President Raisi likens Gaza war to Western-backed Iraq war on Iran

Addressing a crowd on Friday in the western Iranian city of Baneh, near the Iraqi border that bore a huge brunt of the war with the former Ba’athist regime through 1980 to 88, Ebrahim Raisi said, “During the (Iraqi) imposed war, the people of Baneh saw examples of what you see in Palestine today.”

He added, “If the US and Europeans crimes in the west of our country had been condemned yesterday, we would not witness such crimes in Palestine and Gaza now.”

President Raisi said that the same current that ravaged Iranian cities by funding the Saddam regime, are now supporting Israel to kill Palestinian people and raze their houses today.
“Four thousand Palestinian children have been killed. Where will this crime be dealt with?” he said.

However, the Iranian president sounded optimistic that the Palestinian resistance movement will emerge victorious in the face of the ongoing conflict that started on October 7.
Thw war has so far left nearly 10,000 Palestinians killed, almost two thirds of them women and children, according to Palestinian health ministry sources.

Death toll in drug rehab center in northern Iran rises to 32

The deputy governor of the Gilan Province for political, security and social affairs, Mohammad Jalayi, told Mehr news agency that the fire started at 06:00 am local time (0230 GMT) near the city of Langeroud.

The wounded were taken to the hospitals in Lanegroud, according to earlier reports.

Jalayi said an investigation is underway to find out the cause of the incident.

Israel’s military says surrounding Gaza City, as death toll exceeds 9k

Israeli Army

“Our soldiers have been operating in Gaza City for the past few days, surrounding it from several directions, deepening the operation,” Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi stated.

“Our forces are in very significant areas of Gaza City,” he added.

The Israeli army began its full ground operation in Gaza last Friday, moving tanks, bulldozers, infantry, and combat engineer units into the strip. While the ground operation around Gaza’s largest population center has developed slowly, Israel has maintained its constant bombardment of the besieged strip by air.

At least 9,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, according to figures released Thursday by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah. More than 32,000 others have been wounded.

A group of United Nations experts have warned time is running out to “prevent genocide and humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza, expressing their deep frustration with Israel’s refusal to halt plans to decimate the besieged Gaza Strip.

“We remain convinced that the Palestinian people are at grave risk of genocide,” the experts said in a joint statement on Thursday.

“The time for action is now. Israel’s allies also bear responsibility and must act now to prevent its disastrous course of action.”

The experts expressed “deepening horror” about Israeli airstrikes against the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza since Tuesday night, which have reportedly killed and injured hundreds of Palestinians, calling it a brazen breach of international law.

“The Palestinian people in Gaza, particularly women, children, persons with disabilities, youth, and older persons, have endured decades of hardship and deprivation,” added the experts, including several UN special rapporteurs on the rights to food, safe drinking water, and the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

“We call on Israel and its allies to agree to an immediate ceasefire. We are running out of time.”

US downplays risk of Hezbollah offensive against Israel

Hezbollah Nasrallah

“Obviously, we’re concerned about continued attacks on Israeli forces there in the north, as are the Israelis,” Kirby said.

“But I don’t believe we’ve seen any indication yet specifically that Hezbollah is ready to go in full force,” he added.

Earlier in the day, the powerful group announced it had struck 19 Israeli positions across the Lebanese border. Hezbollah has also confirmed that about 50 of its fighters have died over the past month in clashes with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah is scheduled to make his first public speech since Israel went to war with Hamas. A Hezbollah video going viral on social media is suggesting Nasrallah will “push the button” and openly enter the conflict, as Yemen has already done.

“We’ll see what he has to say”, is how Kirby responded when asked what the US was expecting from Nasrallah’s speech.

The US has warned Hezbollah to stay out of the conflict, he added, noting that “we’ve got significant national interests at play here”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also warned Hezbollah against opening a second front, threatening counter-strikes of “unimaginable” magnitude that would devastate Lebanon.

Iran, meanwhile, slammed the US for giving Israel a blank check for bombing Gaza. Speaking at the United Nations last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian stated “new fronts will be opened up against the United States” if Washington does not change course.

According to several US outlets, citing anonymous sources in the White House, President Joe Biden’s administration has been concerned that an Israeli ground incursion on Gaza could draw Hezbollah and Iran into the conflict.

IDF ground troops entered Gaza last week and on Thursday announced they had reached the road that runs along the Mediterranean Sea, cutting the enclave in half.

The United States intelligence community believes – for now – that Tehran and its “proxies” are calibrating their response to Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip to avoid direct conflict with Israel or the US while still exacting costs on its adversaries.

Amid the conflict in the Gaza Strip between Israeli troops and Hamas, tension has flared along the border between the Israeli-occupied territories and Lebanon, with exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

Hezbollah and the Israeli regime have been exchanging sporadic fire since October 8, a day after the Zionist regime started bringing the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip under a relentless and indiscriminate war.

The Lebanese resistance movement has announced the group’s “guns and rockets” were with Palestinian fighters, and stressed that it will intensify its attacks against Israel if necessary.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has recently told senior Israeli officials that Hezbollah is “ten times stronger than Hamas”, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster has reported.

Biden and his aides have advised Netanyahu not to launch pre-emptive strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, The New York Times daily newspaper has reported.

Hezbollah has already fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, forcing a humiliating retreat upon the Tel Aviv regime’s military in both cases.

The resistance movement has vowed to resolutely defend Lebanon in case of any Israeli-imposed war.

