Iran, US Exchange Prisoners with Swiss Mediation

Iran, US Exchange Prisoners with Swiss Mediation

“Dr Masoud Soleimani, the Iranian scholar and university professor, was released moments ago after one year of illegal detention in the US, and handed over to Iranian officials in Switzerland,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday, December 7, 2019.

“Professor Soleimani, who had been detained on the bogus charge of violating the US’ illegal sanctions and were imprisoned in the US for over a year, … is going to return to Iran over the next couple of hours,” another statement by the Foreign Ministry said later in the day.

“The Iranian professor was released in light of efforts by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and cooperation from the Islamic Republic of Iran’s security and judicial organizations in a diplomatic process in cooperation with the government of Switzerland,” it added.

The prominent Iranian scholar was detained by the FBI on October 7, 2018, on a flight to the United States, where he was planning to visit on a research visa after getting an invitation from a research centre in Minnesota.

Iran, US Exchange Prisoners with Swiss MediationThe US authorities had reportedly accused the scientist of violating trade sanctions against Iran in 2016, when such restrictions were non-existent.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had announced in a tweet that Princeton University scholar Xiyue Wang will also join his family shortly, after over three years of detention in Iran on charge of espionage.

“Glad that Professor Massoud Soleimani and Mr. Xiyue Wang will be joining their families shortly. Many thanks to all engaged, particularly the Swiss government,” Zarif tweeted.

“American citizen Xiyue Wang, who was serving a sentence in Iran for espionage, has been released after being shown Islamic mercy and has been handed over to the Swiss officials for repatriation to the US, after approval by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and cooperation and permission from the Iranian judicial and security institutions,” the Foreign Ministry said in its statement.

A PhD candidate in the Department of History at Princeton University, on 8 August 2016, Wang was arrested in Iran on charges of espionage.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo later confirmed his release and said the United States was “pleased that Tehran has been constructive in this matter.”

President Donald Trump also thanked America’s “Swiss partners for their assistance in negotiating Mr. Wang’s release with Iran.”

Iran Joins Club of Ramjet Engine Manufacturers

Iran Joins Club of Ramjet Engine Manufacturers

Despite decades of sanctions and the current “maximum pressure” imposed on Iran, the country today is standing higher than some other countries in various fields of science and technology and has taken major steps in these fields. It will never be forgotten that the youths of Iran stood in the way of strong barriers of sanctions by other countries, and with a double effort, managed to keep the country’s industries abreast of innovative ideas.

One of the achievements these young people made was “designing of an Iranian ramjet engine”.

A group of knowledge-based elites and activists working in the field of eco-technology and innovation have decided to use the country’s aviation industry to circumvent the imposed sanctions and give the next generations a gift of Iranian industry.

As Hossein Pourfarzaneh, head of the Iranian jet engine team, says, “Ramjet engines show up speeds of up to 500 km/h, but they can also fly at supersonic speeds.”

According to him, “the engine has been designed by Iranian specialists and built by a knowledge-based company.”

The knowhow of designing this type of engine was earlier possessed by a handful of advanced countries, but now the Islamic Republic of Iran has joined these countries by producing this ramjet engine.

A ramjet is a form of air-breathing jet engine that uses the engine’s forward motion to compress incoming air without an axial compressor or a centrifugal compressor. As ramjets cannot produce thrust at zero airspeed, they cannot move an aircraft from a standstill. A ramjet-powered vehicle, therefore, requires an assisted take-off like a rocket assist to accelerate it to a speed where it begins to produce thrust.

These engines are used in the aviation industry and are used in almost all aircraft today. Ramjets can be particularly useful in applications requiring a small and simple mechanism for high-speed use, such as missiles. Weapon designers are looking to use ramjet technology in artillery shells to give added range. They have also been used successfully as tip jets on the ends of helicopter rotors.

Iran Develops New Type of RIP Bullet with Greater Lethality

Iran Develops New Type of RIP Bullet with Greater Lethality

The homegrown bullet was unveiled during a recent visit that Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri paid to an exhibition of achievements of the Defence Industries Organization of Iran.

Hailed as an effective one-shot manstopper, the RIP bullets reduce the risk of ricocheting by exploding upon entry into several razor-sharp fingers.

The RIP bullet is manufactured with trocar edges with three angles reaching one point. Upon impact, the bullet breaks apart along the multiple grooves, creating penetrating projectiles.

