Bilqis Spring in Iran: Reminiscent of Prophet Solomon’s Palace

Bilqis

According to a report by Tasnim, as translated by IFP, 3 kilometres away from Charam, one of the most attractive Iranian traditional gardens catches your attention.

The garden, which is covered with bushy trees, has been embraced like an eye-catching signet with a beautiful short stone fence.

The garden’s name comes from ancient Iranian legends on account of its incomparable beauty. The water springing from the ground flows gently under the apple, pomegranate, cypress, weeping willow and the splendid, tall palm trees.

Bilqis

The garden of Bilqis Spring was designed and constructed at the beginning of the second Pahlavi era by two brothers named Eskandar Khan and Djan Mohammad Khan and is reminiscent of beautiful gardens of Islamic period.

The garden, with different types of decorative and fruit trees, covers an area of over 4.5 hectares. There is a water pond in the middle of the garden that reminds the passers-by of the dream of Bilqis, the Queen Saba, in the Prophet Solomon’s palace.

Since the garden is located in a tropical area, trees of eucalyptus, cedar, oak, lotus and a variety of fruit trees such as walnuts, pears, apples, lemons, persimmons, oranges, tangerines, figs, grapes, strawberries, oranges, palm, etc. are widespread in the area.

BilqisAlso various types of plants as well as bushes and of course lovely flowers grow in large numbers.

The garden’s irrigation system relies on a few sources of springing water. After passing through the garden and giving the tourists a sense of pleasant coolness, the spring pours into a circular pool with a radius of 10 and a depth of 1.5 meters. Fashian Lake is the next destination where the spring flows in to quench the thirst of Charam plain.

It seems that in the past, Bilqis Spring used to be a popular resort for the Kings; however, now it attracts many tourists from around the world.

GOP vs. GOP: Disqualification of Donald Trump

Trump

According to a report by Etemad newspaper, as translated by IFP, fifty prominent Republican foreign policy and national security experts — many veterans of George W. Bush’s administration — have signed a letter denouncing Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy and pledging not to vote for him.

The letter, first reported by The New York Times on Monday, August 8, warns, “We are convinced that in the Oval Office, he would be the most reckless President in American history.”

“[Trump] would be a dangerous President and would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being,” said the former officials.

“Most fundamentally, Trump lacks the character, values, and experience to be President,” they added.

“He weakens US moral authority as the leader of the free world. He appears to lack basic knowledge about and belief in the US Constitution, US laws, and US institutions, including religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and an independent judiciary.”

The letter also said that Trump has “demonstrated repeatedly that he has little understanding” of America’s “vital national interests, its complex diplomatic challenges, its indispensable alliances and the democratic value.”

They also regretted that “Trump has shown no interest in educating himself.”

“None of us will vote for Donald Trump,” they said in the letter.

Nevertheless, the former officials stressed that they “know that many have doubts about Hillary Clinton, as do many of us.”

The letter came as former Republican officials used to avoid taking public stances against Trump, and such stances used to be expressed only in social media pages and small gatherings.

Many of the same leaders wrote an open letter in March during the Republican primaries condemning Trump and pledging to oppose his candidacy, at a time when other GOP candidates remained in the race.

Some of those signatories have not signed the new letter; however, many former officials in Republican governments, who had kept silent towards Trump’s policies, have felt the threat and broke their silence by signing this letter.

Among the signatories of the new letter are such prominent figures as Michael Hayden, the former Director of Central Intelligence Agency and former Director of National Security Agency; John Negroponte, the former Director of National Intelligence, former Deputy Secretary of State and former Deputy National Security Advisor; Robert Zoellick, another former Deputy Secretary of State and US President’s Representative in the World Bank; Tom Ridge, the former Secretary of Homeland Security, former Assistant to the President for Homeland Security, and former Governor of Pennsylvania; Michael Chertoff, the former Secretary of Homeland Security and former Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice; Eric Edelman, the former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and former National Security Advisor to the Vice President.

The signatories also include Robert Blackwill, the former Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Planning; James Jeffrey, the former Deputy National Security Advisor; William H. Taft IV, the former Deputy Secretary of Defense and former Ambassador to NATO. Blackwill, a former aide to Henry Kissinger, is expected to officially endorse Clinton this week.

The letter underscores the continuing rupture in the Republican Party, but particularly within its national security establishment.

Many of those signing it had declined to add their names to the letter released in March. But a number said in recent interviews that they changed their minds once they heard Trump invite Russia to hack Clinton’s email server and say that he would check to see how much NATO members contributed to the alliance before sending forces to help stave off a Russian attack.

Trump has said throughout his campaign that he intends to upend Republican foreign policy orthodoxy on everything from trade to Russia, where he has been complimentary of President Vladimir Putin, saying nothing about its crackdown on human rights and little about its annexation of Crimea.

The sharp split in the Republican Party raises the question of whom Trump will turn to for institutional memory if he is elected. The officials he denounced made plenty of mistakes, some of which they acknowledge and some they gloss over. But they are also the party’s repository of experience of economic, diplomatic and military strategies, both successful and failed. Trump’s own bench of foreign policy advisers has had comparatively little experience.

