In a Wednesday meeting with Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev, Shamkhani lauded Moscow for its firm policies against the US’ illegal measures on the JCPOA and for backing Iran’s decision about the accord.

Iran’s move to reduce commitments to the JCPOA results from the US violation of and the EU’s inaction on the nuclear agreement, the Iranian official stressed, adding, “If Europe keeps failing to honor its (JCPOA) commitments, we will have to take the next steps in order to create a balance in the (implementation of the) commitments.”

Shamkhani further highlighted the successful experience of cooperation between Iran and Russia in the fight against terrorism, calling for stronger interaction to ensure regional stability and security.

An outbreak of unrest in the region is what the outsiders, particularly the US and Israel, are seeking, the Iranian official said, stressing that constant vigilance and collective cooperation in the region would thwart the hostile plots and guarantee stability and calm.

For his part, the senior Russian security official, who is in Tehran for the second Regional Security Dialogue meeting, said the Iranian initiative to hold regional security talks signifies the collective responsibility to establish peace and stability in the region.

The one-day Regional Security Dialogue meeting, attended by the top security officials of Iran, Russia, China, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, focuses on the issue of Afghanistan and the fight against various forms of terrorism in the country.

Patrushev also called for concerted cooperation to restore peace and stability to Syria, and for the continuation of political initiatives within the framework of the Astana Peace Process.

Stressing the need for Iran to enjoy its legitimate rights under the JCPOA, he said the other parties to the deal must preserve and honor the nuclear accord.

Evaz has no skyscrapers, no culture houses and no large parks, but it has things that everyone would long for. Evaz could be a perfect example for development.

After the designation of Evaz as a child-friendly town, other cities such as Chaloos, District 13 of the city of Tehran, Lahijan and Isfahan took major steps in that regard, too.

In Evaz, almost no state or public building, school, university, street, hospital, refinery, gym or institution has been built with state funds. Every brick in the buildings has been put on another only by local benefactors. However, development does not mean having a huge amount of money; rather, development means having an open mind to think, and an open heart to love and to regard society as one’s own. These features have turned locals in Evaz into people who are enthusiastic about building and development.

UNICEF knows first-hand the developments in Evaz and has reportedly promised to offer more assistance to the town.

“The Association of Children Lovers of Evaz began its work in 2008 and was registered in 2011,” says Khadijeh Faqihinejad, the director of the association.

According to a local architect, public facilities in Evaz have been improved and tailored to the needs of people with physical disabilities, visually challenged individuals, children, the elderly and expectant mothers.

Iran President, Malaysian PM Meet in Kuala Lumpur

In a Wednesday meeting with Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Bin Mohamad in Kuala Lumpur, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the world Muslims are members of a same family that should behave responsibly towards each other.

“It is necessary for the Muslim countries to cooperate in countering the pressure of big powers,” the Iranian president said.

“Many of the problems of Muslims are caused by the US interference, such as the sanctions against Iran,” President Rouhani added.

Denouncing an intensification of the US’ “cruel and unilateral” sanctions on Iran over the past two years, the president said such sanctions have been imposed in violation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 after the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal.

He also highlighted the futility of the US sanctions in light of the Iranian people’s resistance, saying the Islamic Republic has managed to improve its economy in the past five months despite the US policy of maximum pressure.

The Iranian president further called for efforts to enhance the relations between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur in various fields, adding, “The two countries should promote their scientific and technological cooperation, while the spheres of energy, industry, tourism, maritime cooperation, and the information technology could be suitable arenas for mutual cooperation.”

The foreign sanctions would not erode Iran’s determination to broaden cooperation with Malaysia, he underlined, saying the two Muslim nations can work together in the medical field and also develop a joint brand with industrial cooperation.

He also expressed hope that the KL Summit 2019 in Malaysia would help resolve problems in the Islamic countries, adding, “Such conferences could be effective for the settlement of Muslim problems, particularly in the Middle East.”

President Rouhani finally urged efforts to address the problems that Iranian people residing in Malaysia are facing, and highlighted the significance of holding sessions of Iran-Malaysia Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation.

The Malaysian leader, for his part, called for the expansion of ties with Iran in various fields, saying Malaysia supports Iranians and is resolved to promote trade cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

Mahathir Bin Mohamad also condemned the “illegal” anti-Iran sanctions that violate the UN regulations, saying efforts are underway to give a boost to the trade ties with Iran.

