Iran Dismisses Allegation of Arms Delivery to Yemen

Bahram Ghasemi

Bahram Qassemi dismissed the accusation as an “outright lie”, stressing that Iran’s principled policy is pursuing regional stability and security.

He also recommended British officials to respect the will of people in the region and refrain from escalatory moves instead of distorting the truth and misusing regional conflicts.

Qassemi further criticized foreign countries’ military presence in the region, which he said has caused instability and led to the growth of extremism and terrorism.

“The regional countries are able to deal with crises and unrests by resorting to dialogue, closer interaction and pursuing the policies of good neighborliness, mutual respect and (respect for) sovereignty of countries, without the meddling of other trans-regional countries,” he added.

Iran’s Tourism Income Amounts to $1m an Hour

“Since the beginning of new Persian calendar year [started on March 20], Iran has earned $2.85bn from the arrival of foreign tourists,” Valiollah Afkhami, the head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), announced on Wednesday, August 3.

According to a report by ISNA, as translated by IFP, the country is planning to increase the income to more than $4bn in the near future.

The figure shows that the country has made $23m a day, and nearly $1m an hour within the past four months, he went on to say.

Earlier, the Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) Massoud Soltanifarhad announced that Iran has formulated plans to increase revenue from the tourism industry within the next ten years to an amount equal to the income generated by oil sales

In an interview with the Tasnim, Soltanifar said according to the plans, Iran’s income from attracting tourists will amount to the oil incomes in 2025.

Referring to a 12-14 percent rise in the number of foreign visitors to Iran over the past two years, he expected that the country will be hosting 20 million tourists in 2025.

With a large number of attractive natural and historical sites, Iran is one of the most touristic countries in the world.

More foreign tourists are starting to arrive in Iran after a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) came into force and nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions were terminated.

Back in February 2016, the then Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari announced a decision that will enable the citizens of all but nine countries to obtain Iran’s visa on arrival at the country’s airports.

Japan’s Investment in 3 Major Projects in Iran’s Underdeveloped Province

n00097049-t

According to a report by IRNA, as translated by IFP, Ali Owsat Hashemi, the Governor-General of the province, announced that the three projects include the construction of an international airport, the development of Chabahar Port, and the construction of Chabahar-Sarakhs railway.

“Japan is going to make a $10bn investment in these six major projects,” he went on to say.

The province is the largest in Iran, with an area of 181,785 square kilometres and a population of 2.5 million.

The province today is the most underdeveloped, desolate, and poorest of Iran’s provinces. The Iranian government has been trying to reverse this situation by implementing new plans such as developing the Chabahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone.

Japan’s investment can be a major step to accelerate the province’s development.

In a meeting with Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi in Baku, the Azeri leader hailed Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s upcoming trip to Baku.

Such high-profile reciprocal visits signify perfect relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, he added.

The Iranian president is expected to visit Baku in the next few days to attend a trilateral meeting with Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Elsewhere in the meeting, the Azeri president and the Iranian minister discussed political and economic cooperation between the two nations in diverse fields, including oil and gas industry, transportation, investment, banking, agriculture and tourism.

Vaezi, who chairs Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Commission, arrived in Baku on Tuesday to prepare the ground for President Rouhani’s visit.

Iran and Azerbaijan have accelerated efforts in recent years to forge closer partnership in various areas.

Back in February, Aliyev paid an official visit to Tehran, during which the two sides signed eleven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.

So-Called Strategist Arrested over His Remarks against Iranian Army

ostad-abbasi

Abbasi’s website announced that he has been arrested on Wednesday morning after appearing in a military court.

Calling himself the ‘Kissinger of Islam’, he is known for his controversial speeches about various fields like Cinema, Economy, History and Politics.

In a video clip recently published of his remarks during a speech back in 2009 in University of Tehran, Abbasi lashes out at the Iranian Army’s inaction, particularly over the country’s political and social issues.

The remarks were widely criticized by Iranian officials, especially those in the IRGC and the Army, which are the two units of Iranian Armed Forces.

Head of the IRGC’s Public Relations Department General Ramezan Sharif said on Sunday, July 31, that the IRGC never confirms such remarks, and any move that weakens the Islamic Republic’s institutions and structures is condemned.

Earlier, the Commander of Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan noted that Abbasi should apologize for his remarks.

He said the Army’s legal department has filed a lawsuit against Abbasi, and he should appear in the court soon.

Abbasi’s Wednesday arrest came in spite of his apology. He had earlier appeared in the military court and explained about his remarks.

After the court appearance, he sent a message on Monday, August 1, to Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi and apologized for his remarks. He at the same time noted that the move to release the video after six years was an effort by ‘liberals’ and ‘anti-Revolution’ media to deviate Iranian public opinion from such important issues as the astronomical salaries, widespread economic downturn, the US betrayal in the post-JCPOA era, a secret meeting [between President Hassan Rouhani and Israelis] in August 1986 in Paris, among other things.

