Iran to Hold First Snow Volleyball Tournament

Volleyball

The federation will hold the country’s first snow volleyball competition in association with Austrian agency Chaka2, which is the agency responsible for creating and organizing the Snow Volleyball Tour, FIVB reported.

The two-day event starts on Sunday, February 12, with 10 teams competing with each other in two groups.

According to a Farsi report by ISNA, Germany, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Russia, and three Iranian teams – Bank Sarmayeh A and B, and Firefighters Team – will take part in this tournament.

Before the beginning of the event, the Czech Republic team and Iran’s Bank Sarmayeh broke the world record by playing in the altitude of 2,600m. A game is also planned to be held at the end of the tournament at the 3,000m altitude.

The tournament will be held in commemoration of firefighters and road workers, particularly the ones who recently lost their lives in Iran.

Snow volleyball first came to prominence in the town of Wagrain, Austria, in 2008.

Intelligence Minister Gives Details about Arrest of 8 Terrorists in Iran

Religious Minorities Can Improve Iran's Global Image: Minister
Iran's Intelligence Minister Seyyed Mahmoud Alavi

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Mahmoud Alawi said the ministry forces managed to identify and foil a plot by Takfiri groups to disrupt celebrations marking the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

During the operation, carried out on February 3-9, a secret network of terrorists was identified and 8 of its key members were arrested near Tehran and in some western and eastern provinces of the country, he said.

All of those arrested were non-Iranian nationals and some of them had links with a ringleader of a Takfiri group who has recently been killed, the minister noted.

He added that the Takfiri elements had plotted to carry out suicide terrorist attacks in Tehran and a number of other cities under direct command of individuals stationed in certain neighboring countries.

Alawi went on to say that the operation revealed hidden aspects of the coordination between the Islamic Establishment’s hegemonic enemies and their Takfiri mercenaries.

On Friday, Iran’s Prosecutor General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri first revealed news of the arrests.

Millions of people in capital Tehran, more than 1,000 other cities and towns, and in 4,000 villages, poured into the streets on Friday to swear allegiance with the Islamic Republic Establishment.

The nationwide rallies were held without any security problems or incidents.

Iran’s Leader Blames US and Europe’s Interference for Middle East Crises

Leader-Swedish Prime Minister

Speaking in a meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven in Tehran on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei said the interference of certain big powers is the root cause of the existing issues in the Middle East.

“The US and many European powers have played a role in the creation of bitter events in Syria and Iraq and the regional nations, well aware of such meddling, truly hold a negative view of them,” the Leader noted, Press TV reported.

The Leader referred to the move by the ambassadors of some Western countries to meet Syria’s opposition groups and “generously providing them with weapons” at the beginning of the Arab country’s conflicts as an example of such foreign interference.

Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to improving situation in Iraq and stated that the Syrian issue can also be solved “but it requires an end to support for terrorism and warmongering.”

Current Level of Tehran-Stockholm Ties Far Below Existing Potentials

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader said Iran and Sweden have great potential to improve cooperation, adding that Tehran welcomes enhanced relations with Stockholm in all fields.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that the current level of mutual relations is far below the two countries’ capacities and noted that the Iranian nation maintains a positive view of Sweden which would prepare an appropriate ground for the strengthening of cooperation.

The Leader also referred to Iran’s vote for Sweden’s membership in the United Nations Security Council, saying that the Security Council is a major capacity that, unfortunately, has been crippled by some big powers, Tasnim reported.

However, the Leader said, playing a constructive role can help to prevent employment of double standards by the council.

Leader-Swedish Prime Minister

Sweden to Improve Bilateral Relations with Iran

The Swedish Prime Minister, for his part, described his visit to Iran as significant and historic, and said that he has held positive talks with senior Iranian officials in Tehran about economic relations and major developments in the region.

He added that his country would make efforts to implement the agreements signed by the two countries to improve bilateral relations.

Lofven said Sweden accepted to become a member of the UN Security Council with the purpose of carrying out effective measures and for that reason has supported the stances of member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in the council.

pollution-Khuzestan

Five power plants of Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran went out of service on Saturday morning due to such climatic conditions as haze and extremely high humidity, leading to a power outage in major areas in the province.
“I thank people, and apologize to them for problems they are dealing with,” said Hamid Chitchian, the Iranian Energy Minister, who was visiting Khuzestan to resolve the massive power and water cut crisis in the province.
According to a Farsi report by Khabar Online, the first and second [water] refineries of Ahvaz, the provincial capital, are already reactivated, and problems of the general water canal are being resolved.

