Italian Foreign Minister to Visit Iran: Official

In a Sunday meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Amendola announced that his country’s foreign minister is going to travel to Iran.

He also expressed his pleasure of being in Iran, and noted that Italian companies and investors are ready to work with the Islamic Republic.

Zarif, for his part, referred to the economic projects underway in Iran, and said there is a good potential for the development of activities of Italian firms in Iran.

The two sides also exchanged views on the implementation of the JCPOA, regional issues, in particular Syria and the Astana talks, and the fight against terrorism, especially ISIS.

Iran Keen to Work with South Africa in Fight against Terror

In a Sunday meeting with South Africa’s Minister of State Security David Mahlobo in Tehran, FM Zarif said there are suitable grounds in the political, economic and security fields for cooperation between Tehran and Pretoria.

He further noted that the two states can boost their collaborations in all fields, especially in banking and economic relations.

Zairf also added that the two sides could work together in fight against terrorism and extremism.

In turn, the South African Minister of State Security said his country is interested in cooperating with the Islamic Republic of Iran in a number of different ways in the fields of economy, technology, energy, banking, security, and the fight against terrorist groups.

Iran Can Lead Regional States in Ending Mideast Crises: Bosnia

“The Islamic Republic of Iran can serve as the leader of regional countries in resolving regional problems, helping settle these woes and crises,” Softić said in a Sunday meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is keen to promote its cooperation with Iran and increase the number of delegations the two sides exchange,” he noted.

The Bosnian deputy speaker added that his country welcomes the promotion of Tehran-Sarajevo cooperation in attracting and exchanging tourists and easing visa restrictions.

Softić thanked Iran’s hospitality, and said his participation in Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s inauguration ceremony was based on a decision by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He also congratulated Iran on its success in the implementation of its nuclear deal with world powers, also known as JCPOA.

Zarif, for his part, said Bosnia and Herzegovina and its people have a special position among Iranian people.

He also called for the enhancement of Iran-Bosnia mutual cooperation in economic and cultural fields, fight against extremism, and facilitation of visa issuance to increase the number of tourists and businessmen visiting the two states.

Also in response to Softić’s invitation for him to visit the Balkan state, Zarif expressed the hope that he would make the visit in future.

In a Sunday meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran, García-Escudero expressed pleasure with being in Iran and attending President Hassan Rouhani’s inauguration.

He highlighted the age-old relations between Iran and Spain, and voiced Madrid’s interest in expanding cooperation with the Islamic Republic in various fields.

The Spanish senate president pointed to the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, and said the JCPOA has provided very good opportunities for increasing trade and commercial exchanges and investment.

Zarif, in turn, bid García-Escudero welcome, and hailed the existing grounds for Iran-Spain cooperation and dialogue in various fields.

He particularly pointed to cultural and artistic relations, and stressed that cooperation in such fields can help reinforce bilateral ties.

The Iranian FM further referred to the cheap price of energy, the geographical location, the efficient human resources, and peace and stability as his country’s most important features, and said such factors have created the appropriate grounds for foreign firms’ investment.

The two sides also underlined the need for promotion of economic cooperation and removing barriers to the development of such collaborations.

Iran, Germany Discuss Cooperation on Regional Stability

During the Sunday meeting, the German minister said his country is committed to peace and stability, and interested in working with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers (JCPOA) is important to Germany, Roth noted, praising the efforts made by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to open the country’s doors to the world.

“Berlin will continue its high-level contacts with Tehran,” he vowed.

Zarif, for his part, expressed Iran’s pleasure with Germany’s commitment to dialogue and cooperation, and stressed that Berlin can play an important role in the progress of many issues.

Elsewhere in the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on regional issues and the need for cooperation in regional stability.

He said the Iranian government has taken great steps to improve nation’s health, adding that the level of education and health in Iran is better than many other countries.

He warned of plots by foreign powers pursuing their self-interests in regional issues, saying they are creating chaos and instability in the Middle East.

Rouhani won re-election in a landslide victory in May after securing 57 percent of the votes and defeating his main contender Ebrahim Raisi, the current custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH).

During the ceremony, Ayatollah Khamenei gave his official approval for the president-elect by giving him a decree assigning him his duties.

Under Iran’s election law, the president-elect is required to gain the Leader’s official approval before being sworn in before the Parliament. Through this process, called Tanfiz (endorsement), the Leader approves the outcome of the presidential election.

Rouhani will have two weeks to present his cabinet to the Parliament for a vote of confidence.

Iran, Turkmenistan Call for Joint Fight against Terror

During the Saturday meeting, the Turkmen foreign minister said his country has good cooperation with Iran in different fields, especially political, economic and cultural arenas, and is interested in boosting its cooperation with Thran.

Meredov said Ashgabat will continue its consultations with Tehran on drawing up the legal regime of the Caspian Sea.

The Iranian foreign minister, in turn, described mutual relations as strong and added more potential exists for further promotion of cooperation.

