“ISIS Could Be in Europe Now If It Wasn’t for Iran”

In a Monday meeting with the ambassadors of European states in Tehran, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said as field reports have revealed, if it was not for the Iranians’ sacrifices, the terrorists could have reached Europe.

“Hundreds of Iranian have lost their lives in fight against ISIS. Iran has played a key role in fight against terrorism, human trafficking and drug smuggling in the region,” he was quoted as saying in a report by ILNA.

He then expressed hope that Iran could continue its efforts in the mentioned fields.

The Iranian lawmaker also touched upon the need for close cooperation between Iran and the EU, saying Tehran and the European Union members have a cooperative approach towards international developments.

“It’s not the right time to discuss our divisions. We should put our focus on issues of mutual interest. We can postpone our discussions on divisive issues. Today, we should establish closer cooperation,”

He went on to say that through close cooperation, Iran and EU can play a key role in the strengthening of not only their mutual ties but also the international relations.

The Iranian lawmaker referred to the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program and said since the beginning of controversies over the program, the Islamic Republic has always adopted a diplomatic approach to remove any misunderstandings.

“Our approach shows that we have been involved in talks with others since a long time ago,” Falahatpisheh said.

He described the Iran nuclear deal as one of the most significant diplomatic achievements of today’s world in non-proliferation area and said the internal developments of the US and its unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear accord in May have created new conditions.

“But Iran and the European states remained in the JCPOA and sought to fully implement it through international mechanisms,” he added.

The Iranian lawmaker said over the past months, Iran and the European states have been involved in talks to take some practical steps to safeguard the accord.

He went on to say that Iran and the European states follow a certain diplomacy to get their theories and practices closer to each other.

Falahatpisheh also said US President Donald Trump is one of the main violators of international treaties in today’s world.

”He has also severed his country’s relations with the European states,” he concluded.

In early hours of Monday, the US dollar was exchanged at close to 180,000 against Iran’s national currency the Rial. However, it dropped to as low as IRR 161,000 before noon and eventually settled at IRR 140,000 at the end of trading – a level not seen since early September.

There are reports that the unexpected rush by individual owners of the greenback had triggered the plunge. 

Other reports said some street dealers were buying the hard currency from individual owners at rates as low as around IRR 120,000.

Videos circulating on the social media quoted dealers as predicting that the US dollar rate would go down even further to less than IRR 100,000 on Tuesday.

In early August, the government of President Hassan Rouhani unveiled a much-awaited package of policies to strengthen the Rial.

Hajj Pilgrimage Shows Power of Islamic Society: Iran Leader

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting on Monday with a group of Iranian officials in charge of organizing the Hajj pilgrimage.

The Leader noted that the gathering of Muslims at one specific time and place to carry out the Hajj pilgrimage conveyed such important political messages as “the necessity for boosting communication and synergism among Muslims,” while demonstrating the power of the Islamic Ummah.

Ayatollah Khamenei added that “establishing contacts with all Muslims through the Hajj,” “conveying the message of the Islamic Revolution to pilgrims from other countries and answering their doubts in this regard,” “laying the ground for bolstering the Islamic Republic of Iran’s contacts with other Islamic countries,” and finally “promoting brotherly coexistence among all Islamic sects” were the main political and necessary messages that must be conveyed to the entire Muslim world during the Hajj pilgrimage.

“The Hajj must be a source of credit and prestige for the Islamic Republic. Therefore, the political aspect of the Hajj must not be forgotten and the Abrahamic Hajj – that is, the Hajj as performed after the Islamic Revolution – must be different from the Hajj before [the Islamic Revolution] and the Hajj that is performed by those countries that know nothing about the fundaments of Islam and the Islamic Revolution,” the Leader added.

Ayatollah Khamenei also strongly criticized extensive destruction of Islamic monuments like those, which are attributed to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and Imam Ali (PBUH), under the pretext of developing the Hajj.

