Gen. Soleimani’s Assassination Increased Cost of US Military Presence: DM

US Had Grudge against Soleimani for His Role in Fighting Terror: Iran

In a message released on the first anniversary of martyrdom of General Soleimani, who was assassinated in a US airstrike in Iraq in January 2020, the Iranian defence minister said Washington made a strategic mistake and miscalculation, because the loss of the popular commander and his companions has not suffocated the resistance front.

The martyrdom of General Soleimani has strengthened the front of resistance, the minister added, noting that resistance has now turned into a regional ideology and discourse.

He also paid tribute to General Soleimani as a brave commander of the fight against terrorism who thwarted all American calculations in the region, which is why the US decided to assassinate him.

The US created the ISIS terrorist in the region and had plans to keep them for years to invade and occupy the other countries, but Lt. General Soleimani and his courageous forces defeated the global arrogance’s plots, Hatami added.

“The nations across the region and the world will realize that the US committed such crime in the martyrdom of General Soleimani in order to support Daesh (ISIS),” the defence minister noted.

Without the efforts of General Soleimani and his comrades, including the armed forces and popular fighters in Syria and Iraq, the ISIS terrorist would have conquered the entire region, he added.

Europe, Asia and the US owe their security to General Soleimani’s devotion and efforts for the establishment of sustainable peace and security, he stated.

The Iranian minister then denounced US President Donald Trump’s “criminal and cowardly” move to assassinate General Soleimani as an “ill-advised measure” that resulted from frustration and was aimed at making up for the American defeats in the region.

“The notion that physical elimination of a person would halt the resistance current was a strategic mistake that Trump made. With his move, he (Trump) has increased the costs of presence of American forces in the region,” Brigadier General Hatami underlined.

He finally noted that confrontation with the US forces in the region should turn into a constant demand, saying the withdrawal of US from the region is the least price it has to pay.

Biden Should Return to JCPOA Not Only in Word, but in Deed: Iran

Saeed Khatibzadeh noted that the next US administration should walk the walk, and not just talk the talk.

“What we are constantly hearing today is that they (Biden and his camp) keep saying that they will unconditionally return to the JCPOA. We believe the United States should fully live up to its commitments under [UN Security Council] Resolution 2231,” he said in an interview with Fars News Agency.

“We have also announced that if the other party (the US) effectively, and I repeat, ‘effectively,’ which means just signing a piece of paper won’t do. If they return to the JCPOA effectively, we will reverse all the measures we have adopted to scale down our obligations under the JCPOA,” he added.

“But this will happen the day when the United States effectively implements the JCPOA, i.e., the US fulfills its commitments under Resolution 2231,” the spokesman said.

“All of the United States’ commitments are clear and written down,” he added.

Khatibzadeh noted that the nuclear deal was drawn up based on complete mistrust in the Americans.
“The reason why the JCPOA contains so many pages and provisions is that there was no trust between us. … When two people do not trust each other, they write down all possible scenarios. The JCPOA was drawn up based on absolute distrust,” said Khatibzadeh.

“It is pretty obvious that we do not trust the United States at all. And in recent days, months and years, our mistrust has grown and the wall of distrust has become higher,” he explained.

“The United States should win our trust, not on paper, but in practice.

“The next few weeks are those vital weeks when the other side will either begin to make good on its commitments or lose the chance of [using] diplomacy, which was once created with the conclusion of the JCPOA,” he said.

Iran Unveils Stamp in Memory of General Soleimani

In the unveiling ceremony, President Hassan Rouhani expressed hope everyone will follow in the footsteps of the general, who was a key figure in fighting terrorists in Iraq.

General Soleimani along with top Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis was assassinated by the United States in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, while on an official visit to the Arab country in the very early days of January 2020.

US Forces Must Leave Region after Soleimani’s Assassination: Iran

Mahmoud Vaezi, the chief of staff of the Iranian President’s office, told Lebanese newspaper Al-Ahed that Iran initially responded to the US assassination of General Soleimani militarily.

“In the military phase, you must know that after the criminal assassination of General Soleimani, Iran launched a missile attack on an American base [in Iraq] which was involved in the incident,” Vaezi said.

“That targeted attack had a clear message for the Americans that encroachment upon Iran’s bounds will definitely not go unanswered,” he added.

He underlined that the martyrdom of General Soleimani destroyed the “delusions of grandeur” of his assassins.

He said when the US, which claims to be a superpower, kills an Iranian military commander during his diplomatic visit to another country in a cowardly act of assassination, that means Washington was no match for the general and his companions in the field and on the ground.

