Dutch Tourist Impressed by Iran’s Hospitality, Safety

After her first trip to Iran and visiting its southern cities with a rented car, Dutch citizen Anita Dirix describes Iranians as warm-hearted, sweet, and hospitable people living in a country that is safe for foreign tourists of all races and nationalities.

Dirix began her trip from the Alamut mountains in northern Iran with an itinerary that included visiting Tehran, Kashan, Yazd, Kerman, Isfahan, and Shiraz during three weeks.

“What encouraged me to visit Iran was what I had heard about the Iranian people and culture,” she told IRNA.

Dutch Tourist Impressed by Iran’s Hospitality, SafetyDirix says she started growing fond of Iran when she worked in Afghanistan’s Herat some 20 years ago, recalling when she drew a link between the culture of people in Herat and Iran and considered Iran as a suitable option for a trip.

“Although many tourists from the Netherlands visit Iran, it (Iran) is not still well-known and famous among people of that country (the Netherlands),” Dirix said.

Anita is now visiting Iran’s southern city of Kerman with a rented car.

“The books offering the tourists travel guides and information about Iran say it is impossible to rent a car in Iran and that Iran has no place for car rental, but I’m so glad that I could rent a car,” she added.

On her trip to Iran’s southern province of Kerman, Dirix said she was mostly impressed by the Arg-e Bam (Citadel of Bam), noting, “This historic monument was always a missing place in my mind. I’m so happy to see the site, and I found it a wonderful place.”

The Dutch woman also complained about the lack of guides and information about most of the ancient historic sites of Kerman, saying, “In most of Kerman’s historic sites, there was nobody to provide a good description of those places, and there was a real need for tourist site guides. So I had to content myself with the descriptions written on a tablet or a sign at the entrance of the tourists sites.”

Thrilled by the old bazaar of Kerman, Dirix said the beauty of the bazaar was beyond her expectations, and that she saw a lot of people from Afghanistan and Pakistan working in the market.

Dirix said she was also impressed by the Ganjali Khan Bath and the Kalut Shahdad Desert in Kerman, saying, “I drove alone from Yazd to Shahdad, and visited the Shahdad Desert with a guide. I saw the beautiful sunrise in the desert that was indelibly imprinted on my mind.”

“I like to put Iran in the list of my trips once again,” she concluded.

Hormoz Technology Tower to Open in Southern Iran

Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari arrived in the province on Saturday and was welcomed by the provincial governor as well as other high-ranking provincial authorities.

The vice president is to inaugurate the Hormoz Technology Tower, visit knowledge-based companies and attend a meeting on the promotion of the province’s knowledge-based companies and economy.

Ground was broken for the tower in 2017 aimed at creating a physical space to house technology experts, innovators and knowledge-based companies of the province as well as creating an environment for innovation and entrepreneurship in the province supported by the Science and Technology Department of the Presidential Office.

The tower contains 9 floors, including a floor used as workshop and laboratory, a floor jointly used by startups, and other floors belonging to provincial development centres as well as offices for research on, and development of active industries.

Balance in Fulfilling Obligations Key to Saving JCPOA VP Jahangiri

He made the remarks at the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of Governments (Prime Ministers) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Uzbekistan on Saturday.

After US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran has declared its readiness to continue talks with the other parties of JCPOA, he said, adding that Iran has begun the process of halting its nuclear commitments in accordance with the JCPOA after a year, declaring that if the other sides fulfill their obligations, Iran will resume its nuclear obligations under the JCPOA again.

The JCPOA was an efficient and successful model of multilateral diplomacy in the framework of Iran’s long and difficult negotiations with six influential world powers, he said.

The current US government withdrew from the JCPOA in an unprecedented way and has since imposed economic sanctions on Iran, through its financial, banking, domestic laws, and technology, to block the economic cooperation of all countries in the world with Iran, Jahangiri added.

The US’ unilateral acts to impose cruel sanctions on the Iranian nation are a clear case of economic terrorism and violation of the international law principles and the United Nations Charter, he highlighted, saying that therefore the international communities are responsible.

