Threats against ICC Proof of US Anti-Justice Nature: Iran

In a post on his Twitter account on Saturday, Vaezi took a swipe at the US president for his threat to punish the ICC workers investigating alleged war crimes by the US forces and their allies, including Israel.

“Mr. Trump! Intimidating the International Criminal Court’s judges and workers by resorting to the immoral method of sanctions reveals the White House’s anti-justice and anti-human rights spirit,” the Iranian president’s chief of staff said.

“The futility of these sanctions have been proved for years with the Iranian nation’s fortitude,” he added.

His comments came after US President Donald Trump lobbed a broadside attack against the ICC by authorizing economic and travel sanctions against court workers directly involved in investigating American troops and intelligence officials and those of allied nations, including Israel, for possible war crimes in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

The order would block the financial assets of court employees and bar them and their immediate relatives from entering the United States.

In a statement on Thursday, the International Criminal Court expressed profound regret at the announcement of further threats and coercive actions, including financial measures, against the court and its officials, made by the US government, saying, “The ICC stands firmly by its staff and officials and remains unwavering in its commitment to discharging, independently and impartially, the mandate bestowed upon it by the Rome Statute and the States that are party to it.”

“An attack on the ICC also represents an attack against the interests of victims of atrocity crimes, for many of whom the Court represents the last hope for justice,” the statement deplored.

COVID-19 Cases in Iran Near 185,000: Official

In a press briefing on Saturday, Sima-Sadat Lari said 71 people have died of the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall fatalities to 8,730.

The spokeswoman said 146,748 patients have so far recovered from the disease, and been discharged from hospital.

2,755 patients are also in severe conditions of the disease, she added.

Lari noted that 1,219,400 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country. According to the spokeswoman, Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Khorasan Razavi, and Bushehr provinces are currently considered as red zones.

Qamsar, Hub of Rosewater Extraction in Iran

Ali Rabiee noted that swapping prisoners between Iran and the US is part of the nation’s policies “at the highest decision-making levels of the Establishment.”

“We have asked the US regime to make arrangements to restore the legal rights of other innocent Iranian inmates and put an end to this shameful hostage-taking,” he said.

The spokesman noted the government will continue to support these Iranian citizens as well as other Iranian expats which run into trouble and are mired in unfavourable conditions in different countries due to discrimination and political matters.

“One of the basic duties that the government feels responsible, more than ever, to fulfill is to support the dignity of all Iranian citizens, both inside and outside the country, whose daily lives have been disrupted as a result of the United States’ inhumane and unfair sanctions,” he added.

Rabiei said the US regime has become so impudent with regards to breaching global values that it has threatened to slap sanctions on members of the International Court of Justice if they look into international crimes committed by American military troops and citizens.

He underlined the reason why Iran does not take US President Donald Trump offer of talks seriously is that the “unruly” regime seeks to tighten the noose around internationally known jurists to wreck justice and common human values.

He said Washington has left no option for Tehran other than standing up to bullying and calling on all nations to band together in the face of this “unbelievable revolt.”

'National Coalition for Life' Formed in Iran to Contain COVID-19: President

President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday called on citizens to avoid unnecessary trips and keep observing health protocols in order to ward off another peak in coronavirus infections.

He said still no definitive drug or vaccine has been developed for the disease and “we have not reached collective immunity yet.”

The president said some provinces are facing a rise in the number of infections due to visitors travelling there during holiday periods.

“No matter how advanced the country is, the number of beds and medical facilities as well as medical personnel is limited; so, everybody should keep cooperating with regards to observing directives,” he said.

President Rouhani said the government is doing whatever it can to provide more hospital beds, medical facilities and protective gear for doctors and nurses.

He also called on relevant bodies to supply “inexpensive and enough” masks to people.

He further said more attention should be paid to the elderly and people with underlying health conditions as they are more vulnerable to coronavirus.

Iran Exports 20% of Domestically-Produced Nano-Products

Saeid Sarkar said the Islamic Republic is now exporting nano-products to dozens of countries.

“We have managed to export nano-products to more than 50 countries around the world,” said Sarkar, the secretary of a special nanotechnology development committee of the Science and Technology Department of the Presidential Office.

He said the sales of these products fluctuates depending on what time of the year they are being exported.

“We may not sell any products to a country in one year, but the sales may increase tremendously the following year,” he noted.

“Selling nano-products is a little difficult due to sanctions and international issues,” he added.

Sarkar underlined due regard should be paid to the quality of products.
“The world is after products with high quality and low prices, and we should pay special attention to this issue in order to be able to make our presence felt on the international stage,” he said.

He said nano-exports include a whole range of products, including lab equipment, health equipment, anti-cancer drugs, construction materials and textiles.

“Given the coronavirus outbreak, knowledge-based companies also made serious and numerous efforts to produce masks and disinfectants. We managed to secure a good market in these areas abroad as well,” he added.
