Young Cleric Saves Animals’ Lives

iranian-cleric

Here’s IFP’s translation of a report by Iran Newspaper:

The young Iranian cleric Komeyl Nezafati used to visit different hospitals to give hope to patients suffering from special diseases. In one of these visits, he met the eight-year-old Sajjad in the dialysis section. Sajjad had lost both of his kidneys years ago and suffered a lot. Nezafati donated one of his kidneys to the kid, who is a healthy boy today and goes to school.

After three years, this 32-year-old cleric has once again appeared in newspaper headlines; this time because there are photos on the Internet showing him rescuing a sick dog and feeding stray dogs and cats.

In his interview with Iran, he has talked about his life, as well as the day he encountered a puppy dog and couldn`t stay indifferent …

We feed more than 100 stray dogs and 150 stray cats in the city and the suburbs. In cooperation with two veterinarians, we also take to clinic the diseased animals or the ones wounded in accidents.

He says “I was born in Amol [in northern Iran], I live in Qom and I work in Tehran`s Firouzgar hospital as special diseases advisor!”

“Eight months ago, I went to Eslamshahr [a town near Tehran]. In a street, I encountered a puppy dog in a disastrous condition. Obviously, he was unable to stand on his feet because of excessive hunger. I learned that he was left behind. I should admit that I was afraid of dogs since my childhood and never approached them,” he said.

“But at that moment I tried to overcome my fear. I bought a pocket of milk and poured it in a pot. The excessively hungry animal began to drink it, then he barked and shook his tail for me. I had a good feeling, so I took a photo of the puppy and posted it on Instagram. Less than 24 hours later. I was surprised by people`s numerous thank you messages.”

“I re-counted the story to my father. For many years, he keeps several cats in our house because of the guilt that never left him since his teenage years. As a teenager, he threw a cat into the river and witnessed his death. Thereafter he has a permanent feeling of guilt. My father`s words and encouragement motivated me to be active in protection of animals as a member of a youth group named Mehr … we feed more than 100 stray dogs and 150 stray cats in the city and the suburbs. In cooperation with two vets, we also take to the clinic the diseased animals or the ones wounded in accidents.”

Islam is the religion of kindness. Our Imams emphasized that we should always be kind towards animals; they even gave their own piece of food to animals.

If an animal is unclean in Islam, by no means does it prevent us from helping them and saving them from death. Islam insists on being kind to animals: “Rescuing an animal is no lesser than praying,” Nezafati says.

“If cat or dog is unclean, this is a jurisprudential question, we can`t say our prayers with clothes touched by a wet dog … Islam is the religion of kindness. Our Imams emphasized that we should always be kind towards animals; they even gave their own piece of food to animals. While we hear that dogs are unclean, according to scholars` fatwa there is no problem with buying, selling and keeping guardian dogs, hounds and sheepdogs.”

Jordanian Bedouin Poet Proposes to Trump’s Daughter, Asks Her to Wear Burka!

tiffany-trump

According to Rai al-Youm newspaper, Falih Al-Jabour wrote in a poem that Jordanian officials are on their way to the White House to ask for the hand of Tiffany Trump, the president’s youngest daughter. He hoped the offer wouldn’t be turned down.

Al-Jabour proposed to Tiffany in his strange and humorous poem and even offered to pay a substantial price for the bride including 50 camels, 200 thoroughbred horses and a 15.5-acre field.

This Jordanian poet published his poem in social networks and asked the bride’s family not to reject him, as reported by American Herald Tribune and covered by Al Alam.

Falih Al-Jabour’s only condition for the marriage is that after marrying him and going to his home land, the bride has to wear burka, because she’s “so beautiful”, otherwise there will be a chaos in the tribe.

Iran Rejects ‘Absurd’ Israeli Charge of Terrorism

Gholam-Hossein Dehqani

In a letter to the council on Tuesday, Israel’s UN envoy Danny Danon leveled a series of accusations against Iran, including smuggling of weapons to Lebanon’s Hezbollah on board commercial flights.

“The letter, once again, contains a flurry of baseless and unsubstantiated accusations that are leveled against my country without, as usual, a shred of evidence,” Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Gholam-Hossein Dehqani said.

The Israeli accusation of Iran’s violation of Security Council resolutions, Dehqani said, “is equally baseless and this time amusing too, as it amounts to an innovative in-bulk leveling of accusations against a UN Member State.”