“It is clear that the Trump administration regarded General Soleimani as a major impediment to its destructive policies and efforts to fuel the flames of tension in the region,” said the top official.

The top official said Iran has always underlined the importance of ensuring regional security by countries in the region and countering interference by states located beyond the region.

“The Hormuz peace initiative announced by our president is still on the table, and we believe it will be put into force with the help of the regional countries,” Vaezi noted.

“From our standpoint, we can establish peace and stability through regional cooperation, and there is no need for the presence of foreigners in the region,” he said.

“So far, the result of foreign presence in the region has been nothing but destruction, war and crime,” he added.

Israel Plotting Attacks against Americans to Frame Iran: Zarif

“New intelligence from Iraq indicate that Israeli agent-provocateurs are plotting attacks against Americans—putting an outgoing Trump in a bind with a fake casus belli,” Zarif tweeted Saturday.

“Be careful of a trap, Donald Trump. Any fireworks will backfire badly, particularly against your same BFFs,” he warned.

One Million Iranians Recover from COVID-19: Health Ministry

In a press briefing on Saturday, Sima-Sadat Lari said the virus has killed 101 patients since Friday noon, the lowest figure reported since June 20, increasing the overall death toll to 55,438.

She said 1,237,474 patients have contracted the novel coronavirus so far, including 6,045 new cases identified in the past 24 hours.

Lari said 4,981 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.

The spokeswoman noted that 7,723,377 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.

She said currently the four cities of Sari, Amol, Ramsar, and Northern Savadkuh are in the “red zone”, 43 in the “orange zone”, and 401 in the “yellow zone” in terms of coronavirus outbreak.

IRGC Chief Visits Persian Gulf Military Base as Tensions with US Rise

Accompanied by IRGC Navy Commander Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, General Salami visited the military units, defence systems, and military equipment deployed in Abu Musa to assess the level of their combat preparedness.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the visit, General Salami said the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb are inseparable parts of Iran’s national independence and the country’s defensive forehead in confronting ultra-regional enemies.

He described the defensive and combat preparedness of the IRGC units in these three islands as reassuring, strong, and unbreakable, and said, “Today we are here to assess and make sure about the preparedness of our power in the sea and in confrontation with enemies who sometimes make verbal threats against us.”

“We would respond with a reciprocal, decisive and strong blow to whatever action the enemy would take against us,” Salami warned.

Salami said the IRGC Navy has in recent years achieved wonderful capabilities and gains, and what we see today is part of those capabilities and power in the sea.

“Among those capabilities is the ability to counter hostile submarines,” he added.

Smart naval mines with amazing operational capabilities, the ability to drop smart bombs from manned or unmanned aerial vehicles which can destroy hostile targets deep inside the sea, and a new generation of Vertical Take-Off and Land (VTOL) drones are among other capabilities of the IRGC navy.

New Coronavirus Strain, Cold Season, Air Pollution 3 Key Concerns: Rouhani

President Hassan Rouhani said these three are major perils for the coming months.

“I ask our dear people to observe health protocols more during these days, so that we will be able to weather these problems,” said the president.

He hailed Iran’s success in containing the spread of the disease, but called on people not to regard the situation as normal.

Among all countries grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, the countries where people observe health protocols the most and trust their leaders are the ones which are more successful in controlling the disease.

“Fortunately, with people’s good cooperation and thanks to the efforts made by all government bodies, we secured good achievements during the different peaks of the disease in the country,” President Rouhani noted.

“During the third peak of the coronavirus outbreak in the country, we managed to contain the virus sooner than others predicted through the cooperation of all government institutions,” he said.

“Today, except for 4 towns which are in a ‘red’ state, the situation has almost improved across the nation,” said President Rouhani.

“This is while Europe and the US are still gripped by this peak and are seeing a growing number of cases,” he added.

Iran’s Finger on Trigger to Start 20% Uranium Enrichment: Official

Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said the Islamic Republic is able to start the process very soon.

“We are supposed to implement the Parliament’s legislation [on increasing the country’s uranium enrichment], but the government should communicate to us a bylaw on how to enforce it,” he added.

“The president should also issue an order for us to begin the process,” Salehi said.

“Our fingers are on the trigger. The commander just needs to issue an order. Then we can start work immediately,” Salehi underlined.

“[With regards to 20-percent uranium enrichment,] we have given a letter to the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vienna to hand it over to the [International Atomic Energy] Agency,” he said.

“The [Agency’s] inspectors should come to Iran and remove the seals [on nuclear facilities],” he added.

“Under the Agency’s supervision, we need to replace the uranium gas capsule,” Salehi said.