Reuters Tries to Understate Significance of Friday Rallies in Iran

Revolution anniversary

While, reports by numerous international media confirm that millions of Iranians on Friday poured into the streets across Iran to swear allegiance to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as well as aspirations of the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and its founder Imam Khomeini, Reuters, a UK-based news agency, has claimed that only “hundreds of thousands” of people had rallied merely in a move to reject US President Trump’s warning that he had put the Islamic Republic “on notice”.
Reuters’ report was a politically oriented move to play down the significance of the Iranian demonstrations, Fars News Agency said in a Farsi report.
Based on the Iranian marchers’ photos broadcasted by Iran’s state TV (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting), Reuters wrote, “Hundreds of thousands of Iranians rallied on Friday to swear allegiance to their clerical leaders and reject US President Donald Trump’s warning that he had put the Islamic Republic ‘on notice’.”
According to Press TV, in their millions, Iranians filled the streets countrywide to relive the day 38 years ago when the nation’s hard-fought Islamic Revolution against the former US-backed regime became victorious.
People from all walks of life rallied in different cities and towns across Iran to celebrate the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
On, February 11, 1979, the Iranian nation’s struggles and protests against the tyrannous monarchical Pahlavi regime came to fruition under the leadership of Imam Khomeini, the religious and spiritual leader who is known as the “great architect of the Islamic Republic”.

Trump’s Kiss on Putin’s Cheek in The Economist’s Latest Cover

the economist

In The Economist’s black and white and pink version, the implication is that a kiss has already happened, the pink imprint of rounded lips on Putin’s cheek a match to the pink stain on Trump’s lips.
It’s not the first outré cover art the magazine has published relating to either president. Just last week there was a cover depicting President Trump as a Molotov-cocktail-holding flamethrower, as well as Oct. 22nd’s pop art style, red-eyed Putin cover, Adweek reported.
The article behind the cover, entitled “Courting Russia”, looks at what possible benefits can be had by seeking to work with Russia.

Indian Ambassador Optimistic about Future of Iran Relations

Indian Ambassador

Indian Ambassador to Tehran Saurabh Kumar maintains that his country has strong ties with Iran, saying cooperation as well as economic and trade transactions between the two nations will definitely increase.
According to a report by IFP, Kumar said Indian investors are keen to participate in Iranian petrochemical projects.
The main axis of the growing economic relations between Iran and India is their present cooperation in the development of Chabahar Port, in southeast Iran, he added in a Farsi interview with ILNA.
He further regretted that Iranian media recently labelled India an indebted state and accused it of lacking determination to make its overdue payments to Tehran.
Expounding on the state of payments between the two sides, Kumar said India has entirely settled its oil debts to Iran.
“The two sides’ trade balance is currently in Iran’s favour due to the country’s larger amount of exports to India. Compared to New Delhi, Tehran is earning greater profit from mutual transactions. India has fully made up for its trade difference with Iran.”
Earlier, due to the obstacles to foreign currency exchanges and a number of other problems occurring to payment channels, it had become almost impossible to make Iran payments in euro, Kumar recalled, adding, at present, the problem has been resolved.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the Indian rice losing its reputation in Iranian market.
Condemning the libels against the quality of the Indian rice exported to Iran, he said, “These rumours are baseless and only getting around on social networks. No one has officially confirmed the false stories about the Indian rice being polluted.”
“Indian companies intend to prove the falseness and baselessness of these rumours by presenting official evidence and documents. Iran is not the sole export destination of the Indian rice. India exports 4 million tons of rice to 130 countries per annum,” he added.

Iran May Allow Russian Jet Fighters to Use Its Airspace: Official

Considering the “strategic” ties between Iran and Russia in the fight against terrorism, Iranian defense officials may give permission for the Russian jets to fly in the country’s airspace for logistical support for the ground operation against terrorist groups in Syria, Shamkhani said on Saturday.

The Russian planes’ use of Iran’s airspace will require arrangements and joint decisions that depend on the practical needs in the battleground, he explained.

A permission for the Russian jets to cross over Iran will require expert studies, detailed checks and an accurate schedule, the official went on to say.

Iran and Russia have formed a strong alliance in recent years, with both supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s legitimate government against foreign-backed militancy.

In August 2016, Iran let Russian fighter jets use its Nojeh military airbase for missions in Syria.

Iran May Allow Russian Jet Fighters to Use Its Airspace: Official

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan had announced that the Russian aircraft fly to the Iranian airbase to be either refueled or get reloaded, noting that they use the base for more effective operation against terrorist groups in Syria.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