Emphasizing Iran’s interest in regional cooperation, Jahangiri mentioned that regional organizations play an important role in advancing a multilateral approach in the international system and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can be a pioneer in this regard.

He said Iran is also interested in becoming a key member of the Organization, pointing out that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has a great capacity for economic, political and security cooperation and the member-states of the organization can rely on these capacities, and expand partnerships.

Iran attaches importance to regional and international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and establishment of international peace and security, he noted, adding that Iran emphasizes the collective confrontation with this criminal phenomenon and considers its commitment to combating terrorism and striving for a world free of violence and extremism.

Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE) proposed by the President of Iran at the UN General Assembly is a good opportunity to achieve lasting peace, cooperation and partnership among the regional countries, ensuring the security of energy, shipping and world trade with the region, the Iranian VP said, adding Iran expects the support of international community and regional organizations for HOPE

Jahangiri left Tehran for Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on Friday, November 1 in order to attend the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organization, the creation of which was announced on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai (China) by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Iran Unveils New Murals on Walls of Former US Embassy

The old murals had been erased in late September in what was viewed initially as a positive development in Iran-US ties, but it was soon revealed they were going to be replaced with new ones on the fortieth anniversary of the so-called hostage crisis.

On November 4, 1979, less than nine months after Iran’s last shah was toppled, pro-revolution students stormed what they called the “spy nest” and took Americans hostage at the embassy to protest the ex-shah’s admission to hospital in the US.

The crisis ended 444 days later with the release of 52 Americans, but the US broke off diplomatic relations in 1980 and ties have never been restored.

The new murals were unveiled during a Saturday ceremony attended by IRGC Chief Commander Major General Hossein Salami.

Iran’s Missile Stockpiles More than Necessary: IRGC

Major General Hossein Salami made the remarks in a Saturday ceremony to unveil murals on the former US embassy building in Tehran known as “The Den of Espionage.”

“We first talk to the world using the language of logic,” he said, adding however that the country’s missile stockpiles are even more than necessary for countering the enemy’s aggression.

He said the United States’ power has been on the decline since the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran, and now the Americans cannot strike a balance between the costs of their actions and their achievements, even in the economic domain.

“They are in the spiral of decline, and it has been decades and years that the world has not witnessed any political victory by them,” said General Salami.

The senior commander described the United States’ identity as contradictory. “The reality is that one can describe the United States as a contradictory identity and a completely contradictory political entity.”

General Salami further said Washington has been directly or indirectly involved in wars in the Muslim world over the past forty years.

“During the existence of the US, more than 8.5 million people have been killed as a result of US interference in the east and west of the world, from the war in Mexico to the war in the Far East as well as World Wars I & II,” he noted.

“This is while the US is the biggest exporter of arms in the world and main party involved in small and big wars; however, US authorities, in word and on paper, speak of making the world a secure place,” he noted.

“The American speak of countering weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), but they are the first regime to have gained access to nuclear arms and the only country to have used such weapons two times and killed hundreds of thousands of people in a fraction of a second,” he added.

“Can such a country which has the power to destroy planet Earth several times using nukes be one that counters nuclear weapons?” the top general asked ironically.

“The US speaks of human rights while it ignores these rights all over the world and encroaches upon human rights, namely attacking wedding ceremonies in Afghanistan or launching nighttime raids on people’s homes in Iraq and [running] formidable Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib prisons as well as other prisons in Europe and the United States,” he said.

General Salami underlined that United States has masterminded numerous coups and hatched plots to oust democratic governments, and hence, it cannot be an advocate of democracy.

Iran to Export Electricity to Syria Through Iraq: Minister

Ardakanian made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of an agreement between Tehran and Damascus, which was also attended by Syrian Electricity Minister Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutly.

He underlined independent states should seek to reach self-sufficiency in vital areas, including the electricity sector.

