11,000 Ancient Objects to Be Returned to Iran from US

Mounesan announced on Thursday that “the 11,000 objects, including a part of Persepolis fortification, will soon be returned to Iran.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of a tourism exhibition in Shiraz, he added that these objects had been taken out of the country about 80 years ago for research, but had not been returned so far.

1,784 packs will be sent to Iran in the first stage based on an arrangement made with the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, to which Iran had loaned the ancient relics in 1937, he added.

Mounesan said that the objects have recently received the Office of Foreign Assets Control’s licence, stressing the packaging work is almost over, but there are problems in the insurance process.

“They say due to sanctions they cannot send the packs to Tehran at the moment. We have told them that they should be delivered in Tehran, otherwise we have to get the objects in The Hague. Soon, it will be determined that where the delivery shall be made, but they say it will take time to pack because of the large number of objects.”

The US Supreme Court in February ruled that Americans injured in a 1997 suicide bombing in Jerusalem al-Quds cannot seize ancient Persian artifacts from the Chicago museum to satisfy a $71.5 million court judgment against Iran, which they had accused of complicity in the attack.

The justices, in an 8-0 ruling, recently upheld a lower court’s decision in favour of Iran that had prevented the plaintiffs from collecting on the judgment, which Tehran has not paid, by obtaining antiquities held at the University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute.

The important Persian cultural artifacts include clay tablets boasting some of the oldest writing in the world.

Iran Blasts Pakistan for Dragging Feet on Gas Pipeline

Speaking at a televised talk show on Wednesday, Zanganeh said Pakistan has failed to construct even a single kilometer of the gas pipeline that it has committed to finish under a deal with Iran.

“Pakistan is under pressure from the US, Saudi Arabia and (the United Arab) Emirates,” he said, adding that Pakistanis have not taken any practical measure to construct the long-awaited pipeline despite the Iranian Oil Ministry’s insistence.

“Not even a single kilometer of the pipeline has been constructed on Pakistani soil,” the minister said.

Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, which stretches for 900 kilometers only in Iran, has been designed to help populous Pakistan overcome its growing energy needs.

Iran has already completed the construction of the Iranian section of the pipeline, while Pakistan has fallen short of constructing its 700-kilometer share.

Pompeo Once Again Mocks UN Security Council: Zarif

Zarif was referring to Security Council 2231 Resolution, which endorsed the multilateral deal. At a UNSC meeting on Wednesday on the implementation of that resolution, Popmeo repeated the claim that Iran was in “open defiance” of it.

The top US diplomat also voiced concerns against Iran’s missile activities and urged restrictions on them under Resolution 1929 of 2010. He also announced plans to build a “coalition of responsible nations” against what he called Tehran’s “reckless ballistic missile activity.”

The top US diplomat further defended the decision by President Donald Trump’s administration earlier this year to leave the Iran nuclear agreement.

The US also re-imposed on Iran all the sanctions it had lifted under the deal, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), threatening secondary sanctions against the businesses that fail to abide by Washington’s restrictive measures.

On Thursday, Zarif took to Twitter to respond to Pompeo’s comments at the council, saying that he mocked the council by bragging about violating Resolution 2231 and even speaking of plans for more such violations.

He said the “isolated” US became the first permanent member of the council to punish other countries for complying with Resolution 2231.

Zarif further stressed that Pompeo’s remarks confirmed that Washington and its allies rely on “defunct” Resolution 1929.

Resolution 2231 terminated the provisions of previous UNSC resolutions against Iran, some of which had imposed restrictions on Iranian missile activities. Such activities are not prohibited under Resolution 2231, which merely calls on Iran “to refrain from any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons.”

Tehran has always emphasized that it has no nuclear warheads and that none of its missiles have been designed to carry nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed Iran’s compliance with the accord.

The Security Council met late Wednesday at the request of France and Britain days after Iran tested a conventional ballistic missile.

At the meeting, the European allies of the US echoed Pompeo’s “concerns” about Iran’s ballistic missile activities. They, however, stopped short of claiming that Iran was violating Resolution 2231, and reiterated strong support for the Iran deal, instead, amid European efforts to protect the JCPOA as well as their business links with Iran in the face of US sanctions.

In response, Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia took a veiled but clear swipe at Pompeo as he denounced attempts to “fan anti-Iranian hysteria.”

“There is no proof that the ballistic missiles can carry a nuclear load,” Nebenzia told the council.

Nebenzia added that some council members were using Wednesday’s meeting “to discuss the so-called regional behavior of Iran, which they depict as though it were the only source of all the woes in the Middle East.”

“What they do not voice is any kind of a substantive proposal on this topic and sometimes we’re left with the impression that the only goal is to further escalate anti-Iran hysteria and to demonize Iran,” he said.

Iran has repeatedly said its missile activities are in line with its deterrence doctrine, and that it will continue testing conventional missiles.

