taking innocent lives in every corner of the world, from the Middle East to Europe,”

“Those who, for years and decades, have always shaped the intellectual tenets of, and offered financial and arms support to this terrorist group and other similar groups, are accomplices to, and responsible for these crimes against humanity in whatever place around the globe.”

“World countries should not be influenced by the new false mottos of some of the supporters and promoters of extremist-Takfiri ideologies of such terrorist groups and should not, under the guise of trade and arms sales through a double-standard approach, allow them (terrorists) to keep practicing their destabilizing policies and ideologies with a new and deceitful façade,” he added.

“Undoubtedly, as everybody knows, this kind of terrorism and extremism knows no borders, territory, country and religion, and the world should act in unison to stage an all-out and incessant fight against this evil of the century,” said the spokesman.

A knifeman killed one person and wounded four in a suspected terror attack in central Paris, French officials say.

The attacker was then shot dead by police in the Opéra district. Witnesses say they heard him shout “Allah Akbar”.

ISIS later said one of its “soldiers” had carried out the attack on Saturday evening.

US Embassy Relocation to Intensify Resistance in Occupied Territories: Iran

The foreign ministry’s statement was released on the occasion of the Nakba Day which marks the anniversary of the establishment of the illegitimate Zionist regime of Israel.

The full text of the statement follows.
Since the occupation of Palestinian territories and the formation of the fabricated and racist Zionist regime [of Israel] on May 14, 1948, all humans from every ethnicity, nation and race have witnessed the killing and excessive sufferings of the defenceless people of this land on a daily basis; over the past 70 years, not only has the savage and aggressor Zionist regime committed anti-human crimes against the defenceless Palestinian nation, but it has been the root cause of crises in the region and a real threat to international peace and security, [it has caused] disasters and crises the bitter consequences of which can be seen now in the form of numerous regional crises in different shapes, including the spread of extremism, state terrorism, occupation, aggression, excessive demands and bullying. The regime occupying al-Quds has opted to kill and crack down on Palestinian people at this point in time in order to ensure its hollow security.

The recent crime committed by this regime in killing the Palestinian people taking part in the peaceful March of Return in Gaza is the latest instance of the regime’s constant and ongoing crimes.

Incontrovertibly, the perpetuation of the organised occupation of Palestinian territories and the continuation of this regime’s acts of terror together with the Trump administration’s recent unwise and illegal decision to recognise al-Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime [of Israel] and relocate the US embassy to that place, will only further strengthen the resolution and determination of the oppressed Palestinian nation in confronting and resisting occupation, and will indubitably intensify anti-Zionist and anti-US moves in the region and across the world and increase resistance in occupied territories.

In line with defending the cause of Palestine, as it has always done, the Islamic Republic of Iran categorically condemns the United States’ illegitimate and grudge-driven action, and firmly and deeply believes that Jerusalem al-Quds is an integral part of the Palestinian territories and one of three holy Islamic sites, and efforts to transfer the embassy to that place amounts to the flagrant violation of international regulations and resolutions, including Resolutions 478 (1980) and 2334 (2016).

The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the establishment of lasting and just peace in the region hinges on the complete removal of occupation, the return home of all refugees, determination of a future ruling system for Palestine based on a referendum attended by all of its main residents, and, at the end of the day, the establishment of an integrated Palestinian government with Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, while reiterating its support for the cause of Palestine, calls on Islamic nations and governments to remain vigilant in the face of plots hatched by the Zionist regime and its allies to sow discord within the Islamic community and consign to oblivion the key issue of Palestine as the main issue of the Muslim world, and urges them to maintain their unity and solidarity in the face of the Zionist regime. It is necessary that Muslim people, with more vigilance and prudence, remain on the watch for the conspiracies and divisive attempts by this regime, its transregional supporters and some regional parvenu, illusory, power-seeking leaders, who uniquely and brazenly have violated all Islamic and humanitarian principles, and try to bring about an unholy alliance and humiliating relationship with this illegitimate regime, undermine the resistance and push the path of fighting Israeli occupiers towards differences and ethnic-religious wars among Muslims.

At the end, the international community, especially the United Nations, is expected to take a fundamental and humanitarian step against the Zionist regime’s occupation and back-to-back acts of aggression and to deal with the regime’s crimes, and also work out a firm and appropriate response to prevent the behaviour and divisive and bellicose actions and false propaganda of a regime which believes the perpetuation of its illegitimate and fabricated existence is contingent upon tension and violence in the region.

Iran Leader Calls for Closer Cooperation among Asian States

In a Sunday meeting with visiting Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena in Tehran, the Leader referred to the historical and cultural ties between Iran and sub-continent states including Sri Lanka and said the current level of relations between the two states is way lower than the existing capacities.

“The Islamic Republic is prepared to enhance its friendship and mutual cooperation with Sri Lanka,” he was quoted as saying in a report by the Leader’s website.

