Iran Maintains Stance on Political Solution to Syrian Crisis

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian renewed his country’s stance on finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and expressed the hope that international meetings could produce concrete results for solving the problem.

“The Syrian crisis has no military solution and the Syrian people themselves should decide their future,” Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with a visiting Lebanese political and religious delegation.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister underlined that certain political parties are planning to equip terrorist groups in a bid to incite violations of the ceasefire in Syria.

“The Syrian Army, supported by the people and the resistance, is now victorious over terrorists and it has managed to foil Israeli conspiracies,” Amir Abdollahian added.

In a relevant development on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned of the humanitarian crisis in Syria, describing it as a global concern.

Addressing a meeting at Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Zarif said that extremism and terrorism are not restricted to a single region and are global menaces.

He underlined that the humanitarian crisis in Syria is a major concern for the entire humanity, adding that “we need to redefine the regional issues”.