Spanish Playwright’s Masterpiece on Stage in Tehran

Commentators have often grouped the House of Bernarda Alba with “Blood Wedding” and “Yerma” as a rural trilogy.

Rafiei has directed these two works as well and now is working on the third one.

Mohammad Charmshir has helped Rafiei as the dramaturge of the play, which is being performed in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall in December 2018 and January 2019.

Among the actors of this dramatic work are Roya Teymourian, Maryam Sa’adat, Maedeh Tahmasebi, Nasrin Derakhshanzadeh, Parisa Sabourinejad, Reyhaneh Salamat, Yalda Abbasi, Sara Rasoulzadeh, Mostafa Sassani, etc.

Ali Rafiei; Most Prominent Iranian Drama Director

Roya Asadi in 2017 and Farshad Yari in 2018 had staged the same play in Iran, but the one currently on stage is of particular significance because of its director.

Spanish Playwright’s Masterpiece on Stage in TehranIn spite of the usual disagreements in the artistic community, there is no doubt that Rafiei is currently the most prominent Iranian theatre director.

He is a director who brought a beautiful, concise and stereotypical picture of the contemporary theatre of the world to Iran. He is the only director whose pictures remind the audience of his plays.

Dr Ali Rafiei, born in 1938, is a teacher, writer, translator, stage designer and director of theatre and cinema. He has a high school diploma from International Theatre Institute in Paris and a diploma in acting from the Charles Dolan School in France. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sociology as well as bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD in Dramatic Arts from the Sorbonne (1974).

Spanish Playwright’s Masterpiece on Stage in TehranHe has played in some Iranian and French films and TV dramas, and has taught at Tehran University. He has also served as the head of the School of Dramatic Arts and director of City Theatre of Tehran.

Rafiee was recently honoured for his artistic activities in the field of cinema and theatre.

Iran Says US Talk of Renegotiating Nuclear Deal ‘Pointless’

Bahram Qassemi

Qassemi made the comments in reaction to a speech by US Assistant Secretary for International Security and Nonproliferation Christopher Ashley Ford.

“Just like some of his colleagues, he [Ford] has unfortunately based his remarks on his pipe dreams, and he would definitely find the inconsistencies and flaws of his futile and groundless remarks if he just takes another look at his speech,” the Iranian spokesman said in a Wednesday statement.

Qassemi referred to the US as the biggest violator of international commitments, and said, “Breaching and disobeying the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 is a clear instance of the behaviours of an unruly and rogue government.”

Based on the UNSC Resolution 2231, he said, the international community considers the JCPOA as a deal whose provisions must be respected by all countries and related parties.

“In particular the P5+1 group of countries, as major parties to the deal, should have remained committed to their obligations, but it was the delinquent and lawbreaking US which … unilaterally and illegally withdrew from the accord without any reason and evidence, and insisted on refusing to implement its international commitments,” Qassemi said.

The US’ withdrawal came as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had repeatedly confirmed Iran’s compliance to the JCPOA in its reports, he added.

“The current US administration’s disobedience, unruliness, and grudge against the JCPOA has not stopped even after its withdrawal from the deal, and Washington is now threatening others who want to implement the deal,” Qassemi said.

“The country, in violation of all legal and international norms and with a rare and very dangerous approach, is either punishing the countries that have remained committed to the UNSC Resolution 2231, or threatening to punish, sanction, and ban them by sending various delegations,” he went on to say.

Qassemi said the JCPOA has made a considerable contribution to maintaining regional and international peace and security. “Any violation of the deal and the UNSC Resolution is a destabilizing move that destructs and endangers international and regional peace and security.”

“The country [US] must be held accountable for the consequences of undermining the deal,” he added.

The US has practically shown it is not bound by its commitments or by international norms and adopts double-standard approaches to all issues, Qassemi said, adding that “the remarks made by this American official [Ford] and other US statesmen regarding the JCPOA and Iran’s missile program have become totally pointless for us.”

“Talking of renegotiating the deal is just testing what has already been tested,” he said, calling on the lawbreaking US government to respect the international law and live up to its international commitments.

The Iranian spokesman’s comments came after Ford suggested Tuesday that the US could sit down with Iran to renegotiate the deal.

During his remarks at a conference in the UK, Ford accused Iran of violating the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) and said the Islamic Republic had a tendency ” to violate its obligations under multiple, legally-binding Security Council resolutions.”

“Iran’s track record demonstrates, in painful detail, how little the world can trust Iran’s promises if its underlying capabilities are not subject to constraint,” the US official noted.

Iranian Kids to Attend Abacus, Mental Arithmetic Contest in Malaysia

An Iranian official said the 35 kids have been selected out of 323 students from across the country.

Ruhollah Mokhberian, the Managing Director of the Smart Kids Institute of Iran, noted that the 35-member team consists of participants aged 5 to 14 years.