Iran is making headway in spite of the pressures from the US and Europe, the Malaysian leader added, saying his country needs to learn from Iran’s experience of dealing with the foreign pressures.
Describing the KL Summit as an opportunity for the Muslim states to share experiences, Mahathir Bin Mohamed said his country will maintain the trade and economic relations with Iran.

The Iranian president is in Malaysia to attend the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019, also attended by other Asian leaders like Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The summit will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from December 18 to 21.

Over 400 people, including 250 leaders, politicians, and thinkers from 52 countries, will attend the event.

The Iranian president is to deliver a speech at the KL Summit and elaborate on the Islamic Republic’s regional and international policies. He will also hold bilateral meetings with some of the leaders and officials attending the event in order to discuss bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.

The Kuala Lumpur Summit is an international platform for Muslim leaders, intellectuals and scholars from around the world to discuss and exchange ideas about issues revolving in the Muslim world, according to its website.

Iranian Researchers Treat Liver Lesions Using Stem Cells

Mesenchymal stem cells produce secretory vesicles and release them to their environment. Studies have shown that these vesicles have therapeutic effects on other cells.

Due to the tendency of the liver cells to absorb these secretory vesicles, they are widely used to treat liver diseases or to transfer drugs to the liver.

However, rapid destruction of these vesicles in the extracellular environment reduces their effect on the liver.

To overcome this problem, Iranian researchers at Royan Research Institute and Iran University of Medical Sciences designed a method in which polyethylene glycol was combined with the secretory vesicles of mesenchymal cells so that the vesicles were encapsulated in polyethylene glycol.

Thus, with the gradual degradation of the encapsulated polymer, the vesicles were released gradually over a month.

Four weeks after injection of the vesicles to the animal suffering from liver fibrosis, the liver of the animal was removed and examined through laboratory methods.

The results of the study, published in the international journal “ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces” showed that the use of polymer-encapsulated secretory vesicles improves the hepatic status of the animal compared to the conventional method.

Using this new method improved the anti-fibrotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and liver regeneration effect by secretory vesicles of mesenchymal stem cells by 40 to 50%.

The results showed that MSCs could be used as an effective treatment for liver lesions.

Also, the use of encapsulation of these vesicles in the polymer has been introduced as a method to effectively use them in therapeutic processes.

“I hope that common grounds between the two countries will lay the ground for development of bilateral, regional and international relations and cooperation through joint efforts and peace among Islamic countries and the region,” he noted.

He also wished health and success for Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and prosperity and felicity for the people of the Arab country.

Qatar National Day is a national commemoration of Qatar’s unification in 1878. It is celebrated annually on 18 December.

The holiday was established by a 21 June 2007 decree of the then Crown Prince and Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. It is also known as Founder’s Day.

It is a national holiday and most of the public are given the day off from school and work. Prior to the Emiri decree in June 2007, Qatar National Day was annually celebrated on 3 September, the day of Qatar’s independence.

Several activities are organized during the week of observance, including fireworks show (music, lights and fireworks), Katara National Day celebrations (festivities and over 20 heritage-themed events are held at Katara Cultural Village), National Day parade (members of the general public parade through the Doha Corniche), and a classic car show (antique cars formerly owned by government officials are showcased).

Iranian Biologist Develops Stem Cell Therapy for Parkinson's

Iranian professor Hossein Baharvand has been awarded in the third edition of Mustafa Prize ceremony for developing stem cell therapy for the Parkinson’s disease and the age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The professor of biology and stem cells technology at Iran’s Royan Institute is going to evaluate the new therapy in clinical trials in 2020.

Baharvand says he and his team have produced germ cells from human embryonic stem cells, have tested the method on laboratory mice and monkeys, and have obtained good results after two years of research.

The necessary arrangements are being made to use germ cells for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and AMD in clinical trials by the end of 2020, he added.

The biology researcher said only the US, Sweden and Japan have already begun using stem cell therapy in clinical trials, noting that Iran will be among a handful of countries developing such advanced technology if it carries out the clinical trials within the next two years.

The clinical trial takes one to three years to complete, Baharvand explained, saying successful trials will result in the application of a standard therapy.

Iran Urges Collective Cooperation to Tackle Regional Security Challenges

Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Vice Admiral Ali Shamkhani said terror and extremism have affected regional peace and security.

