Iran’s Revolution Anniversary Rallies Clear Message to US: Larijani

Ali Larijani

Speaking in a pre-session speech on the parliament floor on Monday, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani thanked Iranians for their huge turnout in nationwide rallies on February 11, marking the anniversary of the triumph of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.

The speaker referred to the mass demonstrations as a clear message to the US, adding, “The Americans must have comprehended the meaning of people’s huge turnout.”

“The [Iranian] nation gave a clear message in response to the Americans’ behaviour, approach and nonsense words, and showed that they will not allow anybody to interfere in Iran’s affairs,” he noted.

“Even if there are differences and problems, we will settle them through the Iranian nation’s will,” Larijani said, according to a Farsi report by ICANA.

He further said the Iranian nation showed off the “originality” of the Islamic Revolution to mobocrats.

“At a time when mobocrats had been investing, for weeks, in efforts to deal a blow to the Islamic Revolution to discourage people from getting a better understanding of the revolution, our civilized and deep-rooted nation showed off the originality of the revolution to them,” said the top parliamentarian.

The speaker said the huge turnout of people in the rallies amounts to a great asset to safeguard national security and spur the country’s development.

“I kindly request all political figures, parties and media outlets not to cash in on this national achievement to fuel their political wrangling and tug of war. The unity of all was the key feature of that move,” the speaker said.

He also called on officials to work toward solving the country’s economic problems.

Iran Energy Minister Welcomes IRGC’s Cooperation in Cloud Seeding

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with governors of Iranian provinces, he told journalists that the cloud seeding plan has been on the agenda since 20 years ago, adding that the needed equipment must be refurbished.

The energy ministry is thus trying to upgrade the seeding equipment, he noted, according to a Farsi report by the Fars News Agency.

Earlier, Commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force Amir Ali Hajizadeh had announced that the IRGC is ready to cooperate in the project to seed clouds.

The remarks came after frequent droughts and low rainfall in Iran over the past autumn forced the administration to opt for cloud seeding in the hope of squeezing more precipitation out of the atmosphere.

Cloud seeding originated in the US in the 1940s. The method generally used in the winter involves ground-based generators set at high elevations that are literally fired up to release plumes containing silver iodide crystals into storm clouds. When water vapor or droplets attach to the silver iodide crystal, latent heat is also released, and it increases cloud size and the duration of storms.

Global warming has forced many arid and semi-arid areas around the world, including Iran, to suffer from drought.

Elsewhere in his Monday remarks, the energy minister said “we are ready to develop renewable energy and purchase electricity from the private sector.”

“In addition to supplying domestic needs, we are going to export electricity to the neighbouring countries, including Afghanistan, through connected networks, by purchasing power based on the current contracts.”

Ardakanian further referred to the issue of water as an area in which Iran can develop its relations and cooperation with its neighbours, especially Afghanistan and Turkey.

“At the moment, we are exchanging electricity with Pakistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iraq. We are also planning to connect [Iran’s power network] to Europe’s electricity grid. Such a move would create a large capacity for the country’s electricity grid,” he added.

Japan to Help Cut Air Pollution in Smog-Choked Tehran

An official contract was signed on February 12, 2018, between Iran and Japan on the procurement of the equipment required to measure and analyze air pollutants in Tehran.

The four-year agreement was clinched in Tehran in a ceremony attended by Deputy Mayor of Tehran Pourseyed Aghaei and Japan’s Ambassador to Iran.

“The contract was inked to decrease air pollution in Tehran,” said the Iranian official.

He said the contractors are the Tehran Air Quality Control Company affiliated with the Tehran Municipality, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

This comes as cooperation between Iran and JICA goes back to 1996 when Iran’s first plan to fight air pollution was underway. It led to an improvement in the quality of gasoline, so much so that lead and CO have not existed in Tehran’s air any longer.

The state organization is also cooperating with Iran in a project to revive Lake Urmia in northwestern Iran. Under its international obligations, the organization is now going to work with Tehran on reducing air pollution in the metropolis. The project will be carried out in four years’ time.

