Iran Condemns Deadly Terror Attacks in Sri Lanka

In a statement, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi denounced the attacks and condoled with families of the victims as well as the Sri Lankan government and nation.

“Today’s crime once again showed that the abominable phenomenon of terrorism has turned into a global scourge regardless of borders, ethnicity, nations and religion,” he said.

“Terrorism can only be uprooted via the steely resolve of all countries and by tapping into all potentialities and avoiding double standards on terror,” he said.

Multiple deadly explosions hit Sri Lanka on Sunday, April 4, 2019.

The blasts hit several hotels and churches, most of them in the capital, Colombo.

The churches were targeted while worshippers were attending Easter services. According to hospital sources, at least 207 people lost their lives and more than 400 were injured. At least 35 foreigners were among the dead. Police had issued a nationwide alert ten days before, warning that suicide bombers were planning to hit prominent churches. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe condemned the attacks, calling an emergency National Security Council meeting to discuss the situation.

Iran Develops Drill to Clean Up Mud after Recent Floods

The apparatus designed by researchers at Islamic Azad University, Qazvin Branch, was developed after an order was issued to produce a device that could clean up mud in flood-stricken areas.

Afterwards, a 12-strong team went into action and developed the apparatus in a matter of just three days by utilizing whatever resources available to them.

The device was used to suck up mud in flood-hit areas after heavy downpours affected much of the country. The apparatus proved specifically useful because it was impossible to get to some areas with mechanical diggers and heavy vehicles.

Officials say the apparatus could go into mass-production if needed.

Iranian, Saudi Delegations Attend Rare Parliamentary Summit in Iraq

The meeting headed by Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi was kicked off at the country’s parliament on Saturday.

Al-Halbousi said in the opening speech that the country has been able to regain its status in the region after many years.

“This is Iraq, which today, after the war with terrorists, is victorious thanks to the fatwa of the Marjas and the sacrifice made by its youths.”

He emphasised that Iraq, with the support of its brothers and neighbours, is now in the current position. He also praised all those who helped Iraq in the difficult conditions.

Al-Halbousi further touched upon the security of neighbouring countries of Iraq saying that having joint borders and joint interests are the main factors of convergence among the neighbours. He also added that Baghdad insists on establishing perfect relations with all the countries of the region.

The speaker of the Iraqi parliament said the policy of the country is not to join the political rivalries, adding that “while Iraq has joint economic and social relations with Iran, it has also started negotiations with Saudi Arabia at the highest levels. Iraq’s ties with Kuwait are also very important, and at the same time Iraq-Turkey relations are in the best of conditions today and we have carried out projects with Ankara.”

Delegations from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kuwait, Jordan, Syria and Iran, headed by senior executives have participated in this summit, Fars News Agency reports.

Political observers in Iraq believe the summit is one of the most important diplomatic events of the country during its post-ISIS era and is a sign of Iraq’s advancement to a new political and international phase.

Some Iraqi MPs say this meeting is the beginning of a new phase for Iraq’s pioneering role in the region to achieve peace and resolve crises. They say hosting such meetings will strengthen Iraq’s strategic position to establish persistent security and stability in the Middle East.

The Iraqi Foreign Relations Commission says the three main issues discussed at the meeting are the security of Iraq and the countries of the region, the adoption of regional re-arrangements for making important decisions to establish a secure region, as well as discussing economic and political cooperation among member states.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has not attended the event, but senior Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi is heading a high-ranking delegation at this summit.

Iran Uses Video Games to Boost Flood-Hit Children’s Morale

Along with the van, the foundation has also sent a vehicle filled with non-cash donations to the city of Aq-Qala in northern Golestan province, which was hardly hit by the recent floods.

“After exploring the situation in the flood-hit areas, we came to the conclusion that aid convoys are routinely flowing towards the areas by various bodies. But the needs of children hit by the floods have remained unmet so far. So, we decided to meet their needs by dispatching a video game van,” said Khosro Kordmihan, Vice President of Monitoring and Chief of Staff of Iran Computer and Video Games Foundation.

In an interview with Mehr news agency, he underlined that the van is designed as a mobile game centre with three specialized driving simulation systems and a game console. The van will stop at various makeshift camps to provide children with a chance to play video games.

The foundation has also prepared some gifts for children under 10 to make them happy amid the current devastations.

About 4,500 Iranian and foreign video games have so far been distributed in flood-hit areas of Golestan province. Meanwhile, a large number of other video games have been handed over to Aq-Qala’s Culture and Islamic Guidance Department to be distributed later among the flood-hit children.

“We’ve found out that at the time of crises, children’s morale can positively affect that of their parents. This will smooth their sufferings for a while making their harsh situation more bearable,” he said.

