Iran Makes History by Finishing 3rd in Beach Soccer World Cup

The two teams had met during the group stage at Bahamas 2017 with Italy edging Iran 5-4 in a thrilling match. The Europeans scored first that day, but it was Iran’s turn this time. Mohammad Ahmadzadeh scored his seventh goal of the tournament when he put away a second-chance opportunity after Moslem Mesigar’s shot was parried into his path.

Ahmadzadeh scored his second of the match early in the second period on another second-chance opportunity to take his overall tally to eight, according to FIFA’s official website.

Mohammad Mokhtari then struck a phenomenal overhead kick to give Iran a three-goal cushion, which was fitting as Iran have attempted the most overhead kicks of anyone in the Bahamas.

Italy got back into the match courtesy of none other than Gabriele Gori. Two goals took him on to 17 – the second a curling effort from a set piece – to move him beyond Dejan Stankovic into second place for biggest hauls at a single competition. Less than a minute later, Mesigar scored his second of the tournament.

Dario Ramacciotti brought the Azzurri back to within one goal with a well-placed, close range header. But it wasn’t enough for the Italians as Ahmadzadeh completed his hat-trick with a late penalty to ultimately seal Iran’s place in the record books.

Iran’s third-place finish is best ever for Asian Football Confederation.

Italy also finished in fourth place for second consecutive FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Iranian DM’s Strong Reaction to Saudi Arabia’s War Rhetoric

“If the Saudis do anything ignorant, we will leave no area untouched except [holiest Islamic cities] Mecca and Medina,” Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehqan told the Lebanese TV channel Al Manar on Sunday.

“They think they can do something because they have an air force,” he added.

His remarks came in reaction to Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who said on Tuesday any contest for influence between Tehran and Riyadh must take place “inside Iran, not in Saudi Arabia”.

“We know that we are a main goal for the Iranian regime,” he said. “We will not wait until the battle becomes in Saudi Arabia but we will work to have the battle in Iran rather than in Saudi Arabia.”

Earlier on Sunday, Iran’s chief Armed Forces spokesman also dismissed bin Salman’s remarks against the Islamic Republic, stressing that Riyadh is implementing the hostile policies of the US and the Israeli regime in the region.

“There is nothing new with false claims made by some Saudi officials against Iran and independent countries in the region. Unfortunately, the Saudi regime carries out hostile measures against some Muslim countries in the region on behalf of the US and the Zionists,” Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said.

Jazayeri further added that Saudi Arabia’s destructive moves in Yemen and the shedding of the blood of its people as well as its role in the Manama regime’s crackdown against Bahrainis, and massive acts of terror in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan all point to the fact that the Zionists are interested in the continuation of regional conflicts, Press TV reported.

He emphasized that the Islamic Republic has put necessary steps on its agenda to counter such measures, including any terrorist move by Saudi Arabia, the US and the Zionists.

Independent centrist Macron has won by a wide margin, according to French state television estimates, as counting continues through the night.

Macron, 39, a former economy minister who ran as a “neither left nor right” independent promising to shake up the French political system, took 65.1% to Le Pen’s 34.9%, according to initial projections from early counts, The Guardian reported.

“A new chapter in our long history has opened this evening,” Macron said in a statement. “I would like it to be one of hope and of confidence rediscovered.”

Macron, who has never held elected office and was unknown until three years ago, is France’s youngest president. He will next Sunday take over a country under a state of emergency, still facing a major terrorism threat and struggling with a stagnant economy after decades of mass unemployment.

Conservative Presidential Hopefuls Criticise Rouhani’s Foreign Policies

In their second live debate ahead of the presidential elections, two of the six candidates contesting in the May 19 race, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, blamed President Hassan Rouhani’s administration for its alleged lacklustre performance in terms of protecting the rights of Iranians in the process of implementing the nuclear deal – also known as the Joint comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – and in the country’s foreign policy.

According to a report by IFP, both conservative candidates, however, said they will respect the JCPOA and remain committed to it if elected as president.

Addressing the debate on Friday, Raisi, who is the current custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH) – the Eighth Shiite Imam – located in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, said he has sufficient information about the JCPOA, though not as much as Iranian diplomats.

He also expressed his gratitude towards the Iranian diplomats and nuclear negotiators for their incessant efforts during the course of the nuclear talks with the six world powers and in the process of implementing the nuclear deal.

