Iranian Inventors Supported by Iran Patent Office: Official

The director of Iran Patent Office, Mehdi Zaghimi, says Iranian inventors can envoy the support of the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology Affairs to take out patent for their scientific and industrial achievements and commercialize them, which is a costly and difficult process.

Iran Patent Office is affiliated to the Vice-Presidency, according to a report by IFP.

Zaghimi added over the past two years, the Iranian industrial and scientific society has witnessed an almost 100-percent growth in the number of patents issued by leading international centres for its inventions.

In 2015, only 48 patents had been granted to Iranian inventions, he said, adding, however, that in 2016, the figure rose to 94.

“Among the services Iran Patent Office provides domestic knowledge-based companies with is offering a 90-percnt support [to them] in the process of obtaining patent protection from leading international centres. This is because the process of taking out international patent rights is quite costly and time taking. Over the past few years, Iran Patent Office has shored up more than 30 percent of the Iranian inventions in the process of getting patent rights.”

He said previously, the entire process of the patent issuance took place outside Iran and was conducted by foreign lawyers.

However, he added, currently half of the related activities are carried out inside Iran.

“In two years, the entire process will be carried out in the country.”

He added Iran Patent Office has set up a number of [invention] commercialization and intellectual property offices in Iranian universities which hold specialized workshops on the process of obtaining patent protection for inventions.

Zaghimi put the number of these offices at 41, adding they have been established with the cooperation of Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and domestic universities.

In 2015, he said, some 160 patent applications were submitted to Iran Patent Office.

“In 2016, the figure rose to 300, of which only 30 percent are processed.”

The participation of millions of Iranian people in nationwide rallies to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution was the top story today.

Many newspapers covered the remarks made by various Iranian officials including President Hassan Rouhani who described people’s presence as a harsh and crushing response to the anti-Iran threats made by US President Donald Trump.

Another top story today was Trump’s defeat in the US Court of Appeals that ruled against the US President’s ban on the entry of seven Muslim-majority countries’ citizens to the US.

Security Forces Arrest ISIS Elements near Tehran

“These individuals sought to [carry out their] plots during Bahman 22 rituals,” Iran’s Attorney General Mohammad Ja’far Montazeri said on Friday, referring to celebrations marking the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Millions of Iranians filled the streets countrywide on Friday to relive the day 38 years ago when the nation’s hard-fought Islamic Revolution against the former US-backed regime became victorious.

On, February 11, 1979, the Iranian nation’s struggles and protests against the tyrannous monarchical Pahlavi regime came to fruition under the leadership of Imam Khomeini, the religious and spiritual leader who is known as the “great architect of the Islamic Republic.”

Security Forces Arrest ISIS Elements near Tehran

Referring to Iran’s support for anti-terrorist operations outside its borders, particularly Syria and Iraq, he said, according to intelligence obtained, the ISIS Takfiri group had had plans to conduct acts of terror inside the country.

He noted that further information on the plots of these nabbed ISIS operatives would be revealed to the Iranian nation within the next few days.

The senior Iranian judicial official emphasized that if the resistance front, supported by Iran, had not stood up against terrorists, ISIS Takfiri terrorists would have reached the country’s borders.

“Know that if you do not slap the enemy in the face outside the country and outside the borders, it will arrive at your gates,” Montazeri said.

Iran has been providing advisory assistance to Syria and Iraq as per a request by the governments of the two countries in their battle against ISIS terrorists.

An Iranian official said in August 2016 that security forces killed an “instrumental” member of the Takfiri terrorist group of ISIS and busted the terror cell he belonged to during clashes in the country’s west.

Governor General of Kermanshah Province Asadollah Razani added that the terror cell had infiltrated the western province, which borders Iraq, and had been tasked with staging suicide strikes against different targets across the country.

Iranian forces have, over the past months, engaged in clashes with terrorist groups, thwarting plots on the border and within the country, arresting several operatives, and confiscating large amounts of explosives and bomb-making materials.

Bosnian Business Delegation Due to Visit Iran on Saturday

Bosnia

The 14-strong economic delegation from Tuzla Canton, the third biggest of 10 cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be headed by Governor of Olovo Jamal Mamduch.

