E3’s Anti-Iran Statement ‘Destructive’ at Current Situation: Rouhani

In the Tuesday meeting, President Rouhani strongly criticized the recent statement by the E3 (Germany, France, and the UK) and the groundless accusations levelled against the Islamic Republic.

“The issuance of this baseless statement under the current critical and complicated circumstances is not constructive and beneficial at all,” Rouhani said.

He also slammed London’s negligence in living up to its commitment for Iran to enjoy the economic dividends of the nuclear deal.

A positive economic atmosphere was one of the commitments under the JCPOA, Rouhani said, calling on all parties to operationalize their commitments, including the INSTEX financial mechanism, as soon as possible.

Rouhani further pointed to his Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE) initiative, which will be brought about at his UNGA speech Wednesday, and described cooperation among regional countries as the only way to establish sustainable peace and stability in the region.

The Iranian president stated that other countries’ support, including that of the UK, is effective in the realization of the goal.

Johnson, in turn, stressed that London is willing to develop relations with Tehran, adding that his country has always supported the JCPOA and will continue to do so.

He also said that the British Foreign Secretary worked hard to dissuade the United States from withdrawing from the JCPOA, but to no avail.

Johnson also referred to Iran’s effective role in the region, saying, “We still hope that the JCPOA remains in place and regional tensions are eased.”

Johnson, whose visit to New York was left unfinished and had to return home over domestic political developments, invited Rouhani to pay an official visit to the UK in order to continue bilateral consultations.

The unplanned meeting was held as on the sidelines of the annual gathering of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Also present at the meeting was UK Prime Minister Boris Johson, who had plans to meet with Rouhani, but ran into Macron before convening for the trilateral meeting, said Parviz Esmaeili, a deputy chief of staff of the Iranian president on Tuesday.

The talks were held right after Macron’s talks with Trump, Al Jazeera reported.

The meeting was aimed at bringing about a multilateral meeting that would likely have included the US and Iranian presidents as well as Macron and possibly other European leaders.

That would have required that the US and Iran resolve or set aside any preconditions for a meeting.

“I think I agree with Emmanuel. You need to be on the side of the swimming pool and jump at the same time,” Johnson said during a huddle Tuesday with Macron and Rouhani.

But Iran wouldn’t budge on its insistence that the US first ease sanctions and the Americans didn’t meet the Iranian demands.

Macron Meets with Rouhani Again after Visiting TrumpSpeaking to reporters Tuesday evening, Macron insisted that his efforts weren’t wasted and that the conditions are now in place “for a quick resumption of dialogue and negotiations” between the US and Iran, the Wall Street Journal reported.

“It’s now for Iran and the US to seize these conditions and to meet together again to re-create some momentum,” he said. “France is ready” to assist.

Despite the talk of progress, differences remain. European nations are still committed to preserving the 2015 nuclear accord even as they are trying to usher in talks about a broader diplomatic arrangement that might supersede it. But Iran says the 2015 deal must first be respected.

Iran, Spain Keen to Boost Science, Tourism Cooperation

President Rouhani and Prime Minister Sanchez met on the sidelines of the 74th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

In the meeting, held at the residence of the Iranian president, they discussed the ways to promote the relations between Iran and Spain, as well as President Rouhani’s new initiative for preserving security in the Persian Gulf region, known as the “Hormuz Peace Endeavour.”

Highlighting Iran and Spain’s capabilities and extensive potential, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized the need for efforts to strengthen the bilateral ties.

“The current sanctions and bullying by the US administration will break up in the long term, but the age-old and historical relations between the friendly countries, such as Iran and Spain, must remain solid,” Dr. Rouhani added.

The Iranian president also called for the promotion of scientific, academic and technological relations and for the enhancement of cooperation between Iran and Spain in the biotechnology and nanotechnology fields.

Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez, for his part, expressed regret at the suffering of the Iranian nation under the current unilateral sanctions, reaffirmed his country’s support for the JCPOA, and underlined Spain’s determination to further broaden relations with Iran.