“While various countries carefully protect their historical monuments and sometimes even fake certain artifacts to show off their history and their past, many Islamic monuments have been so far destroyed in [the Saudi cities of] Mecca and Medina,” the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei also told the Iranian Hajj officials to come up with initiatives and contact Hajj officials in other Islamic countries in order to prevent destruction of the remaining Islamic monuments in Saudi Arabia.

In a message to Hajj pilgrims who began marking the climax of the annual event on August 20, Ayatollah Khamenei said the US policy is to stoke wars among Muslims and urged unity among them.

“Look at the behavior of the arrogant and criminal US today. Its main policy against Islam and Muslims is to stoke wars. Its desire and vicious effort is that Muslims massacre each other,” the Leader said.

Iran’s Underground River to Help Ease Water Problems

Under the project, a deep well is being dug so the local people could exploit an underground river holding up to 100 billion cubic meters of water, Habibollah Dehmardeh told Fars News Agency on Sunday.

The province is one of the most water-scarce regions in Iran, which has for years been gripping with water problems.

The country’s water supplies depend heavily on underground resources, but these are drying out at alarming rates
According to Energy Ministry statistics, Iran gets only about 242mm of rain each year, about a third of the global average, and 75% of it falls on only 25% of its area.

A separate project to transfer water from the Persian Gulf to Iran’s central provinces is due to be completed by next year.

Christians in Iran Commemorate Saint George

Saint George was a Roman soldier of Greek origin and a member of the Praetorian Guard for Roman emperor Diocletian, who was sentenced to death for refusing to recant his Christian faith. He became one of the most venerated saints and megalo-martyrs in Christianity, and was especially venerated by the Crusaders.

The Eucharist, also called Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper, is a Christian rite that is considered a sacrament in most churches, and as an ordinance in others.

Life Expectancy among Iran’s Elderly Population Growing

Mellat Park of Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi province of Iran is a place where the middle-aged and elderly people run and do physical activities on a daily basis. They are mostly retired people who on different days of the year work together in groups to forget their pains and sorrows.

According to the census of 2016, it is estimated that about 30 percent of Iran’s population are elderly. However, Statistical Centre of Iran has announced that the life expectancy of the elderly has increased in the past years.

Every day, the young people accompany the elderly and chat with them at this park. This conversation between different generations is a beautiful phenomenon that, in the midst of crowding, pollution and daily activities, turns the Mellat Park into a special part of the city.

Iran, Portugal Discuss EU’s Efforts to Save JCPOA

Development of parliamentary relations between the two countries, the Iran nuclear deal, the European Union’s efforts to guarantee Iran’s interests, regional issues, and the latest developments in the fight against terrorism were top on the agenda.

During the visit, Sarmadi said “we believe that the representatives of the European parliaments can strive to maintain the nuclear agreement and multilateralism by expressing opposition to the US’ stances.”

Sarmadi also stressed that for the successful implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran needs to continue its oil sales and a banking channel needs to be created for financial transactions between Tehran and other countries.

Regional developments and the fight against terrorism and extremism were among the other key issues discussed at this meeting.

Back in July, an Iranian parliamentary delegation held meetings with Portuguese lawmakers during a visit to Lisbon, discussing ways to broaden economic and political ties between the two countries.

Iran Says Close to Deal with EU, Russia, China on Financial Mechanism

In a weekly presser on Monday, the Iranian spokesperson said negotiations with Europe, China, and Russia are in process, and the remaining parties to the Iran nuclear deal are coming to an understanding in many fields.

“After the New York meeting, things have to be completed. Mechanisms and talks between Iran and Europe are not disclosed for certain reasons including the US pressures,” added Qassemi.

He noted that the comments made about this mechanism are not very accurate and Tehran denies oil-for-food programme and other interpretations.