This technology maximizes the bullet’s transfer of energy to the target and minimizes the chances that pieces of the bullet will exit the object at dangerous velocities.

Since the small fragments lose energy quickly and therefore pose very little danger to any secondary target, the RIP bullet is a perfect option for operations against aircraft hijacking.

The airline security personnel require a round that could shoot down a target while not damaging the fuselage of a commercial airliner.

The RIP bullet allows the security forces to increase damage to vital organs of the target without having to shoot at it several times.

However, the Hague Convention prohibits the use of RIP and other expanding bullets in the international warfare.

Gas Explosion at Iranian Wedding Kills 11, Injures 40

In remarks late on Thursday, the spokesman for Iran’s emergency medical services, Mojtaba Khaledi,  said the deadly explosion of a gas heater at a wedding hall in the western city of Saqqez in Kurdistan occurred at 21:30 (local time) on Thursday.

Immediately after the incident was reported, eleven ambulances were dispatched to the scene, the official added.

“Unfortunately, 11 people lost their lives and 42 others were injured,” Khaledi said, adding that the wounded were taken to the nearest medical centers after receiving prehospital care from emergency specialists.

The governor-general of the Kurdistan Province, Bahman Moradnia, declared a day of public mourning following the “painful incident”.

“The Thursday night’s painful incident in Saqqez that left a number of our beloved compatriots in the province dead and wounded is undoubtedly one of the most bitter incidents in recent years,” he noted.

5 Possible Causes of Debt, and How to Address Them

5 Possible Causes of Debt, and How to Address Them

However, more often than not, debt arises as a result of life circumstances. Case in point: Here are five possible causes of debt and how to address them.

What Causes Debt?

The narrative of debt always being a problem of overspending is cut-and-dry. It says people with debt have brought it upon themselves through voluntary spending habits. Again, sometimes this is true. But this theory fails to account for many key causes of debt.

Here are just five potential causes of debt.

  1. Rising Cost of Living: About a quarter (23 percent) of Americans are running up credit card debt to pay for basic necessities like rent, food and utilities. The cost of living has risen disproportionately to wages, which means money isn’t going quite as far these days. It’s completely understandable to find yourself overwhelmed by debt simply trying to keep a household running day to day.
  2. Marriage/Divorce: Marriage and divorce each bring a respective set of expenses. Weddings and honeymoons can cost thousands of dollars — and divorce proceedings require paying an attorney for their time. A change in marital status can also simply bring a disruption to your routine, which makes room for debt to wriggle in.
  3. Medical Bills: Did you know most bankruptcies in the U.S. actually stem from medical bills? Whether you’re insured or not, exorbitant medical bills can crop up at any time. Oftentimes, all it takes is one visit to the emergency room or one procedure not covered by insurance to kick off a cycle of debt.
  4. Credit Card Usage: It’s easy to get into the habit of putting purchases on a credit card and vowing to pay it “next time you get paid” or “next month.” Problems start to arise when interest accrues and compounds, making it increasingly more expensive to pay off your balances.
  5. Loss of Income: One day you may have a job, the next you may not — it’s an unfortunate reality we all have to consider. Losing your main source of income can put a huge strain on your financial health, especially if you have several non-negotiable bills to pay every month, like rent/mortgage and car loan.

This just scratches the surface as to why people get into debt. But one thing is clear: It’s unfair to say debt is simply a matter of miscalculation or overspending. It’s a complex issue with roots in many different areas of life.

How to Address Your Debt

Debt can come from many sources. But how can you go about addressing it? The short answer is it depends on the amount and types of debt you’re facing.

According to Freedom Debt Relief reviews, many people who have enrolled in debt settlement programs cited medical bills and credit card debts as their reasoning for doing so. This is because settlement — which involves negotiating with creditors to lower how much you actually owe — only works for unsecured debts.

Consolidation is also a possibility, either by transferring high-interest credit card balances to a card with low or zero-percent interest or by taking out a loan and using it to repay the rest of your outstanding debts. To get approved for a consolidation loan, be aware you’ll need to provide proof of income.

Bankruptcy is an option in extreme cases where repayment in full is impossible — but treat this strategy as a last resort because it will damage your credit for years to come.

