Pilot Killed after F5 Fighter Jet Crashes in SW Iran

Iran’s Air Force said the fighter jet had a technical failure after a training flight when it was landing in an airbase in Dezful, in Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan on Sunday morning.

One of the pilots was martyred in the incident, but the other one managed to control the jet and make a safe landing beside the runway with minimum damage to the aircraft, the Air Force said.

Back in June, an Iranian Air Force’s F-7 fighter jet crashed in the central province of Isfahan, but its two pilots ejected safely before the aircraft plummeted towards the ground.

In May 2016, a MiG-29 fighter aircraft of Iran’s Air Force had to make an emergency landing at a military airport in the western city of Hamedan, during which one of the pilots was killed and the other suffered vertebral injury.

In July 2016, a Sukhoi Su-24 warplane of Iran’s Air Force crashed near Lake Bakhtegan in the southern province of Fars, but the two pilots on board survived.

Syria Will Definitely Defeat Terrorism, Iran DM Tells Assad

“Not only regional people, but people around the world are indebted to the fight carried out against terrorists in Syria,” Hatami said in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Sunday.

He expressed confidence that the Syrians have the ability to continue their fight against terrorists until achieving a complete victory and defeating terrorism.

The Iranian defense chief reiterated his country’s support for Syria’s unity regardless of threats and pressure from some countries, which are supporting terrorism.

He said Iran stood by the Syrian people and nation since the beginning of war there more than seven years ago and is currently ready to participate in the reconstruction process of the war-stricken country.

“The private sector of the Islamic Republic of Iran has good capabilities and capacities in this regard and can use them in the reconstruction of Syria,” Hatami pointed out.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups wreaking havoc in the country.

Iranian First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri said in June that the Islamic Republic would stand by Syria in the reconstruction process of the war-stricken country.

“As the Iranian government and nation stood by the Syrian government and people in the fight against terrorist groups, they will also stand by the Syrian people now that major parts of Syria are under the control of the country’s government,” Jahangiri said in a meeting with Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil in Tehran.

His comments came after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran was ready for cooperation with other states to help reconstruct the violence-torn Arab country.

A UN spokeswoman said on Friday that United Nations Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura had invited Iran, Russia and Turkey to talks due to be held in Geneva next month on forming Syria’s Constitutional Committee.

“Special Envoy de Mistura continues his consultation on the establishment of a Syrian-led, Syrian-owned and UN facilitated Constitutional Committee within the framework of the Geneva process and in accordance with Security Council Resolution 22-54 2015,” Alessandra Vellucci said at a news conference.

Iran, Russia and Turkey, as guarantor states for peace process in Syria, expressed their firm determination in late July to counter any plot aimed at partitioning the Arab country.

Iran, Syria must outline long-term cooperation plans: Assad

The Syrian president, for his part, said Tehran and Damascus must outline plans to improve long-term cooperation in order to enhance the steadfastness of the Iranian and Syrian nations in the face of the enemies’ plots.

Assad said the US positions on the Iranian nuclear deal, the imposition of sanctions on Russia and attempts to prolong the war in Syria by supporting terrorists affirm the correctness of the policies pursued by the anti-terrorism axis.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, the Iranian defense minister arrived in Damascus earlier on Sunday to discuss a number of important issues, including the latest regional developments, the fight against terrorism, the strengthening of the resistance axis and the study of strategies for expansion of defense and military cooperation.

In a meeting with his Syrian counterpart, General Ali Abdullah Ayyoub, in Damascus, Hatami warned of extra-regional countries’ plots to sow discord in Syria, vowing the Islamic Republic’s full support for the war-ravaged country in a bid to preserve its territorial integrity and improve its stability.

“Iran will spare no effort to maintain Syria’s territorial integrity, because security in the country will help [improve] regional stability,” the Iranian defense minister said.

UAE Jets Target Allied Coalition Forces in Yemen Shores

Military sources in Yemen said the jets targeted a military unit under the command of the Saudi-led coalition which includes Al-Qaeda militants recruited by the coalition to fight against Yemenis in western shores of the impoverished war-torn country.
A number of the Saudi-led coalition forces including a top commander were killed and wounded in the attacks by the UAE fighter jets.

The attacks came as tens of the military unit’s members began to withdraw from their positions in the face of a massive assault by Yemeni forces backed by Ansarullah fighters.
Lack of coordination among the Saudi-led coalition has put Saudi Arabia and the UAE at loggerheads during the war on Yemen.

Back in 2016, a UAE plane crashed in Yemen, and Abu Dhabi blamed Riyadh for the incident. Saudi Arabia, in turn, rejected the accusation and blamed the UAE for targeting its jets in Yemen’s southern areas.

Saudi Arabia and its allies began a deadly war on Yemen back in March 2015, and have so far killed thousands of Yemenis, mostly civilians.

A report by the UN says Yemen is going through a deadly humanitarian crisis due to the war and blockade imposed by the Saudi-led coalition on the nation.

Iran Calls for Opening Joint Shipping Line with Qatar

In a Sunday phone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Rouhani underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been seeking to strengthen its relations with Qatar as a friendly state in the volatile region of the Middle East.

“There are huge capacities for widening the scope of cooperation in political and economic areas between Iran and Qatar,” Rouhani said.

