Entire world enraged by Israel, US atrocities in Gaza Strip: Iran president

Gaza War

Raisi made the remarks in a Tuesday phone call with his Turkmen counterpart Sardar Bardimohamedov.

The Iranian chief executive denounced “what is being afflicted on the oppressed people of Gaza in terms of oppression and crime, by the Zionist regime and the US.”

The atrocities, he added, “have deeply affected and enraged not only all the world’s Muslims, but only the entire people of the world.”

The Iranian president emphasized the need to use all available capacities towards providing assistance to the oppressed people of Gaza.

The remarks came amid an ongoing war that the Israeli regime has been waging against the Gaza Strip since October 7 in response to an operation staged by the territory’s resistance movements.

Close to 20,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have died during the military campaign so far.

As the Israeli regime’s most dedicated ally, the US has supplied it with more than 10,000 tons of military equipment since the onset of the aggression.

Washington has also cast its veto against all the United Nations Security Council resolutions that called for implementation of an immediate ceasefire across the besieged Palestinian territory.

Islamic Jihad releases video showing 2 Israeli captivates

Israel Hostages

The footage shows Gadi Moses, 79, and Gadi Katzir, 47, speaking in front of a camera, asking the Israeli government to arrange their release.

It is not clear when or where the clips were filmed.

In the video, Moses asks Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, war cabinet member Benny Gantz and Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi to make every effort to return them to their families.

Katzir makes similar remarks, asking the government to make an exchange deal with Islamic Jihad.

Both men speak about the dangers they are facing.

“We do not want to die in Gaza. Our lives here are extremely dangerous. And we want everything necessary to be done, in order to bring us back home,” Katzir says.

Moses was taken alongside his ex-wife Margalit Moses, who was released during the truce on November 24.

Katzir’s father, Rami, was killed on October 7, and his mother, Hanna, was abducted and then released as part of the truce.

Hamas’ military wing, the Qassam Brigades, released a video on Monday showing three Israeli male hostages in captivity in Gaza.

Israel signals readiness for new temporary truce in Gaza Strip

Israel Hostages

“Israel is ready for another humanitarian pause and additional humanitarian aid in order to enable the release of hostages,” Herzog told a gathering of ambassadors on Tuesday.

The comments come amid growing international pressure on Israel to pause its assault on Gaza and to allow more humanitarian aid into the besieged territory.

A previous Israel-Hamas agreement mediated by Qatar and Egypt led to a week-long truce at the end of November during which Hamas released 86 women and children it was holding in exchange for 240 Palestinian women and teenagers held in Israeli jails. Hamas also released 24 foreign nationals during the pause in fighting.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who also serves as the Gulf state’s foreign minister, Mossad Director David Barnea and CIA Director Bill Burns held talks in Poland on Monday to discuss a potential new deal to secure the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinians in Israeli prisons and a humanitarian pause in the fighting.

“The talks were positive with negotiators exploring and discussing different proposals in an attempt to progress on negotiations”, a source briefed on the diplomatic efforts told the Reuters news agency, adding, “An agreement is not expected imminently, however.”

Hamas announced in a statement on Tuesday that it rejects any forms of negotiations about prisoner exchanges “under the continuing Israeli genocidal war.”

The Palestinian group added it is open to any initiative that contributes to “ending the aggression” and opening border crossings “to bring in aid and provide relief to the Palestinian people”.

The war has flattened large parts of northern Gaza and driven most of the population to the southern part of the besieged territory, where many are in crowded shelters and tent camps. Some 1.9 million Palestinians – about 90 percent of Gaza’s population – have fled their homes.

At least 19,667 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in the Israeli assault on Gaza since, according to Palestinian health authorities.

Israel launched the assault on Gaza after Hamas fighters from the territory stormed into southern Israel on October 7, killing about 1,200 people and taking about 240 others hostage, according to Israeli officials.

Israel is facing growing international pressure to scale back its offensive as the civilian death toll in Gaza continues to soar.

France, the United Kingdom and Germany on Sunday added their voices to calls for a ceasefire, while US President Joe Biden last week called the bombing “indiscriminate”.

Putin says Ukraine war exposed truth about Western military equipment

Russia Ukraine War

Kiev has lost over 14,000 tanks and infantry fighting vehicles since the start of Russia’s military operation in the country, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said during a Defense Ministry Board meeting.

“The myth of the invulnerability of Western military equipment has collapsed,” stressed Putin.

Throughout the Ukraine conflict, countries like the US, Germany, France, and the UK have supplied Kiev with hundreds of pieces of state-of-the-art Western-made heavy military equipment such as Leopard 2, Abrams and Challenger tanks, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, and more.

Russian forces, however, have repeatedly reported either destroying or capturing this hardware, which had often been touted in Western media as superior to anything Russia has to offer.