During his presidential campaign in 2013, Rouhani promised that the country’s centrifuges will turn and so will the wheels of people’s livelihoods. Raisi referred to the promise and questioned whether the goal has been achieved or not.

Addressing Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia, he said, “Mr. Tayyebnia, what was supposed to happen by implementing the JCPOA?”

Raisi noted that Rouhani said not just the country’s centrifuges, but the wheels of domestic production should spin, adding, this is while Iran has currently sunk into recession.

He quoted Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying that the US neither lived up to the text of the JCPOA nor to its spirit, adding the West’s banking sanctions on Iran are still in place.

Following the going into effect of the JCPOA, only a not so important middle-sized bank in Turkey said that Iran has opened a number of LCs [lines of credit], Raisi added.

He said whenever foreign currency is transferred to the country through legal banking channels, one can say the banking sanctions are removed.

Addressing the same debate, Qalibaf, the Mayor of Tehran, asked the Rouhani administration what pragmatic outcomes the implementation of the JCPOA has had for the Iranian people.

As witnessed and acknowledged by Iranians, he noted, the country has achieved no economic breakthrough by implementing the nuclear deal.

Qalibaf said the JCPOA has turned into a gateway for European exports to the country, and this has just been in the interest of affluent people in Iran who constitute only four percent of the country’s population.

“Huge Investment Needed in Iran’s Mines Sector”

Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mehdi Karbasian says investment in the mining sector needs massive finances which cannot be provided through domestic resources or the private sector.

In a Farsi interview with Khabar Online, he touched upon the mines sector’s share of the national budget for the current Iranian year (beginning March 21, 2017).

“Several decisions have been made in the mines sector, but given the guidelines by the Leader [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] regarding the [development of a] resilient economy and not selling raw materials, I expected the Parliament to have paid more attention to the issue. We expected the parliament to lend its support to the Mines Insurance Fund,” said the official.

However, he said, in one or two cases the mines sector has, fortunately, been mentioned in the national spending package.

On the situation of the mines sector in the year ahead, he said, “Given the emphasis put on having a resilient economy, I hope the bottlenecks and problems in the mines sector will be tackled; but in the mines and mineral industries sector, the biggest challenge is absorbing financial resources.”

“Our prediction is that we will take in $50bn, so that we will be able to take a giant leap in the mines and minerals industries sector,” he said.

“In this regard, foreign policy officials, who did invaluable work in the JCPOA domain, will pursue international engagement with a vengeance, so that we will be able to absorb $50bn in finances,” said the official.

 

He said attention should be paid to absorbing foreign investment as domestic resources are limited.

Karbasian noted that most banks do not have enough resources as institutions in different sectors are lining up to receive loans.

“On the other hand, arrears to banks amount to hundreds of billions of rials. Banks do not have sufficient capital and need to inflate their assets.”

He said astronomical amounts of funds are required in the mines and mineral industries sector, and added the finances cannot be provided from domestic resources or the private sector.

“The National Development Fund is not able to make such a huge investment, either,” he added.

“So, one of the most important ways of absorbing funds is to take in foreign resources. Fortunately, the government has adopted good measures in this respect.”

He expressed hope that good news will be announced this year regarding the discovery of new mineral resources, and added he is confident that efforts will be made to pursue the projects already underway to create more jobs.

A group of youth calling themselves “The Naughty Ones” have launched a move to create a positive impact on people’s lives by drawing on the capabilities and communications among people themselves. They intend to do exciting things. The Naughty Ones motivate people to fight their diseases. The group members are in close contact with doctors and consult with professional physicians and psychologists. They try to make children understand that it is possible to fight the most serious diseases and finally win. In their latest move, the group members made Benyamin’s dream come true.

Eleven-year-old Benyamin who lives in northern Iran kept traveling to the capital, Tehran, as he was under treatment for a serious disease. He was finally hospitalized in Tehran. He was going to undergo a marrow transplant operation within a few days.

