Iran’s Foreign Minister to Visit Azerbaijan Republic

“Based on his schedule to visit northern neighbours of Iran, the Foreign Minister is expected to visit Azerbaijan,” he told Trend news agency.

“The two countries are expected to discuss economic and bilateral issues during the visit,” Mousavi added.

“The date of the visit has not been specified yet, but it would be part of a tour to several northern neighbours including Azerbaijan,” he added.

Mousavi emphasized that the schedule of the visit will be announced shortly.

He also indicated that high-ranking Iranian officials would attend the Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Baku.

“The level of visiting officials will be similar to other ministerial conferences of the Non-Aligned Movement but the schedule for the visit is not set yet,” he added.

The Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an international organization uniting 120 member countries, and 17 observer countries and 10 international organizations.

Azerbaijan, a full member of the organization since 2011, is to take the chairmanship until 2022, which will take place on October 25th to 26th 2019 in Baku.

US Mass Shootings Result of Sanctifying Violence: Zarif

Zarif made the remarks in reaction to two mass shootings in the US states of Texas and Ohio, where 29 people were killed and at least 52 others sustained injuries within less than 24 hours.

“We were very saddened yesterday. It was a source of great regret for us that American people, innocent citizens, fell victim to the shooting culture, the culture of bullying, the culture of coercion, the culture of sanctifying violence, a culture that sanctifies violence and the killing of innocent people, the culture that talks of war as an option on the table,” he said.

“This culture is not a successful one. In today’s world, this discourse cannot last long,” he added in a press conference on Monday held on the occasion of National Journalists’ Day.

He strongly criticized the US’ warmongering policies, including its repeated threats to use the military options against the Islamic Republic amid heightened tensions in the region.

“Has the United States, which boasts of its warmongering so much, won a single war since the Vietnam War? Except for Grenada. Is it an honour for a world superpower to have won only one war over 70 years, and that war being against a tiny state like Grenada?” Zarif said.

He made the comments in reference to a tweet by US President Donald Trump, in which he claimed the Iranians have never won a war.

“The US has not won any other war; it has lost the Vietnam war, the regional wars have resulted in nothing but destruction and damage,” Zarif noted.

“Wherever they set their foot, they achieve nothing but humiliation – from Afghanistan, where after 18 years they are holding talks with the Taliban before leaving the country with humiliation, to Iraq where their presence resulted in the creation of ISIS, to Syria where they left nothing but misery for themselves and the region, to the Persian Gulf where they have just committed crimes whenever they were present, the worst case of which was the killing of 290 innocent people in their attack on Iran Air’s Airbus.”

He said “this discourse is doomed to failure. We should admit the time of hegemony discourse is long over, so is the case for the discourses of superpowers and bullying.”

Rouhani Says War with Iran ‘Mother of All Wars’

“I emphasise again, peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars,” Rouhani told a press conference at the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

“Security against security, strait against strait, peace against peace, and oil against oil; this is what we say,” he added.

“It can’t be that the Strait of Hormuz is free for you and the Strait of Gibraltar is not free for us,” Rouhani said.

The Iranian president also announced that Washington needs to lift all its sanctions against Iran if it really seeks negotiations with Tehran.

“If the United States wants to negotiate, it must lift the sanctions in their entirety before anything” so that it will not be accounted as a violator of human rights, said Rouhani. “We can’t talk to a criminal.”

The president further questioned the US government’s sincerity in its repeated offers of talks to Tehran, which have come in parallel with the “maximum pressure” campaign underway against the Iranian nation.

Rouhani further blasted the US for waging “economic terrorism” against the Iranian people, calling on Americans to reconsider their behaviour and “pave the ground for negotiations.”

The remarks were made during a speech which also praised Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif after the United States recently imposed sanctions on him.

The president underscored that the Foreign Ministry and its director do not belong to a specific party or faction, but represent the entire Iranian nation and reflect Iran’s foreign policy in the international arena.

Rouhani then made it clear for the US government that it will be impossible to change the regime in Iran through sanctions or pressures, stressing that the Iranian people will never back off from safeguarding their country and the Islamic Republic as long as the Article 6 of the Constitution in in effect.

The Article 6 stipulates that the affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran must be administered on the basis of public opinion expressed by the means of elections.

The president also lauded Zarif as a political elite who has gained the highest degree of specialist expertise in foreign policy with his talent and experience, like a Mujtahid in the religious studies.

On July 31, the US Department of State said Washington has designated Zarif for acting on behalf of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The US president had issued an executive order on June 24, imposing sanctions on the Leader and his office and authorizing sanctions on others associated with Ayatollah Khamenei.

“With the efforts of the Parliament’s Cultural and Social Commission and in a constructive interaction with the government and the Guardian Council, the Cultural Heritage, Handcraft and Tourism Organisation (ICHTO) will turn into a ministry,” the committee’s spokeswoman Fatemeh Zolqad said on Tuesday.