Missing from the signatories are any of the living Republican former secretaries of state Kissinger, George P. Shultz, James A. Baker III, Colin L. Powell and Condoleezza Rice.

Trump met with Kissinger and Baker several months ago, and “I came away with a lot of knowledge,” he told The New York Times in a July 20 interview. But neither of the two, who represent different foreign policy approaches within the party, has said if he will endorse Trump.

Trump: You Are Nothing More than Failed Elite

Late Monday, Trump struck back. The signatories of the letter, he said in a statement, were “the ones the American people should look to for answers on why the world is a mess, and we thank them for coming forward so everyone in the country knows who deserves the blame for making the world such a dangerous place.” He dismissed them as “nothing more than the failed Washington elite looking to hold onto their power.”

Trump identified many of the signatories as the architects of the invasion of Iraq and its aftermath. He also blamed them for allowing Americans “to die in Benghazi” and for permitting “the rise of ISIS” — referring to the 2012 attacks on the American mission in Libya and the spread of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, both of which occurred during the Obama administration. At the time, most of Trump’s Republican foreign policy critics were in think tanks, private consultancies or law firms, or signed on as advisers to the Republican hopefuls Mr. Trump beat in the primaries.

Trump’s Attack on Clinton in Twitter

Tehran’s execution of Shahram Amiri, the Iranian academic who worked as a spy for the US, has influenced the US elections as well. It has become a pretext for Trump to attack his rival Clinton.

Trump claimed in his Twitter post that the hacked emails from Clinton’s sloppy server led to the execution of the Iranian nuclear scientist.

“Many people are saying that the Iranians killed the scientist who helped the US because of Hillary Clinton’s hacked emails,” Trump said in his Twitter page on August 8.

Clinton’s campaign responded to Trump’s insinuation that Clinton was somehow to blame for Amiri’s death, censuring him for feeding conspiracy theories.

“The Trump campaign has never met a conspiracy theory it didn’t like. He and his supporters continue to use increasingly desperate rhetoric to attack Hillary Clinton and make absurd accusations because they have no ideas for the American people,” Clinton campaign spokesperson Jesse Lehrich told the Washington Post.

The US State Department also announced in a Monday statement that there was no connection between Amiri’s execution and Clinton’s hacked emails.

American officials have noted that Amiri had come to the US on his own will, but suddenly changed his mind and chose to return to Iran and be with his family.

Clinton had stressed in a July 2010 press conference that Amiri is free in the US. However, two emails sent to Clinton when she was Secretary of State and stored on her private server appear to refer obliquely to Amiri’s doubts over staying in the US. A few days after the emails were sent, Amiri went to Iran’s Interest Sections in Washington to come back to Iran.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said on Sunday, August 7, that the emails about Amiri show Clinton’s email practices were “reckless and careless.”

”I’m not going to comment on what he may or may not have done for the United States government, but in the emails that were on Hillary Clinton’s private server, there were conversations among her senior advisers about this gentleman,” Cotton said.

FM Zarif Says Iran Supports Turkish Democracy

FM Zarif

Zarif on Friday visited the Turkish Grand National Assembly in Ankara, bombed and damaged during the recent failed coup in Turkey.

Speaking at the visit, Zarif said from the very first moments Iran condemned the coup and announced that it will always support Turkey’s government and nation.

“My visit to the Turkey assembly is a symbol of Iran’s support for the country’s democracy and people,” he added.

Earlier, Zarif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks about key bilateral, regional and international issues.

The Iranian foreign minister met the Turkish president in Ankara on Friday in the most significant visit by a high-ranking foreign dignitary to Turkey since the July 15 failed coup attempt in the country.

The meeting, which featured luncheon, lasted for more than three hours.

The meeting came after Zarif held talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu and attended a joint press conference with him.

Iran, Germany Sign MoU on Sports Cooperation

139505201737509238346164

President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran Kioumars Hashemi and his German counterpart Alfons Hormann held a meeting in Rio De Janeiro.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the two officials, who are in Brazil for the Rio 2016 Olympics, stressed their resolve for promoting bilateral sports ties.

During the hour-long meeting, Hashemi and Hormann signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on enhanced cooperation in sports fields.

Based on the MoU, the two sides will collaborate in the fight against doping as well in technical areas like exchange of coaches, holding training camps and educational courses, and using one another’s experiences in various sports.

The MoU had been proposed during a visit to Tehran by Hormann back in May this year.

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games, which kicked off in Rio on Friday, will run until August 21.

Dress Code Discrimination in Favour of Saudi Royal Women

139505131050466658277734
Average Saudi women have to veil their faces.

According to a report by Tasnim, as translated as IFP, discrimination is rife in the Saudi kingdom as, except for royal ladies, the rest of women in the society have been deprived from all their basic rights.

Saudi women are not even allowed to sit behind the steering wheel for saving the life of a family member in a far-flung desert if they have to.

When it comes to hijab, they make a notable exception for royal ladies. Strange though it may seem, the average Saudis have to wear an excessive amount of hijab as far as covering their faces by a piece of veil; otherwise they would be severely castigated.