Understanding why you’re in debt is the first step toward choosing the most advantageous solution for your specific situation.

Runescape Mobile Early Access Is Up and Running!

Runescape Mobile Early Access Is Up and Running!

It comes as no surprise that RuneScape is getting the same treatment as OSRS. The latter’s mobile version proved successful, so it’s not a huge leap to do the same for the former. Now, it’s in early access, anyone with an Android phone and a membership can download and play it.

Here’s all you need to know to bring your adventures on the go, as well as all your Old School Runescape gold (OSRS Gold) and inventory.

What You Need

First, you’ll need a phone running an OS that’s at least Android 6.0 or equivalent. If you’re not sure, check it in your phone’s settings. Be warned though, the phones with the bare minimum of requirements might not support future updates. They either won’t be able to fully update the app, or have some features unsupported. Since it’s still in development, there will be some compatibility issues as well.

Second, you’ll need a RuneScape membership. Those who are enjoying its benefits in the PC version may join the beta without any delay. Free-to-play players will either have to wait for the official release or pay for the membership. It’s up to you if you think the benefits of the package is worth it or not.

As for iOS users, you have to wait until next year for a chance. There’s no set date for release, so watch out for the news about this.

The Benefits of a Mobile Version

Portability is the name of the game. With our penchant for looking at our phone screens most of the time, why not use that time to grind in Gielinor? On your way to work or school, you can keep leveling up or check on whatever you need to.

For the developers, it’s an avenue to open the doors to a new audience. OSRS mobile version brought an influx of new players to the PC version. That’s after they discovered the game through the app store. From the player’s perspective, that means new friends. If you had friends that were resistant to play the game on a desktop, you can introduce the app first.

Also,RuneScape is cross-play enabled!

What does that even mean? Well, it means you can seamlessly transfer your progress in-game from PC to mobile, and vice versa. If you’ve used your commute to farm or level skills, you can fire up your PC at home to continue and charge your device. Otherwise, it could go in reverse. You’re playing on your desktop and someone invites you out. Instead of lamenting the loss of grinding time, you can just log in to RuneScape on your device and go meet your friend.

This Runescape mobile version is beneficial, so be sure to leave good feedback! Jagex wants to know what works and what doesn’t. It’s all for the betterment of the game. They want RuneScape to be the best it could be. Your reports will help them figure out problems or improve on what’s already working well.

It’s only a matter of time before it rolls out for everybody. Once it does, you can enjoy Gielinor on the go! Keep on enjoying RuneScape!

JCPOA Joint Commission Wraps Up Meeting with Final Statement

JCPOA Joint Commission Wraps Up Meeting with Final Statement

The statement was issued by Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid, who was the coordinator of the meeting.

The meeting chaired by Schmid was attended by delegates from China, France, Germany, Russia, Britain and Iran at the level of deputy foreign ministers and political directors.

In the statement, signatories to the JCPOA acknowledged Iran’s compliance with the agreement over the past 14 months since the US illegal withdrawal from the deal and the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran. The parties to the JCPOA underlined that the nuclear deal is a multilateral agreement and a key element in the global nonproliferation structure. The signatories also voiced deep concern over certain developments, namely Iran’s reduction of its commitments under the JCPOA.

Also in the statement, all signatories stressed the importance of the full and effective enforcement of the JCPOA by all parties and their determination to follow up on efforts to preserve the agreement. In a meeting in New York a few months ago attended by foreign ministers of signatories to the JCPOA, the participants underscored the significance of securing Iran’s economic benefits under the JCPOA, strongly urging Tehran to take all necessary steps to fully live up to its nuclear commitments and stop adopting measures to reduce its obligations.

In the Vienna statement, member states also stressed the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the watchdog to verify Iran’s obligations under the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

The signatories also underlined their collective responsibility to keep implementing key nonproliferation projects that are a major part of the JCPOA.

They also touched upon recent developments pertaining to Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility and expressed their unflinching support for Russia’s efforts to press ahead with running stable isotopes projects.

Parties to the JCPOA also welcomed a decision by Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway to join the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) mechanism, which is aimed at facilitating legal trade with Iran in order to meet the needs of people.

The signatories also appreciated recent diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions. They said all parties should show enough flexibility in order to help these efforts bear fruit.

They also discussed the necessity of tackling serious challenges related to the JCPOA within the framework of the agreement itself.