The two top diplomats further underlined the necessity of enhancing relations on all fronts.

They also cautioned against the rising threat posed by terrorist and extremist groups to all regional countries, and underlined the need to jointly fight terror groups.

Regional issues were also on the agenda of the talks.

US Threat Opportunity for Iran, Venezuela to Boost Ties

In a Saturday meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Menéndez Prieto expressed gratitude to Iran for supporting his country in the face of foreign pressure.

He referred to Washington’s threats and pressure against his country, and appreciated Tehran’s backing for Caracas.

The official said Iran offers considerable support to Venezuela in the face of unilateral foreign pressure and sanctions, adding his country would like to draw on Iran’s experience in tackling sanctions.

He said Iran and Venezuela should use US threats and pressure as an opportunity to further boost mutual relations. The official underlined that Venezuela will always stand by Iran.

He also said he was pleased to have attended the swearing-in ceremony of President Hassan Rouhani.

Zarif, in turn, said Tehran has always supported the demands of the Venezuelan government and people, expressing the hope that Caracas would be able to restore stability and tranquility to the country through prudence.

Iran’s top diplomat said Tehran has categorically condemned Washington’s new sanctions against Venezuela.

“The Americans think sanctions are an asset they can use, and hence, they recently slapped sanctions against Iran and Russia. They have been imposing sanctions on us for 35 years now. In fact, some of the progress we have made in different economic and technological areas has been due to these very sanctions and our people’s resistance against them,” said Zarif.

The Iranian foreign minister noted that the most important reason why Iran has managed to counter sanctions has been reliance on domestic potential and people’s potentialities.

“The people are the driving force behind economic progress and development,” said Zarif.

“With reliance on people, you can hold talks with the world from a position of power,” he added.

The Iranian foreign minister welcomed promotion of mutual cooperation in the oil sector while saying Iran is ready to share with Venezuela its experience in tackling sanctions.

“Also within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a member of the movement’s Troika, is ready to work with Venezuela, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the movement, to help it counter the illegal sanctions,” Zarif said.

“We have always stood by the Venezuelan government and people, and will continue to do so. We hope the Venezuelan government’s success in establishing the Constituent Assembly will set the stage to prompt the opposition to come to the negotiating table and to return stability and tranquility to the country,” Zarif concluded.

Former Dutch PM Meets FM Zarif in Tehran

During the Saturday meeting, the Dutch official said he was pleased to be in Tehran to attend President Hassan Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony.

He noted that Iran and the Netherlands can forge closer cooperation in different areas, including agriculture, water management, and other economic areas.

He described the Iran nuclear deal as a progressive and important move toward closer cooperation.

Zarif, for his part, underlined the importance of boosting cooperation in different political and economic areas, particularly the banking domain.

Since Thursday, aircraft carrying delegations have been touching down in Tehran’s Imam Khomeini and Mehrabad International Airports.

In May, Rouhani won re-election in a landslide victory after securing 57 percent of the votes and defeating his main contender Ebrahim Raeisi, the current custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH).

The swearing-in ceremony is slated to be held (at Majlis Parliament) on Saturday.

On Thursday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei formally endorsed Rouhani as president.

Representatives from at least 100 countries are slated to partake in the ceremony.

By Saturday morning, officials from as many countries had reached Tehran for the ceremony, including: the European Union’s top diplomat Federica Mogherini; Britain’s Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt; Deputy Danish Foreign Minister Jonas Bering Liisberg; Deputy Italian Foreign Minister Vincenzo Amendola; Deputy Austrian Parliament Speaker Karlheinz Kopf; and the Netherlands’ former prime minister Wim Kok.

IRNA reported that Mogherini had held separate meetings with President Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday.

Most lately, Madagascar’s Parliament Speaker Jean Max Rakotomamonjy, his Cambodian counterpart Nguon Nhel, Lesotho’s King Letsie III, First Ghanaian Deputy President Alhaji Bawumia, Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, his Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon, and Chairman of the Britain-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group Richard Bacon have reached Tehran.

Also among the dignitaries are the President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea, Kim Yong-nam, and other North Korean political figures. The Islamic Republic recently designated a new building accommodating North Korea’s diplomatic mission.

Ebrahim Rahimpour, an Iranian deputy foreign minister, attended the ceremony, where he stressed the importance of expanding bilateral ties between the two sides.

He hailed Pyongyang’s support for Tehran during the1980s war imposed by the former Iraqi regime on Iran, with the two sides agreeing to ratchet up bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields.

The other notables to have so far arrived for the inaugural ceremony include are the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, Pope Francis’ Nuncio to Iraq and Jordan Alberto Ortega, and Secretariat of the UN Conference on Trade and Development’s Secretary General Mukhisa Kituyi.

Some other dignitaries are from Ireland, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Portugal, Malaysia, Ugandan, Guyana, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Swaziland, and Namibia.
