Iranian, Chinese Presidents Discuss Cooperation against US Unilateralism

Rouhani-China

He then referred to the strategic and long-term view of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards relations with China as one of the world powers.

He expressed Iran’s readiness for development of economic cooperation with China and said that the development of relations would further strengthen relations between the two countries in economic and trade relations, including increasing oil and non-oil exports to China.

Rouhani referred to the Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE) initiative proposed by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United Nations, saying, “Iran is ready to develop China’s cooperation with the western Asia in different issues including the resolution of Palestine’s issue, and in this regard, the HOPE initiative can be the basis for interaction.”

The President went on to appreciate China’s stances and support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) including in recent talks in Vienna, stating that the unilateral sanctions against the Iranian nation must be lifted and the Arak reactor redesign must be accelerated as per the deal.

President Rouhani also appreciated China’s help with Iran’s fight against COVID-19, expressing hope for continued cooperation between the two countries in this field and accelerated efforts for providing Iran with the vaccines it needs.

In turn, the President of China described relations with Iran as strategic and developing in all fields and stressed the operationalisation of the agreements between the two countries.

President Xi Jinping also referred to regional cooperation between the two countries and emphasised that Iran and China can play an effective role in resolving regional and international issues.

The Chinese President referred to Vienna talks and said that Beijing has always supported the JCPOA as a multilateral international agreement and its full implementation.

“The United States cannot withdraw from the JCPOA and return back to it any time they want. The lifting of all sanctions against Iran is a must for the US’ return to the deal,” he said.

He referred to cooperation with Iran on building the Arak reactor under the JCPOA and said, “We are bound by our commitment in this regard and will accelerate it.”

On the recent attacks of the Israeli regime against the people of Palestine, President Xi Jinping stressed the efforts by the international community to end the killing.

Iran Waiting to See Change in Saudi Arabia’s Behaviour: Spokesman

khatibzadeh-Iran

Speaking in a virtual press conference on Monday, Khatibzadeh said Saudi Arabia should really decide whether it wants to use the boring rhetoric and words of the past or it wants to be a constructive partner to other countries.

He said the Saudis should make it clear whether they are ready to distance themselves from expansionist and warmongering policies.

“We are waiting for Riyadh’s measures and change of behaviour. Of course Iran’s policy of supporting dialogue and regional arrangements is nothing new, and we have already welcomed Saudi Arabia’s presence,” he added.

The source said Iran’s extension of its deal with the IAEA shows the country’s good faith.

Two other sources also confirmed to Etemad newspaper that the previous deal will probably be extended today.

Iran-US Cooperation Possible if Washington Makes Right Choice

Leader Appoints Ali Larijani as His Advisor, Expediency Council Member

Larijani made the comment in an interview with Al-Mayadeen news channel, when asked about the possibility of direct negotiation between Iran and the US.

“This depends on the choice the US makes in the dilemma it faces. If, in the nuclear talks [in Vienna], it shows it has corrected its past behavior and wants to pick a new path with Iran, this can affect the relation between Iran and the US in the future,” he said.

Larijani further mentioned the Islamic revolution leader’s comments on the nuclear deal, where he said the nuclear deal can affect the relations with the US and “other jobs can be defined” if they show honesty and act accordingly. The presidential hopeful said the US missed that opportunity and thought putting economic pressure on Iran will get them somewhere, but they failed. He said the US now faces another choice. He noted that there will be no hope if they make another mistake, adding that there will be space for cooperation, if they make the right decision.

The presidential hopeful also said there is no simple answer to whether the US can be trusted and whether the Biden administration will remove all restriction on Iran at once and not gradually.

“I think currently there is no single-line answer to this question. How it [the US] acts should be tested. What the [Islamic Revolution] leader said is right. Americans have shown that they easily destroy an agreement after signing up to it.

Just like the nuclear deal. The US was the country that effectively left the table and this marred their own image. Now Mr. Biden has said he wants to make up for all those mistakes.

So there should be a logic and basics should be worked out to ensure such mistakes are not repeated,” he said.

Larijani was also asked how his stance on the 2015 nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) will affect his election prospects. He said candidates’ position on the issue has been clear all along, so this will not significantly affect their election prospects.

Larijani said he has supported the nuclear deal and continues to do so. But he warned against making haste on the issue.

“We should not be in a hurry [to get the deal back on track] for the election, so that the other party does not exploit this. I have supported the nuclear deal and I support getting it done now and it should not be put off.

But I do not agree with doing it hastily, lest it hurts national interests. I hope the foreign ministry does the job carefully and all sections of the government help the process.

As the leader said, hastening the agreement even by an hour would be in the interest of the people,” he said.
