Liberation of Iraq’s Mosul to Be Declared Soon: Official

Ammar Hakim

The Iraqi army’s ongoing battle against ISIS to liberate the northern city of Mosul from the terrorist group is being carried out with the help of the country’s popular forces, Hakim said during a press conference in Tehran on Monday.

“Since ISIS is using the residents of this city as human shield, the progress is slow, but the operation is going on, and we will declare the liberation of Mosul in near future,” he went on to say, according to a Farsi report by Al Alam.

Hakim also stressed the need for preserving the Arab country’s territorial integrity, saying that deployment of any foreign troops in any place in Iraq must take place with the approval and coordination of the central government.

Highlighting unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, he said that no foreign troops can participate in the operation without the coordination of the central government, Tasnim reported.

The National Alliance, comprising all Shiite groups and partisan blocs, is the largest political bloc in Iraq in the post-2003 era that holds 185 out of 328 parliamentary seats.

Iran and Algeria Resolved to Promote Cultural Ties

Iran’s Culture Minister Reza Salehi Amiri in a meeting with his Algerian counterpart Ezzeddine Mihoubi on Monday pointed to the commonalities between the two countries in view of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979 and Algerian War of Independence (1954–62), and said that Iran and Algeria have a long history of ties in the economic, political and cultural fields.

According to a report by IFP, Algerian minister of culture hailed Iranians’ hospitality and mentioned Ferdowsi as one of the most well-known literary figures in Iran.

Pointing to Iran’s achievements in recent years, he said that boosting cultural relations between the two countries is a necessity.

Mihoubi added that Algeria and Iran reached an agreement to cooperate in areas such as cinema, book fairs and restoring manuscripts.

Algerian Cultural Week began in Tehran on Monday in a ceremony attended by the culture ministers of the two countries.

Iran’s cultural week was held in Algeria last year with the participation of groups of Iranian artists.

The event took place within the context of a cultural agreement to make the people of the two countries more familiar with each other’s culture, customs and tradition.

The cultural week has been jointly organized by Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), Algerian Ministry of Culture, Iran’s Cultural Center in Algiers as well as Iran National Library and Archives.

During the week, Algerian poets and writers are to hold meetings in Alzahra University and Allameh Tabataba’i University and Algerian musicians will perform traditional music, Iran Daily and ISNA reported.

There will also be an exhibition of visual arts, handicrafts and traditional attires. Five movies will be screened and an exhibition on local and traditional foods will be held during the event.

Trump Picks Rex Tillerson as His Secretary of State

Tillerson

According to a report covered by IFP, in naming him, the President-elect Trump is dismissing bipartisan concerns that Tillerson, the globe-trotting leader of an energy giant, has a too-cosy relationship with Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia.

A native of Wichita Falls, Tex., who speaks with a strong Texas twang, Tillerson, 64, runs a company with operations in about 50 countries, and has cut deals to expand business in Venezuela, Qatar, Kurdistan and elsewhere.

Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, is one of the strong opponents of Tillerson. He said on Saturday that Tillerson’s connections to Putin were “a matter of concern to me” and promised to examine them closely if he were nominated, New York Times reported.

Other Republicans who have challenged Tillerson’s potential selection include Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, who expressed concern about his relationship with Putin.

Iran Marks Wheat Production Self-Sufficiency

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Monday participated in a ceremony to celebrate the success of domestic producers to hit a record wheat production level of 11.5 million tons in a year.

The last such celebration was held in 2004 when the former president Mohammad Khatami was in office (1997-2005).

Iran’s wheat production at the time had reached 10.5 million tons in a year and the country celebrated the first time it had become self-sufficient in production of the crucial agricultural product in 40 years.

Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati, who had also served in Khatami’s cabinet in the same position, said at the ceremony that the volume of wheat that the administration had purchased from farmers had increased by about four times compared to last year.

Hojjati added that Iran had the potential to double its wheat production if the required equipment and facilities were provided.

President Rouhani, in his remarks at the ceremony, emphasized that attaining self-sufficiency in production of wheat was a significant success particularly given that the country faced severe shortages of enough supplies when he took office in mid-2013.

He said the situation was so dire that the reserves of wheat in some provinces could only support demand for a maximum of two weeks.

“We had difficulties for importing wheat and transferring money to pay for the imports [due to the sanctions],” Rouhani told the participants of Iran Wheat Self-Sufficiency Celebration.

“There were all sorts of problems. This eventually made the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad become determined to attain self-sufficiency in production of strategic agricultural products.”

On a separate front, Abbas Keshavarz, Iran’s deputy minister of agricultural jihad, said that the country had attained around 80 percent self-sufficiency in production of essential agricultural products.

Keshavarz told at the same ceremony that Iran’s overall production of essential agricultural products stands at above 110 million tons a year, stressing that the figure marks an increase of 20 percent compared to the last year.

IRGC Chief Urges Basij to Focus on Strategic Activities

General Mohammad Ali Jafari

Given the complexity and diversity of its activities, Basij is expected to take a more active role in the influential measures on the path to the Islamic Revolution’s progress, the IRGC commander said at a farewell ceremony in Tehran on Monday, held to acknowledge former Commander of Basij Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi’s services.

The senior general also called on the new commander of Basij, Brigadier General Gholam Hossein Gheibparvar, to concentrate on strategic and effectual measures.