He then underlined the need for paving the way for Iranian and Qatari traders and investors to launch their projects and said strengthening port and cooperation and launching a joint shipping line could contribute to expansion of mutual trade relations between the two countries.

Rouhani also referred to the advanced capabilities of Iranian companies in various areas and said the companies are completely prepared to take a role in construction projects for Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Iran’s president also praised certain states particularly the Europeans, Russia, China and Qatar for their constructive stances towards the Iran nuclear deal after the US’ illegal withdrawal from the nuclear accord and said the stances need to be completed by practical measures.

He also invited the emir of Qatar to attend the Third Round of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue to be held in Tehran later September.

Qatar Will Never Forget Iran’s Support

For his turn, the emir expressed his country’s willingness to strengthen mutual ties with Iran and said Qatar will never forget Iran’s sympathetic stance when it came under “brutal” blockade by some regional Arab states.

He reiterated Qatar’s opposition to any form of violations of the Iran nuclear deal and called for resolving tensions through dialogue.

Iran Foreign Ministry Tasked with Following Up on Wetland Wildfire

The Director General of the Environment Department of Khuzestan Province said President Rouhani has issued a special order and assigned the foreign ministry to seriously address the issue of the wildfire at Hoor Al-Azim on the Iraqi soil.

The president has also requested the IRGC to participate in the containing of the fire on the Iraqi territories, he added.

The fire has been burning since late June in the Iraqi part of the wetland. In its first phase, it lasted for more than 20 days burning over 18,000 hectares of the lagoon on the Iraqi side.

The tragic event has caused many problems for the people of Iran’s southern Khuzestan Province making it difficult for them to breathe. Since late July, Hoor Al-Azim has been on fire again.

Tehran Warns Riyadh of Consequences of Executing Activists

According to New York-based Human Rights Watch, Saudi Arabia’s public prosecutor is seeking the death penalty for five rights activists from Qatif in the kingdom’s Shia-majority Eastern Province.

Iran’s High Council of Human Rights “seriously warns the Saudi rulers about the consequences of these clear cruelties and crimes against the oppressed people in Qatif and other right-seeking and anti-oppression activists,” it said in a statement.

The council, a subdivision of Iran’s Judiciary, also stressed “the necessity for international bodies, especially the UN and the Human Rights Council, to show sensitivity and pursue the issue seriously.”

Saudi Arabia has accused these activists of inciting mass protests in the oil-rich Eastern Province, with human rights groups saying the execution threat is a calculated bid to stifle dissent.

Israa al-Ghomgham, who has documented the protests in Eastern Province since they began in 2011, would be the first woman activist to face the death sentence for rights-related work. She was arrested at her home along with her husband Musa al-Hashem in December 2015.

The Iranian council described reports of the Saudi prosecutor seeking capital punishment for the couple and other activists as “very regretful and distressing given the country’s disastrous record” in the past.

In January 2016, Saudi Arabia executed prominent cleric Nimr al-Nimr, the most vocal critic of the dynasty among Shia Muslims, who had come to be seen as a leader of the community’s younger activists.

In executing Nimr, the kingdom defied an international outcry and warnings by many rights groups and governments, touching off a diplomatic crisis which sent relations with Iran into a downward spiral which continues to this day.

“Saudi Arabia’s policy of cracking down on Muslim thinkers and activists fighting tyranny on terrorism charges is absurd and unacceptable,” the statement by the Iranian rights body said.

“Should terrorists be confronted, current Saudi rulers are the prime suspects, who bear responsibility for destroying the lives and possessions of hundreds of thousands of innocent people in the region,” it said.

“Who has founded, armed and unleashed al-Qaeda, Daesh and similar criminals to massacre innocent people? Who is publicly supporting, politically and financially, perverted and roaming killers such as Mujahedin Khalq Organization?” it added.

The notorious MKO group is responsible for killing thousands of Iranian civilians and several officials since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Senior Saudi officials, including former spy chief Prince Turki al-Faisal, have attended annual meetings held by the terrorist group, raising the stakes in the kingdom’s confrontational ways with the Islamic Republic.

In its statement, Iran’s High Council of Human Rights said the US and major European governments, which arm the kingdom and assist Saudi Arabia’s invasion of Yemen, are complicit in the atrocities and should be held to account.

Iran’s Economy Minister Sacked by Parliament

Karbasian failed to win a vote of confidence during his impeachment session on Sunday and left the ministry.

137 lawmakers voted in favour of Karbasian’s dismissal, while 121 other MPs voted against the plan. Two legislatorsalso abstained from voting.

Karbasian is the second minister impeached by the parliament within the plast few weeks. Before him, Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei was removed from the cabinet on August 8.

Karbasian was chosen as economy minister in the second term of President Hassan Rouhani in office.

Failure to manage the country’s economic affairs, lack of necessary measures in organising the country’s economy, lack of attention to the resistance economy, lack of proper supervision on the flow of operations in the country’s economic exchanges, and his inability to clarify the economic policies of the country were among the reasons for his impeachment.

Non-enforcement of legal assignments in the field of banking activities, failure to implement announced plans at the time of receiving vote of confidence from the parliament, and failure to implement the tax system fairly were the other reasons for his impeachment by the parliament.
