Zarif Rejects Trump’s Accusations, Says US Brought Destruction to Region

Zarif

“Iranians—including our Jewish compatriots—are commemorating 40 years of progress despite US pressure, just as [Donald Trump] again makes accusations against us,” said Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, pointing to the ten-day celebrations in Iran on the 40th anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Revolution.

“US hostility has led it to support dictators, butchers and extremists, who’ve only brought ruin to our region,” he said.

In his address, Trump sought to justify his administration’s hardened line against Iran, saying he “has acted decisively to confront the world’s leading state sponsor of terror: the radical regime in Iran.”

“We will not avert our eyes from a regime that chants Death to America and threatens genocide against the Jewish People,” he said.

Trump also said the US had pulled out of the “disastrous” nuclear deal “to ensure this corrupt dictatorship never acquires nuclear weapons.”

Iran, France to Exchange Ambassadors Soon: Deputy FM

Speaking to Le Figaro on the sidelines of the sixth round of Iran-France talks in Paris, the Iranian diplomat said the two sides have reached agreement to exchange ambassadors.

“After six months of absence of representatives of the two countries, the exchange will be carried out in the near future,” he said on Tuesday.

France announced in September it will not name a new ambassador to Tehran due to what it described a failed bomb plot against a meeting of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization terrorist group in Paris in June.

Iran has been accused by several European governments of having a role behind the plot.

Tehran denies any role and officials have said the plot could be a false flag operation set up by Israel to damage Iran-Europe relations at a time when the US withdrawal from the nuclear accord has pushed them closer together.

France’s former ambassador to Iran, Francois Senemaud departed in the summer.

Iran was also yet to replace its departed ambassador to Paris.

There are speculations that Bahram Qassemi, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, will be appointed as Iran’s ambassador to France.

US Not to Gain Domination over Iran Again: President

Rouhani made the remarks in an address to the closing ceremony of the 36th Book of the Year Award and the 26th World Book Award of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran on Tuesday.

He said Europe, the US and some reactionary Arab countries in the region imposed an all-out blockade against Iran but failed to achieve any success due to the Iranian nation’s faith, belief and hope.

The president said the US prevented four “scientists” from traveling to Tehran to receive their book awards and threatened that it would not give them visas to turn back to the United States, in a move that showed they are under sanctions.

“Who are you fighting with? You are fighting with the ideologies and civilization of the world. You are fighting with nations in our region,” Rouhani said.

“You are using a cheap, non-diplomatic and unacceptable language. You say that you will stay in Iraq to watch Iran, while you had been claiming that you are there to fight terrorism,” the Iranian president said, censuring US President Donald Trump for his recent remarks that he wanted to maintain an “incredible” US military base in Iraq to look “a little bit at Iran”.

He emphasized that neither Iranians nor Iraqis and nor any other individual around the world would accept such logic.

Rouhani said the Iranian nation would never succumb to US demands and would continue its path towards development.

According to media reports, nine foreign guests have been invited from different countries to participate in the 36th Iran’s Book of the Year Award in Tehran, but the Trump administration prevented four individuals living in the United States from traveling to Iran.

Iran to Pardon 50,000 Convicts on Revolution’s 40th Anniv.

Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani, the Iranian Judiciary Chief, was quoted by Fars as saying at a meeting with the country’s senior judicial authorities on Monday that 50,000 convicts will be pardoned or their sentences reduced on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.

Ayatollah Khamenei has agreed to a request by the Judiciary chief to pardon or reduce the sentences of as many as 50,000 eligible inmates convicted by courts of common pleas, the Islamic Revolution tribunals, the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces and the State Discretionary Punishment Organization.

The tradition is in line with implementing Paragraph 11 of Article 110 of Iran’s Constitution in a bid to reduce the adverse effects of imprisonment on the families of convicts and facilitate the process of the convicts’ rehabilitation.

Trump’s Vow to Use Bases in Iraq against Iran Draws Widespread Criticism

Speaking to CBS channel on Sunday, Trump said he would keep US bases in Iraq because he “want[s] to be looking a little bit at Iran because Iran is a real problem.”

