Iran Thanks Saudis for Releasing Oil Tanker, Helping Injured Sailor

Iranian tanker Happiness 1

In comments on Sunday, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi gave details of the return of an oil tanker of the Islamic Republic of Iran from Jeddah to Iranian ports, and of the transfer of an injured Iranian national on board a trade ship called Saviz from a hospital in Saudi Arabia’s Jizan to Oman and later to Iran.

“The Happiness oil tanker that had berthed at Saudi Arabia’s port of Jeddah on May 2 due to a technical failure, has finally left Jeddah port for our country’s ports on July 20 after the technical failure was fixed, and following various consultations and the Foreign Ministry’s move to pursue the matter constantly in contact with the relevant parties,” he added.

“Moreover, one of the people aboard the trade vessel Saviz that was on its route in the Red Sea had been injured because of an accident inside the ship on June 3 and was taken to the hospital in Saudi Arabia’s Jizan for treatment.”

“Ultimately, after efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Iranian injured in Saviz ship has been transferred from the hospital of Saudi Arabia’s Jizan to Oman on July 20 and then returned to our country,” Mousavi added.

Citing the severance of diplomatic ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Mousavi added, “Those two subjects were pursued through various diplomatic channels, and we thank and praise Switzerland and Oman, as well as the relevant parties inside Saudi Arabia, for providing the necessary services and facilities in relation to these two issues.”

Saudi Arabia has finally released an Iranian oil tanker that had been stuck at the port city of Jeddah for more than 11 weeks.

Iranian oil tanker ‘Happiness 1’, belonging to the to the National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC), was forced to berth at the Saudi port of Jeddah on April 30 due to a technical failure.

The NITC said a technical problem in the oil tanker caused sea water to leak into the ship’s engine room and stall the engine when the vessel was heading towards the Suez Canal in the Red Sea.

All of the 26 crew on board the oil tanker survived the incident as the ship was taken to the nearest safe port, namely Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah.

However, the kingdom was refusing to let Happiness 1 leave Jeddah after the vessel’s technical problem was resolved. Saudi Arabia was even charging the NITC $200,000 a day for the additional costs of maintenance.

In the other case, Saudi Arabia said on June 4 that its forces had rescued the injured crew member of the Iranian ship Saviz off the coasts of Yemen.

The Saudi-led military coalition fighting against Yemen said the injured sailor had been airlifted from Saviz, which was more than 170 kilometers northwest of the port of Hudaydah.

Saudis were reportedly dispatched after a distress call from the Iranian ship and took the Iranian national to a military hospital in Jizan.

World Must Stand against US, Israel in Support of Palestine: Iran

Speaking at the Palestine Committee of NAM in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, Zarif stressed that today Palestinians are in a precarious and unstable situation while the pursuit of a radical unilateralist policy and the neglect of international law by the current US government has intensified the issue.

Such a policy has had a triple effect, he said, explaining that first, the US government is struggling to push to the sidelines the issue of Palestine which is the main problem in the Middle East.

“It is a pity that some have fallen victim to this, and are focusing on unimportant issues to move towards advancing the agenda of the United States and the Israeli regime.”

“It is important that NAM resist it and take all efforts to neutralise it,” he added.

“Secondly, the US government is now making all efforts to ignore the rights of the people of Palestine, especially their right to self-determination. Thirdly, there are naive and maladroit efforts to impose the so-called deal of the century.”

Zarif maintained that they [US and its allies] are deluded by the idea that peace and economic prosperity can be realised without addressing the issue of occupation, which is at the centre of the Palestinian issue.

He argued that there is no doubt any initiative separated from international law and against the human and political rights of the Palestinians will not be feasible and fair, and therefore it will fail.

“In the current situation, it is our duty to remain united and in line with other similar organisations and the vast majority of the members of the UN General Assembly stand against bullying tactics and violations of international law, and face the hostility of the Israeli regime and the US,” he reiterated.

Trump’s Drone Downing Lie So Big that Even Iran Believed It First: IRGC

“After Trump’s claim that the US had shot down an Iranian drone, we checked our various [drone] units for several ties,” IRGC Aerospace Commander Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh said Sunday.

Iran first believed Trump’s claim because “it was not believable for us that he would personally tell such a big lie on the TV,” he added.

“That was why we had a few hours of delay in dismissing the news, and finally we found out that our unmanned aerial vehicle had monitored the US fleet’s activity from the time it entered into the Strait of Hormuz to the time it left the Strait,” he noted.

General Hajizadeh said the US president later blamed his national security advisor John Bolton for the lie.

US President Donald Trump claimed an American warship had destroyed the drone after it came within 914-metres of the USS Boxer amphibious assault ship.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, however, later released footage which exposed Washington’s sheer lies.

Reverse Brain Drain in Iran; Elites Returning to Help Compatriots

Statistics show Iran is on the path towards formation of the ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovative businesses, with a major focus on “reverse brain drain”.

Share of Bio-Fertilisers to be Increased in Agriculture

One of the goals of the Biotechnology Development Department at the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology is to supply healthy food chain in the country. This program starts from the farm and reaches to people’s table. In this regard, providing bio-fertilisers is one of the most important infrastructures for the implementation of this plan. Bio-fertilisers are said to contain one or more of the beneficial microorganisms of the soil. These fertilisers are microorganisms that convert soil nutrients into nutritional materials such as vitamins and other minerals in a biological process and feed them into plant roots.