Iran Computer and Video Games Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2007 to control and support video game industry in Iran.

‘Iran Ready for Anti-Terror Cooperation with Pakistan’

Zarif made the remarks in a Saturday phone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi on the eve of the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to Iran.

During the talks, the two sides conferred on the most important issues of mutual interest, particularly the Pakistani premier’s trip to Iran.

They also discussed Tehran-Islamabad cooperation in various fields, especially in fight against terrorism.

Zarif once again condemned the recent terrorist attack on the Pakistani military and security forces, and expressed sympathy with the country’s nation and government over the inhumane act.

Suspected separatist militants ambushed a bus in south-western Pakistan before dawn Thursday and killed 14 passengers, mostly navy personnel.

Witnesses and authorities reported the bus was stopped in a remote area on the coastal highway linking the Pakistani port cities of Karachi and Gwadar.

A group of about two dozen assailants disguised as paramilitary forces went through identification cards of all the passengers before forcing 16 of them out and spraying them with bullets.

Earlier on Friday, Zarif had condemned the terrorist attack in a tweet, saying, “Terrorists, extremists & their sponsors are terrified by close relations between Muslim states.”

The top Iranian diplomat reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s support for the Pakistani government and nation.

Also in a statement on Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi strongly denounced the operation, and offered sympathy to the Pakistani government, nation, and army.

“Terrorism is an ominous phenomenon which will not be eradicated unless through all-out cooperation among the countries that have fallen victim to it,” Mousavi said.

He also expressed Tehran’s preparedness for any cooperation with the brotherly and neighbouring country of Pakistan in all intelligence, security, and operational aspects of fight against terrorism.

Iran President Pays Visit to Flood-Hit Areas

Speaking to residents of the flood-stricken city of Pol-e Dokhtar on Saturday, Rouhani said the reconstruction of Pol-e Dokhtar, Ma’moulan and other cities and villages of Lorestan province which are suffering from heavy damages due to the latest deluges are among the main priorities of the government.

“The hearts of all Iranians are beating for the flood-hit residents of Lorestan. We will stay behind you till all the problems are removed. The government will make the arrangements to reconstruct the ruined areas immediately,” he said.

The Iranian nation and government became aware of Pol-e Dokhtar flood hours after the deluges hit the city, he said.

“In the early hours when you were besieged by floods and there was no access to the city, I was in touch through phone with Lorestan governor and closely followed up the situation in the city. Though heavy damages have been inflicted on the city, we thank God that there has been no casualty in the city.”

The Iranian president then referred to the self-sacrifices made by the brave people of Pol-e Dokhtar during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran under former dictator Saddam and said today all Iranians from all walks of life as well as the Army, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, and voluntary [Basij] forces have rushed to help flood-hit people.

“The reconstruction of the ruined areas will be carried out by the Interior Ministry. I’ve already ordered the Ministry to immediately help those affected severely by the floods. The financial support will be given based on a timetable to be developed by cabinet ministers,” he said.

Later in the day, Rouhani left Lorestan for Khuzestan, where many cities are still grappling with deluges.

The recent floods in Iran, which started on March 19, have so far claimed at least 76 lives, and devastated thousands of houses.

Iranian Scientists Produce Livestock Embryo in Lab

Consuming milk and dairy products and putting it in one’s diet is important from birth to adolescence, youth, middle age and old age periods. Therefore, human beings have always been trying to add to the amount of production and diversity of these products, but the main issue before dairy production is the livestock’s health.

On this basis, experts and health professionals began to concentrate on edible milk products by ensuring the health of livestock and poultry.

A knowledge-based company in Iran has been producing livestock embryo in lab in large quantities. The CEO of this knowledge-based company, Jamshid Jalilnejat Hallajian says using this technology is aimed at improving the livestock reproduction process in case of thermal stress and in controlling of the transmission of some diseases.

He reiterated the improvement of quality and quantity is one of the most important aims of the production of embryos.

For a brief review of Iran’s achievements in various fields of science and technology, check the book “Science and Technology in Iran: A Brief Review

“With the production of the embryo, it is possible to quickly test the samples of a female animal and decrease the gap between generations.”

Jalilnejat also added that these embryos have been exported to Azerbaijan Republic adding that the company has been able to increase its milk production from 120 to 170 tonnes per day in 2014.

Couple Ties the Knot on Flood Waters in Southern Iran

The young couple coming from a village in the flood-hit city of Soosangerd tied the knot on flood waters caused by heavy downpours in recent weeks.

The ceremony held next to a levee was attended by locals who had built the structure themselves. They had spent 15 days erecting the levee.