Major General Jafari then highlighted the increasing enmity toward the Iranian Basij forces, and warned that hard threats are tuning into soft ones, which would make it more difficult to recognize and counter.

Last week, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei appointed Brigadier General Gheibparvar as the new commander of Basij.

The Leader called on the new pick to push for a “more organized presence of people, particularly the youth” in the voluntary mobilization forces, and for Basij’s stronger engagement in scientific, cultural, defensive, and public service arenas.

Ayatollah Khamenei also urged Basij to ramp up efforts to monitor and foil enemy infiltration, and develop a mechanism for greater public unity and closer coordination with other related organizations.

Basij is a paramilitary voluntary force established in 1979 on late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini’s order.

The force consists of often young Iranians, who have volunteered, with a strong sense of fidelity to both the Islamic system and religious beliefs.

Iran ‘Deeply Concerned’ by Bahraini Sheikh Salman’s Jail Term

“Unfair, violent and repressive treatment of peaceful and moderate Bahraini leaders will not only fail to solve the country’s numerous problems, but will likely lead to the disillusionment of the enthusiasts for, believers in and supporters of peaceful approaches,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

He addressed the Bahraini officials and said providing military bases to extra-regional countries, requesting and welcoming foreign military forces and paying their expenses from the Bahraini people’s money would fail to “guarantee security” in the country.

The Iranian spokesperson added that “only reliance on popular power and national reconciliation” will be the best guarantee for the security of countries and governments.

During a Monday trial session, Bahrain’s appeals court ruled to uphold a nine-year jail sentence handed down to Sheikh Salman, the secretary general of the country’s dissolved al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, despite widespread criticism both at home and abroad against his imprisonment.

On October 16, Bahrain’s Court of Cassation overturned the sentence and ordered a retrial of the senior Shia opposition figure, who had been sentenced to nine years in jail in previous trials.

Earlier this month, the tribunal adjourned the trial of Sheikh Salman to December 12.

He was arrested in December 2014 on charges of attempting to overthrow the Manama regime and collaborating with foreign powers. Sheikh Salman denies the charges, saying he has merely been seeking reforms in the country through peaceful means.

Amnesty International and other human rights groups have slammed his arrest and called for his release.

Bahrain has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifah dynasty since mid-February 2011.

Manama’s heavy-handed crackdown on demonstrations, aided by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, has left scores of people dead and hundreds more injured.

Newspapers today covered the order by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to allocated $500m to the development of underdeveloped southeastern province Sistan and Baluchestan. The money will be provided by Iran’s National Development Fund.

Another top story was the remarks made by President Hassan Rouhani about the country’s self-sufficiency in wheat production. Rouhani made the remarks in a ceremony to celebrate the self-sufficiency in Tehran.

The imminent liberation of Syria’s Aleppo also received great coverage, with some papers even declaring the full liberation.

The deal between Iran and the American plane manufacturer Boeing for the purchase of 80 planes was also a top story today.

Syrian People Celebrating Imminent Liberation of Aleppo in Streets

Syria

According to a report by IFP, local residents are reportedly celebrating Aleppo’s liberation as Syrian Army reconquered almost the entire region.

Local sources in the city reported that Syrian people have poured to the streets in the Southern neighborhoods, celebrating the victory of the country’s soldiers and popular forces in Aleppo battle.
The Syrian army units started special operations in Aleppo after several humanitarian pauses declared by Damascus and Moscow to give a chance to the civilian population as well as the militants to leave the Eastern parts of the city through 8 corridors.

Full Liberation of Aleppo Imminent, Syrians Pour into Streets in Joy

Militants retreated from more districts in Aleppo city as the Syrian army and its allies are in the final stages of recapturing the city after months of battle with thousands of terrorists.

The Syrian soldiers and Hezollah forces managed to drive members of the Jeish Al-Fatah coalition of terrorist groups out of Bustan al-Qasr (Bustan al-Kaser) and al-Kelaseh districts in Aleppo city, squeezing the militants in a very small area with two choices: surrunder or die.

Jeish Al-Fatah, a conglomerate of terrorist groups under the command of the Al-Nusra Front sustained numerous casualties in Aleppo on Monday. The backbone of the umbrella group is made of Al-Nusra units, while militants from 12 other terrorist groups, including Ahrar Al-Sham, are all members of Jeish al-Fatah.

According to a Syrian military source, pro-government forces are in “the final moments before declaring ultimate victory” in Aleppo, as the neighborhoods of al-Ansari, al-Mashhad, al-Zabdiyeh and al-Sukri are the only regions still under militants’ control.

Local sources in the city also reported that Syrian people have poured to the streets in the Southern neighborhoods, celebrating the imminent victory of the country’s soldiers and popular forces in Aleppo battle.

The Syrian army units started special operations in Aleppo after several humanitarian pauses declared by Damascus and Moscow to give a chance to the civilian population as well as the militants to leave the Eastern parts of the city through 8 corridors.

District after district have fallen into the hands of the Syrian army soldiers and their allies in the city of Aleppo, as the pro-government troops have recaptured most of the blocks and districts in the Northern and Southern parts of Eastern Aleppo.

Also, tens of thousands of civilians, including hundreds of children and newborn babies, have also left the Eastern part of the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo in recent days, while thousands of militants laid down their arms and left Eastern Aleppo through the special corridor.

Over the recent months, Aleppo has been a battlefield between government forces and numerous terrorist groups.
