According to the governor, the channel is based on a common understanding that the Iranian and European firms and businessmen are interested in maintaining their trade ties despite the US decision to unilaterally withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

“To this end, the two sides decided to set up a special payment channel to remove any possible obstacles in the way of their transactions. The channel provides Iranian and European exporters with a chance to receive their foreign exchange revenues,” he said.

According to the governor, the two sides underline the need to establish the financial mechanism operational as soon as possible. “The details of the mechanism will be finalized and released in the near future.”

The channel was presented first by Europe during the United Nations General Assembly ministerial meeting in New York in September.

The idea of setting up the channel was raised after US President Donald Trump in May pulled his country out of the JCPOA. He also re-imposed the first series of US sanctions on Iran in August and is set to devise a new wave of economic sanctions aimed at pushing Iran’s oil exports down to zero by November.

Following the ministerial meeting in September in New York, Iran and the remaining signatories of the Iran nuclear deal welcomed an EU initiative to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to facilitate payments related to Iran’s exports (including oil) and imports.

Abouzar Vanaki’s exhibition titled “We Are … We’ll Become” displays human figures undergoing changes from what they are to what they want to become.

The exhibition, recently held in Shirin Gallery in Tehran, put on display 13 sculptures, each of which has a height of 70cm.

The figures are hanging in various positions depicting the process of going through different stages.

Vanaki says the figures resemble human body but they belong to creatures which have transformed themselves. The figures have unusually large hands and feet, strange face or other features distinguishing them from ordinary human beings.

“All these features have been achieved due to their will to become something else. When we decide to become something else, we destroy the solid bases of our being to achieve what we are looking for. The figures in the exhibition are indeed people who have undergone the changes and achieved the new shape they had in mind,” he noted.

Vanaki has made the figures out of resin. He has also coloured them with oil colours giving them the appearance of real creatures. The figures’ bodies are tanned and shrouded in soil. Meanwhile, they are covered in old clothes which seem to be the last ones left for them in the world.

According to the Iranian artist, a visitor who is going through a hard time in his/her life may say how miserable the figures on display in the exhibition are.

“But a visitor who is involved in a project and knows well that he/she should pay a heavy price to achieve his/her goals may view the figures as happy creatures,” Vanaki said.

He then said this is his first exhibition, adding “I began my career as a sculptor about 15 years ago and during these years, I’ve made a number of statues which were put on display in a number of public places in Tehran including Azadi Stadium, Jashnvareh Street, Sa’adabad Palace, among others.”

Vanaki went on to say that “for several reasons, I decided to showcase my statues in a gallery instead of public centres. To me, in galleries, the visitors have enough time and concentration to think about the message of each piece. In our daily lives, we are usually too engaged in our daily problems to concentrate on artistic pieces which we may come across on the streets,” he noted.

Netanyahu along with a delegation, including Yossi Cohen, the director of the Mossad spy agency, and National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat, arrived in Oman’s capital, Muscat, on Thursday night and flew back to the occupied Palestinian territories later on Friday, making it the first such meeting in over 20 years.

A joint statement by Netanyahu and Oman’s ruler Sultan Qaboos said the two sides “discussed ways to advance” the so-called Middle East peace process and “a number of issues of mutual interest to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.”

Muscat and Tel Aviv have no diplomatic relations, and the last Israeli leader to visit Oman was then-prime minister Shimon Peres in 1996.

Earlier this week, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also visited the Persian Gulf Arab state for three days.

According to Qassemi, Trump should have learned so far that the Islamic Republic is neither after occupying a place in the region nor invading any regional country.

“As things stand, Trump has mistaken Iran for another country or terrorist groups in the region. Iran has never invaded any foreign country over the past several hundred years and will never do so in the future. Iran had never occupied a regional country before Trump took office in 2016. We have adopted the same policy since then and will never change it in the future,” he said.

The spokesman then underlined that Iran’s principled and logical policy towards the region is completely transparent. “It goes without saying that Iran remains the same with its principled regional policy unchanged. It has never undergone any change since Trump took office.”

He once again stressed that Iran is seeking to fight against regional terrorism and extremism to create peace and security and promote economic and political developments in the whole region.

Iran’s presence in Syria comes at the official request of the Syrian government and the Iranian forces provide the Syrian army with military advice in fight against terrorist groups, he added.

“Iran has had no military presence in any other country and its presence in Syria is aimed at eradicating terrorism in the region,” he said.

He warned US officials not to further tarnish the US image in the world and jeopardize their country’s national interests and said “we advise Trump to learn from history and read it once again because people of the world can’t accept that the head of a country which proclaims to be the world’s superpower acts like him.”

Qassemi also underlined that Trump’s latest anti-Iran statements amount to wishful-thinking, and his dreams about Iran will never come true.

“The Islamic Republic will defend its legal rights and national interests against ill-wishing aggressors within international law and as a country committed to all global mechanisms and treaties. We will also stand by our ideals to back all regional states and nations interested in restoring peace and stability to the region through fighting terrorism and extremism.”

Iran Urges Other Countries to Respect ICJ’s Anti-US Ruling

Addressing the UN General Assembly on Thursday, Gholamali Khoshroo called on the US “to implement the provisional measure, including refraining from measures such as wrongful sanctions which will aggravate the disputes.”

On October 3, the UN’s top court issued a ruling, reprimanding the US over its re-imposition of sanctions on Iran and ordering Washington to lift restrictive measures linked to humanitarian trade, food, medicine and civil aviation.

Khoshroo also commended “the judges and all members of the court for their unwavering commitment and sense of duty in upholding the rule of law at the international level.”

According to the verdict, Washington “shall remove by means of its choosing any impediments arising from the measures announced on May 8 to the free exportation to Iran of medicines and medical devices, food and agricultural commodities” as well as airplane parts.

In response to the ICJ ruling, Washington announced it would quit the 1955 treaty, which had established economic relations and consular rights between Tehran and Washington at the time it was signed between the countries.

Iran also argued that the US had violated the terms of the JCPOA, endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2231, by unilaterally pulling itself out of the nuclear agreement. The International Atomic Energy Agency has verified on numerous occasions that Iran has abided by the terms of the JCPOA.