The Bosnian delegation will take part in Albroz Chamber of Commerce meetings to hold talks with businessmen and industrialists of the province and pay visit to Tehran, Isfahan and Kashan afterwards for evaluating various tourism and economic opportunities.

Iran-Bosnia Economic Friendship Group will also meet with the visiting Bosnian delegation to confer on improving cooperation and making use of existing trade opportunities in the private sector, Mehr reported.

Former Belgian Futsal Player Killed in Syria after Joining ISIS

ISIS

The war in Syria has left another victim who was previously linked to the world of sport. The Belgian Kamal Aharchi was killed last January on Syrian territory.

Aharchi had joined the ranks of the ISIS group and, according to several Belgian media, was questioned several times in Belgium for his relation with the organization.

Before joining the ISIS, Aharchi was one of the great promises of Belgian indoor football along with his brothers Mohamed and Abdelfattah and in fact managed to make debut with the Belgian national team.

AS reported that Kamal played at the Brussels UTD and during his career as a player he showed a somewhat problematic character (had several discussions with his coach) and also suffered several injuries in the ligaments.

Iranian Women Often Don’t Report Sexual Abuse

_92634398_160830174308_afghan-women_640x360_bbc_nocredit

“Women are so frequently denied their rights that they presume themselves to be the only person who protects them,” wrote Ghanoon daily newspaper in a Farsi article that examined the country’s regulations on street sexual abuse.

“As a social issue, the battle with violence against women can’t attract enough attention until non-governmental organizations are allowed to intervene,” the report added, stressing that no one asserts these rights.

This issue cannot receive enough attention as long as it is regarded as a taboo to be revealed by women.

Unfortunately, the legal actions against sexual abuse don’t prove very effective: the inefficiency of Iran’s law on violence against women has led to a higher level of abuse.

There are regulations such as “women’s security”, but they are not that much practical and don’t have enough cultural support.

“Mere regulations cannot solve such serious social problem if women are blamed for making complaints about the abuse and upholding their human rights,” Ghanoon added.

“Social training is a prerequisite to such regulations: everyone will know his rights and obligations this way.”

NAM Condemns Washington’s Anti-Iran Measures

In a statement on Friday, the NAM Coordinating Bureau deplored the US move to extend unilateral and coercive measures against Iranian nationals and entities, expressing support for the Islamic Republic’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.

It added that the movement adopted such a stance in line with its principled position of condemning the promulgation and application of unilateral coercive measures against NAM member countries, saying these moves are in violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, Press TV reported.

The NAM emphasized the need to respect international law including the principles enshrined in the UN Charter and the Declaration of Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation among States in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.

The movement further urged the US government to “desist (from) and repeal such coercive measures” which are contrary to international law, the UN Charter and the norms and principles governing peaceful relations among states, while affecting the spirit of dialogue and political understanding among nations.

The US Treasury Department said on February 3 that Washington had imposed sanctions on 13 individuals and 12 entities as part of bids to ratchet up pressure on Iran chiefly over Tehran’s missile program.

The NAM Coordinating Bureau further acknowledged Iran’s full commitment to the implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of the 159-page deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.

It called upon all states to “support its implementation and refrain from actions that could undermine the compliance with the commitments assumed under the JCPOA.”

Iran’s President Officially Welcomes Swedish PM in Tehran

Iran-Sweden

Swedish PM Löfven arrived in Tehran on Friday night at the head of a high-ranking business delegation.

Here are photos of the Saturday morning’s official ceremony where Rouhani welcomed him:

Military Vehicle Bombed While Entering Afghanistan’s Defence Ministry

Afghanistan

The Afghan Defence Ministry in a statement said no one was killed or injured by the magnetic bomb which was attached to an army truck.

It said that the explosion happened at 8:20 a.m. when the vehicle was entering the Defence Ministry compound.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing.

The blast in Kabul comes less than a week after a suicide attacker killed 20 people and injured dozens more outside Supreme Court in the city.

The ISIS terrorist group claimed credit for that attack.