“All I want to do is be able to watch. We have an unbelievable and expensive military base built in Iraq,” he said.

The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday the US is in no position to use Iraq against Iran.

Speaking to Fars News Agency, Bahram Qassemi said Iran enjoys “deep” relations with Iraq, and people in the country would not allow the US to threaten Iran from Iraq.

“The Iraqi people and government would not let their country turn into a base for the US government against Iran,” he said.

US Presence Source of Catastrophes

The spokesman said the US presence in Iraq is illegitimate and Washington ought to leave the country as soon as possible and respect the Iraqi nation and government.

The US presence in the region has brought nothing but billions of dollars of losses and heightened anti-US sentiments in the world, he said, warning Washington continued presence of the US in the region would cost dearly.

“All issues, problems and catastrophes in the region result from the misguided and wrong policies of the US,” he said, adding that the US is still repeating its strategic mistakes and those who make a mistake must pay for it, he said.

Iraq Gets Mad

Iraqi President Barham Saleh said the US has not taken permission to “watch” Iran from Iraq, and Washington’s presence in the region is part of a bilateral agreement to fight terrorism.

The former Iraqi premier, Haider al-Abadi, urged the US in a tweet on Monday that Iraq’s national sovereignty must be respected.

Ammar Hakim, the leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, tweeted on Monday that Iraq won’t allow others to use it to threaten its neighbours.

Earlier, Trump’s comments even raised eyebrows in Pentagon, with US officials expressing confusion over Trump’s remarks.

Splendid Beauty of Martian Mountains in Southestern Iran

Splendid Beauty of nature in Chabahar

The southeastern city of Chabahar is on the Sea of Oman with breathtaking natural places, like Martian Mountains, which are reminiscent of dreamy images.

The city is home to astonishing mountains that stand in parallel with coastal areas of the Sea of Oman. Locals call the mountains Martian because, as far as appearance is concerned, they have nothing in common with other mountains in Iran.

What follows are Mizan News Agency‘s photos of the mountains in Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran:

The top story in all papers today was the widespread reaction of Iraqi officials to US President Donald Trump’s claim that the US wants to use Iraq for “watching” Iran.

Also a top story was Iran’s criticism of what has been described as Europe’s “conditions” for implementing the special purpose vehicle it recently introduced, known as INSTEX, in order to facilitate trade with Iran in the face of the US sanctions.

Also a top story today was the Iranian Leader’s order to pardon 50,000 inmates on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.

Iran, Syria FMs Discuss Latest Developments in Tehran

In the meeting held on Tuesday in Tehran, Zarif congratulated the Syrian government and nation on their victories over terrorism.

Pointing to confessions by the Zionist regime that they support terrorists in Syria, Zarif said they are against stability and calm in Syria and the region.

The Iranian minister stressed the need for convergence, coordination and cooperation among regional countries.

Pointing to the successful trip of First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri to Syria, Zarif underlined the preparedness of Iranian firms to engage in economic interaction with Syria in the reconstruction era.

Muallem, in turn, appreciated the support offered by the Iranian government and nation for Syria against terrorists, saying the victory over terrorism was a victory of Syria, Iran and other friends of the Syrian nation.

Pointing to the situation in the region, the Syrian minister presented a report on latest developments in Syria and consultations to reach a political solution to the conflict in the country and discussed various plans and solutions.

The upcoming meeting among the leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey in Russia’s Sochi was another topic of discussion between the two ministers.

Iran Censures EU’s ‘Non-Constructive’ Statement

Iran Appoints Female Ambassador to Denmark

The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the European Union’s positive positions on Iran, particularly those on the Iran nuclear deal or JCPOA, expressed in a statement released Monday. However, there are points and criticisms to express regarding the statement,” the foreign ministry said in its statement.

