Implant Technology; Efficient Method for Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedists use implants a lot in their surgeries. All artificial joints are implants. All metal parts inserted inside or put on the surface of cracked or broken bones in surgeries as well as parts used to keep broken pieces of bones together are all implants.

Implants are used widely in orthopedics. They are made of materials which do not trigger any reaction from, and are not rejected by the human body. Steel, titanium, plastic and biomaterials such as hydroxyapatite can be used to make implants.

For a brief review of Iran’s achievements in various fields of science and technology, check the book “Science and Technology in Iran: A Brief Review

Orthopedic implants are used in the form of screws, rods and metal sheets in order to keep broken bones in the right position to expedite recovery. An operation is usually needed to put implants in place, and another surgery is required to remove them.

Orthopedic implants can be studied and evaluated from four perspectives: physical, chemical, structural and biological. In the evaluation process, parameters such as the appearance, weight, magnetic properties, material used in the production, the way of production, and environmental friendliness of implants are examined.Implant Technology; Efficient Method for Orthopedic SurgeryWith regards to orthopedic implants, the objective sought today is to develop and use materials that are stronger, more durable and more compatible with the body. At the moment, orthopedic implants are used in a variety of areas. Currently, most pieces of orthopedic equipment are made of stainless steel and titanium alloys, which are durable enough and can be attached to plastic that can be used as false cartilage.

Bone repair operations may take several hours, and, depending on the kind of cracks, local or general anesthesia may be required. Given the type of the crack, the surgeon makes the appropriate incision and uses orthopedic implants, temporarily or permanently, to fix and treat the bone.

Recently, considerable progress has been made in the field of orthopedic implants, making their use simpler and more efficient.

US Presence in Mideast Always Source of Insecurity, Tension: Iran

Bahram Qassemi’s remarks came in response to a question raised by reporters regarding Washington’s announcement that it would withdraw its troops from Syria.

“Basically, US forces’ arrival and presence in the region was a wrong, illogical, tension-provoking and crisis-inducing move from the outset, and has always been one of the key contributors to instability and insecurity in the region,” said Qassemi on Saturday.

“A careful study of the history of the regional developments in recent decades until now shows that the presence of foreign elements in this important and sensitive region under different pretexts has only resulted in tension and intensification of divisions,” he said.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced his plan to pull out American troops from Syria.

Later on Thursday, Trump downplayed those who criticized his decision, and said the United States cannot stay there “forever.”

“Does the USA want to be the Policeman of the Middle East, getting NOTHING but spending precious lives and trillions of dollars protecting others who, in almost all cases, do not appreciate what we are doing? Do we want to be there forever? Time for others to finally fight….,” Trump tweeted on Thursday.

He said in another tweet that one should not be surprised by the abrupt announcement.

“Getting out of Syria was no surprise. I’ve been campaigning on it for years, and six months ago, when I very publicly wanted to do it, I agreed to stay longer.”

Iran Leader Urges Police to Win People’s Trust

Speaking in a Sunday meeting with commanders of Iran’s police in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei said the behaviour of police forces is under the public scrutiny, and people tend to generalize their impression of the police’s performance to other parts of the Islamic Establishment.

“You should act in a way that the people find the police a powerful, fair and vigilant force,” he said.

Police forces have made significant progress in improving their behaviour towards people, but they need to improve further, he said, calling for “non-stop progress” so they reach a level that deserves the Islamic system.

“The performance of the police forces must be wise and thoughtful, in a way that it helps the police win people’s trust,” he said.

Abbas’ Dissolution of Palestine Parliament against Democracy: Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif meets Mahmoud al-Zahar, the head of a delegation of the Hamas faction in the Palestinian parliament, in Tehran, on Dec. 23, 2018 / Photo by Iranian Foreign Ministry

Zarif made the comments in a Sunday meeting with a delegation of the Hamas faction in the Palestinian parliament, headed by Mahmoud al-Zahar.

The Iranian minister expressed regret over Abbas’ decision, and stressed the need for the unity of the Palestinian nation around the resistance axis.

For his part, al-Zahar said the parliament has been elected legally and should continue its work until the end of its tenure.

“According to the Palestinian Constitution, the parliament cannot be dissolved under any circumstances, even in an emergency situation, and its tenure should end,” he said.

Abbas announced Saturday that his government was going to dissolve the PLC and hold elections within six months.

The president said that he would immediately implement a Constitutional Court ruling to dissolve the PLC, a chamber which is under the heavy influence of Hamas since the party won elections in 2006.

