Iran Paralympic Swimmers Earn 13 More Medals at IDM 2016

Iranian Paralympic swimmers have maintained their outstanding performances at the Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaften (IDM) 2016 in Germany, garnering 13 more medals to raise the country’s total medal count to 31 at the prestigious event.

Mohammad Reza Rahbari, Mahdi Akbarnejad and Mohammad Mohammadi got a gold medal each in men’s 200-metre individual medley at the Schwimm-und Sprunghalle im Europa-Sportpark (SSE) indoor swimming pool in Berlin on Sunday.

Akbarnejad also finished runner-up at the end of men’s 50-metre butterfly contests, clinching a silver medal.

Additionally, Mohammadi, Morteza Parsapour and Ali Amini landed in the third spot and each pocketed a bronze medal in the men’s 100-metre backstroke, men’s 200-metre individual medley and men’s 50-metre butterfly.

On Saturday and the third day of the competitions, Akbarnejad, Mohammadi and Gholamhossein Sahebkar snatched a gold medal in men’s 50-metre freestyle, men’s 400-metre freestyle and men’s 50-metre breaststroke events.

In the men’s 50-metre freestyle section, Amini managed to win a silver medal.

Kazem Siyadati and Shouresh Delpasand were also awarded a bronze medal each in the men’s 50-metre breaststroke section.

The Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaften (IDM) 2016 started in Germany on June 9, and concluded on June 12.

Dozens of Paralympian swimmers from various countries, including Australia, Britain, Germany, Iran, Italy and the United States, took part in the tournament.