“The team that travels to Kuala Lumpur on December 22 includes nine kids from Alborz province, two from Lorestan, two from Bushehr, two from Tehran, two from Zanjan, four from Markazi, one from Kurdistan, ten from Kermanshah, four from Hormozgan, and one from Hamadan province,” added Mokhberian.

Smart kids from Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, Hong Kong, the United States, South Africa, Vietnam, South Korea, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Australia, India, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, UAE, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Tajikistan, Yemen and Iran in this round of PAMA Global Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Championships.

This year, Iran is taking part in the contest in five groups covering all levels of the tournament. Iran has also offered to host the PAMA Championships in the Middle East in 2019.

The latest achievements of mental calculations are also going to be studied at this international event.

The championship is an example of what can be achieved with early intervention in abacus math and mental arithmetic education.

Last year, the Iranian team ranked first among 300 students from 21 countries.

Saudis to Incur God’s Wrath for Crimes in Yemen: Iran Leader

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei

“The crime the Al Saud is committing to occupy Yemen will finally backfire,” the Leader said in a Wednesday meeting with the families of Iranian martyrs in Tehran.

“It’s been four years that they [Saudis] are committing crimes in Yemen. They thought they would win the battle in a few days or weeks, but the more they move forward, the heavier will become their defeat and the blow dealt on them,” he added.

The Leader said the Custodians of the Two Holy Mosques must take a hard line on infidels, but the Saudi rulers have taken their hard line on Yemen and Bahrain.

“This will provoke God’s wrath,” the Leader warned.

Saudi Arabia and its allies launched a devastating war, code-named Operation Decisive Storm, against Yemen in March 2015 in an attempt to reinstall Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh, and crush the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The Western-backed offensive initially consisted of a bombing campaign, but was later coupled with a naval blockade and the deployment of ground forces to Yemen.

The imposed war has so far failed to achieve its goals, thanks to stiff resistance from Yemeni troops and allied Houthi fighters, but it has killed thousands of innocent people and led to a deadly famine and cholera outbreak.

Trump Reveals Ugly Face of US to World

Ayatollah Khamenei further referred to Washington’s complicity in the Saudi crimes in Yemen, and described it as a sign that shows the true face of the United States.

“Look at the US statesmen today; look at their lust for money, violation of rights, and indifference to the lives and properties of human beings. Yemen is just an example,” he said.

“The crime is committed by the Saudis; but the US is accomplice, as they have admitted. They attack hospitals, markets, and highly-populated areas; they are criminals. This is the US’ face,” the Leader noted.

He then addressed the Iranian nation, and said, “You can look at the American statesmen and the US president to know the true face of America. They have explicitly revealed the ugly face of the US.”

Despite mounting criticism over the humanitarian crisis in the impoverished country and calls on the US government to stop its arms support for the Saudi-led coalition, the Trump administration recently announced it wants to continue support for the Saudi war on Yemen.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Persian Gulf Affairs Timothy Lenderking said on Sunday Washington’s backing for the Saudi war is “necessary” and that its discontinuation “sends a wrong message.”

“Obviously there are pressures in our system … to either withdraw from the conflict or discontinue our support of the coalition, which we are strongly opposed to on the administration side,” he told a security forum in the UAE.

Last month, the US Senate voted to advance a resolution calling for an end to US military support for the Saudi-led coalition, including arms sales and intelligence sharing.

US Plot to Create Chaos in Iran

Ayatollah Khamenei also pointed to the US’ plan to create chaos in Iran, and said the plot has been uncovered and they have no other plan to harm the Islamic Republic.

“They have done whatever they could. The US’ plot is to create disagreement, civil war, and problems in our country through sanctions and anti-security measures. They have made all their efforts to this end.”

This spring, “the Americans announced Iran will face a hot summer, and won’t last to celebrate its 40th birthday,” the Leader said.

However, to their dismay, this summer was one of the best ones, and the Iranian nation will celebrate the fortieth birthday of its Islamic Revolution in February in a more glorious way than ever.

The Leader at the same time warned the Iranian people of the Americans’ future plots to disrupt the country’s security.

“The Iranian nation must remain vigilant. It might be a trick that the Americans said they would do such things in 2018. They might be creating the fuss in 2018, and hatch the plot for 2019. Everyone must remain vigilant,” he noted.

“The US is a mischievous enemy that works with the Zionists and regional reactionaries. We must remain awake. Of course we are stronger, and they have so far failed to do anything, and will fail to do a damn thing from now on.”

He also urged all the youth and various political factions and bodies in the country not to prepare the ground for the enemy’s plots.

US President Donald Trump entered the White House promising to take a more aggressive approach to Iran than his predecessor, Barack Obama, whose administration negotiated the landmark nuclear deal with Tehran along with Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.

Since then, he has surrounded himself with known Iran hawks like John Bolton and supporters of the anti-Iran terrorist group MKO, and re-imposed many of the sanctions that were lifted as part of the 2015 deal.