Earlier this month, Russian soldiers in Ukraine reportedly seized yet another batch of US and German-made heavy equipment. In a video posted by Russian journalist Vladimir Soloviev, the Russian troops could be seen approaching a Leopard 2A4 tank, which had apparently been abandoned by its Ukrainian operators as there were no signs of any damage to the tank.

In August, Russia’s Defense Ministry even organized an exhibition of captured Western weaponry near Moscow, displaying everything from American M-113 armored personnel carriers and Swedish CV90-40s to French wheeled AMX-10RCR tanks and Australian Bushmaster armored vehicles. In total, the exhibition featured over 870 types of armaments seized by Russian forces, including examples of Soviet and Ukrainian-made equipment.

In July, Putin also stated that captured Western weaponry would be “reverse-engineered” to adopt any technology that might turn out to be useful for Russian forces.

On Tuesday, Putin added Russia has the initiative along the line of engagement in the Ukraine conflict and is at liberty to conduct military action as it sees fit.

The president analyzed the frontline situation as part of a report on Russian military achievements in 2023. He also thanked soldiers and officers for their contributions during the event.

In his speech, Putin stated that the country had no intention to change the objectives that it set for itself when it decided to deploy troops against Ukraine in early 2022.

Describing the current situation, Putin said: “In the current situation “on the ground”, at the line of contact, we can say with confidence that our troops have the initiative.”

“In essence, we are doing what we consider necessary, what we want. Wherever… commanders decide active defense is best, it takes place. And where it is needed, we improve our positions,” he continued.

Ukraine has suffered significant casualties and is running out of reserves, the president added. He claimed that Kiev’s military strategy was motivated by a wish “to show to their true masters at least some results of their much-hyped so-called counteroffensive”.

2,000 endangered baby turtles embark on critical journey from Iran’s Kish to Persian Gulf

Iran Turtles

Nearly 2,000 endangered sea turtles have embarked on a crucial journey from the coast of Kish to the Persian Gulf.

This migration marks a vital moment in the ongoing efforts to protect these species from extinction.

Since its establishment in 2006, the protected site has played a pivotal role in safeguarding and monitoring turtles during their breeding seasons.

Notably, the measures implemented have shown promising results, with an increasing number of mother turtles choosing Kish Island’s beaches as their nesting grounds.

The significance of this migration lies in the unique nature of sea turtles, which return to the very beaches where they were born to lay their eggs.

This cycle emphasizes the importance of preserving these habitats and ensuring their safety for the survival of the endangered creatures.

The continued success in nurturing these turtles through their vulnerable stages signifies a hopeful step in the conservation efforts aimed at preserving these majestic creatures for generations to come.

Russia claims Ukraine has lost over 383k troops

Russia Ukraine War

According to Shoigu, “since the start of the special operation, the Ukrainian armed forces’ casualties have exceeded 383,000 service members, killed and wounded, 14,000 tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, 553 warplanes and 259 helicopters, 8,500 artillery pieces, and multiple launch rocket systems.”

The minister claimed that Kiev has suffered almost half of its overall military personnel losses since it began an attempted counteroffensive in early June. The costly push has failed to deliver any consequential territorial gains, as recently acknowledged by top officials in Kiev and Western capitals alike.

Several NATO member states have boots on the ground in the Ukraine conflict, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has claimed. Western military personnel are operating certain weapons systems, he alleged, and that hundreds of the US-led military bloc’s satellites are providing surveillance data to Kiev.

Shoigu also stated that “NATO service members are directly operating air defense systems, tactical ballistic missiles, and multiple launch rocket systems” in Ukraine. He cited radio intercepts featuring English and Polish speakers.

According to the minister, Western officers are also playing an active role in preparing Ukrainian military operations as well as training troops, both in their home countries and in Ukraine.

Russian officials have repeatedly warned that ever-deepening Western involvement in the conflict unnecessarily increases the chances of a direct military confrontation between NATO and Moscow.

The Russian defense chief went on to claim that more than 5,000 foreign fighters have been killed since hostilities broke out in February 2022, with 1,427 Polish, 466 US, and 344 UK nationals among them.

“Working in the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ interest are 410 NATO military and dual-purpose space devices,” Shoigu estimated.

President Vladimir Putin, who presided over a meeting of the ministry’s collegium, stated that Russian troops now have the upper hand along the entire front line.

Putin declared that Moscow is “not going to give up our goals of the special military operation”, adding that the Russian military currently has considerable leeway for maneuver in the conflict.

According to the Russian leader, Kiev “has to a large degree squandered its reserves, attempting to show some result to its true masters”. The last several months have also dispelled the myth that Western military hardware is invincible, he continued.