Hamas vows to make Gaza incursion ‘curse’ for Israel

Hamas

“Gaza will be the curse of history for Israel,” a spokesman for the group, Abu Obeida, said in an audio address on Thursday, the AFP news agency reported.

He also told Israel to expect heavy casualties among its forces, adding that more of the Israeli soldiers would “return in black bags.”

So far, the Israel Defense Force (IDF) has confirmed the deaths of more than 20 of its soldiers in the ongoing military operation. Earlier on Thursday, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari claimed Israel’s forces had fully encircled Gaza City in the northern part of the enclave.

“Israeli soldiers have completed the encirclement of the city of Gaza, the center of the Hamas terror organization,” he told journalists.

The Israeli military also ruled out the idea of a ceasefire in the near future.

Israel has been facing growing pressure from the UN and humanitarian groups for a ceasefire amid the rising death toll among Gaza civilians and fears of the conflict spreading elsewhere in the Middle East.

Speaking on Wednesday, US President Joe Biden stopped short of calling for a complete cessation of hostilities, urging for a “humanitarian pause” instead.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also claimed this week that Washington is “determined to deter any escalation” in the ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 9,000 people since October 7, including thousands of children.

Despite the increasing international outcry, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would continue pressing its attack.

Netanyahu told soldiers the army was “already [at] more than the gates of Gaza City” and that despite the death of several Israeli soldiers in Gaza, they were “making progress”.

“We also have painful losses, but I want to make one thing clear – nothing will stop us,” he added.

US intel suggests Syria agreed to send Russian missile defense shield to Hezbollah via Wagner Group

Putin and Assad

The Russian mercenary organization Wagner Group, which operates in Syria, has been tasked with carrying out the delivery of the surface-to-air SA-22 missile system, the people said.

It is not clear whether it has already been delivered or how close it is to delivery. The system was originally provided by Russia for use by the Syrian government, the sources added.

One of the sources said the US has been monitoring recent movement of the system, which is also known as a Pantsir. The other source added the US assessment was based partly on intelligence obtained about discussions among Assad, Wagner, and Hezbollah about the delivery of the system.

The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Wagner may provide the system to Hezbollah. Assad’s role has not been previously reported.

Wagner and Hezbollah fighters have both operated in Syria for years, where they have been working alongside Russian and Syrian armed forces against terror groups.

A third source familiar with Western intelligence claimed there was evidence of increasing collaboration between Hezbollah and Wagner in Syria.

The possibility that Hezbollah could soon have a new air defense system comes amid concerns that the fighters are considering opening a new front in Israel’s war against Hamas, on northern border with Lebanon.

Cairo slams Israeli intel document proposing relocation of Gazans to Egypt as “ludicrous”

Gaza War

“I don’t think we would — anyone would — raise such a ludicrous proposition,” Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Thursday.

“If that was the case, maybe the United States would also contemplate providing the same access to its southern border that might be expected for us in the Sinai.”

The document — downplayed earlier this week by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — proposes relocating Gaza’s civilian population to the northern Sinai, arguing such a plan would be best for Israel’s long-term security. Tent cities would be constructed in the area under the plan, with more permanent cities being constructed at a later date.

The plan also calls for a humanitarian corridor to aid the resettled population and a security perimeter be created to prevent them from entering Israel.

Shoukry told Amanpour he had not communicated with Israel about the plan.

“States are sovereign and they are well-defined by their borders, by their populations. And the issue of displacement in itself is a matter that is in contravention, is in violation of international humanitarian law,” Shoukry stated.

“So I think that nobody would undertake an illegal activity,” he added.

Netanyahu’s office downplayed the document in a statement, writing, “This is a preliminary paper, like dozens of such papers prepared by all political and security echelons”.

“The ‘day after’ is a topic that has not been discussed by official Israeli channels, which are now focused on dismantling Hamas’ governing and military abilities,” the statement read.

Israel to cut “all contact” with Gaza, send workers back to besieged enclave

Gaza War

Prior to Hamas’ October 7 attacks and kidnapping rampage, about 18,000 Gazans had permits to cross into Israel and work, where they could earn significantly more than in Gaza.

“Israel is severing all contact with Gaza. There will be no more Palestinian workers from Gaza,” the government press office said Thursday.

“Those workers from Gaza who were in Israel on the day of the outbreak of the war will be returned to Gaza,” it added.

The statement did not detail how or when the workers would return to what is now an active warzone that is being bombarded hundreds of times per day.

Intl. lawyer slams world’s inaction against Israel’s use of banned weapons in Gaza

Israeli Army

On his X account, Reza Nasri said Israel has rained down 6 tons of bombs on a Gaza refugee camp alone and that the Chemical Weapons Convention has also confirmed Israel’s use of white phosphorus against civilians in the territory.

“Why should such a regime be allowed to have a secret nuclear arms program without any oversight?” the international lawyer asked.

Nasri also said, “Where does Israel’s immunity come from?”

The death toll in Gaza from the Israeli regime’s war is reaching the 9,000-mark. Thousands of the deaths are children.

Iran’s Leader: Israel becoming helpless and confused amid war with Hamas

Ayatollah Khamenei

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Ayatoolah Khamenei also said the Israeli regime was “lying” to its people when it expressed concern over hostages held by Hamas in Gaza while shelling areas where they might be held.

“Without American support” Israel “will be silenced within days”, he added.

His remarks come days after Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said Israel had “crossed the red lines” in Gaza, which “may force everyone to take action”.

On Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei called on Muslim-majority countries to stop economic cooperation with Israel, including oil and food exports to Tel Aviv.
