Photo of Hugging Twins Brings Tears to Millions of Eyes

twins

The two boys were born August 18 in Gainesville, Fla.

But while Mason was born healthy, his brother Hawk was diagnosed with a rare congenital condition called CDH.

The boys’ parents chronicled Hawk’s journey on Facebook — and posted the sweet picture of both brothers meeting again outside of the womb with the caption.

Mason Buchmeyer hugs his brother, and smiles, capturing millions of hearts and “likes.”

His mother, a nurse from Fort Pierce, says it was actually Mason who needed calming down that night.

“He was actually getting really fussy,” Brandy Guettler said, “And the nurse said why don’t you try laying him down next to Hawk. I said ‘Can you do that?’ So we laid him there and all of the sudden as soon as he felt Hawk, he reached his arm out and grabbed him and just started to smile. The two of them knew they were there for each other.”

She took a picture and Mason and his brother Hawk, on a ventilator, went viral.

“We posted the picture for people to see how they were doing since we were so far away at Shands in Gainesville,” Tommy Buchmeyer, Hawk and Mason’s Father said, “Every day the numbers grow. 5.6 million people have seen it. 24,000 shares. 105,000 likes.”

“We didn’t expect it to take off the way it has. We have been contacted from Ireland, Scotland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, people from all over,” Guettler said.

And except for the first few shares, most were just in love with the image, and had no idea the story behind the picture. Well, now you will.

According to a report by CBS, as covered by Al Alam, that tiny twin, Hawk, who gave his brother comfort, he himself was fighting for his life. But a few weeks later Hawk succumbed to the condition.

His parents announced his passing on Facebook saying they will always treasure the photo and the short time they had with their little boy.

IRGC Navy Equipped with New High-Speed Craft

ali-fadavi

The new vessel joined the IRGC Navy’s fleet during a ceremony in Iran’s southern port city of Bushehr.

Named after Mohammad Nazeri –commander of the elite commando units of the IRGC Navy who was martyred in May- the new vessel is the biggest Iranian aluminum-hulled ship, IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said.

With a length of 55 meters, the high-speed vessel has an operational range of 10,000 kilometers, the commander noted.

The Iranian watercraft can accommodate 100 passengers and carry a helicopter on board, Fadavi added, saying it can also sail into rough seas.

Nazeri vessel, designed and manufactured by local experts, will allow for the IRGC Navy’s stronger presence in high seas and oceans, he went on to say.

The IRGC has in recent years acquired technical expertise in the production of speed boats.

Back in May 2015, Rear Admiral Fadavi said his forces were testing military speed boats with the breakneck velocity of 110 knots (203 km/h).

The speed boats are seen by many military experts as the IRGC’s trump card in case of any direct confrontation with US warships.

The IRGC Navy says the security of the Persian Gulf will be ensured without the presence of foreign forces, particularly the Americans.

Syria Truce Mustn’t allow Terrorists to Rearm: Iran

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, Dehqan added that the ceasefire in Syria, which was brokered by Russia and the United States and took effect late Monday, is a favorable development sought by everybody.

He added that global efforts are required to maintain the ceasefire in order to dispatch humanitarian aid to civilians in besieged areas and pave the grounds for Syrians to find a political solution to the crisis in the country.

Dehqan further stated all countries must respect the legal and legitimate Syrian government because the crisis in the war-stricken country cannot be settled through military approaches.

The truce deal was announced on Friday following intensive talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry. The seven-day-long ceasefire took effect at sundown on Monday.

Hours after it took effect, a group of militant outfits, including the so-called Free Syrian Army and its affiliated groups, including Ahrar al-Sham and Jaish al-Islam, released a joint statement bashing the accord and calling it “unjust.”

The government in Syria announced on Tuesday that militants hostile to Damascus have violated the ceasefire in the city of Aleppo.

Russia has been conducting an aerial campaign against militant positions in Syria since September 2015. The operations were launched on a request by Damascus, which has long had military accords with Moscow.

Leader Urges Iranians’ Participation in National Census

139506231355149258649744

In a meeting with officials from the Statistical Center of Iran and those tasked with holding an upcoming nationwide census, held in Tehran on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei described “accurate, concentrated and scientific information and statistics” as the pillar of any effectual decision-making for the country.

The quinquennial census in Iran will begin on September 24 with an Internet-based survey that will last until October 15. Thereafter, the face-to-face method will start, which will take a month.

139506231419397108649874Elsewhere in the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei called on all Iranian people to participate in the nationwide survey and provide the census takers with accurate information to enable decision makers to come up with “correct, appropriate and effectual” plans.

As the officials have given an assurance, the information will be kept secret, Imam Khamenei underlined.

Apart from efforts to collect statistics, the “trend in changes” must be also determined to avert unexpected confusion in the contemporary world with pretty high rate of changes, the Leader underlined.

As regards the importance of accurate statistics, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to knowledge-based economy, which is a gateway to the country’s development and relies on “educated and innovative human elements”, and said the number of talented and motivated youth in every economic and technical field should be determined.

The Leader further highlighted the significance of Resistance Economy, the “real remedy for the country’s woes”, noting that executing the grand plan requires the use of accurate information and statistics and a knowledge of the domestic production and needs.

Imam Khamenei also supported the idea of employing modern tools for collecting and processing statistics, stressing that the results of the census should be made public after accurate and scientific processing by the current Iranian year’s end (March 2017).

Last week, President Hassan Rouhani ordered all state organizations to cooperate in the census plan and provide whatever manpower, services and equipment necessary for the nose-counting.

In a decree issued on Monday, President Rouhani described the plan to count the country’s population and housing as a major work for reaching a realistic image of Iran.