What follows are the points mentioned in the statement:

  1. Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX):

The Islamic Republic of Iran is seriously critical of positions of the European Union in this regard. As announced before, Iran welcomes the registration of the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges. But there are natural and realistic expectations that the mechanism, introduced following delayed and inadequate efforts by the EU, goes operational accurately and quickly and covers other sectors of trade between Iran and European countries, as obliged in a May statement by the foreign ministers of Iran and the E3. For us, the economic aspects of JCPOA and its benefits for Iran are of particular importance and the implementation of obligations of European signatories to the nuclear deal could be an important criterion determining the future course of relations. This is unacceptable to link the implementation of this mechanism, which is part of JCPOA-related commitments, with the requirements of institutions such as FATF.

  1. Allegations of Plots in Europe:

Raising baseless allegations that Iran has designed or carried out terrorist plots in Europe was baseless and surprising in the first place. Raising such empty allegations and expressing concerns at a time when notorious terrorist and criminal groups who are freely active in Europe is not only non-constructive but is in line with the goals of enemies who want relations between Iran and Europe to sour. The Islamic Republic of Iran, as one of the biggest victims of terrorist attacks who has been a pioneer in fight against groups such as ISIS who even threaten Europe’s security, expects the EU to deal with these allegations seriously, while holding a realistic view and putting aside double standards.

  1. Iran’s Defence Activities:

As announced before, Iran’s defence activities are only defensive, deterrent and home-grown, and this issue has never been included in the agenda of our talks with other countries. We firmly believe that raising such issues is not constructive and useful and not in line with the security interests of the region and real interests of Europe, considering the current circumstances in the region and clear threats against Iran’s national security.

  1. Regional Issues:

The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly advises European countries to hold a realistic view about incidents and issues in the region and not to believe the suggestions of elements who are against peace, stability and security of the region and development of relations between governments and nations. The Islamic Republic of Iran always supports dialogue, interaction and political solutions for settling regional crises.

  1. Human Rights:

The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the use of human rights as a political tool against independent countries. The behaviour of Iran in the past four decades shows Iran’s seriousness in promoting human rights and fulfilling international commitments through constructive cooperation and dialogue-based mechanisms. Positive measures and interactions of Iran with the UN’s human rights bodies and related international institutions indicate Iran’s commitment to continuing constructive cooperation. Expressing concern about the conditions of human rights in Iran, while it is clear to everyone that Iran’s human rights conditions are immaculate compared to that of others in the region, is an attempt to divert public opinion and an insistence on a wrong approach that can deepen distrust in bilateral relations.

In a region where the main crises are the massacre of children at the hands of the Zionist regime and the crimes of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen (carried out by conventional and non-conventional weapons provided by western governments including some EU members), such positions are undoubtedly non-constructive and rejected in the world’s eyes. The silence of the EU regarding widespread violations of human rights in its member countries, including violations of basic rights of refugees and immigrants, the growth of alt-right tendencies, and racist attacks against ethnic and religious minorities, particularly Muslims (due to hate speeches by European officials and violent moves by extremists), contradicts EU’s claims that they are advocating human rights.

Conclusion

The Islamic Republic of Iran seeks constructive dialogue with the EU, based on mutual interests and respect. The history of dialogues and cooperation between Iran and the EU, particularly the experience gained in the past three years, shows that there are great capacities for developing relations between the two sides. We hope that the fulfilment of Europe’s commitments would prepare the ground for deepening relations as soon as possible.

Iran Self-Sufficient in Manufacturing Oxygen-18: Nuclear Chief

Speaking to reporters in the city of Khondab in Iran’s Markazi Province on Monday, Salehi said Iran has managed to produce oxygen-18 with a purity level of 97 percent.

Iran has the capacity to produce 60 kilograms of oxygen-18 in a year, he added, saying each kilogram of the substance would cost 30,000 if it were to be purchased from abroad.

Salehi finally noted that only a few countries in the world have the technical know-how to produce oxygen-18, saying Iran has gained self-sufficiency in producing the substance which is an important precursor for the production of fluorodeoxyglucose used in positron emission tomography.