A council called “Enjoining Good and Forbidding Wrong”, dubbed the Religious Police, has been assigned by the Saudi kingdom to make sure hijab is observed in the society; however, these forces exempt royal women from the restrictions.

While average Saudi women are harshly prohibited from parks and recreational complexes, the female aristocrats freely take trips to Europe and the US regularly and have fun in tourist spots, large malls and shopping centres.

Saudi royal girls and women’s inappropriate behaviour as well as their provocative clothing have sparked anger of Saudis for several times. They openly disrespect the very same rules and laws devised by their kings and imposed on the poor, defenceless women.

This is while the KSA does not even allow Saudi women to drive.

Strangely enough, Saudi kings believe that it is permissible for royal women to wear revealing and nasty clothes and it is in no way against the Islamic jurisprudence; however, women from lower classes will be severely chastised if they violate the dress code of the kingdom. The defiant women will be flagellated and severely punished.

Women of average social status have been deprived from participating in sporting activities. The aristocrats, however, are free to do whatever they want.

Princess Reema, the daughter of Bandar bin Sultan, who is a member of the House of Saud, is a graduate of George Washington University. She has been recently appointed as Vice President for Women’s Affairs at the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia. She is also the managing director of Harvey Nichols chain store in Riyadh.

It is worth mentioning that Saudi media outlets have described the unprecedented appointment as a sign of the great potentials of Saudi women.

Royal women like Rimeh are free to pick their favourite types of clothes.

29 Iranian Prisoners in UAE Granted Amnesty: Diplomat

Qashqavi

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates’ Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said the United Arab Emirates has pardoned 29 Iranian nationals imprisoned in the Arab country.

Iran’s diplomatic mission in the UAE seriously pursues the status of Iranian convicts in the Arab country and makes requests for their release on every occasion, Qashqavi said on Wednesday.

As a result of such diplomatic efforts, a number of them are released from prison in the Arab country each year and this time 29 Iranians have been granted amnesty.

Back in December 2014, Qashqavi paid an official visit to Abu Dhabi to attend Iran-UAE Joint Consular Cooperation Commission.

During his visit, Qashqavi expressed Iran’s resolve to develop relations with the UAE in all areas, especially in consular cooperation, and underlined the need for mutual cooperation and consultation on regional issues.

The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the conclusion of the meeting.

The 17-clause document includes measures to simplify visa formalities, settle the residence problems of the two countries’ nationals, and enhance judicial ties.

Iran’s Olympic Weight-Lifter Accompanied by 2 ISIS Elements in Rio Flight!

636064158582969194

Behdad Salimi, the Iranian weightlifter and the gold medallist in previous Olympic Games, arrived in the Brazilian city of São Paulo as their flight had two special guests: two suspected members of the ISIS terrorist group.

According to a report by ISNA, as translated by IFP, the two suspected ISIS elements were arrested in an operation by the Special Units of Brazilian Police upon their arrival at the airport.

Salimi, who was also accompanied by another Iranian weightlifter Mohammad Reza Barari, said that a huge number of security forces and special units entered the airplane when they arrived in Brazil.

“They arrested the two men suspected of being ISIS members. Both of them had the appearance of ISIS militants [long beards and thawbs], and were handcuffed and transferred by the Police.”

He further referred to those stressful moments, and said, “Everyone was scared. We were all waiting to hear the sound of an explosion, and see the plane exploded. It was a very bad situation, but thank God, it went well.”

Salimi currently holds the world record in the snatch with 214 kg in his weight class. He won the gold medal at the 2011 World Weightlifting Championships in Paris, France on November 13, 2011, and set a new snatch world record of 214 kg.

Salimi became the 2012 Olympic gold medallist in the +105 kg category on August 7, 2012 with a 208 kg snatch, a 247 kg clean and jerk for a total of 455 kg.

Despite a torn ACL, total knee re-construction and over two years out of the game, Behdad returned to weightlifting in 2016 to compete in the Fajr Cup, held in Tehran and won gold.

Salimi is all set to make a weightlifting comeback, in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Iranian MP’s Controversial Use of American Car

173883

An Iranian lawmaker from the country’s southwestern province Khuzestan has provoked a controversy by paying a visit to his constituency in an American GMC car.

According to a report by YJC, voices of anger were heard when Ramhormoz representative in the Iranian Parliament oversaw his constituency in a luxurious GMC car.

Here is IFP’s translation of the report:

“Vehicles with the registration plates of Arvand Free Zone are ubiquitous in Khuzestan and I have to mention that the car I used to oversee my constituency the other day was one of them,” Eqbal Mohammadian, the Iranian MP, made the remarks in response to the recent mutterings around him.

He criticized the way the news websites are manipulating people’s minds by fabricating sophistries about the incident and said, “In the bustle of the crowd I actually did not notice the model of the car I was getting on; meanwhile, the car belongs to a friend.”

Mohammadian added that the proximity to Arvand Free Zone is one reason many people in the area drive such luxury cars.

GMC (General Motors Truck Company) is a division of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM).