“At least, a regime that has brazenly flouted all UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions about the lands it criminally occupies is not in a position to broach such a claim against other nations,” he said.

“In addition, it is absurd and hypocritical for the representative of a regime that has occupied the lands of other peoples for so many decades and denied every basic right of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, to accuse occasionally my country of violating international law.”

Dehqani also hit out at Israel for accusing Iran of sponsoring terrorism, calling it “equally absurd and hypocritical.”

Israel, he said, “has for long been involved in terrorizing and indiscriminately targeting the Palestinian civilians, including women and children, in their own land and in terrorist targeted killings and assassinating individuals in many parts of the world.”

Dehqani said the accusations are “all a typical Israeli attempt to smoke screen their criminal policies and acts against the innocent Palestinians, including keeping  including keeping a two-million community under siege for 10 years” in the Gaza Strip.

The Iranian diplomat touched on the Israeli “bombing and shelling residential areas, destroying schools and hospitals, demolishing houses, confiscating dwellings, violating the sanctity of the religious shrines.”

Rome-Tehran Trade Ties Must Develop: Italian Industry Minister

fair

He called for closer ties between Iran and European countries, and hailed the Islamic Republic as an influential player in the regional issues and the global market.

Calenda added that he would be traveling to Iran along with Italian Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan in early 2017.

He made the remarks during the opening ceremony of a trade fair for Iranian companies in Rome on Tuesday.

He noted that dealing with the US’s continued sanctions, which have limited Tehran’s access to the international banking and financial system, would be high on the agenda of his trip.

“The central issue is to make financing channels work fully, so that all the good projects we have can become reality,” he added.

Iran’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Mine Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, also present at the ceremony, voiced hope that trade and banking ties between both countries progress further in the post-JCPOA era.

Iran and the P5+1 group of countries signed the nuclear deal, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on July 2015. The deal went into effect in January, and resolved a long-running dispute over the Iranian nuclear program.

Under the deal, Iran agreed to limit certain aspects of its nuclear program in return for sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council, the US and the European Union to be lifted.

However, the Islamic Republic complains that it still does not have access to global financial markets. Many international banks still shy away from financing trade deals and processing transactions with Iran for fear of US penalties.

Iran, Slovenia Sign 3 MoUs after High-Profile Meeting

Iran- slovenia

The two sides signed three documents that entail economic cooperation, interaction in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, as well as scientific cooperation in nanotechnology.

Slovenian President Borut Pahor and his entourage, who arrived in Tehran on Tuesday morning, attended the high-profile meeting for talks on a range of issues.

In comments at the gathering, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced Iran’s determination to expand relations with the European Union members after implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

He also referred to facilitated banking ties and insurance services as the key to enhancement of trade ties between Iran and Slovenia.

Iran, Slovenia Sign 3 MoUs after High-Profile Meeting

President Rouhani stressed that Iran and Slovenia can link the EU and the Middle East region via their closer ties.

For his part, Pahor called for a five-fold increase in the volume of trade ties between the two countries.

He also referred to plans to reopen Slovenia’s embassy in Tehran as a sign of his country’s serious resolve to boost relations with Iran.

Elsewhere, the visiting European president emphasized on the futility of any consensus on the fight against terrorism and the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) Takfiri terrorist group that excludes Iran.

Slovenia, a country in Central Europe, is going to reopen its embassy in Tehran, which was closed in 2013 as part of general austerity policies.

Iran Transfers 11 Tons of Heavy Water to Oman

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said the country sent the cargo of heavy water to Oman after the other parties to the JCPOA expressed readiness to purchase the product.

Heavy water is used in some nuclear reactors, but is not radioactive.

Under the JCPOA, which came into force in January, Iran is allowed to use heavy water in its modified Arak nuclear reactor, but should sell any excess supply of both heavy water and enriched uranium on the international market.

In April, the US Department of Energy, or DOE, confirmed plans to buy 32 metric tons of heavy water from Iran worth $8.6 million.

US Gives Airbus Green Light to Sell 106 Planes to Iran

The US Office of Foreign Assets Control, an arm of the Treasury Department, granted the license to Airbus Group SE on Tuesday to deliver more than $20 billion in jets to Iran Air in the coming years, Reuters reported.

Airbus is based in France but it must have the US authorization to export planes to Iran because at least 10 percent of the aircraft’s parts are made in the United States.

The Treasury’s approval comes in the last months of the US President Barack Obama’s administration after anti-Iran sanctions were lifted as part of a landmark nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries last year.

Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council – the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China – plus Germany signed the JCPOA in July 2015 and started implementing it in January 2016.

Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limitations on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.

In January, Iran signed a major contract with European aviation giant, Airbus, worth about $27 billion to buy 118 planes within few months. The contract was signed during the visit to France by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.

However, critics of plane sales to Iran have sought to block the transaction. The US House of Representatives passed a bill on November 17 that would bar the sale of commercial aircraft to Iran, which would also affect the US aerospace heavyweight, Boeing. The bill must now clear the Senate.

The White House announced that President Obama would veto the bill, saying it would undermine the international nuclear agreement.

The White House said US allies would view the legislation as a violation of the JCPOA.

US-led Coalition Unsuccessful against ISIS: Ayatollah Khamenei

Iran-Sloveni

“Based on one standpoint, the Americans have no plan to uproot ISIS… and seek to act in such a way vis-à-vis ISIS that this problem would remain unresolved in Iraq or Syria,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with Slovenia’s President Borut Pahor in Tehran on Tuesday. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was also present in the meeting.

“Based on the second standpoint, the Americans are keen on the settlement of the issue of ISIS but the mechanisms [used to achieve this goal] are not such that they would be able to carry out this task,” the Leader added.

Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that the outcome in both scenarios is the same and “Iraq and Syria, in particular, are in a very difficult and bitter situation.”

The Leader stated that violent clashes in West Asia and the creation of terrorist groups such as ISIS have been the result of acts of interference and imposition of the will by certain powers, adding that all countries are duty-bound to make efforts to settle such conflicts.

“The Islamic Republic, despite the propaganda by the hegemonic current, is active and effective with [the purpose of achieving] such a goal, but does not interfere in the affairs of other countries,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Leader pointed to painful events in the region and the role of certain powers in stirring instability and imposing war on nations and stated, “The Islamic Republic has always called on independent countries to play an active role in countering pressure on nations and has asked them not to remain silent and an observer.”

US-led Coalition Unsuccessful against ISIS: Ayatollah Khamenei

Ayatollah Khamenei further referred to the bombardment of Yemen and destruction of the country’s infrastructure by Saudi Arabia over the past 20 months as one of the existing “bitter events” in the region.

“Independent governments must counter such incidents because exerting pressure on a nation is in fact a pain and suffering for all humanity,” the Leader added.

The Leader also said that Iran and Slovenia enjoy great potentialities and capacities to bolster cooperation and expressed hope that the future would back up the Tuesday talks.

Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated Iran’s full commitment to its obligations under last year’s nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 group of countries and criticized the other side for its failure to fulfill its commitments under the deal.

The Slovenian president, for his part, said he had held very good talks with senior Iranian officials and expressed his country’s interest in deepening relations with Iran in all fields.

Pahor added that Iran and Slovenia share plenty of common experience and enjoy great potential for cooperation.

Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Pahor arrived in Tehran on Monday and was officially welcomed by his Iranian counterpart on Tuesday. The Iranian and Slovenian presidents held talks and attended a joint press conference earlier on Tuesday.

Cancellation of Outspoken MP’s Speech Sparks Controversy in Iran

According to media reports translated by IFP, Vice-Speaker of Iranian Parliament Ali Motahari was due to deliver a speech in Mashhad, but it was called off based on an order by provincial prosecutor.

Mottahari, who is known as an outspoken MP, was going to speak about the religious occasion of Arbaeen; however, the speech was cancelled in spite of the large audience attending the conference hall.

Seyyed Massoud Mohavvelati, a senior provincial official, told ISNA that Motahari’s speech was going to be focused on the issue of Arba’een mourning ceremony and there was no problem with the event.

“Since he was the Parliament’s vice-speaker, and his speech was on a religious topic, the Governor’s office issued the required licence for the event to be held in one of conference halls of Mashhad,” he went on to say.

“On Saturday night, Motahari arrived in Mashhad [where he was going to deliver his speech on Sunday morning], but the Judiciary official [the prosecutor] called off the event.”

We sent a letter [to the prosecutor’s office] and announced that there is no problem with the speech as Motahari is going to talk about Arba’een, but they didn’t agree,” Mohavvelati noted.

As one of the first reactions to the cancellation, the reformist lawmaker Mahmoud Sadeqi said in a post on his Twitter account that the cancellation of Motahari’s speech is a fault of the governor-general of Khorasan Razavi Province, and that the Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli should be held accountable.

