Armenian Premier to Visit Tehran Soon

Armen Grigoryan, the secretary of Armenia’s national security council, made the announcement on his Facebook page on Friday, following his meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Kazem Sadjadi.

Grigoryan said during the visit, the Armenian PM will discuss cooperation among the two countries in energy, health and financial fields, among others, ISNA reported.

Speaking about his meeting with the Iranian envoy, Grigoryan said they discussed the need for boosting economic relations among the two countries, which have enjoyed stable political ties in the past decades.

Armenia’s parliament elected Pashinyan as the country’s new prime minister late April.

The appointment ended weeks of street protests led by Pashinyan against the election of Serzh Sargsyan, Armenia’s president for the past 10 years, to the premiership office.

Ties with Iran Very Important to Tokyo, Japan Tells US

The Japanese politician made the remarks on Friday in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Japan Morteza Rahmani in the capital city Tokyo.

During the talks, the two sides underlined the importance of enhancing mutual historical and economic relations between Iran and Japan, a report by ISNA said.

Ties with Iran Very Important to Tokyo, Japan Tells USThe Iranian diplomat said economic sectors of the two sides expect their relations to be enhanced by facilitating mechanisms.

He then highlighted the strengthening of mutual relations between the two sides over the past four decades and described Japan as an important and respectable country in the eyes of the Iranian people.

Rahmani also described as a positive measure Japan’s support for the Iran nuclear deal as an international treaty confirmed by the United Nations.

Japan is seeking an early exemption from the US on its sanctions against Iran’s oil, which has the highest priority for the country’s energy security as well as local refiners.

Stopping all Iranian oil exports could result in the loss of around 2.5 million bpd of global oil supply, which cannot be absorbed and would trigger a “substantial rise” in oil prices that would not benefit anyone.

“As Japan considers continuing the import of Iran’s crude oil, we intend to inform the US about this stance, and aim to ensure they understand it,” said Ryo Minami, Japan’s director-general of oil, gas, and mineral resources at the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry last month.

Japan imported an average of 165,481 bpd of Iranian oil in fiscal 2017-18 (April-March), down 28% from the previous fiscal year.

US President Donald Trump said on May 8 the US would withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and re-impose sanctions that had been frozen since January 2016 as part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Sabz-Pushan Spring in Southern Iran; Body of Water for All Seasons

The beautiful spring is located among the palm trees. One of the characteristics of Sabz-Pushan Spring that amazes a lot of people is the change in its water temperature in different seasons.

The water of this spring is very cool in hot summers and surprisingly warm – in proportion to the temperature of the human body – in cold and dry winters. That’s why in all the seasons of the year you can swim in this spring.

What adds to the value of the spring is the presence of a holy shrine next to the body of water.

The spring is home to the Barbus and blackfish species, and various species of molluscs and planktons, which have given a special beauty to it in the warm southern region.

The people of the village ask tourists not to catch these fish.

Kurdish Nomads of Iran Preserve Centuries-Old Wedding Customs

Kurmanji nomads in North Khorasan province, north-eastern Iran, are highly dependent on women who carry out a major share of daily activities. Therefore, men in Kurmanji tribes can never live without a wife.

For a nomadic man, marriage is one of the prerequisites for the continuation of life. Due to the significant role played by women in nomadic life, widowers get married again much sooner than what is common among the townspeople.

Whenever a young man reaches the age of marriage, his relatives start thinking of choosing a wife for him. And if the parents fail in this regard, the young man himself will send a message through friends to his parents, and they will find a girl for him to marry.

What follows are photos of nomadic people’s wedding ceremony retrieved from Fars News Agency and IRNA:

Swiss Companies Urged to Keep Doing Business with Iran

“[The government] recommends that companies pursue their commercial relations with Iran and inform themselves about the situation,” said Fabian Maienfisch of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) on Thursday.

The comments came just a few days after the United States re-imposeda series of sanctions on Iran that had been lifted as part of a 2015 landmark nuclear agreement between the country and world powers. The decision came after US President Donald Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from the pact, which is known as the JCPOA, in May, despite statements by other parties to the deal, including the Europeans, that they would remain committed to the agreement and would do their best to protect their businesses from renewed US sanctions.

