Daesh releases graphic video it claims shows Moscow concert hall attack

Moscow Terror Attack

The video, which is about 90 seconds long, shows four attackers with their faces blurred and voices distorted in what appears to be the Crocus City Hall complex.

The video shows one attacker signaling to another gunman, who then walks past a door where people are hiding and opens fire on them.

Bodies and blood can be seen on the floor, with fire raging at a distance.

The video also shows one of the attackers slitting the throat of a man lying on his back.

The video ends with the four attackers walking away inside the building as smoke can be seen at a distance.

On Friday, ISIS or ISIL claimed responsibility for the attack, according to a short statement published by Amaq.

On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested Ukraine was behind the attack, stating the perpetrators had “tried to hide and moved towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window was prepared for them on the Ukrainian side to cross the border”.

Ukraine has vehemently denied any connection to Friday’s attack.

At least 133 people were killed and 152 injured in Friday’s attack.

UN chief says blocked Gaza aid amid starvation a ‘moral outrage’

António Guterres

“I have come to Rafah to shine a spotlight on the pain of Palestinians in Gaza,” the UN chief said on Saturday, addressing a news conference in El Arish, in Egypt’s northern Sinai, where much of the international relief for Gaza is stockpiled as Israel continues to block aid from entering.

“Here, from this crossing, we see the heartbreak and heartlessness of it all. A long line of blocked relief trucks on one side of the gates, the long shadow of starvation on the other,” he added.

“That is more than tragic. It is a moral outrage. Any further onslaught will make things even worse – worse for Palestinian civilians, worse for hostages and worse for all people in the region.”

The visit by Guterres, which is a part of his annual “solidarity trip” to Muslim countries during Ramadan, comes as Israel faces global pressure to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza, which has been devastated by more than five months of war.

“You cannot see so many people being killed, you cannot see so much suffering without feeling hugely frustrated,” Guterres said while taking questions from reporters.

“We don’t have the power to stop [the war in Gaza], I appeal to those who have the power to stop it to do it,” he added.

Several NGOs and rights organisation have accused Israel of deliberately blocking aid to Gaza as warnings of famine in the besieged strip rise.

Receiving Guterres at the airport in El Arish, regional governor Mohamed Shusha said some 7,000 trucks were waiting in North Sinai to deliver aid to Gaza, but that inspection procedures demanded by Israel had held up the flow of relief.

The UN chief stressed that it was time for Israel to give an “ironclad commitment” for unfettered access to humanitarian goods throughout Gaza and said that the UN would also continue to work with Egypt to “streamline” the flow of aid into Gaza.

“It’s time to truly flood Gaza with life-saving aid. The choice is clear: either surge or starvation,” Guterres said.

This week, a global food monitor warned that famine was imminent in northern Gaza and could spread to other parts of the territory if a ceasefire is not agreed.

In a post on the social media platform X, Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said a food convoy had been denied access to northern Gaza for the second time this week.

Lazzarini noted the last time the UNRWA was able to deliver aid to the northern part of the enclave, where starvation is spreading, was two months ago.

“This is a man-made hunger & looming famine which can still be averted,” he said. “The Israeli authorities must allow delivering food aid at scale to the north including via UNRWA, the largest humanitarian organisation in Gaza.”

Israel has kept all but one of its land crossings into the enclave closed. It opened the Karem Abu Salem crossing (which Israel calls Kerem Shalom) close to Rafah in late December and denies accusations by Egypt, rights groups and UN agencies that it has delayed deliveries of humanitarian relief.

Since October, more than 32,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, most of them women and children, according to local health authorities.

Guterres highlighted that the continuing war has become an obstacle for delivering aid in the region with continuous violence and bombardments killing people and humanitarian workers at aid distribution points.

On Saturday, near the time of Guterres’s news conference, at least 19 people were killed in Israeli shelling as aid was being distributed at the Kuwait Roundabout in Gaza City, authorities in Gaza said.

This attack at a food distribution point, a primary location for delivering assistance to the northern part of the strip, comes days after at least 21 Palestinian people were killed by Israeli troops in Gaza City, while waiting for aid.

“There is no way to have an effective aid distribution in Gaza without a humanitarian ceasefire,” the UN chief told reporters, adding that it was also time for all captives being held by Hamas in Gaza to be released.

Zelensky accuses Putin of trying to blame Kiev for deadly attack on Moscow concert

Putin and Zelensky

On Saturday, Putin told the Russian people that the perpetrators of the Crocus City Hall attack had “tried to hide and moved towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window was prepared for them on the Ukrainian side to cross the border.”

