Iran Repatriates Body of Martyr Hojaji from Syria

An airplane carrying the body of Martyr Mohsen Hojaji landed at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport at 20:30 on Monday night.

A number of high-ranking Iranian officials and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commanders attended the airport and paid tribute to the brave martyr.

The statement also called on the Iranian people from all walks of life to massively participate in the ceremony.

Earlier, the funeral of Martyr Hojaji had been slated to be held in Tehran on September 2 but the event was postponed due to some unannounced reasons.

The Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement on August 31 received the body of Martyr Hojaji from Daesh based on a ceasefire deal between the two sides.

The transfer of Lebanon’s captured soldiers and two martyrs, as well as the body of Martyr Hojaji, took place after the buses carrying Daesh militants and their families arrived in the ancient city of Palmyra in Homs Province, according to media reports.

Hojaji, a holy shrine defender, was taken hostage by the Daesh Takfiri group near the Iraqi border on August 7 and was beheaded two days later.

The shrine of Sayyida Zeinab, a sister of Imam Hossein (AS), the third Shiite Imam, is located in Damascus, Syria. Iranian military advisers have played a decisive role in the protection of the holy shrine against terrorist attacks.

Iran Starts Implementation of New Law to Counter US Aggression

In a letter to the Foreign Ministry, Rouhani urged the foreign ministry to implement the new law approved by the Iranian lawmakers.

The law entitled “Counteracting the US human rights violations and adventurous and terrorist moves in the region” was approved following Washington’s provocative regional acts.

The general outlines of the motion were passed with 240 votes in favour and one abstention in early August.

The 27-article draft was endorsed after it was brought forward in Parliament by the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in July.

The move came after the US House of Representatives and then the Senate passed a sweeping package of bills on sanctions against Iran, Russia, and North Korea.

The US legislation would impose mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, held a telephone conversation on Monday to discuss the latest developments pertaining to mutual relations and regional issues.

“[Improving] regional security and safeguarding Iraq’s territorial integrity and national unity are very important and vital for the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Rouhani said, adding that coordination and cooperation among regional countries could play a prominent role in this regard.

Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region kicked off an independence referendum on Monday in the face of strong objections from the central government in Baghdad and urgent calls from the international community to scrap the vote.

Iranian, Russian Presidents Reiterate Support for Iraq's IntegrityThe voting stations are dotted across the three provinces of Erbil, Sulaimaniyah and Dohuk that form the Iraqi Kurdistan Region as well as in the disputed bordering zones such as the oil-rich province of Kirkuk.

Initial results are expected to be announced 24 hours after the vote. The non-binding vote on the secession of the semi-autonomous region has irked the central government.

The Iranian president held separate phone calls with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Sunday to discuss the independence vote.

Elsewhere in his conversation with the Russian president, Rouhani welcomed the development of Tehran-Moscow relations in all fields.

He added that presidents of Iran, Russia and the Republic of Azerbaijan would hold a meeting in Tehran in the near future to discuss issues of common interest.

“We attach significance to trilateral relations among Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan,” the Iranian chief executive pointed out.

Rouhani also stated that Iran and Russia had a common stance on the crisis in Syria, adding, “[Protecting] the territorial integrity [of countries] in the region and [preventing] any change to borders are very important to the Islamic Republic of Iran and we are completely ready to continue cooperation for [holding] the next round of [Syria peace] talks in Astana.”

Representatives from the Syrian government and foreign-sponsored armed opposition held the sixth round of peace talks in the Kazakh capital of Astana in September in a bid to resolve the Syrian conflict.

The negotiations were supervised by Iran, Russia and Turkey as the mediators of the talks.

Iranian, Russian Presidents Reiterate Support for Iraq's Integrity

Russia and Iran are the main international backers of the Syrian government in its battle against foreign-backed terrorists.

At Damascus’ request, Iran has been providing military advisory support to the Syrian army in its counterterrorism operations.

Russia has been also carrying out an aerial campaign in Syria in coordination with Damascus since September 2015 to further boost the Syrian military’s anti-terror fight.

Russia backs Iraq’s territorial integrity: Putin

The Russian president, for his part, reiterated his country’s support for the central government in Baghdad and Iraq’s territorial integrity, IRNA reported.

Putin also indicated Moscow’s resolve to boost all-out relations with Iran, saying that the speedy implementation of development projects currently underway between the two countries would help promote ties.

As expected, the Iraqi Kurdistan’s independence referendum held on Monday was one of the most important news covered by Iranian newspapers today. While the issue was covered by many newspapers on the front page, some papers preferred to release features on the consequences of Iraq’s ‘disintegration’ for the country and the Middle East, and some tried to offer solutions to be adopted by Iran on future of Kurdistan region. Some newspapers also highlighted the international opposition to the plebiscite in their headlines, and referred to the phone conversations between presidents of Iran, Turkey, and Russia on the need for maintaining Iraq’s territorial integrity and borders.

Reactions to Trump’s anti-Iran remarks and measures, and the reaction by the Iranian government to the US president also remained a top story today. Iran May Hold Its FIFA World Cup Training Camp in Chechnya

The Chechnya official Magomed Matsuev says the Iranian national football team may choose to stay in the city of Grozny, the capital of Muslim Republic of Chechnya, before the 2018 World Cup.

According to a Farsi report by the Tasnim News Agency, citing a Russian sports website, he went on to say, “I had a meeting with the Iranian representatives and spoke with them. They have visited Grozny and reserved this complex. Of course, this is not the final decision. If the Iranian national football team chooses another camp, another team will come to the city of Grozny and the Akhmat-Arena.”

The 2018 World Cup will host 32 teams, including the Iranian national football team, at 12 stadiums in 11 cities of the Russian Federation from June 14 to July 15, 2018.