Iran, Swiss presidents explore ways to deepen ties

Maienfisch said the Swiss government regretted the “deteriorating” situation regarding the sanctions imposed by Washington on Iran but also insisted that it could not force its businesses to resist US pressure.

“Switzerland regrets that the sanctions situation in relation to Iran is again deteriorating,” he said.

Swiss Companies Urged to Keep Doing Business with Iran

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says his country will never give in to pressure.

Some European companies have announced that they would halt their activities in Iran to avoid US punishments. Some others, however, have insisted they would remain in the country.

Nestle, world’s biggest food company which is based in Switzerland, said it would continue producing infant formula and cereals as well as bottled water in Iran. The company said Tuesday that renewed US sanctions had no direct fallout on Iran.

He also underlined the Islamic Republic’s will to resist against the sanctions and make the US regretful.

The Turkish president, in turn, expressed delight at receiving President Rouhani’s letter and underlined once again Turkey’s will to continue its cooperation with Iran.

He also said Turkey is interested in exploring ways to expand its bilateral relations with Iran and remove any possible obstacles in the way.

Erdogan then expressed hope to visit his Iranian counterpart Rouhani in Iran in the near future.

Iranian Woman Tourist Travels across World on Motorbike

Iranian Woman Tourist Travels across World on MotorbikeMaral Yazerloo is the first Iranian tourist who obtained a permit to enter Iran on a motorbike to end her journey around the world which kicked off two years ago. The 36-year-old tourist travels alone. She worked in the fashion designing and branding business in India for 14 years. She intends to clock up 100,000 kilometres across 45 countries. She travels on an 800-cc BMW motorcycle.

Yazerloo holds the Middle East and Asia’s record by having travelled across 64 countries in the seven continents in one and a half years. Having travelled 110,000 kilometres in different countries on her own, Yazerloo showed the capabilities of an Iranian woman to the whole world, and wound up her tour of the world by coming to Iran and travelling along the roads and towns of her motherland. The E’temad daily has conducted an interview with her, the full text of which follows.

Why did you decide to do this?

I lived in India for 15 years, 12 years of which I worked in one of the largest Indian companies. I lived in a very good situation in India. I had a very good job and a very good social status. I was educated as well. Of course, I’m also an outfit designer. I have a brand of clothes in my name in India.

Before setting off on my journey with a motorcycle, I had already travelled to 67 countries. Each year, I took one month off from work and went on a trip. When I decided to go on this trip with a motorcycle, I wanted to make my dream of going around the world on a motorbike come true. This is my motto in life: Never stop trying until your dreams come true.” I began my journey one and a half years ago in the Indian city of Pune. I travelled to 64 countries in 7 continents in a matter of one and a half years.

Did you ever run into problems when crossing borders?

When I wanted to get across borders, sometimes they would keep me waiting for 5-6 hours in order to do the legal work. But on all borders around the world, they respect a woman tourist who is riding a motorbike. They treated me with so much respect.

How much did your journey cost?

I don’t remember exactly now, but I can say around 150,000 to 200,000 dollars. During the 12 years that I was working, I was the manager of two important departments of the company and received a very good salary. I was paid in dollars. That money was enough to cover the costs of my journey.

Iranian Woman Tourist Travels across World on MotorbikeYou said you are married. How did your husband react to your decision?

I got married around 10 months ago while I was travelling. I had met my husband before. He had already popped the question. We tied the knot in Peru in Latin America. My husband would fly to the country which I was visiting at that moment. He would see me and then he would return. I haven’t returned to my home since I got married.

As a woman, what problems did you have during your trip?

As a woman riding a motorcycle, it is very important to choose the right roads when you are travelling. It was very important for me where to stay and set up a tent. Naturally, a woman travelling alone has some fears.

I preferred not to be on the road at night. The reason is that nights are more dangerous than days in any country. Another point was that my motorbike is too heavy. If it drops to the ground, there is no way that I, as woman, can pick it up. There may be some techniques recommended on the Internet, but it will be impossible to lift 375kg of weight. I needed to fully tap into my skill while riding along muddy and rocky roads to keep myself from falling.

