US Acting Like Gangsters, Mafia Members: Iran FM

Speaking to reporters in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, Zarif referred to the recent move by the US administration to bribe the captain of Iranian oil tanker Adrian Darya 1 in order to seize the vessel, and described it as a shameful behaviour.

“The much more shameful move was that of Mr Brian Hook who sent an email to the captain of Adrian Daria vessel, in which he made a very explicit offer; he has introduced himself and his position, and said, ‘You can either hand over the ship to us, receive several million dollars and have a good life, or decline our offer, and have a very bad life in the future’,” Zarif said.

“Mr Hook didn’t even try to send his message using a diplomatic language. … In the email, Hook not only lures the captain, but also threatens and blackmails him,” he said.

“This, indeed, is not only the ethical breakdown but also the political and operational decline of the US, that an apparently high-ranking US State Dept. official – who has the grand-sounding position of Special Representative for Iran Affairs, as they call him – is forced to send such a message through email to a ship captain in order to advance Washington’s failed anti-Iran policy,” the Iranian top diplomat noted.

Zarif said the US must look and see what a miserable situation it is stuck in.

“It’s acting like gangsters; it’s acting like Mafia members. Mr Trump boasts that he wants to make America great again and to make America powerful again; is this a sign of power that you write to a captain, asking him to hand over his ship in return for money? Isn’t that what piracy means?”

“I don’t think it is much different from what cowboys did in Western movies. Therefore, I think the Americans should take a closer look at themselves,” Zarif concluded.

Iran Condoles with Zimbabwe over Mugabe’s Death

US Will Fail to Extend Iran’s Arms Embargo: Spokesman

In his Friday statement, Mousavi condoled with the Zimbabwean nation and government as well as Mugabe’s family.

Mousavi hailed Mugabe’s leading role as a national hero in his country’s struggles for independence and freedom against colonialism, and said, “After the independence of Zimbabwe, Mugabe continued to defend the country’s national sovereignty by strongly standing against foreign interferences.”

Mugabe also had close and friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the spokesman added.

Zimbabwe’s first president had been battling ill health and passed away early Friday morning at a Singapore hospital at the age of 95, according to multiple sources in the African country.

Mugabe was removed from office in a military coup in November 2017 after spending over 30 years in power.

US Bans Deliberately Targeting Civilians in Independent States: Zarif

“US economic terrorism against Cuba, China, Russia, Syria, Iran & … deliberately target civilians, trying to achieve illegitimate political objectives through intimidation of innocent people,” Zarif said in a Friday tweet.

He made the remarks in reaction to his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez’s tweet, in which he slammed the US’ sanctions against Iran’s maritime entities.

“US sanctions against Iran’s maritime entities are another violation of International Law. US coercive measures preventing the movement of Iranian oil affect the brother peoples of Iran and Syria and threaten Peace in that volatile region,” the Cuban foreign minister said.

Zarif, in response, said Iran “salutes Cuba and stands with it” amid the US sanctions.

The Iranian foreign minister also condemned the US “rouge behaviour” which “now includes piracy, bribery & blackmail.”

He was apparently referring to the US’ bid to seize Iranian tanker Adrian Darya 1, whose captain was recently offered bribe to move the vessel to a country that could impound it on behalf of the US.

A report by The Financial Times revealed Wednesday that the captain received an unusual email from Brian Hook, the US special representative for Iran at the Department of State, in this regard.

Hook reportedly wrote to Akhilesh Kumar on August 26 that the Trump administration was offering him several million dollars to do what the US wants. To make sure the captain did not mistake the email for a scam, it included an official state department phone number.

Zarif on Thursday described the bribery as “shameful” and an indication of the US’ “ethical, political, and operation breakdown”.

They also underlined the need for expansion and deepening of relations given the capacities existing in both countries.

The Iranian foreign minister further elaborated on the Islamic Republic’s principled approach towards the JCPOA under the current circumstances, and stressed that it is necessary for the other parties to live up to their commitments and that the Iranian nation reaps the JCPOA’s economic benefits.

The two sides also expressed support for increased political consultations and mutual cooperation on the most pressing issues of the Muslim world, particularly the issue of Palestine, continued consultations on major issues of the region and cooperation at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international bodies.

Zarif arrived in Jakarta on Thursday as part of an Asian tour which earlier took him to Bangladesh.

Ousted Zimbabwe Dictator Mugabe Dies at 95

“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Iran Notifies EU of Decision to Expand Nuclear R&D

File photo shows the interior of a nuclear energy facility in Iran.

In his letter to Mogherini, Zarif has announced that “the Islamic Republic of Iran will stop implementing all its JCPOA commitments with regards to nuclear research and development” as of Friday due to the “impacts of America’s exit from the JCPOA and the re-imposition of its sanctions, and the three European countries’ failure to fulfill their commitments under the JCPOA and the communiqués of the joint commission,” Mousavi said Thursday.

“It has been emphasised in this letter that the move is exactly in line with Iran’s rights under the JCPOA, especially based on its Paragraph 36, and is a response to widespread and continued violations of the JCPOA over the past 16 months.”

“Iran will subsequently inform the International Atomic Energy Agency of the technical and operational details of its decision to stop implementing its nuclear R&D commitments,” he added.

According to the spokesman, the final part of the letter stresses that “in order to show its good will, the Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to continue negotiations at all levels with the parties remaining in the JCPOA, and to return to the full implementation of the JCPOA in case the other parties implement all their JCPOA commitments.”