Sanchez also pointed to President Rouhani’s “Coalition of Hope” initiative, noting, “We have known you as the man of peace during the past years, and I hope that this initiative would help reduce tensions in the region.”

Rouhani Chides Germany in First Meeting with Merkel

President Rouhani and German leader Merkel held their first meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

In the long-awaited meeting, Rouhani and Merkel discussed the ways to maintain and boost the economic relations and cooperation between Tehran and Berlin, to save the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, and to reduce tensions in the region.

They also talked about Iran’s new initiative for regional peace and security in the Persian Gulf, known as the “Hormuz Peace Endeavour”, considering the critical conditions across the region.

Hailing Germany as one of Iran’s major partners, President Rouhani called for efforts to continue the old and friendly ties between the two countries.

Rouhani, however, dismissed the “groundless accusations” that Germany, France and the UK have levelled against Iran in a recent statement at the UN.

He also stressed that all parties to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal were duty-bound to honour the JCPOA and salvage the important international agreement after the US unilaterally withdrew from the accord in 2018.

For her part, Merkel reaffirmed support for the continuation of the JCPOA, and called for the removal of sanctions against Iran.

She also noted that Germany and the other European states were determined to carry out INSTEX, a payment channel that the three European parties to the JCPOA (Germany, France, and the UK) have established to maintain trade with Iran.

Merkel further noted the Berlin would eagerly consider Iran’s initiative for peace, stressing that her country supports any prudent measure for the reduction of tensions in the region.

The Iranian president has already held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and Japan’s Prime Minister Abe Shinzo in New York.

In one of the other meetings with a European leader, Rouhani held talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Tuesday.

In the get-together, held at the residence of President Rouhani, they talked about the regional issues and the expansion of ties between Tehran and Madrid.

In his address to the General Assembly on Wednesday, the Iranian president is going to propose a plan for regional peace and security, known as the “Hormuz Peace Endeavour.”

Official Denies Report of Iran’s Assent to JCPOA Revision

In a message on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Parviz Esmaeili, the deputy chief of staff of the Iranian president, said what Reuters has reported about Iran’s readiness for changes in the JCPOA was “not correct.”

“What is correct is (Iran’s) readiness to shorten the length of implementation of the JCPOA,” he tweeted.

Esmaeili explained that Iran was ready for the final stage of the JCPOA, namely the commitments planned for 2023, as already mentioned by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The presidential official noted that the ratification of the Additional Protocol by the Iranian Parliament could take place simultaneously with the ultimate lifting of sanctions by the US Congress, which would allow for negotiations within the framework of the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the UK, France, Germany, and the US).

Reuters reported on Tuesday that President Rouhani has told media in New York that he will be open to discuss with major powers “small changes, additions or amendments” to nuclear deal if sanctions were taken away.

Iranian officials have already made it clear that the JCPOA will be never subject to re-negotiations, noting that the US could once again attend the JCPOA multilateral meetings if it removes the sanctions on Tehran.

Japan Assures Iran of Efforts for Regional De-escalation

Japan’s Prime Minster Abe Shinzo held a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the 74th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

In the meeting, Abe described Japan as an age-old friend of Iran, stressing that Tokyo will keep up efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East region.

For his part, President Rouhani praised Japan for its efforts to save and implement the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA.

He also stressed the need for the expansion of relations between Iran and Japan in various fields.

The Iranian president has also held meetings with leaders of France and Germany in New York.

Iran Condemns Latest Saudi War Crimes in Yemen

Iranian, Russian Diplomats Discuss Yemen Crisis

In a statement on Tuesday, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi condemned the continued bombardment of Yemen’s residential areas by Saudi warplanes, particularly the ongoing raid on the Qa’atabah District in Dhale province and the cities of Sana’a, Hudaydah and Sa’ada in the past few days that killed a number of Yemeni civilians, including seven children and four women.

He expressed regret over the recent Saudi-led war crimes which are committed in light of the US and some European countries’ arms supplies.