“In our region, terrorism and extremism are disasters that still linger on, and, along with other factors, have affected the peace, security and welfare of us all,” he said at the opening of the 2nd Regional Security Conference in Tehran.

“We have no option, but to stand up to this threat through cooperation and rapport and by getting to grasp a proper understanding of the root causes behind the emergence and promotion of this threat,” he added at conference, which brought together senior security officials from Iran, Russia, China, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

He said the ongoing “detrimental presence” of foreign forces in the region is a key contributor to the promotion of terrorism and extremism in the region.

Shamkhani said this year’s conference focuses on Afghanistan.

“In this meeting, we will exchange views and analyze the different dimensions of the crisis in Afghanistan to work out practical solutions to boost collective security cooperation to tackle these challenges, which have directly affected efforts to strengthen stability and security in Afghanistan.

He said the key responsibility of the participating countries is to tackle the existing security challenges.

Senior security officials from Russia, Afghanistan, and India with high-ranking delegations are attending the conference which opened in Tehran on December 18, 2019.

Zarif Urges Regional States to Try Hormuz Peace Endeavour

In a tweet on Tuesday, Mohammad-Javad Zarif urged cooperation to establish peace.

“The policy based on force and coercion to establish security in the Persian Gulf has been a complete fiasco,” wrote Zarif in his tweet.

“Let’s try other realistic cooperation [mechanisms] such as the HOPE initiative,” he added.

“However, as for the nuclear deal, good ideas cannot be pursued unilaterally,” he noted.

The HOPE initiative was first announced by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during his speech at the UN General Assembly.

In late September, Rouhani said the HOPE initiative was aimed at establishing long-term peace in the Persian Gulf, something he said could not be achieved as long as outsiders were present.

“This plan is about collective work within the Persian Gulf region and we want all countries of the region to partake in it,” Rouhani said. “Of course, the plan that will be laid out at the United Nations won’t be just about security, but rather economy and other issues, all in line with security matters,” he added.

The Iranian president has sent details of the plan to seven regional countries – Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE – and has reportedly received positive responses from a number of them.

In an address to a gathering of Iranian nationals residing in Malaysia, President Rouhani highlighted the futility of foreign sanctions against Tehran.

He said Iran has made great progress in various fields in spite of the foreign sanctions and economic pressures.

“Today, our new IR-6 centrifuges are spinning and the IR-9 centrifuges are also in the testing stage,” the president said in the event, held in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Slamming the policy of sanctions as a lose-lose approach, the president said such illegal measure could not last long and will have to stop somewhere.

“The Americans ought to retreat from the path they have taken, and we will also force them to do so with our resistance and fortitude,” President Rouhani noted.

He further noted that Iran’s power in standing against the foreign pressures in the political, economic, social, cultural and defense spheres has grown remarkably, saying the country could even turn the “maximum pressure of enemy” into opportunities in certain areas.

“The sanctions turned into an opportunity in some sectors. Although natural and weather conditions, including the flooding at the beginning of this year, put a lot of pressure on us, this turned into a capability and great source for our agriculture in summer and autumn, when our situation improved.”

“I would like to tell all my dear brothers and sisters that our country’s tolerance towards foreign pressure is now much more than before,” he stressed.

“Sanctions and pressure do create problems for us, but at the same time if we stand and resist we can turn them into opportunities in some fields, and force others to return to their commitments.”

“oday if someone evaluate and see if the US pressure has benefited America, Europe, Asia, or Iran, the results would show that the US’ measure has harmed everyone; that is what the US did has benefited no one, neither itself nor its allies and others. So when it is a lose-lose path – which benefits no one – this path cannot continue in the long-term,” he added.

Reiterating Iran’s support for dialogue to resolve the regional and international problems, President Rouhani said Tehran seeks closer relations with all countries although the US and Israel attempt to isolate the Islamic Republic.

The president also called for efforts to boost Iran’s scientific interaction with the foreign countries, particularly the Muslim nations, saying there are perfect opportunities for the knowledge-based companies and innovation factories inside Iran.

Statistics show that three Iranian experts and university graduates return to Iran from abroad every two days to work inside the country, the president concluded.

He finally assured the Iranian people residing in Malaysia that diplomatic efforts are underway to settle their problems.
