The MoU on market development and application of nanotechnology products and services in the Oil and Gas Industry was signed between Vice-President Sorena Sattari and Petroleum Minister Bijan Zanganeh on Saturday.

The two sides sealed the agreement during the opening ceremony of 12th Nanotechnology Exhibition – Iran Nano 2019 – in Tehran.

At the ceremony, Sattari appreciated the Ministry of Oil’s support for knowledge-based companies and start-ups, and said a Petroleum Innovation Zone is to be launched as the next step.

“By taking these measures, an ecosystem where young creative youths are active will be launched within the next six years in an indigenous atmosphere where petroleum products are supplied domestically.”

For his part, Zanganeh said this measure is also aimed at contributing to the boom in technology and innovation.

“The start-ups and knowledge-based companies present at this fair have good activities supported by the ministry of oil,” underlined Zanganeh.

“In general, we continue this strategy as we have supported the technological work of researchers so far, but we keep this move organised in order to achieve our goals in the framework of standard rules.”

The agreement signed between the vice presidency and oil ministry was in line with the Iranian Leader’s policies and guidelines aimed at flourishing the knowledge-based economy, countering cruel sanctions and increasing the employment of expert staff.

The goals of this MoU are to use nanotechnology-based products and services in the petroleum industry, to develop and promote nanotechnology to meet the needs of the petroleum industry, and to help develop the market for nanotech companies.

Iran Global Forerunner in Nanotechnology: VP

Sorena Sattari made the comments at the opening ceremony of the 12th edition of Nanotechnology Exhibition – Iran Nano 2019 – in Tehran.

“As we can see, new sciences, like nanotechnology, make a lot of changes in life, reduce our costs and create a shortcut in the field of technology.”

He said making a product is the result of private investment in research, and if a good platform is provided in this field many products will be made.

He referred to Niroo Research Institute (NRI) as a successful model for development of technology by investing in the private sector.

“The government has acted as a research mentor and has helped private companies develop start-ups and knowledge-based products,” stated Sattari.

“We can’t do well in patent and paper production until the commercialisation cycle is properly formed. Investing in research will also increase the patents and produce papers. There is a tremendous amount of human resources in the country, and the public sector should pave the way for the use of this capacity in the country by providing a platform for the private sector.”

The Iran Nano 2019 is being held at Tehran International Permanent Fairground with the participation of 139 active institutions.

There are participants from Turkey, Ethiopia, Iraq, Afghanistan, South Africa, Azerbaijan, Indonesia and CIS countries.

In this edition, 30 new products are featured in the Innovative Design section.

Industrial and networking companies, technology development departments, specialised B2B programs, student tours, workshops, and universities and research centres’ booths are the other sections of the exhibition.

The Islamic Republic ranks 4th in the world in the field of nanoscience production. The activity of 239 knowledge-based and industrial companies has resulted in production of more than 610 products and export of nano-products to more than 40 countries, according to official data.

Zarif: Iran Ready to Mediate between Turkey, Syrian Kurds

Mohammad Javad Zarif made the mediation offer during his interview with Turkey’s TRT World, an excerpt of which he posted on his official Twitter page amid a military incursion by Turkish warplanes and artillery into northeast Syria to fight Kurdish militants.

#Iran can help bring together the Syrian Kurds, the Syrian Govt, and Turkey so that the Syrian Army together with Turkey can guard the border,” the top Iranian diplomat said in his tweet.

Turkish military forces and Turkish-backed militants of the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) on Wednesday launched a long-threatened cross-border invasion of northeast Syria in a declared attempt to eliminate Kurdish militants from the so-called People’s Protection Units (YPG) to push them away from border areas.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Ankara will not stop its military operation against Kurdish militants in northeastern Syria “no matter what anyone says,” a day after he vowed to flood Europe with millions of refugees if the European Union brands the offensive an invasion.

“We will never stop this step we have taken against the PYD/YPG… We will not stop it no matter what anyone says,” Erdogan said, adding, “We’re receiving threats from right and left, saying stop this progress.”

The self-proclaimed Kurdish-led authority in northeastern Syria said more than 191,000 people have been displaced as a result of the Turkish invasion.

The offensive, it said, has caused successive waves of displacement from the city of al-Malikiyah to Kobani, known also as Ayn al-Arab.

In his tweet, Zarif also said that the 21-year-old Adana agreement between Turkey and Syria aimed at uprooting terrorism is still valid and can be the “better path to achieve security.”

The Adana Interstate Agreement on Combating Terrorism was signed between Turkey and Syria on October 20, 1998.

It clearly stated that the Damascus government would not allow any activities of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militant group on Syrian soil, and would block any terror activities that could threaten Turkey’s sovereignty.

Nasrollah Sardashti noted that the crew of this tanker are safe and sound, and the vessel is heading towards Iran at maximum speed.

He further added the oil spill from the two damaged tanks of SABITI has been completely contained.

Two separate blasts, possibly caused by missiles, hit the Iranian oil tanker near Jeddah on Friday.

The explosions hit the vessel’s hull, causing heavy damages to its two main tanks, which resulted in an oil spill in the Red Sea.

Tehran has called the move a “dangerous adventure” warning that all the responsibilities fall on those behind it.

‘Tehran Ready for Talks with Riyadh with or without Mediator’

Tehran Still Ready to Mend Ties with Riyadh Despite ‘Foolish’ Moves

Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said Saturday if there is a misunderstanding it must be resolved, and we must not allow the region to undergo developments that let third parties and trans-regional countries take advantage of this situation.

“The readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to negotiate with the countries of the region is a matter already announced, and our initiatives and plans have always been in line with such policy.”

Mousavi made the comments in response to a question regarding the goals of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Sunday visit to Tehran.

