Abbas: US to fulfill commitments under Biden

Palestinian Authority expects the United States to fulfill its obligations on peaceful resolution of the Middle East conflict, Abbas told Sputnik.

“The US administration [according to President Joe Biden] considers us partners in peace negotiations, believes in solving the conflict through the creation of two states, opposes settlement activities … We are waiting for the fulfillment of these US commitments,” Abbas said.

Abbas also added that Biden told him that his administration’s policy differs from the one pursued by his predecessor.

Abbas stated that he expects the US consulate in East Jerusalem to resume operations.

“The decision to reopen the US consulate in Jerusalem is part of the obligations of the US administration … We will not accept anything else, since East Jerusalem has been an occupied city since 1967, it is the eternal capital of the Palestinian state,” Abbas continued.

According to Abbas, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the US consulate will provide services to the Palestinians work with the US State Department directly, and be independent of the US embassy to Israel.

Abbas expects to discuss ways to revive a political dialogue in Palestinian Authority with Russian President Vladimir Putin during their bilateral meeting in Moscow on Tuesday.

“During the visit, ways of reviving the political process will be discussed … We have previously stated our desire to hold an international peace conference under the auspices of the Middle East Quartet in accordance with international resolutions, and therefore we are confident in Russian support for our efforts in this direction,” Abbas added.

The Palestinian leader also intends to “consult” with Putin and inform him about the latest developments in the region.

Palestinian Authority will hold general elections when Israel gives permission to hold them in East Jerusalem, Abbas added.

“We will hold elections in Palestine [parliamentary and presidential] as soon as we receive permission to hold them in Jerusalem. Earlier, elections were held in Jerusalem, according to agreements signed between the two sides,” Abbas continued.

Israeli troops kill Palestinian in Jerusalem

Israel Palestine

WAFA news agency reported Israeli military forces on Sunday fatally shot the 42-year-old man near the Chain Gate, one of the entrances to the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Israeli police immediately closed the site to visitors following the incident.

Israeli media outlets claimed that the Palestinian man opened fire, and was shot dead by troops at the scene.

He was later identified as Fadi Abu Shkhaydam, a resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in East al-Quds and one of the leaders of Hamas resistance movement in the camp.

The Israeli Magen David Adom ambulance service reported four people were wounded in the purported shooting attack. It alleged that two of the casualties were civilian men, while the two others were Israeli police officers.

One man was taken in critical condition to Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus in al-Quds with head wounds and was later pronounced dead. The second man reportedly sustained moderate-to-severe wounds.

Two police officers, aged 30 and 31, were lightly wounded, according to the Israel police. They were taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem for treatment.

“The message of this heroic operation is a warning to the criminal enemy and its regime to stop attacks on our land and our holy sites. Israel will pay a price for the iniquities it commits against al-Aqsa Mosque, Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah and elsewhere,” Hamas announced in a statement.

Hamas spokesperson Hazim Qasim also praised the incident, calling it in line with the “legitimate struggle” of the Palestinian people.

“The holy city [of al-Quds] will continue to fight until it expels the foreign occupier, and it will not succumb to the hateful reality of the occupation,” he noted.

Abdul-Latif Qanu, another Hamas spokesman, said the operation was part of a natural response to the growing Israeli crimes in occupied al-Quds.

He added that the incident underlines the continuation of the Palestinian nation’s struggle against the occupying regime, and Israeli officials’ inability to snuff out the campaign.

Qanu stated the Palestinian resistance against Israel will continue unabated until the desired goal of the regime’s annihilation is achieved.

Israeli troops have on numerous occasions been caught on camera brutally killing Palestinians, with the videos going viral online and sparking international condemnation.

The Tel Aviv regime has been criticized for its extensive use of lethal force against and extrajudicial killing of Palestinians who do not pose an immediate threat to the occupation forces or to the Israeli settlers.

MP: No new provision or change to JCPOA

Mojtaba Zonnuri, a member of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee says the country’s negotiators are commissioned to focus on the implementation of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) during the talks in Vienna slated for November 29, 2021.

“In fact, we will not negotiate on the JCPOA or on making changes to it, and we will not accept any new provisions being added to the JCPOA,” Zonnuri added.

“We are holding talks on the implementation of the JCPOA,” he reiterated.

“Negotiations on the JCPOA have been held before and it cannot be renegotiated,” the lawmaker said.

“So, the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to implement the JCPOA, and our negotiators are attending the talks on November 29 to accomplish this very mission,” the legislator explained.

He then criticized the remaining signatories to the JCPOA for failing to live up to their commitments.

“We haven’t seen any goodwill gestures from them, so far,” he noted.

“They owe us. We have paid the costs of the JCPOA, but haven’t reaped its benefits. We are seeking to obtain our benefits under the deal,” he said.

“We are not going to kill time and make the issue drag on,” he added.