Another problem was that you come across different climates during such a trip, sometimes too cold, sometimes too hot. Sometimes I experienced three or four types of different weather during one day. It happened on many occasions that I kept travelling while running a fever and aching all over. Of course, it is not only women that may experience such hardships.

For example, when I was travelling across Mexico, I was told not to stop over in that country. They said I should stop only for refueling my motorbike. And they told me not to even get off my motorbike when stopping at the gas station. At that time, the most infamous gangster had captured the area, and smaller gangsters would stop cars in the streets and behead people. The reason was that the gangster that could kill the most number of people would be picked as the new big gangster. I was crossing that area exactly at that time. I had been told not to cross that area, but I had to. I had to ride 700,000 km per day non-stop to get to a safe place.

Iranian Woman Tourist Travels across World on MotorbikeDidn’t you face any problems when coming to Iran?

Long before I entered Iran, I had been told that they were worried about me, and that I shouldn’t go to Iran. But I was born in Iran and I’m an Iranian. So, I did want to go to Iran. I was able to cross the border into Iran thanks to support from my mother who had come to the border. I want everyone to know that they treated me very well at the border. I went through all legal procedure at the border.

Afterwards, I was interrogated and they asked me questions about where I had come from, where I was going and what my objective was, and question like that. When they were sealing my passport, they told me that I was an honour for Iran, and that they were happy to see an Iranian girl had been travelling round the world on a motorbike and had the Asian and Middle East record. They said it was an honour for them to allow me to enter Iran. I had no problems at all. I was the first Iranian girl to receive the permit to ride a heavy motorcycle in Iran.

Tehran, Pyongyang Ready for Closer Ties amid US Sanctions

In a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran on Thursday, Ri Yong-ho said that Iran and North Korea have long enjoyed friendly ties.

He also praised growing Tehran-Pyongyang relations while both countries are facing similar problems caused by US sanctions.

The top North Korean diplomat further thanked the Islamic Republic for standing by his country in difficult times.

Ri also referred to North Korea’s latest negotiations with the US, saying Pyongyang supports the denuclearization of Korean Peninsula, but will not surrender its nuclear technology as Washington may not set aside its enmity towards the country.

During Thursday’s meeting, Larijani, for his part, underlined the need for boosting bilateral cooperation with North Korea.

He also warned against Washington’s lack of commitment to its international agreements.

“The Americans speak very well during negotiations and promise a bright future, but in practice, they do not meet any of their obligations,” Larijani said.

North Korea has been the target of American and international sanctions over its military program.

Back in May, US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal despite objections from the other parties to the accord.

Under the agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran’s nuclear-related sanctions were lifted in exchange for Tehran limiting certain aspects of its nuclear program. However, Washington’s withdrawal from the JCPOA entails the re-imposition of anti-Iran sanctions on Iran, the first round of which returned on Monday.

Ri arrived in Tehran Tuesday for an official visit at his own request and has already sat down with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Hassan Rouhani.

This is the first time a senior North Korean official visits Iran since June 12, when US President Donald Trump held a historic summit with the Asian country’s leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore.

Iran Rejects OIC Accusations, Blames Saudi Arabia

qassemi

Qassemi on Thursday dismissed the provisions of an 11-article statement issued by permanent representatives of the OIC at a meeting in the Saudi port city of Jeddah.

“Due to Saudi Arabia’s refusal to issue visas, the representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran are not able to attend OIC meetings in Jeddah; so, such statements are unfairly and unilaterally drawn up and issued under pressure by Saudi Arabia,” said Qassemi.

He said such moves are aimed at deflecting public attention from the Saudi aggression on Yemen.

“The countries which launched aggression on Yemen and are responsible for the years-long human crisis and the killing, on a daily basis, of defenceless Yemeni people with the most modern weaponry, and [are responsible for] the destruction of the country’s infrastructure, issue such worthless statements and cash in on regional and international institutions and mechanisms to cover up their crimes and divert the attention of the people both in the region and across the world,” he said.

“We believe the issuance of such statements in the name of, and by taking advantage of the reputation of the OIC, will not only result in mistrust among its member states, but waste the member states’ assets and potentialities, make the OIC inefficient when it comes to key topics and issues related to the Muslim world, and undermine the status of the organization at the international level,” he added.