Iran FM, Venezuelan VP Meet in Caracas

During the Saturday talks, the two sides discussed the latest developments in bilateral ties, the development and deepening of Tehran-Caracas ties in all fields, and the most important regional and international issues.

Tehran Warns London against Further Provocation

“UK government should contain those domestic political forces who want to escalate existing tension between Iran and the UK well beyond the issue of ships,” Hamid Baeidinejad tweeted on Sunday. “This is quite dangerous and unwise at a sensitive time in the region.”

He added, however, that Iran “is firm and ready for different scenarios.”

The UK has seized an Iranian supertanker for allegedly violating unilateral European Union (EU) sanctions. And Iran has impounded a British tanker “for failing to respect international maritime rules.”

Reports of sanctions

On Saturday, local outlets reported that the British government was drawing up plans to target Iran with sanctions in response to the Islamic Republic’s detainment of the British tanker.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt was expected to use a House of Commons statement to announce a package of diplomatic and economic measures, including possible asset freezes, The Telegraph reported.

Also on Sunday, Tobias Ellwood, Britain’s junior defense minister, said London was “going to be looking at a series of options …We will be speaking with our colleagues, our international allies, to see what can actually be done,” according to Reuters.

Baeidinejad, the Iranian ambassador to the UK, seemed to be reacting to those reports.

On July 4, British naval forces in the Strait of Gibraltar off Spain seized the supertanker Grace 1 on the accusation that it was carrying Iranian oil to Syria in violation of the EU’s unilateral sanctions on the Arab country.

While Tehran denied that the supertanker was bound for Syria, it condemned the seizure as “maritime piracy” and warned that the move would not go unanswered.

Later, Spain said the UK had taken the action at the request of the United States.

On Friday, Iran seized a British-flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf “for failing to respect international maritime rules.” The tanker failed to respond to pertinent authorities after an accident involving an Iranian fishing boat and changed route instead.

‘UK officials should not be sidekicks of Trump’

Meanwhile, Richard Burgon, member of the British opposition Labour Party, suggested that Britain had to resist serving the United States in reaction to the Islamic Republic’s capture of the British vessel.

British officials should not become the “messengers or sidekicks” for US President Donald Trump over Iran’s seizure of the UK-flagged tanker, he said.

“I think we can play a very positive role in this… Our role is to speak up for conflict resolution, de-escalation, the nuclear deal,” Burgon said, adding, “But what we don’t want to do is end up being the messengers or sidekicks of Donald Trump.”

Traditional ‘Locho’ Wrestling Contest Held in Mazandaran

Annually, the people of Mazandaran gather together on July 19 to hold the Feast of the Dead, a part of which is the Locho wrestling contest.

The contest, which dates back to more than a thousand years ago, is held to choose the Pahlavan of the region.

‘High Number of Requests for Adoption of Children in Iran’

Montazer Shabar says the high number of requests has prolonged the process of adoption.

The development comes after single women over 30 years of age were authorized to adopt children.

“Under the Adoption Law approved in 1974, single individuals were not permitted to adopt a child; the law was amended in 2013 whereby single women were allowed to adopt children, which has increased the number of requests for adoption,” said Shabar, the director general of the Office for Children and Young Adults of the Iranian Rehabilitation Organization.

“Single men are still an exception to the rule,” he said.

“According to the law, single women can only assume the guardianship of girls, and not boys,” he added.

“Single men can adopt neither girls nor boys,” said the official.

He said single women over 30 years old are eligible to adopt children.

The official underlined that there are no legal restrictions in that regard for women who get married after adopting a child.

“However, one should note that there are priorities when it comes to adoption, and families who can never have children take precedence over single ladies,” he added.

The official said in addition to the minimum age limit, single women demanding to adopt a child should be in good physical and mental condition, should be able to afford to adopt a child, and should have a clean criminal record as well as a clean record with regards to social maladies.
“The Rehabilitation Organization’s regulations on granting guardianship are not strict; moreover, our criterion is, by no means, how well-off families are. What is important for adopting a child is the economic situation of the applicant family. The family should be able to afford to provide the necessities of themselves and those of the child, and should be healthy enough in order to take care of a child,” he said.

At the moment, there are two rehabilitation centres for boys with a capacity of 190 people, and one for girls which can accommodate 25 individuals.

Iran Ready to Tackle Biotechnology Sanctions: VP

Over 5,300 Iranian Knowledge-Based Firms Opened in 6 Years: VP

Iran will soon focus on a significant amount of support for medicine and vaccines needed for livestock and poultry, Sattari said during a visit to a knowledge-based company in the vicinity of Tehran.

He also announced the advancement of knowledge-based companies in biotechnology, human and animal medicine, and vaccines, adding that the young people who have ideas can, after a while, run knowledge-based companies and become a producer.

“We have great companies in this field, and we hope that this new move in the field of livestock and poultry will enable the country to be independent in producing medicines and vaccines,” said the vice president.

At the moment a good ecosystem has been created in this field turning the country into the first regional power in biotechnology, he added.

“We import $600 million worth of pharmaceuticals only in the human sphere annually, and we can produce 80 to 90 percent of it inside the country using the existing projects that are underway,” concluded Sattari.