Zionists No Real Friend of Muslim Countries

During the meeting, Zarif said that Muslim countries, despite some differences, should unite on the issue of supporting Palestine in order to prevent abuses.

“Unfortunately, efforts to counter the Resistance movement are made from inside the Muslim world today. These pressures are also placed on all countries and Muslim movements,” he said.

“Supporting Palestine is a basic policy of the Islamic Republic,” he said, expressing hope that some regional governments that have pinned their hopes on the support of the Zionists and the US would return to the Muslim world and realize that Zionists are no real friend or partner for anybody.

Al-Zahar, in turn, said Iran provides Palestine with “true support”, expressing hope the resistance of the Palestinian people and the support of the Muslim world will bring an end to the Zionist project.

Iran Sympathizes with Indonesia over Deadly Tsunami

In a Sunday statement, Qassemi also offered sympathy to the Indonesian nation and government, and the bereaved families of the tragic incident’s victims.

The tsunami struck two of the country’s islands without warning, killing at least 370 people and injuring more than 1400, officials said on Sunday.

A three-foot wave, apparently caused by volcanic activity on the island of Anak Krakatau, swept ashore on Saturday night along the coasts of western Java and southern Sumatra.

No earthquake was recorded, and no tsunami warning was issued to people in the area, said Rahmat Triyono, earthquake and tsunami chief at Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.

“We don’t know what caused the tsunami yet,” he said. “We suspect it was caused by the Anak Krakatau activities.”

Officials reported deaths and destruction on both Java and Sumatra. The Sunda Strait lies between the islands, connecting the Java Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Officials put the number of missing at 30.

More than 400 homes, nine hotels and at least 10 vessels were damaged or destroyed in Pandeglang, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, the spokesman for Indonesia’s disaster management agency, said on Twitter.

Heart Valve Replacement Gives New Birth to Dying Patients

A normal heart has four chambers and as many valves which separate the chambers from each other. The valves open and close each time the heart beats.

The valves cause blood to be pumped in the right path through the atria and ventricles and other parts of the body. Any malfunction of the valves will result in serious problems for the body.

Heart Valve Replacement Gives New Birth to Dying PatientsThe bicuspid or mitral valve is located on the left side of the heart between the left atrium and ventricle, and the tricuspid valve separates the right atrium and ventricle.

The aortic valve is located at the beginning of aorta, and the pulmonary valve is located at the beginning of the pulmonary vein.

The valves allow the blood to flow in one direction only, keeping the blood from moving in the opposite direction. The blood flows through the tricuspid valve from the left and right atria to the ventricles. When the ventricles are full of blood, the valves are closed.

Heart Valve Replacement Gives New Birth to Dying Patients

The closure of the valves keeps the flood flowing from the ventricles to the atria. When the ventricles contract, the aortic and pulmonary valves open whereby blood is pumped out of the ventricles.

While the heart is contracting, blood enters the left ventricle from the left atrium through the mitral valve before being pumped into the whole body. The blood being pumped contains oxygen. Oxygen transfer takes place between blood and tissues.

The blood loses oxygen and takes in CO2. When the heart is relaxing, oxygen-depleted blood returns from the whole body to the right atrium from where it is pumped to the lungs via the tricuspid valve to receive oxygen.

Diseases and Replacement

There are some diseases which affect heart valves. One such disease is valve prolapse which causes blood to flow back into the heart. This condition happens when the valve does not close tightly.

For a brief review of Iran’s achievements in various fields of science and technology, check the book “Science and Technology in Iran: A Brief Review

When tissues of heart valves become thick or blocked, it will result in a condition called stenosis. In this condition, valves do not open enough and block blood flow.

Sometimes heart valves are completely blocked and there is no way for blood to flow.

The treatment of heart valves depends on the state and intensity of the disease. Many people suffering from heart valve diseases continue to live for a long time and never need to undergo heart valve replacement surgery.

However, if the heart valve disease negatively affects the ability to pump blood, then the valve will likely need to be repaired or replaced or be operated on.

What to Look for in an Office Chair

Even though it makes sense to put a lot of thought and time into choose the right office chair, often it is the desk that takes priority. However, we’re here to encourage you to take as long as you need to find the perfect chair to suit your needs and so eliminate the problems of discomfort, back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Back Support

The best office chairs have support provided for your lower back which will ensure that you don’t suffer from back pain in the long term. The very best have adjustable lumbar supports so you can customize the chair to suit your specific needs.