In reaction to the cancellation, Rahmani Fazli expressed his regret over the move, and stressed that he has ordered his political deputy to form an investigation team to probe into the issue.

“In case of any violation of law by government executives, they should be seriously punished, and if the decisions have been made beyond the authority of the government and the Interior Ministry, a report should be prepared and sent to high-ranking officials,” Rahmani Fazli said, as reported by Tasnim.

If any executive has violated the law, he should be punished, and if the decisions have been made beyond Government’s authority, a report should be prepared on the issue and sent to high-ranking officials, Interior Minister said.

However, what made the situation more serious was Motahari’s explicit and immediate reaction to the issue.

News agencies on Sunday published a letter by Motahari to President Hassan Rouhani, in which he revealed that his speech had been called off based on a letter received by prosecutor of Mashhad.

“I hope the letter had not been sent by Mr. Alamolhoda, the Friday Prayers leader of Mashhad. It is not clear to me how this issue is related to the prosecutor or the Friday Prayers Imam,” he said.

“Those who are responsible in this regard are the governor-general and the Security Council, but they seem to be powerless,” Motahari went on to say.

He further asked President Rouhani to clarify “who rules Khorasan Razavi Province: the governor-general or the prosecutor and Friday Prayers Imam?”

“Is the Law Enforcement working under the command of governor-general or the prosecutor?”

“I’m not sure whether these ISIS-like moves against the Islamic Revolution are being made intentionally or out of ignorance,” he noted.

Cancellation of legal events are like what the ISIS terrorist group does, outspoken MP Motahari said.

Office of Ayatollah Alamolhoda, the senior cleric in Mashhad, later showed reaction to Motahari’s letter, “Ayatollah Alamolhoda do not care about such speeches and ceremonies, and preserves the right to take legal action against the person who raised accusations against him.”

Alamolhoda’s office further threatened that Motahari will be sued if he does not take back his words.

Hours after the speech was cancelled, MPs other than Sadeqi showed reactions to the issue.

All officials have the right to speak in public places, and no discrimination in this regard is acceptable, senior reformist Aref said.

In a post on his Instagram page, senior reformist Mohammad Reza Aref warned against the violation of rights that are clearly outlined in Iran’s Constitution.

All officials have the right to speak in public places, and no discrimination in this regard is acceptable, he added.

Abdolkarim Hosseinzadeh, Fatemeh Saeidi, and Fatemeh Zolqadr were among other lawmakers who showed reactions to the issue.

In a post on his Twitter account, Hosseinzadeh referred to the concerts cancelled in Mashhad based on Alamolhoda’s decrees, and said, “Was Motahari’s speech also considered a concert that was called off?”

President Rouhani also used Twitter to harshly criticize the cancellation, and described it as “a shame”.

“The cancellation of Ali Motahari’s speech in Mashhad is embarrassing. I have ordered the Interior Minister and Justice Minister to identify and name the ones who violated the law,” Rouhani said.

“The Governor-General and the Provincial Security Council, in cooperation with the Law Enforcement and security officials, are responsible for protecting legal gatherings and supporting freedom of speech,” he added.

“By infiltrating into sensitive posts, some people want to shut the mouths and cancel the speeches of others, and prepare the grounds for radicalism and dichotomy within the society,” Rouhani went on to say.

Governor-General, Provincial Security Council, the Law Enforcement and security officials are responsible for protecting legal gatherings and supporting freedom of speech, President Rouhani said.

According to a report by ICANA, Parliament Spaker Ali Larijani also said on Tuesday that the prosecutor’s move to call off the event was regrettable.

“Provincial Security Council is the body responsible for such issues. Even if the prosecutor knew that the event would face security problems, he should have raised the issue in the Council and let them decide,” he added.

“I don’t want to make final judgement, because I haven’t heard the prosecutor’s comments yet, but even when I asked the Judiciary Chief [Ayatollah Amoli Larijani] about the issue, he said that the prosecutor should have let the Security Council decide about the event,” Larijani noted.

“Under the current sensitive circumstances, such behaviours are not at all in the country’s interests,” the Parliament Speaker added.

In the latest development, Motahari’s lawyer announced on Tuesday morning that a lawsuit has been filed against the prosecutor of Khorasan Razavi province following the cancellation of his speech.

According to ILNA’s report, Mostafa Tork Hamedani said the lawsuit was filed on Tuesday and submitted to the Special Court for Government Employees.