Iran’s Leader also underlined the urgent need for implementing the memorandums of understanding signed between Iran and Sri Lanka earlier in the day to boost their mutual ties in various areas.

For his part, Sri Lankan President Sirisena gave his government and nation’s warm regards to Iran’s Leader and said during the Sunday talks, the two countries decided to boost their cooperation.

He described Iran as the most developed states in technical, scientific and academic fields in the region and expressed the hope that his country could benefit from Iran’s achievements.

Iran and Sri Lanka signed five agreements on mutual cooperation in various areas in a Sunday ceremony in Tehran. The ceremony was attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Sri Lankan counterpart.

The agreements include four mutual cooperation deals as well as a program on cultural exchanges.

The two sides also signed an agreement on the film industry, and a cultural deal on cultural and scientific exchanges between the two sides.

Iran Condemns Indonesia Church Attacks

In a Sunday statement, Qassemi offered sympathy to the Indonesian nation and government, and the families of the victims of the terrorist attacks.

“Iran condemns any brutal terrorist move carried out by any individual or group under any pretext across the globe,” he said.

The spokesman further noted that the only way to deal with such unpleasant and inhumane moves is unity among all regional and international states and a global resolve to obtain a precise understanding of the main hubs and sponsors of terrorism and to seriously fight against this global and horrible phenomenon free from any double standards.

At least nine people have been killed and 40 others injured in bomb attacks on Indonesian churches on Sunday.

All the deadly blasts occurred within 10 minutes of each other, police said.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

At least 400 Indonesians are believed to have previously joined ISIS in Iraq and Syria, where the Takfiri outfit used to control territory.

Iranian, Chinese FMs Discuss Ways to Save JCPOA

During the Sunday meeting, Zarif elaborated on the condition of the Iran nuclear deal before and after the US pullout and said Washington broke the multi-lateral agreement and flagrantly violated the UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

“Now we want to make sure that the Iranian nation can reap the benefits of the deal if it decides to remain in the accord as recommended by the remaining sides of the JCPOA,” he said.

The Iranian top diplomat further noted that it was very important for him to start his intensive talks on the nuclear deal from China.

Iran and China are two friendly countries with strategic partnership which have stood by each other, Zarif said, adding that Iran and China have full cooperation in all areas and Beijing is Tehran’s biggest trade partner.

For his part, the Chinese foreign minister described Iran as a highly significant and influential state and said China is interested in continuing its strategic relations with Iran and will do so in the future.

“Our economic relations with Iran are in progress and the two sides have made long strides in other political, security and many others areas.”

He then called the JCPOA an international agreement which must be observed by all parties.

“There are many states which are unhappy with Trump’s decision to exit the Iran nuclear deal and never support his move. China calls for multilateralism in the international relations and the JCPOA is one of the fruits of such approach,” he noted.

Wang Yi underlined that China’s stance towards the Iran nuclear deal is completely clear and added “it is natural for Iran to remain in the deal without the US if its interests are guaranteed.”

China’s foreign minister also said his country is Iran’s main trade partner and the two sides should defend their legitimate interests against others.

During the talks, the two foreign ministers also exchanged views on a wide range of issues from bilateral to regional and international issues including the JCPOA.

Zarif arrived in China on Sunday at the top of a high-ranking political and economic delegation on the first leg of his diplomatic tour that follows US decision to exit the landmark 2015 nuclear deal. He is also expected to visit Moscow and Brussels as part of efforts to save the deal.

Iran’s Assembly of Experts Urges Rouhani to Apologise for JCPOA

In a Sunday statement, the Assembly of Expert underlined that Iran’s diplomatic apparatus put hard efforts into preserving the JCPOA but in some cases it crossed the red lines set by Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

“Though the Islamic Republic of Iran fulfilled all its pledges under the deal, it failed to receive firm guarantees in return from the other sides and this paved the way for the US withdrawal from the deal,” Alef news website quoted the statement as saying.

The Assembly of Experts went on to say that under the current circumstances, remaining in the deal without getting clear and firm guarantees will not serve Iran’s national interests.

The statement also cast doubt on the loyalty of the European sides of deal when it comes to interaction with Iran and said over the past years the European states have left no stone unturned to violate the Islamic Republic’s interests.

“Therefore, putting our trust in the European states means closing our eyes to the past experiences. In the current situation, it seems the apparent conflicts between the US and the three European states over the fate of the JCPOA are in fact a labour division made among them.”

“In order to prevent other opportunities from being wasted, the Islamic Republic must receive serious and firm guarantees as soon as possible if it is to continue negotiations with the remaining sides of the deal; otherwise an urgent pull-out of the accord is a legal and religious responsibility of the diplomatic apparatus of the country.”

The Assembly of Expert also called on the lawmakers to adopt appropriate measures in response to the US violations of the JCPOA.

It also urged the government to follow up the issue through international channels and make reciprocal measures while apologising to the nation over the deal’s damages.