According to the 2011 census, the population of Iran was 75 million, showing a four-fold increase since 1956.

Iran Concludes ‘Historic’ Border Pact With Oman

araqchi

Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, announced the agreement on Tuesday.

The important step, he said, was taken during a trip by Omani Interior Minister Hamoud Bin Faisal al-Busaidi to Tehran last week, when he met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the two exchanged the required documents.

Besides outlining Iran’s longest maritime border in the Sea of Oman, the agreement justly apportioned potential hydrocarbon resources between the two countries, Araqchi said.

Border issues always turn out to be contentious ones even among allies and would require intervention by an international party, he said, adding, however, that, “Iran and the royal government of Oman successfully completed complex and tough technical and legal negotiations on the determination of their maritime border in the light of their very close relations and based on the principles of good will and good neighborliness.”

He said the conclusion of the deal between Iran and Oman came at the same time that some regional and other countries attempt to tarnish the Islamic Republic’s international image and damage its relations with its neighbors.

Iranian Administration Seriously Pursuing Mina Tragedy Case: Spokesman

Iran to Exclude Oil Revenues from Its Income Basket

Speaking at a weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said the administration has ordered the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs to do whatever necessary to satisfy the families of the Mina tragedy victims.

He also voiced the Management and Planning Organization’s readiness to provide the budget and resources needed to handle the issue.

Nobakht also underlined that Iran has taken any possible measure to deal with the Mina case in spite of Saudi Arabia’s move to sever diplomatic ties with Iran.

Last week, President Hassan Rouhani also emphasized that his administration will press ahead with legal and political measures to restore the country’s rights in connection with the fatal crush of Hajj pilgrims.

The government will not forget about the blood of the Iranian martyrs shed in Mina, the president said, stressing that legal and political steps will continue to be taken on the matter.

During last year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia, 7,000 pilgrims were killed, 477 of whom were Iranians. 12 Iranians were killed in a crane collapse in Mecca, while 465 others lost their lives in Mina.

Iran’s Judiciary Official in Italy for Talks

mohammad-javad-larijani

Heading a high-ranking delegation of Iranian judicial and human rights officials, Larijani is planned to hold meetings with a number of senior Italian authorities during the visit.

The trip is part of plans to boost cooperation with other countries on judicial and human rights issues, according to the Iranian Judiciary’s Human Rights Council.

Larijani is also expected to provide a general description of Iran’s Judiciary system and a comparison of it with Italy’s judicial structure.

These negotiations between Iran and Italy began two years ago. In November 2014, a conference was held on Italy’s Sicily island, titled “Protection of Human Rights in Iran and Italy’s Criminal Justice System”.

Back in August, Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani proposed that the Islamic Republic and Europe can begin discussions about human rights, provided that Iran would also have the chance to question the shortcomings of Europeans regarding human rights.

‘China May Build Iran’s 4th Nuclear Plant’

49fa55c9-904f-4e4e-ade8-e9d09abd9130

Ali Akbar Salehi has told Kyodo News that Chinese companies had visited a new site for the construction of Iran’s fourth nuclear power plant on the Gulf of Oman and offered financial support.

“Iran’s fourth power plant that we are going to build will be located in the Makran region of southern Iran. Chinese have already visited that region for site selection, but we have not come yet to a final agreement,” the news agency on Monday quoted him as saying.

Iran plans to build 20 nuclear power plants to produce 20,000 megawatts of electricity as the country is seeking to reduce its reliance on oil and gas. On Saturday, the country began constructing two new facilities with Russian help.

Salehi said some European countries, which he did not name, have started initial talks with Iran about participation in the projects but no agreements have been reached yet.

The Islamic Republic is also ready to consider any proposal from Japan along with “lucrative commercial support” but the issue has not been raised by either side, he said.

“Of course if we receive any suggestion or any proposal from Japan that would sound very interesting to us, we would certainly be ready to enter negotiation in that domain,” Salehi said, according to Kyodo.

“Japan is a very cautious country so we have to wait until things evolve. So we are not in a hurry. Whenever the Japanese are ready, we are ready,” he added.

Iran already runs its first nuclear power plant in Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, which joined the nationwide grid in 2012 with a 1,000-megawatt capacity.

Russian state-owned company Rosatom started the construction of Bushehr-2 on Saturday in a plan worth $10 billion. The 10-year project will include two power plants each with a capacity to generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity.

The project is part of a deal signed with Russia in 2014 to build eight new nuclear power plants in the Islamic Republic.

When these two units become operational, 11 million barrels of oil will be saved per year and emission of seven million tonnes of greenhouse gas will be avoided,” project manager Mahmoud Jafari told the ground-breaking ceremony.

dbcb024d-deea-400f-81ed-0c339c072974Iran has been pushing to join the international nuclear market since reaching a nuclear accord with the West and other countries last year.

The agreement led to Iran’s sale of 32 tonnes of heavy water to the United States, with negotiations underway for similar contracts with Germany, France and Russia.

Salehi said Iran is also ready to sell part of its heavy water stockpiles to Japan, Kyodo reported.

The two countries have already been exchanging experts to increase the level of security and safety at Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Salehi said Japan has expressed interest in setting up a “center of excellence” in Iran on safety issues along the European Union.

“So there may be a trilateral cooperation between Iran, the EU and Japan in this matter,” he said.

According to the Iranian official, there is still scope for Iran and Japan to expand their cooperation, specifically the training of Iranian experts in the so-called “3S’s” — namely safeguards, safety and security — a topic that the European Union is also interested in.

“Everything is going well in this domain,” he said.