The foreign ministry spokesman also expressed hope that the nuclear agreement would be maintained. However, he stated that if Europe and other partners fail to give the necessary guarantees required by Iran, this could affect Iran’s decision.

“In this case, Iran will take appropriate decisions and will take a decision that serves the interests of the country.”

 

Attack on Terrorists in Syria

In response to a question regarding Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Monday missile attack on the hideouts of terrorists in the east of Euphrates, the Iranian official said every move and act whether by military or by politicians carries a message.

“What can be mentioned here is Iran’s determination to engage in continuous, lasting and serious struggle against the centres of training and arming terrorists. We saw this determination this morning.”

 

Mediation between Tehran, Tel Aviv

Iran’s spokesman also commented on Russian Foreign Minister’s remarks on Moscow’s readiness for mediation between Iran and the Zionist regime, saying “that’s kind of Mr Lavrov, but I think everyone knows the position of the Islamic Republic about this regime and its illegitimacy.”

France to Train Iranian Nuclear Scientists: Official

Speaking in an interview with Etemad daily published on Monday, Ali-Akbar Salehi said Iran has a very good deal with France based on which Iranian nuclear scientists will be trained by the French.

It also involves joint research projects between Iran and France, he went on to say.

Based on the contract, which was signed after the Iran nuclear deal, French nuclear scientists will also hold workshops in Iran.

 

Netanyahu’s “Snatched” Documents Claim False

Salehi further rejected the claim by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he is in possession of documents snatched from the Islamic Republic.

“What I can say is that definitely no documents have got out of the Atomic Energy Organization [of Iran],” said Salehi.

Salehi’s reaction comes as the Israeli regime repeats the same baseless allegation every now and then. A few months ago, the Israeli prime minister while standing by a bookshelf containing some papers and documents claimed Israel had snatched the documents from the heart of Tehran and taken them to Tel Aviv.

 

No “Secret” Nuclear Work near Tehran

Salehi also rejected Netanyahu’s claim that the Islamic Republic was conducting secret atomic activities in an area near Tehran.

The Iranian official said Netanyahu became an object of ridicule at the U-N General Assembly, where he claimed Iran was engaged in nuclear activities in Turquzabad area.

“It was pretty obvious that he was lying on the issue,” he said.

Salehi said even the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has raised no questions about the location Netanyahu was talking about.

“We have no activities in the location mentioned [by Netanyahu],” said Salehi.

 

Iran, IAEA Have Good Cooperation

Salehi said Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog have very good cooperation.

“The agency has presented reports on Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities 12 times, so far,” said Iran’s nuclear chief.

“In those reports, it is highlighted that Iran has remained committed to all its obligations under the JCPOA, the Safeguards Agreement and the Additional Protocol,” Salehi noted.

He said the IAEA even declared closed a fabricated case named the PMD (possible military dimensions) with regards to Iran’s nuclear activities.

 

Iran Ready for Regional Nuclear Cooperation

Salehi said Iran welcomes the establishment of a “Regional Nuclear Safety Association” which brings together nuclear scientists from neighbouring countries.

In response to Saudi Arabia which had claimed that safety standards at Iran’s Bushehr power station had triggered concerns for the Persian Gulf and Middle East regions, Salehi said several international authorities have visited Iran several times and upgraded the safety level of Iranian power stations form C to B.

“So, the necessary steps have been taken in that regard,” Salehi said.

 

Europeans Back JCPOA Implementation

Salehi then touched upon the Europeans’ position on the Iran nuclear deal.
“The Europeans have, so far, supported the continued implementation of the JCPOA …. They have resisted well, in word, so far,” he said.

He expressed hope the Europeans will walk the walk and put words into action.

 

Iran-US Challenge

He then weighed in on the “severe political challenge” between Tehran and Washington.

Salehi said on one side of the challenge stand Iran and the remaining parties to the JCPOA, and on the other stands the “selfish, megalomaniac” administration of Donald Trump.

He said we should wait and see which side will win the challenge.