Zelensky and several Ukrainian officials have vehemently denied Ukraine has any kind of involvement in the attack.

In his nightly address, Zelensky also said that Russians “have come to Ukraine, burn our cities – and try to blame Ukraine”.

Zelensky added that if the Russian people do “not ask any questions to their security and intelligence agencies, then Putin will try to turn such a situation to his personal advantage again”.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has strongly condemned remarks on the attack made by Zelensky, who suggested Moscow itself was behind the incident.

“The only head of state stupid enough to blame Russia itself for the terrorist attack was Zelensky,” Zakharova wrote on Telegram, adding that the “self-exposure” of the Ukrainian leader is bound to “destroy” him.

The terror group Daesh claimed responsibility for Russia’s attack, according to a short statement published by Daesh-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram Friday. The terror group has not provided evidence to support the claim.

Earlier this week, Putin had dismissed warnings by the US embassy that there could be terrorist attacks on large groups, telling the Federal Security Service (FSB) that the embassy warnings were “provocative” and “outright blackmail”.

Defense Intelligence of Ukraine spokesperson Andrii Yusov has also denied his country had anything to do with the terror attack in Moscow.

“There are official statements from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Presidential Office, and the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine. Of course, Ukraine had nothing to do with it,” Yusov stated on Ukrainian national TV Saturday.

Emergency services continue to dig through the rubble of the building, which was partially destroyed in a massive fire sparked by the attackers.

Russia says US did not pass specific data before Moscow terrorist attack

“Nothing was passed,” the Ambassador said, answering the question whether any information was handed over by the US side before the terrorist act.

“No concrete information, nothing was transferred to us,” Antonov added.

“While I would say that if yesterday [on Friday] the reaction of official Washington was rather muffled, then today [on Saturday], clear statements of the articulated position already followed. The question arises whether US officials passed all the available information to the Russian side, as they state,” the Ambassador noted.

Poll: Most Americans say another World War likely in next 5-10 years

US Forces

Around 61 percent of Americans in the survey said it is either “[v]ery likely” or “[s]omewhat likely” that another world war will happen in the next five to 10 years, The Hill reported.

About 18 percent of Americans in the same survey said that they are “[n]ot sure” about the likelihood of another world war in the same amount of time.

The survey also found about 21 percent of Americans saying that another world war happening in the next five to 10 years is “[n]ot very likely” or “[n]ot at all likely”.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) said last month that recent comments by former President Donald Trump about NATO were setting the stage for another world war. He took issue with comments Trump made at a rally in which he said he would not protect European countries in NATO if they were “delinquent” in payments to the security alliance.

“Donald Trump, with what he’s talking about dealing with Russia, if Russia would start invading Europe, that would start World War III, by the way,” Moskowitz stated in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”.

“Donald Trump is talking about that, and setting the stage. You can be sure every single world leader, other than Vladimir Putin, saw that and said, ‘There is no way America can have him back as president’,” Moskowitz continued.

Other findings in the YouGov survey included about 53 percent of Americans saying that Western nations and their allies would win in a conflict between them and Russia and their allies.

Only about 11 percent said Russia and its allies would win over the West and its allies.

Putin vows punishment for everyone behind Moscow terror attack as death toll tops 130

Moscow Terror Attack

In his video address, the president declared a national day of mourning on Sunday, March 24, to commemorate the victims of the attack.

Putin expressed his gratitude to all first responders, to law enforcement, and to ordinary citizens, too, who helped the victims of the attack. At the same time, the president stressed another effort is underway, focused on the prevention of any further attacks.

”In Moscow and Moscow Region, in all regions of the country, additional anti-terrorism and anti-saboteur measures have been introduced,” he announced, adding: “The main thing now is to prevent those who are behind this bloodbath from committing a new crime.”

Vowing to punish all conspirators behind Friday night’s attack, Putin noted that, so far, 11 suspects, including four perpetrators who directly participated in the shooting spree, have been detained. The attackers were caught fleeing “towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window to cross the border was prepared on the Ukrainian side”, he stated.

“All perpetrators, organizers and masterminds behind this crime will get just and inevitable punishment. Whoever they are, whoever guides them. I repeat: we will identify and punish everyone who stands behind the terrorists, who prepared this atrocity, this attack on Russia, on our people,” the president stated.