According to a Farsi report by Mehr, while in hospital, The Naughty Ones found out that Benyamin loved the TV series “Passion for Flight.” The show depicts the life of top Iranian general and pilot Abbas Babaei, who put his life on the line to fight Iraqi forces during the Iraq-Iran war and was martyred in 1987. Famous Iranian actor Shahab Hosseini plays Babaei in the TV series. Benyamin loved Hosseini very much and had memorized most of the dialogues of the movie.
The group put together a scenario to make Benyamin’s dream come true in order to give him hope to overcome his disease. The Naughty Ones members wrote a letter the country’s Air Force and explained everything. After a short time, the arrangements were made for Benyamin to visit an airbase.

They left the hospital in a car. Then they arrived at their destination where group members were waiting for them. They gave Benyamin pilot uniform to put on. Then, much to Benyamin’s surprise, several army vehicles arrived and asked him to go with them. The boy, though shocked, did not hesitate to get in.

When they arrived at the airbase, several military top brass warmly welcomed and saluted Benyamin.

“We are very glad to see you visit our airbase, Captain. We hope you’ll enjoy your visit,” said one of the colonels.

Benyamin was staring in disbelief while having a smile on his lips.

After a short time, a man in a suit approached Benyamin, shook hands with him and put a wreath around his neck.

Benyamin then got excited and hugged Babaei’s son.

Then they moved and approached the hangars of MiG-29 fighter jets. A military march was played to pay tribute to captain Benyamin. He shook hands with several pilots, who briefed Benyamin on the features of MiG-29 jet fighters. The captain listened to the pilots carefully and enthusiastically.

Moreover, it is not possible to fly on a private plane over Tehran because of security issues. So, they took Benyamin to the sky on a training aircraft. He was in the sky for ten minutes. After landing, he was so excited. He rushed to his mother and told her about his experience of flying.

Several days after his wonderful experience, Benyamin said, “I’m sure my surgery will be successful.”

Benyamin’s mother also said the whole scenario had had a positive impact on Benyamin and boosted his morale.

Turkey Dismisses 107 More Judges, Prosecutors

The decision for the expulsion of the judges and prosecutors was made at the HSYK general assembly on Friday.

Deputy Chairman of the HSYK, Mehmet Yılmaz, told Turkish media that with this last dismissals, the lists they were working on came to a complete.

“This one is the last one. The lists we have been working on came to complete. We have no one left to dismiss. If we receive more complaints in future, we will start working on them,” Yılmaz said, as reported by Turkey Purge.

Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ announced in a statement on Nov. 10 that the HSYK had expelled 3,456 judges and prosecutors over Gülen links since the coup attempt.

Afghan Chief Executive Appreciate’s Iran’s Support for Refugees

In a meeting in Kabul on Sunday, Abdullah and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif exchanged views about a range of issues, including bilateral relations and the situation of Afghan refugees in Iran.

Zarif said about three million Afghan people live in Iran legally or illegally, adding that the country has provided good facilities for the refugees.

Abdullah, for his part, thanked the Islamic Republic for providing education facilities to the displaced Afghan students in Iran.

The Iranian top diplomat held separate talks with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and national security adviser Mohammad Hanif Atmar on various topics, including ways to boost relations between Tehran and Kabul in all fields.

Zarif’s trip to Afghanistan comes a few days after his visit to the other eastern neighbor, Pakistan.

Iranian officials have always referred to security as a common need for Iran and its neighbors.

Tehran has also voiced its commitment to finding a lasting solution to the problems of Afghan refugees.

Iran Not to Abide by Documents like UNESCO 2030: Leader

Speaking in a Sunday meeting with a group of teachers, education specialists and university students, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Islamic Republic of Iran will not surrender to UNESCO’s Global Education 2030 Agenda.

“The UNESCO 2030 education agenda and the like are not issues that the Islamic Republic of Iran could surrender and submit to,” the Leader noted, according to his English website.

Ayatollah Khamenei slammed the superpowers’ dominance over the United Nations by saying, “Why should a so-called ‘International’ community – which is definitely infiltrated by the superpowers – have the right to make decisions for the nations of the world with various cultures?”

The Leader asserted that Iran will not abide by such documents and added, “This is wrong per se. That we sign an agenda and begin to carry it out secretly is wrong. It is not permitted at all. I have already declared it.”

The Leader further regretted that Iran’s Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution has neglected to supervise the signing of the document, and added, “I also complain to the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. They should have taken care of it and prevent it from getting to where it is now, so that I would not have to take action and prevent it. It is the Islamic Republic here!”