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced on Wednesday that the country will expand its nuclear research and development as of September 6, lifting all the restrictions imposed on the country’s R&D in the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

Since May, Iran has been suspending some of its commitments under the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was clinched between Tehran and world powers in 2015. The country has already rowed back on its nuclear commitments twice in compliance with articles 26 and 36 of the JCPOA.

According to Rouhani, the third step will be taken on Friday, after talks between Iran and the P4+1 group of countries did not bear “the desired result.”

“For the third step, the Atomic Energy Organization (of Iran) must immediately start whatever the country needs technically in the (nuclear) research and development field, and must abandon all commitments under the JCPOA in the field of research and development,” the president said.

He noted that the AEOI is ordered to rapidly expand the research and development regarding various types of centrifuge machines and whatever is necessary for uranium enrichment.

5 Digital Marketing Ideas Small Business Owners Should Embrace

Did you know that only half of small businesses survive past the five-year mark?

That’s right — and the way you market your business online can play a huge role in your success or failure.

If you’re not sure exactly where to focus your digital marketing efforts, the ideas below should help give you some direction.

Tactics like optimizing for local search, publishing blog posts and videos, and marketing on social media all have the potential to massively boost your sales.

Keep reading for five powerful digital marketing ideas.

  1. Optimize for Local Search

If you’re a small business operating in a specific geographic area, it makes a lot of sense to focus on local search optimization.

This means that instead of targeting generic keywords like, ‘baker’, you’ll use location-specific terms like, ‘baker in Texas’. It doesn’t take long to make this small tweak to your website but it can have a big impact on sales.

You should also ensure that you have a Google My Business page. This lets you add your location, website, and images to Google, as well as allowing users to leave reviews.

It shows up prominently in Google searches so is great for your ranking.

  1. Drive Traffic with Blog Posts

Blog posts are an excellent way to drive traffic to your site and demonstrate your industry expertise.

Think about the main pain points faced by your target customer, then write blog posts to help solve them. For example, a plumber could write a post titled, ’10 Signs Your Toilet Needs Repairs.’

If you can, do some keyword research and look for terms with a high volume of searches and not much competition.

  1. Run Social Media Giveaways

Just joined social media and want an easy way to increase your followers?

Running a competition or giveaway and asking users to like, share, and follow in return for an entry is a simple way to boost your engagement levels.

Be sure to choose your best products for the giveaway, since it will effectively function as an ad for your business.

  1. Share Marketing Videos

Video marketing is growing fast, especially on social media.

Instead of sharing images or text posts, try creating short marketing videos to grab users’ attention.

You could share product explainer videos, behind-the-scenes clips, footage from events, or video testimonials from happy customers.

  1. Target Customers with Geofencing Marketing

What is geofencing marketing?

It’s a really smart way to target customers using GPS data from their devices.

Wish you could show ads to customers while they’re close to your store? Or visiting a local competitor?

With geofencing, you can. You’ll create own custom ‘fenced’ areas, and once customers enter these areas they’ll be shown your ads.

Geofencing is a seriously powerful tool with tons of potential.

Why Try These Digital Marketing Ideas?

If you want your small business to succeed, you need to embrace digital marketing.

The digital marketing ideas above are simple, cost-effective, and proven to get results. It won’t take long to implement them but you’ll definitely see increased sales.

The main topics on the agenda of the meeting were “Challenging Issues of International law in Cyberspace”, “Peaceful Use of Cyberspace”, and “Online Harmful Content”.

The meeting was chaired by the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Director-General for Legal and International Affairs, and attended by representatives of the member states and experts on the issue.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the items on the agenda. Also at the suggestion of the Iranian chairperson and after the approval of the members, the AALCO’s secretariat was tasked with drafting a document entitled “Basic Principles of International Law Applicable to Cyberspace”, and sharing it with the member states so that it would be reviewed and ratified in the next AALCO meeting.

The representatives of the AALCO member states and some of the experts attending the meeting elaborated on their views regarding several issues including international cooperation for combating cybercrime, application of the principle of non-interference in cyberspace, and data sovereignty.

The chairperson’s proposal approved and implemented by the Working Group not only promotes the position of the AALCO, but can also have a considerable impact on the developing countries’ role in the process of developing norms and rules for the cyberspace.

The Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization, originally known as the Asian Legal Consultative Committee (ALCC), was constituted on 15 November 1956 by seven Asian States, namely Burma (now Myanmar), Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), India, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, and the United Arab Republic (now Arab Republic of Egypt and Syrian Arab Republic). Iran joined the Organization in 1970.

Forty-eight countries comprising almost all the major States from Asia and Africa are presently members of the Organization.

The Organization primarily serves as an advisory body to its Member States in the field of international law and as a forum for Asian-African cooperation in legal matters of common concern.

OFAC Nothing More than ‘Jail Warden’, Zarif Says

“OFAC is nothing more than a JAIL WARDEN: Ask for reprieve (waiver), get thrown in solitary for the audacity. Ask again and you might end up in the gallows,” Zarif tweeted on Thursday.

“The only way to mitigate US Economic Terrorism (sanctions) is to decide to finally free yourself from the hangman’s noose,” the Iranian diplomat noted.

Zarif’s comments came after the Treasury Department imposed new sanctions against what it called a “shipping network controlled by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)” including 11 vessels and 25 entities and individuals involved in Iran’s oil trade.

The US State Department also announced a reward of up to $15 million for any person who helps Washington’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran, which includes zeroing out Iran’s oil sales.

The reward was declared by US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook, who made a series of allegations against Iran and the IRGC during a press conference Wednesday.
