Condolence Theatre in Commemoration of Imam Hussein

Muharram

Ta’zieh [a type of condolence theatre or passion play] is one of the ways in which Shiites in Iran and other countries commemorate the tragic battle of Karbala.

In these plays, the actors play the roles of Imam Hussein, the third Shiite Imam, his companions, and his enemies.

IRNA has published photos of a Ta’zieh in Nooshabad, north of Kashan, [239km away from Tehran], which depicts the arrival of Imam Hussein’s caravan in Karbala, where they were all martyred by the army of Yazid I:

Iranian and Russian FMs Agree on Syria Diplomatic Push

Zarif-Lavrov

Iranian FM Zarif and his Russian counterpart Lavrov discussed the ongoing crisis in Syria in a phone conversation on Tuesday, during which both stressed that the only solution to the Syrian crisis is a diplomatic one.

Earlier, a senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that Iran and Russia must strengthen their strategic cooperation on regional and international issues, especially the ongoing crisis in Syria.

“Strong and strategic relations between the two countries are very important in the establishment of regional peace and stability and the settlement of issues,” the Leader’s advisor on international affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, said in a meeting with Russia’s special envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in Tehran.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy over the past five and a half years, which has claimed the lives of around 400,000 people.

Saudi King Salman Calls Off Royal Family’s Financial Grants

saudi-king-salman

According to a report by Young Journalists Club (YJC), as translated by IFP, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has cancelled all financial concessions given to princes of the royal family, and is paying only their monthly salaries.

He might also reconsider the staggering salaries of the Royal Family, the Arabic-language Ray al-Youm newspaper reported.

Earlier, due to the oil price slump, the Saudi King had decided to shrink the salaries of ministers and senior staff within the framework of austerity measures to tackle the costs of the war in Yemen and support for the terrorists in Syria.

He also called for a stop in foreign investments and started firing foreign workers.

Informed sources say the King has decided to cancel all financial concessions of the Princes and will only pay their monthly salaries.

According to the sources, it is not unlikely that the Saudi King decides to cancel paying the salaries to senior Saudi princes who have big plans of investment and hold bank accounts of hundreds of millions of dollars, as some of the princes’ money go beyond $1bn.

It is also stressed that Saudi Princes avoid any financial and political scandals in western countries, particularly in the US, because Riyadh is not ready to defend them due to dire foreign policy and relations.

According to this report, Saudi princes are accustomed to commit financial and sexual scandals in the West.

Riyadh is facing a critical situation, because, on the one hand, it has concerns about escalating domestic dissatisfactions, and on the other hand, its foreign relations, particularly with Egypt, are getting into crisis.

Also the relations between Riyadh and Washington have faced a severe crisis due to the approval of JASTA (the bill that allows the prosecution of Saudi Arabia in US courts over 9/11 attacks).

Saudi authorities are concerned about the loss of hundreds of billions of dollars in the US as Washington might freeze the assets as compensation for the victims of 9/11 attacks.

Iran Shut Downs 700 Dating Websites

online dating

According to a report by IRIB News Agency, as translated by IFP, Brigadier General Kamal Hadianfar, the Cyber Police Commander, announced that more than 700 illegal dating websites have been blocked, and their operators are being prosecuted.

Websites for finding one’s future spouse should have legal permissions for their operation, Hadianfar noted, adding that such licence should be issued by the Ministry of Youths.

The Iranian general further referred to numerous lawsuits filed against such websites in the past, adding that many people have sued these websites for defamation.

He said these websites claim that they are trying to solve the country’s marriage problem, while they just think about making profit, and do not care about their users’ honour.

Iran’s Coastal Waters New Home to Rarely Seen Venomous Sea Snake

Scientists Mohsen Rezaie-Atagholipour, Qeshm Environmental Management Office, Qeshm Island, Iran, Parviz Ghezellou, Medicinal Plants and Drugs Research Institute, Shahid Beheshti University, Iran, Dr. Nicolas Vidal, Département Systématique & Evolution, Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, France, and three Iranian fellows, are collaborating on a project on the biodiversity of sea snakes in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Phys.org news website reported on Monday.