The Iranian official said the Pakistani Prime Minister will meet with senior Iranian officials in Tehran on Sunday.

“In the framework of the longstanding and friendly relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Imran Khan will make his second visit to Iran this year within the agenda of close and friendly cooperation between the two countries.”

According to Mousavi, Imran Khan is scheduled to meet with President Hassan Rouhani, and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

He also noted that regional and international issues as well as the latest developments in bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan are the main goals of Imran Khan’s one-day visit to Iran.

Regarding the possibility of Islamabad’s mediation between Tehran and Riyadh, he said the mediation of Imran Khan is not on the agenda at this time, but the latest and most important regional and international developments will be discussed.

The mediation initiative comes as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman had asked Imran Khan to help calm tensions with Tehran.

Iranian Scientists Invent Smart Uniform for Soldiers, Climbers

Amir Abbas Mohammadi, the project researcher, says there was a global call for the implementation of the Future Soldier Research Project and all researchers and scholars were asked to submit their ideas in this regard.

“In this project, we designed a fully smart uniform for soldiers and climbers and made a prototype that included three sections: garment, gloves and boots, each of them with special abilities.”

“In the first phase, we introduced gloves for climbers that could provide heat to the user at a temperature of minus 40 degrees; also in areas without signal they could provide vital signs and geographical indications to the climber. These gloves will prevent climbers from getting lost,” he said.

The researcher adds that the boots made for soldiers are equipped with scanners, saying “The scanners in the boots can scan mines and radioactive materials from up to 5 metres away.”

The boots are capable of scanning 30 to 40-cm depth of land to find landmines, and is capable of scanning radioactive material and mines and displaying everything with alarms on a screen, he added.

Since it is equipped with various sensors, when the soldier is shot, it uses a sensor, based on the status of vital signs such as pulse or blood pressure to shock the heart so that the soldier does not become unconscious.

The researcher says it can also send the coordinates of the injured soldier to the nearest comrade for rescue and relief operations.

“The uniform is designed in a way that it can display the vital signs, as well as geographical location on an LCD.”

Mohammadi said the uniform is able to keep the body warm in the cold or cool in the heat.

This outfit is equipped with 12 sensors for “pulse”, “blood pressure”, “humidity”, “temperature”, “geographic coordinates”, “distance” and “light and laser”.

He further stated that the project won the third place in Istanbul International Inventions Fair (ISIF’19), where 400 teams and 1,000 inventors from 30 countries had participated.

The 4th Istanbul International Invention Fair – ISIF’19 was held last month at International Istanbul Atatürk Airport.

The target group of ISIF are international and national individual inventors, R&D centres, manufacturers and commercial companies, industrialists, entrepreneurs, special researchers, patent consultants, patent offices, private or state-sponsored research institutes, science parks, technology development zones, technology transfer offices, universities, laboratories, institutions and organizations related to intellectual property rights, angel investors, venture capital groups, innovation promoters, patent attorneys, invention associations, relevant government agencies and non-governmental organizations.

Iran Vows to Retaliate Evil Acts in International Waters

Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Vice Admiral Ali Shamkhani said on Saturday, “Piracy and evil acts in international waters aimed at endangering the safety of trade vessels plying across the waters will not remain unanswered.”

He said an ad hoc committee has been set up to probe into the attack on the Iranian vessel which was hit by two missiles off the coast of Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.

Shamkhani said the committee will soon present its report to relevant authorities to make the necessary decisions accordingly.

“By reviewing the existing video footage and the data collected, the main clues in this dangerous adventurism have been discovered,” he added.

Two separate explosions caused by missile attacks hit an Iranian oil tanker operated by the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) near the Saudi port city of Jeddah early Friday.

The incident took place some 60 miles from Jeddah, according to a statement by the NITC.

The blasts hit the vessel’s hull, causing heavy damage to the vessel’s two main tanks, resulting in an oil spill in the Red Sea. The leak has been stopped, and the ship is returning to the Persian Gulf.

Shamkhani also touched upon other acts of sabotage against Iranian oil tankers over the past several months in the Red Sea.

“Triggering insecurity in international waters will lead to worrisome dangers for global economy, and the responsibility for its consequences will rest with masterminds, perpetrators and supporters of such provocative moves,” he said.

Iran Investigating Attack on Its Oil Tanker: Spokesman

Speaking on Saturday, Rabiei said at a time when the region needs peace and tranquility more than ever to heal long-suffering wounds, there are individuals, groups, and governments whose survival depends on aggression because they are profiting.

He went on to say that these parties are seeking opportunities to cause more devastation.

“The last case of these evil acts was an attack on the Iranian oil tanker in the Red Sea, that suspected agents behind it once again showed they are doing their best to create another tension,” underlined the spokesman.

“Aware of this, the Islamic Republic of Iran is carefully studying the incident to find out the facts without any haste. Undoubtedly, appropriate response will be given to the designers of this cowardly attack, but we will wait until all aspects of the plot are clarified.”

“There is a question: Are those, who without any credible evidence hastily accused Iran of disrupting free shipping in the Persian Gulf and invading Aramco facilities, now ready to defend once again the principles of freedom of navigation in international waters? Are they ready to condemn such an attack on the Iranian ship?” he asked.

Two separate explosions, possibly caused by missile attacks, hit the Iranian oil tanker SABITI operated by the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) near the Saudi port city of Jeddah early on Friday.

The NITC said in a statement the hull of the ship sustained two separate explosions about 100km (60 miles) off the Saudi port city of Jeddah.

The company said contrary to reports, “there is no fire aboard the ship and the ship is completely stable.”

Experts believe it has been a “terrorist attack”.