Arm Adjustments

Although you may not immediately think that you’ll need to adjust the armrests of your office chair, in fact this is another important element to consider. Having chair arms at the wrong height can result in pressure on your wrists and this can result in carpal tunnel syndrome, a condition which can be very debilitating.

Height Adjustments

If you’re shorter or taller than average, having an office chair which can be adjusted so you are the right height for your desk will ensure that you don’t develop neck strain from craning your neck up or down to see your computer monitor properly.

Seat Back Height

If you don’t have sufficient height to your seat back, you’ll find that your upper back lacks the essential support it needs when looking at a PC monitor all day. Choose a chair with an adjustable seat back height and width so you can get the right fit for you.

Wheel Base

Not every chair will have a wheel base, but if you move around the office a lot to pick up paperwork from different surfaces, you’ll probably benefit from a wheeled chair so you don’t need to strain to reach. If your office has a carpeted floor, you’ll usually need a chair that has wheels designed specifically for use on carpet.

Swivel Base

You need an office chair which swivels freely so you can easily access every part of your desk. If your chair won’t freely swivel, you can develop arm fatigue due to over-extension.

Fabric

You sit in your chair for long periods, and inevitably it can become hot and sweaty. If you choose a mesh chair or breathable fabric, it will still feel cool after hours of use. You should also ensure that there is enough padding so that you won’t end up with an aching bottom after a while.

Your Chair Checklist

Trying out a chair before you buy is always wise. Knowing how it feels and how comfortable it will be in the long run is pretty important. Here is a checklist of points to pay attention to when trying out your chosen chair.

  • An adjustable backrest which curves with your spine and offers lumbar support
  • An adjustable height so your feet can rest on the floor properly
  • Arm rests which are close to your body, allowing your shoulders to be relaxed
  • Adjustable arm height so your elbows rest on your desk
  • A chair back which rises to the centre of your shoulder blades at an absolute minimum
  • A long enough seat so you can put a couple of finger-lengths between the chair and your knee
  • A cushion made from memory foam

Once you have found the best chair to suit your needs you will not only feel comfortable but will lose less time from work due to injury and pain. You’ll also be a lot more productive overall when you’re comfortable at your desk.

If you need any more advice about how to pick the best office chair to meet your unique needs, there’s complete information found here about the benefits of getting the right chair for you and expert information about making the right purchasing decision to suit your requirements.

Iran Denies It Fired Missiles at US Flotilla in Persian Gulf

Brigadier General Alireza Tangsiri made the comment in response to reports by some foreign media that Iran had fired missiles at a US flotilla during military exercises by the Iranian military in the south of the country.

“The Americans are used to telling lies,” said General Tangsiri, the commander of the Navy of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

“The Americans are present in the region, but they are not in our waters, and we have the whole region on our intelligence radar,” he added.

“The vessels of the IRGC’s Navy monitored the [American] flotilla, and our aircraft monitor any foreign vessel that enters the region,” the top general noted.

“Our duty is to defend the waters of Islamic Iran, and we are present in the region with power and full intelligence capability,” he said.

He said the Iranian military is constantly keeping a close watch on threats and is fully prepared to counter any threat.

The top general underlined that Iran can establish full security in the Persian Gulf region in cooperation with neighbouring countries.

“The presence of foreign troops in the region disrupts security,” he noted.

His comments came after Western media claimed Iranian ships had fired rockets in waters navigated by the USS John C. Stennis and an Iranian drone flew near the American aircraft carrier strike group.

The reports said the missiles were fired at a distance from the American ships, and that Iranian sailors were sighted taking photographs and video of the vessels.

Iran Says No Ban on Mahan Air’s Flights to/from Germany

Reza Jafarzadeh, a spokesman for the Iranian Aviation Organization, on Sunday rejected a report by Bild newspaper that the German government had taken the decision to stop Mahan Air from operating its flights to Dusseldorf and Munich after intensive deliberations on US demands.

The Iranian official said Mahan’s flights to Germany are on schedule, and the organization has not received any report regarding such a ban.

A German government spokesman said he could not comment on the report in Bild, which said Mahan Air would be banned in January.

The US government has imposed sanctions on several companies for their links to Mahan Air, including a Thai aviation company and a Malaysia-based sales agent.

Germany and its European Union partners are at odds with the United States over policy toward Iran.

US President Donald Trump in May pulled out of a deal between Iran and major powers and reinstated sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Mahan Air, which is not sanctioned by the European Union, currently operates flights to Milan, Athens, the German cities of Dusseldorf and Munich, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and several other destinations in the Middle East and Asia.