Iran Inks Deal to Boost Date Exports via Oman

The Joint Iran-Oman Chamber of Commerce has signed an agreement with the National Iranian Date Association and chambers of commerce of eight date-growing Iranian provinces in a bid to boost the Islamic Republic’s date exports.

According to a Farsi report by the Iranian Agriculture News Agency (IANA), under the deal, the two sides have undertaken to lay the groundwork for expanding Iran’s date exports to world markets such as the United States, China and Latin American countries through Oman’s SOHAR Port and Free Zone.

Among the key objectives of the deal is to pave the way for Iranian date exporters to cooperate with Omani companies, use Oman’s infrastructure, loans and customs facilities as well as its SOHAR region together with the advantages of preferential customs agreements between Oman and other countries.

Speaking on the sidelines of the conclusion of the deal, Deputy Chairman of the Joint Iran-Oman Chamber of Commerce Pedram Soltani hailed the initiative, saying similar contracts can be signed among other relevant bodies.

Mohsen Rashid Farrokhi, the chairman of the chamber, also said Oman is a suitable replacement for the Persian Gulf littoral states as it is very close to Iran in terms of cultural bonds and cooperation-wise.

He said Iran currently exports 20 percent of its date crop, and has what it takes to increase it to 30%.

The exhibition was inaugurated on Sunday in a ceremony attended by Iran’s First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri and Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh.

Over 1,000 Firms Attending IranPlast Int’l ExhibitionWith the main theme of “promoting the business environment of Iran’s petrochemical and plastic industries”, the exhibition has managed to attract 600 foreign and 534 Iranian companies, which shows a 39-percent growth compared with previous editions.

Companies from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, India, Serbia, Italy, South Korea, Austria, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Spain, Britain, Thailand, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Turkey, Taiwan, China, Japan and the UAE are participating in the exhibition.

Meanwhile, commercial delegations from Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ukraine, Oman, Georgia and Armenia as well as 230 tradesmen from Azerbaijan, Syria, Turkey, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Nepal, South Korea, Malaysia, China, Ghana, Kenya, Romania and Canada are present in the exhibition.

Among the main goals of the exhibition are promoting plastic industry, attracting foreign investments, expanding export of goods, facilitating plastic marketing, and exchanging new technologies.

The exhibition will be underway until September 27.

IranPlast is one of the largest and most important exhibitions in Iran in the fields of raw materials, machinery and moulds, auxiliaries and services for plastics, and rubber industries. It is also one of the most important ones in the Middle East and Asia.

The first five editions of IranPlast were organized annually, but from the 6th round, it became a biennial exhibition in order to enhance its quality, structure and organization.

Tehran, Jakarta Discuss Promotion of Reciprocal Ties

The seventh meeting of Iran-Indonesia joint political-consultative committee was held in Tehran on Monday.

Present at the event were deputy ministers from both countries who discussed a whole range of bilateral and international issues and highlighted the need to upgrade Tehran-Jakarta political and economic relations.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour delivered the opening speech at the meeting. He said Iran attaches great importance to promotion of cooperation with Southeast Asian countries, especially Indonesia as a friendly and Muslim nation, which enjoys a special status in the Muslim world. He said Iran is fully prepared to enhance its relations with Indonesia on all fronts.

During the meeting, Indonesia’s Director General for Asia-Pacific Affairs Desra Percaya, who was heading the Indonesian delegation, welcomed proposals put forward by the Iranian side, and said his country would like to take over a project to develop two oil fields in Iran. He also stressed the need to forge closer cooperation between the two sides.

It is noteworthy that the sixth meeting of the political-consultative committee of the two countries had been held in Jakarta last year.

 

Iran’s Deputy FM, Indonesian Diplomat Hold Talks

Later on Monday, Percaya also met Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi. During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the need to boost mutual economic and trade relations in addition to the good political ties the two countries maintain.

Sarmadi touched upon the common ground as well as the numerous areas of cooperation between the two sides and expressed satisfaction over the growing trend of Tehran-Jakarta ties over the past 3 years.

He said the volume of bilateral trade is not proportionate to the numerous potentialities that exist for cooperation between the two sides, and added the two countries should tap into all their potential in order to upgrade the level of mutual trade and commercial cooperation and expand reciprocal ties in all areas.

Sarmadi referred to the challenges which exist in the Muslim world, the Middle East and East Asia, and underscored the necessity of interaction and consultation between, and joint action by the two great Muslim countries in order to help establish peace and tranquillity in the above-mentioned regions.

Percaya, in turn, thanked Iran for its presence in the Indian Ocean Rim Association during the time when Indonesia held its presidency, and expressed gratitude to Iran for supporting Indonesia’s candidacy for membership in international circles, especially the country’s non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council.

Director of Composite Materials and Technology Centrr, Mahmoud Mehrdad Shokrieh, has been ranked among word’s top 100 innovators by the prestigious ISI Essential Science Indicators affiliated with Thompson-Reuters, a Farsi report by ANA said.

Mehrdadd Shokrieh is a faculty member at Iran’s University of Science and Technology in Mechanical Engineering. He has been teaching as a full professor in the university since 2016. Shokreieh was also chosen as the top Iranian researcher in Mechanical Engineering in 2015. Among his other honours, one can also refer to the title of the top Iranian Technology man he gained in 2015. Shokrieh was also announced as ‘prominent Iranian professor’ by the Mechanical Engineers’ Association back in 2014.

ISE-ESI releases regular lists of top innovators across the world in each scientific field every two months. It draws on the latest developments in the scientific achievements at the international level. Some scientists are ranked simultaneously as top innovators in more than one list. At least 22 lists are published each time.

To rank a scientist as top innovator, the institute draws on their studies and theses over the past ten years.