Iranian Diplomat, Houthi Spokesman Discuss Yemen Crisis in Tehran

Abdulsalam and his accompanying delegation exchanged views with the senior Iranian diplomat on Monday afternoon.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the political ways to resolve the Yemen crisis in order to help Yemenis by ending the brutal war on the Arab country.

On Saturday, the Yemeni spokesman also met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and briefed him on the current situation in Yemen, particularly the country’s dire humanitarian conditions.

In that meeting, Zarif pointed to Iran’s four-point plan to resolve the crisis in Yemen, and underlined the need for immediate cessation of war and bombardment in the Arab country.

He also pointed to the humanitarian disaster in Yemen caused by the continued unfair airstrikes of the Saudi-led coalition against Yemeni people, and highlighted the need for immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid to the Yemenis by the international community.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a deadly campaign against Yemen from the air, land, and sea since March 2015 in an attempt to reinstate former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh, and to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement. Since nearly three years ago, the Houthis have been running state affairs and defending Yemeni people against the Saudi aggression.

The UN has described the situation in Yemen as the “world’s worst humanitarian crisis.”

The war, which has so far killed at least 13,600 people, has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying many schools and factories.

Largest Flag of Iran Hoisted in Tehran

In a Sunday ceremony attended by Tehran mayor as well as a number of Iranian lawmakers and top civilian and military officials, the flag was hoisted on the western part of the Sacred Defence Garden Museum in Abbassabad complex in Tehran.

The flag stands 210 metres above the complex and has been hoisted on a 147-metre flagpole known as “flag tower” erected on the highest hill of Abbasabad complex.

The flag is 42m in length and 24m in width and weighs over 300kg. It is made of polyester fabric. The flag has been designed and made from A to Z by young Iranian engineers.

Symbolizing the national pride of Iranians, Iran’s largest flag tower was established in Abbasabad complex in 2012.

Iran Vows to Play Major Role in Iraq’s Reconstruction

Bahram Qassemi

In a Monday statement, Qassemi underlined the significance of Iraq as a friend and neighbour of Iran, and said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will take part in the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq which is underway in Kuwait.

“Iran welcomes the Kuwait Conference. We maintain that participation of the international community in the reconstruction of Iraq is a necessary move in the right direction. We call for the unconditional and honest participation of the international community in the reconstruction of Iraq,” he added.

The spokesman underlined that Iran has had no hesitation in supporting the nation and government of Iraq as it has always stood by them in fight against terrorism and will continue to do so in the future.

“As in the past, Iran will keep playing its supporting and constructive role in the reconstruction and economic development of Iraq in the post-ISIS era as it has always played the same role in other political and security fields,” Qassemi noted.

The spokesman also noted that the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq is mainly aimed at gathering financial support from different international sources for the reconstruction of the Arab country, particularly its war-torn areas, paving the way for offering lasting solutions to the internal conflicts, modernization of Iraq’s local and national capacities, improving Iraq’s social structure, creating balance between reconstruction projects and national reconciliation efforts and attracting foreign investments.

The three-day conference that kicked off on Monday brings together a number of economically powerful countries, as well as regional and international organizations, and is aimed at raising funds for the reconstruction of Iraq after many years of war and conflict.

The top story in all newspapers today was the Iranian people’s huge turnout in the nationwide February 11 rallies to mark the 39th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Revolution anniversary. The huge turnout was praised by the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a message on Sunday night.

The Syrian air defence’s success in shooting down an Israeli jet fighter also received great coverage. Conservative papers particularly praised the unprecedented move, and said the Israeli regime will no longer feel safe over the Syrian skies.

Several papers also covered the winners of the 36th edition of Fajr Film Festival, which wrapped up in Tehran on Sunday night. “Abu Ghraib Strait”, the film that bagged 6 awards at the closing ceremony, received special attention from conservative papers as it deals with the issue of Sacred Defence (the war imposed by Iraq on Iran in the 1980s).

Bodies of 3 Iranian Sailors to Be Flown to Iran from China

Iranian Consul General in Shanghai Alireza Irvash says the bodies of these brave sailors will be transferred to Tehran aboard Mahan Airline flight No. w5060 tomorrow night.