Swedish Envoy Hails Iran’s Influential Role in Resolving Regional Crises

Swedish ambassador

Sweden’s new ambassador to Tehran, Helena Sångeland, believes her country and Iran can contribute to the Middle East’s greater security and stability through bilateral talks.

In a Farsi interview with Fars News Agency, Sångeland said in addition to their economic cooperation, Iran and Sweden can hold talks on regional issues.

Expounding on the Middle East’s crises and developments, she noted, “Sweden is very much interested in knowing about Iran’s prediction about the future of the region where the country plays a very significant role.”

“We encourage Iran to make optimum use of its great influence in the region and help find a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis. Tehran can also be of great help in providing humanitarian assistance to the people in need in conflict zones.”

Swedish PM’s Visit to Tehran

Elaborating on the Saturday visit of Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven to Iran, she said he is accompanied by the country’s Minister for EU Affairs and Trade at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, managing directors of about 20 private companies as well as the officials of a number of state-run firms and universities.

Sångeland added Löfven is not very often accompanied by such a large delegation in his foreign visits.

“The visit comes at the invitation of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani. In addition to President Rouhani, Löfven is also expected to meet with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.”

Tehran-Stockholm Bilateral Trade

Commenting on her country’s trade with Iran, Sångeland said prior to the imposition of Western sanctions on Iran, Tehran was Stockholm’s most important partner in the region.

“Currently, many Swedish companies ask questions about Iran’s investment opportunities and conditions. This year (2017), Business Sweden (Swedish Trade and Invest Council) will officially open an office in Tehran to prepare the ground for the presence of the Swedish companies interested in engaging in trade activities with Iranian firms or making investments in the country’s projects.

Banking Obstacles

Referring to Sweden’s willingness to find solutions to banking and money transfer problems in trade with Iran, she stressed that financial cooperation is of the utmost importance in the two side’s economic relations, which require greater efforts to further improve.

“The Swedish government is ready to work out a solution for resolving such problems. Nevertheless, increased banking transactions between the two countries highly depends on the collaboration of Swedish banks. Banking issues are to be discussed during the Prime Minister’s visit to Tehran.”

All-Out Cooperation

Listing the fields of cooperation between Tehran and Stockholm, Sångeland said the two sides can collaborate in any given area.

“Swedish companies have considerable experience in the field of modern technologies and related products. They have also worked out effective solutions for dealing with environmental issues and mining-related problems. In addition, we have valuable experiences in the field of health and medical treatment which can be shared with Iran. In the field of education, we have great expertise that can be passed on to your related organizations.”

Moreover, she said, Scania AB and Volvo Group — two major Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturers, specifically heavy trucks and buses — can be of great assistance to Iran in the field of transportation.

Direct Flight

“Iranians constitute some one percent of Sweden’s population. Thus, direct flights between the two countries is of the outmost importance for us. We are looking for a solution to overcome the absence of such flights.”

She also said that plans are underway by Sweden to resolve the obstacles encountered by Iranian planes for refueling.

“This is a top priority for the Swedish government,” she added.

Visa Issuance

In 2016, some 18,000 Iranian nationals applied for visa to Sweden, of which 70 percent managed to obtain one, she said.

“We expect that the figure would witness a rise in the future. Most of the applicants are those who have relatives or acquaintances in Sweden. The Swedish Embassy in Tehran also issues business visa.”

Iranian Women, Society

Hailing Iranian women’s greater presence in the society compared to the past, Sångeland said the Iranian society is progressing at a speed much faster than its previous pace.

“I am quite content to see that a large number of Iranian women are engaged in social activities. They can drive and have a significant presence in diverse sectors of the society. I was very pleased to be informed that a large number of Iranian women attend university. Talented Iranian women are required to play a significant role in the development and growth of their country. I would like to see a larger number of Iranian women in the country’s job market.”

She stressed that more active involvement of women in social and political activities requires a favourable atmosphere.

Sångeland said, “Iranians have provided me with their generous hospitality. Although facing numerous challenges, Iran is developing at a rapid pace.”

The Swedish ambassador listed the Iranian cities she has visited since taking office in Tehran (four months ago) as Kerman, Yazd, Isfahan and Chabahar port, in southeastern Iran.