Putin concluded that any hopes of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia among Kiev’s Western backers have been shattered.

UNICEF calls for truce as disease threatens to kill even more children in Gaza

Gaza War

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed more than 7,700 children, according to the enclave’s health ministry.

“Without sufficient safe water, food and sanitation that only a humanitarian ceasefire can bring – child deaths due to disease could surpass those killed in bombardments,” UNICEF spokesperson James Elder wrote on X on the situation of children and families in the besieged enclave.

The United Nations children’s agency has recently slammed Israel’s complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, which is under a war since early October, calling it a death sentence for children in the coastal territory.

Adele Khodr, UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa explained about the dire humanitarian situation across Gaza.

“Our team on the ground describes meeting children with missing limbs and third-degree burns, and children left shell-shocked by the continuing violence that surrounds them,” Khodr stated.

Reflecting on the impact of Israel’s total siege of Gaza on children, the UNICEF official said, “Close to one million children have been forcibly displaced from their homes, pushed into tiny, overcrowded areas without water, food, or protection, putting them at increased risk of respiratory infections and waterborne diseases.”

She described Israel’s restrictions on delivering lifesaving aid into the Gaza Strip as “another death sentence for children”, adding that the quantities of aid entering the blockaded territory “are far from adequate, and the challenges have been intensified due to ongoing Israeli bombing and fuel shortages.”

Khodr stressed that an immediate, long-lasting humanitarian ceasefire is the only solution to end the suffering of children and civilians in Gaza, affirming that it is crucial to protect civilians and enable the delivery of urgently needed lifesaving aid.

“Humanitarian aid must be allowed [to enter Gaza] at a scale to prevent further suffering. UNICEF and humanitarian organizations must have safe access to all children and their families wherever they are in the Gaza Strip, including in the north,” Khodr noted.

Stressing the need for the international community to take swift action on the situation in Gaza, the UNICEF official said, “The world is watching, helpless and devastated – we cannot act quickly enough. This must stop immediately.”

Israel launched its devastating war of genocide against Gaza on October 7 following a surprise operation by the territory’s resistance groups, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm.

The Palestinian Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip announced on Tuesday that the regime’s onslaught has killed 19,667 people so far with 52,586 others injured.

At least 5,000 wounded need to be evacuated from the Gaza Strip, the official representative for the enclave’s Health Ministry Ashraf al-Qudra stated.

“We need to urgently evacuate 5,000 wounded,” the Al Jazeera TV channel quoted him as saying. Al-Qudra said the situation in shelters for displaced people is “catastrophic due to the spread of diseases and lack of medical care”. He reiterated his call for international organizations to provide medicine and fuel to keep the hospitals running.

The UN agency that caters to the needs of Palestinian refugees announced that more than 60 percent of the infrastructure in Gaza has been destroyed or damaged.

UNRWA also said that more than 90 percent of the population in Gaza have been displaced.

“This is a staggering and unprecedented level of destruction and forced displacement, taking place in front of our eyes,” it added.

Swedish appellate court upholds life sentence for ex-Iranian judiciary official

Hamid Nouri

Arrested upon arrival at Stockholm Airport in November 2019, Nouri was accused by Swedish authorities of involvement in the execution and torture of members of the terrorist Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) in 1988.

On July 14, 2022, a Swedish court handed down a life sentence to Nouri, which Iranian officials criticized as illegal.

He has been in solitary confinement since his contested arrest.

Majority of US voters disapprove of Biden’s policies over Gaza: Poll

Benjamin Netanyahu and Joe Biden

Over half of the poll’s respondents (57 percent) disapprove of Biden’s handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to a new poll by The New York Times and Siena College released on Tuesday.

Only 38 percent say they trust Biden to do a better job managing the crisis than ex-President Donald Trump.

Young voters between the ages of 18 and 29 are the most critical of the president’s policies in the region, with nearly three-quarters critical of his handling of the conflict in Gaza.

US President Joe Biden and his administration have so far turned down calls from rights groups, Palestinians, and 120 UN member states calling for Israel to agree to a ceasefire. There is also dissent growing within the Biden administration itself, with multiple dissent cables showing that many Biden administration staffers are in favour of a ceasefire.

The new poll comes more than two months after Hamas and armed Palestinian groups launched an attack on Israel on 7 October, which killed around 1,200 Israelis, according to the official tally from the Israeli government.

Israel’s response, which has included a weekslong aerial bombardment campaign followed by a ground incursion into Gaza, has killed more than 19,500 Palestinians, 70 percent of whom are women and children.

Israel’s military has targeted residential infrastructure, including hospitals and neighbourhoods, and it is currently conducting a raid on Gaza’s largest hospital, al-Shifa, Thousands of Palestinians have been seeking shelter from Israeli bombs at the medical complex.
