British Envoy in Tehran Summoned over May’s Anti-Iran Remarks

iran-fm

The ministry’s spokesman Bahram Qassemi said that Nicholas Hopton, the country’s ambassador to Tehran, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Saturday.

Speaking at the annual summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council in the Bahraini capital of Manama on Wednesday, May said Britain would contribute to counteracting what she called “aggressive regional actions” from Iran, and unveiled plans for a four-billion-dollar military investment in the region for the next 10 years.

Qassemi added that the deputy director general for West Europe affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed Tehran’s strong protest at the prime minister’s unwise remarks.

Foreign Ministry official emphasized that May’s “irresponsible, provocative and divisive” comments at the regional annual summit were unacceptable and rejected, Qassemi added.

Iran seriously expects Britain to avoid repeating such unacceptable remarks in the future, he stated, adding that the Iranian official told the British diplomat that such measures are in contradiction with the expansion of relations and would harm Tehran-London ties.

Qassemi further said that the British ambassador was also told that Iran’s regional policy was based on the establishment of peace, stability and security as well as the fight against terrorism.

Hopton, for his part, said London’s policy was to improve relations with Tehran and added that he would immediately inform his country of Iran’s message.

Also on Saturday, Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri criticized May’s recent remarks against the Islamic Republic and said such statements will only bring humiliation to those making them.

“She was invited (by the PGCC states) to the summit to speak against Iran,” he said, adding that the Islamic Republic is considered a major regional power and they cannot undermine the country by such remarks.

Deserts Should Be Protected as Much as Oilfields: MP

Lut Desert in Iran
Lut Desert: Sand dunes in Rig-e Yallan

“Iran has great natural potentials and tourist attractions we have inherited from our ancestors. We should benefit from them at our best,” noted Hossein Amiri Khamkani, an Iranian lawmaker.

According to a Farsi report by ICANA, he said, “With its rare skyscrapers, Lut Desert is an excellent tourist attraction that catches the attention of foreign tourists who visit its neighbouring provinces.”

“We should pay full attention to this natural heritage. In areas near cities, the sand dunes of Lut Desert are sometimes harvested for certain usages. The governors of Lut Desert neighbouring provinces and counties must endeavour to conserve this natural resource by preventing encroachments on the Desert.”

“As no one can encroach on oil and gas resources, no one should also be allowed to encroach into Lut Desert, which is a World Heritage Site,” Amiri stressed, stressing that the violation of Desert protection policies are considered as a crime.

In a session held on July 17, 2016, in Istanbul, the World Heritage Committee inscribed Iran’s Lut Desert as the country’s first natural site to be registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Lut Desert, or Dasht-e-Lut, is located in the south-east of Iran.

Between June and October, this arid subtropical area is swept by strong winds, which transport sediment and cause aeolian erosion on a colossal scale.

Consequently, the site presents some of the most spectacular examples of aeolian yardang landforms (massive corrugated ridges).

It also contains extensive stony deserts and dune fields. The property represents an exceptional example of ongoing geological processes.

Measurements of MODIS (Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) installed on NASA’s Aqua satellite from 2003 to 2010 testify that the hottest land surface on Earth is located in Lut Desert. Land surface temperatures reach 70.7 °C (159.3 °F) in this place, though the air temperature is cooler.

Business Insider has named Iran among 50 places to travel to in 2017, commending the country’s security as a key factor behind attracting more tourists.

The Islamic Republic is considered as one of the safest countries in the Middle East.

Business Insider has foreseen a tourist influx into Iran with more new direct flights operated from European capitals to Tehran.

The country’s tourism sector has already been thriving in the wake of a landmark nuclear deal with the six world powers back in July 2015.

Back in 2014, the country hosted more than 5 million tourists, earning some $7.5 billion in revenue.

Iran aspires to host 20 million tourists annually by 2025, with expectations of expanding the tourist sector to $30 billion.

Iranian authorities have already unveiled sweeping plans including easing visa restrictions as well as constructing new hotels as part of efforts to attract more foreign tourists.

Issuing visas on arrival at the airport for nationals of 190 countries as well as issuing electronic visas are among the initiatives the Iranian officials are mulling in this regard.

Thanks to its ancient architecture, eye-catching mosques, public baths and markets as well as incredible natural beauty, Iran has already been listed as one of the top travel destinations.

The country is home to 21 special sites registered on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Iranian VP Resolved to Change Culture of Housework Division

Molaverdi

“After the ratification of the Sixth Development Program, we would be able to carry out a 5-year plan regarding women and family,” said Shahindokht Molaverdi, according to a Farsi report by ISNA.

“Our priority is to find a balance between the presence of two genders in the job market,” she noted.

“Regarding the position of family and women’s multiple familial tasks in our society, achieving a balance between women’s work and life is a cause of major concern,” she added.

“We can’t accept quotas set on the employment of men and women; Iranian Constitution upholds equal rights to get jobs for both genders, and our efforts to achieve gender equality are made in this direction.”

Molaverdi referred to the provision of reports about existing discriminations against women in the 2016 national recruitment exam – which were followed by the strict order of President Hassan Rouhani to end such discriminations – as an example of her Department’s efforts to promote gender equality in the job market.

The qualification of women for management trainings in public sector, such as the Ministry of Industry and Industrial Management Institute, is another example, she went on to say.

“We had several meetings with female entrepreneurs and activists in order to improve the state of women’s occupation in private sector,” she noted.

“We believe that some mechanisms are needed to reduce women’s concerns about their families while working, in order to find a balance between their work and life, and improve their job security. Executive organs, in cooperation with private sector, are tasked with facilitating the establishment of kindergartens near workplaces of women with children,” Molaverdi added.

“Our most important measure now is to change the culture of housework division between men and woman. It will definitely take time,” she announced, mentioning other activities of her Department in this regard, such as adopting a flexible approach to the implementation of 9-month maternal leave, considering flexible working hours for women, and taking into account some facilities for single parents.

“By putting emphasis on women’s key role and presence in the society, the Islamic Republic of Iran has gained valuable experiences,” Molaverdi noted.

Enemy within Reach of Iran’s Armed Forces: Commander

General Massoud Jazayeri

“Today, the military forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran have dominance over the Persian Gulf region more than ever,” Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said in response to recent war rhetoric by some US politicians.

“The military and security conditions of the Persian Gulf region today are such that the enemy’s forces and equipment are fully within the reach of Iran’s armed forces,” he noted.

“If the US warmongers and their stooges make any immature and unprofessional act, they will definitely face the Islamic fighters’ crushing response,” the commander went on to say.

Back in August, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei also cautioned the adversaries that Iran’s response to any assault will not be confined to defense alone, but aggressors will face a crushing response.

In May 2015, Imam Khamenei made it clear that the Iranian nation will not let any possible act of aggression against the country go unanswered.

“The era of hit and run has ended” and the Iranian nation will chase aggressors, the Leader said at the time.