“All the procedures and measures necessary to transfer the bodies of the sailors have been conducted, and based on the planning and follow-up work done, the transfer of the bodies are final,” he said, according to a Farsi report by IRIB News Agency.

The Sanchi oil tanker carrying 136 thousand tonnes of oil condensates collided with a freight ship belonging to Hong Kong on January 1, 2018.

Upon impact, the oil tanker caught fire and exploded, leaving all 32 sailors, including 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis, missing. Sanchi was ablaze for several days and rescue workers only managed to recover the bodies of three sailors. DNA tests proved that they were all Iranian, and now the bodies are ready to be flown to Iran.

Iran’s Field Hockey Wins Bronze Medal at World Cup

On Sunday, the Iranian outfit thrashed Australia 5-0 in the bronze medal game, which was staged at the multi-purpose Max-Schmeling-Halle arena in the German capital city of Berlin.

Navid Taherirad netted Iran’s opener nearly a quarter into the game; and Reza Norouzzadeh doubled the Persians’ lead in the 19th minute.

Hamid Nooranian took up a favorable opportunity in the 31st minute, and jabbed the Iran field hockey team’s third goal.

Norouzzadeh was on target twice before the final whistle, and completed a stunning hat trick in the span of just 21 minutes.

Later in the day, Austria beat Germany 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out and shattered the hosts’ championship hopes, after both teams were tied 3-3 at full time.

The 2018 Men’s Indoor Hockey World Cup, which was the fifth edition of the tournament, kicked off on February 7, and wrapped up on February 11.

The Iranian squad comprised Behdad Biranvand, Yaghoub Bahrami, Abbas Aruei, Amir Aruei, Hamid Nouraniyan, Alireza Chezani Sharahi, Behnam Fardi, Mohsen Bohlouli, Mohammad Asnaashari, Reza Norouzzadeh, Sasan Hataminejad and Navid Taherirad. The team was led by Esfandiar Safaei as the head couch.

BBC Totally Blind to Nationwide Feb. 11 Rallies in Iran

This is not the first time that the BBC propaganda outlet comes under fire for its biased approach and violation of professional ethics when it comes to covering events related to Iran. The well-established media giant, using the cliché “You’re watching BBC World News/You’re listening to BBC Radio,” shaped a determining chapter in Iran’s history decades ago. A considerable number of Iranian politicians and the masses will not forget that the media outlet’s control room turned into a nerve centre for a military coup in 1953 against the government of former Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, a popular and patriotic figure. The coup came in retaliation for his nationalization of Iran’s oil industry.

Despite such a role played by BBC, Iranians interested in politics traditionally do not miss its programs in order to keep abreast of Britain’s schemes for Iran’s future. Truly and clearly, Iranians today are not comparable to what they were six decades ago, and the general public, thanks to years of struggles to secure their country’s independence, happen to be able to read, even more intelligently than professional politicians, the minds of those running domestic and foreign media, so they will not have to pay, once again, the price of getting caught unawares and forgetting the lessons of the contemporary history of their country.

The Persian-language Fars News Agency has, in a memo, blasted the BBC’s performance when it comes to covering events and developments pertaining to Iran. The full text of the memo follows:

Iranian people turned out in droves in different towns and cities across the nation Sunday for rallies marking the anniversary of the triumph of the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran.

The turnout was so large that different media outlets across the world, even Israeli media, had to cover the event, describing it as hundreds-of-thousands-strong or millions-strong rallies.

Not to mention Saudi and Emirati media, probably the only media outlet which preferred to remain tight-lipped on the huge rallies was the BBC. The British media company has not broadcast any news on the event so far as if February 11 was an ordinary day in Iran like other days.

This comes as the recent unrest in some Iranian cities a few months ago made headlines in the BBC news, so much so that the British company broadcast news on the Iran unrest every minute, sometimes using unconfirmed images.

The BBC’s double standards on Iran developments is reminiscent of the fact that the media outlet is acting against its own motto of neutrality, and rather than covering events as they unfold, it has politicized the developments, and only broadcasts the news which has a place in the media outlet’s jigsaw.