“Saudi Arabia’s continued bombing of residential areas comes despite an initiative by the Sana’a National Salvation Government – which has been welcomed by the international community – to stop missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia in exchange for a halt in Saudi bombardment of Yemen,” he said.

“This shows that the aggressors insist on beating the war drum and continue their strategic mistake of using military solutions in Yemen.”

Saudi airstrikes on a residential area in southern Yemen left over a dozen people dead on Tuesday.

The attack targeted a house in Dhale province.

Sixteen people, including children, were killed in the air raids. The strikes come a day after five civilians were killed in an attack on a mosque in Amran province. Riyadh and its allies launched a war on Yemen in 2015. Nearly 16,000 people, mostly civilians, have died and millions of others have been displaced since then.

Iran Condemns Pompeo’s Support for UANI Cover Organization

“On the one hand, the United States deceitfully speaks of compromise and negotiation, and on the other hand, it organises, finances, and arms criminal and terrorist groups … and provides them with intelligence,” Mousavi said Tuesday.

He said these groups include terrorists and criminals who have the blood of thousands of Iranian people on their hands and served as Saddam Hussein’s mercenaries in the war imposed on Iran.

They also include certain separatists who are on the payroll of foreigners and seek to harm the country’s territorial integrity, he added.

Mousavi made the remarks in reaction to reports that anti-Iran terrorist and separatist groups are to be gathered together by a cover organisation called “United Against Nuclear Iran”, in a ridiculous show, with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo playing the main role.

The Iranian spokesman strongly condemned such moves by Washington, especially by the US Secretary of State.

“Of course, they are just disgracing themselves because our beloved homeland has been proud and stable for thousands of years and will remain strong and solid for thousands more, and the enemies and mercenaries will not be able to inflict the slightest damage on it.”

“These futile struggles will be broken by the unity of the Iranian nation and government as proven during the imposed war and in various incidents.”

Mousavi also noted that Iran would begin the process of considering adding the US cover organization “United Against Nuclear Iran” to its list of terrorist groups soon due to its close cooperation with terrorist groups.

On Wednesday, Mike Pompeo is scheduled to speak at an event hosted by Iran hawk and former diplomat Mark Wallace, who has drawn criticism for including a fringe Iranian terrorist group, Mujahideen-e Khalq, or MKO, in his programmingsurrounding the UN General Assembly in New York.

Until 2012, the MKO was listed as a foreign terrorist organisation by the United States for allegedly killing US personnel in Iran in the 1970s and for its links to Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

It is largely reviled inside Iran because of its alliance with Baghdad during the Iran-Iraq war. It is participating in a dissident convention hosted by Wallace a day before Pompeo’s speech at the anti-Iran summit.

IRGC Chief: France, UK, Germany Liars Like US

General Hossein Salami

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Major General Hossein Salami said the three EU states that have always been on the front line of hostility towards the Iranian nation are now telling lies, just like the US.

His comments came after the German, British and French leaders accused Iran of being behind the attacks on Aramco oil installations.

Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron, and Boris Johnson said in a joint statement after meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, “It is clear for us that Iran bears responsibility for this attack. There is no other explanation.”

According to ISNA, General Salami has also echoed the comments by Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei that “the Europeans are not any different than Americans,” saying the Europeans have shown their true face after leveling false accusations against Iran without any evidence.

“This is the nature of the Europe and the US,” he added.

In a separate statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the irresponsible claim of the leaders of Britain, France, and Germany regarding the attack of the armed forces of the Yemeni government against Saudi facilities.

Iran Open to Discuss Small Changes to JCPOA If US Bans Lifted

Nuclear Deal Talk, JCPOA, Flags

“I will be open to discuss small changes, additions or amendments to nuclear deal if sanctions were taken away,”
Rouhani told media in New York, according to Reuters.

Official Denies Report of Iran’s Assent to JCPOA Revision

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has also expressed hope that good news would be heard about Iran in coming hours.

US President Donald Trump exited the 2015 deal last year and reimposed and toughened sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the pact.