Zolqadr told ISNA that the establishment of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts is a step towards creating a change, holding the government accountable and increasing the Parliament’s supervision.

“Preserving the cultural heritage is in fact the protection and preservation of the historical past and the cultural foundations of Iran with a huge and extensive historical background in the pre-Islamic and Islamic eras.”

“Having this valuable asset,” she said, “is actually the key infrastructure for the development of the tourism industry, which is the most fundamental factor of the oil-free economy, and we need to pay close attention to this valuable and fundamental issue.”

This change is expected to increase the utilisation of existing capacities and, as a result, increase the supervisory power of the people’s representatives over the work and activity of the Ministry, she went on to say.

It will further enhance and prosper the tourism industry, and increase employment and investment opportunities in this field, she added.

Zarif Sanctions Sign of US Failure: Gen. Soleimani

The top general, who is the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), said in a meeting with Mohammad Javad Zarif that the US move to impose sanctions on the top Iranian diplomat was a crazy move.

“The United States’ imposing sanctions on you proved that you, as the official in charge of the country’s foreign policy, has had a major impact on making public opinion, especially American people, aware of the ignorance of this country’s officials,” he said.

The top commander said among the features of Zarif is his honesty and efforts to defend national interests.

He said the US has imposed sanctions on Zarif because he is closely associated with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Iran Condoles with Afghanistan on Death of Top Shiite Cleric

In his Monday message, Zarif also condoled with Afghan scholars and the respected family of Ayatollah Mohseni, who was the head of Afghanistan’s Shiite Ulema Council and a great harbinger of Islamic brotherhood.

He also wished him mercy and greatest divine rewards.

Afghanistan’s top cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Mohammad Asif Mohseni passed away due to an illness in Kabul, his family confirmed on Monday.

Mohseni was born in 1935 in the southern province of Kandahar and was widely considered to be the most powerful cleric among the Shias in Afghanistan.

Mohseni who was the founder of the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan was one of the prominent figures in the Afghan resistance against the Soviet occupation.

After the establishment of a new democratic system in Afghanistan, Mohseni left active politics and instead continued teaching Jurisprudence at Khatam Al-Nabieen religious seminary, founded in 2001.

Mohseni pursued studies in the holy city of Najaf in Iraq under Grand Ayatollah Abul Qasim Khoei, Muhsin al-Hakim and Abdul ala Sabzwari.

Spokesman: 3rd Reduction in Iran’s Nuclear Commitments Only A Month Away

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Monday, Behrouz Kamalvandi said if the other parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action keep failing to honor the deal, Iran will take the third step in halting certain commitments under the JCPOA in about a month, as already announced by President Hassan Rouhani.

Asked about Iran’s activities in the course of the second step, Kamalvandi said the stockpile of enriched uranium has increased and the Arak heavy water reactor is also operating at full capacity.

The level of uranium enrichment has remained at 4.5 percent purity, he noted, adding that the heavy water produced in Arak is being exported to a number of markets.

The EU’s failure of ensure Iran’s economic interests under the JCPOA has forced Tehran to stop honoring certain commitments, including an unlimited rise in the stockpile of enriched uranium.

In early July, Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium exceeded 300 kg.

Iranian Minister Raps US Sanctions as Crime against Humanity

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Jamil Jabak in Tehran on Monday, Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki said the US sanctions on the medicine for Iranian patients and the heavy pressures on Iran’s health sector amount to crimes against humanity.

The minister noted that, however, 97 percent of the medicines for the local market are produced inside the country, and only supplying the other three percent has been hampered by the sanctions.

Namaki then unveiled plans to make Iran fully self-sufficient in the pharmaceutical industry in the coming years, saying the knowledge-based companies and the young local scientists are going to collaborate on the project to cut the medicine import.

The health minister further voiced Iran’s readiness to supply Lebanon’s demand for medicine and help the Arab country improve its infrastructures in the health and pharmaceutical industry by transferring new technologies.

Namaki also proposed the idea of establishing a joint pharmaceutical factory in Lebanon and turning it into a regional hub for the export of Iranian medicine.

“We would never consider Lebanon as a trade market, rather, we are ready to develop that country’s infrastructures in the health sector,” the Iranian minister underlined.

For his part, the Lebanese health minister decried the “cruel sanctions” against Iran, stressing that Beirut sees no limits to cooperation with Tehran.

Jabak also said an escalation of sanctions on Iran that would deny Iranian people’s access to medicine and food will be a crime against humanity and face widespread international opposition.

At the conclusion of the conference, the Iranian health minister formally invited his Lebanese counterpart to attend the 66th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean in Tehran, slated for October 14-17.

The two ministers have also signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and Lebanon on the pharmaceutical and medical equipment industries, health, medical education and research, and health promotion.