In 1864, German-born British zoologist, Albert Günther (1830-1914), discovered a new species of highly venomous viviparous (giving live birth) sea snakes, thereafter named Günther’s sea snake (Microcephalophis cantoris). The species is famous because it has a very small head, compared to its body and is, therefore, sometimes called Günther’s narrow/small-headed sea snake. It is a rare species, and, since its discovery, it has only been recorded from the coastal waters of a few countries in the western Malay Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent.

During their survey, an adult Günther’s sea snake was caught by a fishing trawler (a fishing vessel pulling a baglike net) in Iranian coastal waters off the western Gulf of Oman. This was the first record of this rarely seen venomous viviparous sea snake in the area. The specimen is deposited and available in the Zoological Museum at the Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman, Iran.

As a result, the researchers have now published a checklist of the sea snake species in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, including this new record, in the open access journal ZooKeys.

There are about 60 living species of highly venomous viviparous sea snakes in the world, distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Out of them, nine have been previously recorded from the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Following the discovery of the Günther’s sea snake, the total number of sea snakes in the area is ten.

US, Israel behind Massacre of Civilians in Yemeni Capital: IRGC Commander

general amir ali hajizadeh

“Evidence shows that this crime has been committed under the operational control of the US and the Zionist regime (Israel),” Brigadier General Hajizadeh said on Monday.

The commander added that the continuous presence of US spy drones and aircraft, like MQ-1, RQ-4 and MQ-9, frequent flights of US F-16, F15, F-22 and fighter jets, and US air support for Saudi Arabia prove that the military operation against the oppressed Muslim people of Yemen has been carried out by the US under the flag of Saudi Arabia.

He further said the presence of Israeli spy planes and intelligence cooperation between the Saudis and Zionists indicate that an “evil plot” has been hatched against the Yemeni nation.

Over 140 people were killed and over 525 wounded on Saturday, when the Saudi airstrike hit a community hall in southern Sana’a, where a funeral for the father of Interior Minister Jalal al-Roweishan was being held.

The Saudi missiles tore through the hall with hundreds of body parts left strewn in and outside the building.

The death toll was one of the largest in a single incident since March 2015, when the Riyadh regime began its deadly campaign to crush the Houthis and their allies and restore power to resigned president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Sana’a Mayor Abdel Qader Hilal was reported to be among the victims of Saturday’s assault.

President: Iran Ready to Participate in Sri Lanka’s Development Projects

Iranian companies are ready for involvement in and implementation of development projects in Sri Lanka, the president said at a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena, held in Bangkok on Monday.

The two heads of state met on the sidelines of the 2nd Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit.

Elsewhere in the meeting, President Rouhani hailed Iran and Sri Lanka’s identical stances and their support for each other in international organizations, calling for expansion of bilateral relations, economic ties in particular, following the removal of anti-Iran sanctions under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

For his part, Sirisena acknowledged Iran’s role in the establishment of peace and stability in Sri Lanka, expressing his country’s resolve for boosting relations with Iran in all fields, mainly in the energy industry and agriculture.

President Rouhani concluded his Southeast Asian tour on Monday, after visiting Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand, where he addressed the ACD summit and held a number of high-profile meetings.

The summit, entitled “One Asia, Diverse Strength”, was attended by senior officials from 34 Asian countries.

Poland Builds Solar-Powered Bike Path that Glows a Ghostly Blue

Glow-bike-Path-poland

Poland can do some cool stuff. To wit: this cool bike path in a town called Pruszków. The path is made of a light-emitting material that charges in the sun and can glow for up to 10 hours in the dark, bathing cyclists in a calming blue glow.

The 100-meter track, created by construction company TPA Instytut Badan Technicznych, is still in test phase, as reported by Polish media, and covered by Khabar Online.

Glow-bike-Path-polandNext Nature Network reported that the bike path illuminates at night thanks to blue luminophores, a synthetic material that emits light after being charged by the sun. The colour blue was chosen for the path because the engineers thought it would best suit the scenic Mazury landscape.

TPA president Ruttmar told Polish publication Gazeta Wyborcza that the material used for their track can emit light for more than 10 hours, meaning it can radiate throughout the whole night and re-charge the next day as it absorbs the sun’s rays.

Glow-bike-Path-polandThe company that made it, TPA sp. z o.o is an engineering firm focused on future tech. They expect this sort of road to be useful in larger projects – highways, say – but for now they’re limiting it to bike paths until they can test the material in the wild. They said that this type of path may be installed in Warsaw soon and that it can glow in multiple colours.