Intelligence Ministry Details Terrorist Group’s Crimes in West of Iran

139408042015123436390424

In a statement on Wednesday, the Intelligence Ministry offered a brief history of formation of the notorious Takfiri team, established in winter 2008 as the ‘Abu Bakr group’ in western Iran.

The group, which later became known as Toheed and Jihad, launched its first terrorist attack on April 24, 2009, when 27 of its members raided a police headquarters and killed or wounded a number of police forces, it said.

Some two years of criminal activities by the Takfiri group claimed 20 lives, including that of Mohammad Sheikholeslam, Kurdistan Province’s representative in the Assembly of Experts, and Borhan Ali, a renowned Sunni cleric, and injured 40 others, the statement added.

Under the influence of the Takfiri-Wahhabi ideology, the terrorist group started attacks against Kurdistan citizens by offering an arbitrary and narrow definition of Muslim, and killed a number of clerics and Sunni religious figures, it added.

According to the statement, the Takfiri group then launched broad terrorist attacks to traumatize people and create insecurity.

However, the intelligence forces dealt an initial heavy blow to the group and averted extensive military operations, it noted.

The statement also enumerated a list of violent crimes by the group, including armed burglaries, assassination of security forces and officials, and thefts.

Following months of efforts by the intelligence forces, the notorious group was finally disbanded on April 21, 2011, when its last remaining den was identified in the provincial capital of Sanandaj, the statement added.

Iran to Build 800 Power Plants: Deputy Minister

Iran plans to build more than 800 power plants in the next 20 years in an attempt to increase the country’s current installed power capacity from 75,000 megawatts to 100,000 megawatts, Hooshang Falahatian told Turkey’s Anadolu news agency recently.

He added that the country will offer opportunities to invest $250 billion in 12 different sectors, including energy.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the deputy energy minister highlighted the importance of enhanced ties between Tehran and Ankara in the field of renewable energy, saying, “There are many reasons for accepting and inviting Turkish clean energy investors to Iran in realizing common activities.”

“We are interested very much in developing cooperation with Turkey in many fields,” he underlined.

Back in April, Iran and Turkey signed eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas.

The two neighboring countries have ramped up efforts in recent months to boost bilateral trade after implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), on January 16.

Al Jazeera, the Mouthpiece of Terrorists in Battle of Aleppo

202970802

According to a report by Mashregh, as translated by IFP, since the beginning of terrorist attacks against the Syrian government, Al Jazeera has become the media wing of terrorist groups.

Within the past 48 hours, Al Jazeera’s Arabic and English correspondents have had numerous interviews with commanders of Nusra Front and other terrorist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda.

1778428_797The correspondents are accompanying the terrorists in the battle against Syrian army’s positions.

Qatar has been the most important supporter of such terrorist groups as Al-Qaeda, and has already provided financial and media aid for these groups in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon.

Al-Nusra Front or Jabhat al-Nusra was the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda until 2016. On July 28, 2016, Jabhat al-Nusra announced that it has split from al-Qaeda.

1778429_246The Leader Abu Mohammed al-Julani, in his first recorded message, said its new name would be Jabhat Fateh al-Sham [Front for the Conquest of Syria].

Vaccination of Immigrants Costs Iran $2.9m Annually

Afghan Refugees

In an interview with IRNA, as translated by IFP, Mohammad Mahdi Gouya, the Director of Health Ministry’s Centre for Communicable Disease Control, said the Ministry has allocated an annual budget of $2.9m to defray the costs of vaccination for legal and illegal immigrants.

“The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) pays only a quarter of the amount,” he added.

For 40 years, Iran has been providing health services for immigrants and refugees as well as Iranian citizens.

Gouya underlined that the Health Ministry gives health services to foreign nationals open-handedly based on two reasons.

“Humanitarian motivation is the first incentive that concerns us with the health conditions of immigrants and refugees; however, the health of Iranian citizens is the second, yet chief, reason.”

Preventing the spread of diseases among Iranian citizens is one of the main reasons for providing immigrants with health services, he reiterated.

“What matters is that we are curbing the spread of disease in a society, not just in one single immigrant.”

He referred to the control of vaccine-preventable diseases as the prime concern of the Ministry of Health and said, “Polio and measles are the first priorities.”

Immigrants and refugees living in Iran, as well as Iranians, receive the most expensive polio vaccines for free.

Gouya pointed to the eradication of polio as a global initiative, and said, “Since preventing polio has always been of the utmost importance in the country, we don’t have any record of the disease from 2,000 up until today.”

He mentioned measles, which is a respiratory disease, as the second priority for the Ministry of Health and added, “Most of the immigrants in Iran have not been vaccinated against measles, and therefore, we have to conduct the vaccination program several times in different provinces of Iran.”

The top story in all Iranian newspapers was the recent remarks by President Hassan Rouhani in a live televised interview. Both reformist and conservative papers seemed to be criticizing the government. The reformists criticized that Rouhani had not been transparent enough, and refused to name the trouble-makers. Conservatives, on the other hand, highlighted Rouhani’s unrealized promises.

The developments in the United Nations over adding or removing Saudi Arabia to/from the black list of child killers also received great coverage.