“Iran’s electricity industry is not only planning to construct power stations in, or export electricity to Syria. Many a European producer may enjoy a better technology in this field, but they always view countries in need as customers,” said Ardakanian.

“But we are planning to have jointly-run companies in order to train manpower and have repair groups to rebuild damaged parts, so that our neighbours will, after some time, get to a point which Iran reached several years ago, and Iran reached self-sufficiency in that field,” he added.

He said the less the presence of foreign firms, the more likely it will be for regional peace and security to improve.

“The starting point for this chapter of mutual cooperation is to set up a joint working group between the Iranian and Syrian energy ministries in order to draw up a plan for the next two to three years to implement required projects in this sector and put specified projects on the agenda,” he said.

“After this phase, the necessary planning will be done for a three-way electricity network between Iran, Iraq and Syria, so that we will utilize the existing facilities to get to a point where no citizen is deprived of electricity,” said the minister.

He said Iran is trying to help Syria’s electricity industry reach self-sufficiency to a considerable extent.

The Syrian official, in turn, said on the sidelines of his meeting with Ardakanian that Tehran and Damascus seek to sign new cooperation agreements in the near future.

He said Iran has played a pivotal role in stabilizing and protecting Syria’s National Grid.

4 Iranian Cities Now on UNESCO’s List of Global Creative Cities

After UNESCO’s biennial reviews, the cities of Sanandaj (for its music) and Bandar Abbas (for its handicrafts) joined the network of global creative cities. Rasht (for its food) and Isfahan (for its handicrafts) had already joined the network.

Bandar Abbas and Sanandaj have been picked due to their creativity in the fields of handicrafts and music respectively, said Hojjatollah Ayoubi, the secretary general of UNESCO’s Iran National Commission.

“Joining the network of creative cities is a fresh opportunity for these cities to draw on global experiences and better introduce what they have to the world,” Ayoubi noted.

“One of the important duties of UNESCO’s national commissions in all countries is to tap into all existing potentialities at this international organization in favour of that country in order to secure national interests,” he added.

“One of the projects welcomed at UNESCO over the past few years is joining the network of creative cities,” the official noted.

“There are very few countries which manage to present complete cases in this regard and upgrade their infrastructure to a level which will make them known as a global creative city, and these cities can introduce what they have better, and if this happens, we will see an increase in the number of trips and promotion of tourism and drawing on global experiences and transferring one’s experiences to other countries,” he said.

He noted many Iranian cities have what it takes to become global in numerous areas.

Following the inscription, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi tweeted that the two cities’ joining the global network of creative cities will provide them with an opportunity to learn from global experiences and further introduce what they have to the world.

Iranian Actress Invites ‘Mary Poppins’ to Come to Iran

Andrews played the role in a feature film called “Mary Poppins” 55 years ago. Behnoush Tabatabai, Mehraveh Sharifinia, Ehsan Karami, and Armin Rahimian are among the actors who have now played in the Iranian musical performance directed by Ahmad Soleimani.

The play has been on stage at the Vahdat Hall in Tehran since October 30. The work is an open adaptation of Pamla L. Travers’ collection of “Mary Poppins” stories, translated by Ahmad Koulivandi, with songwriting and dramaturgy by Mohammad-Reza Koohestani. The play narrates the story of a babysitter played by Behnoush Tabatabai.

The original musical “Mary Poppins” feature was directed by Robert Stevenson and produced by Walt Disney in 1964, with Julie Andrews playing the role of the babysitter.

Top Banker Refutes US Claims, Says Iran’s Exports Growing

In a post on his Instagram page, the CBI chief debunked the US claim about the effectiveness of sanctions against Iran.

Citing the reports of new American sanctions as part of Washington’s policy of maximum pressure on Iran, Hemmati dismissed the claim by Brian Hook, the US special representative on Iran in the State Department, that Iran’s oil export has fallen to 120,000 barrels a day.

The top banker also pointed to two other reports about new US sections on Iran’s construction sector and US cooperation with a number of regional countries for imposing sanctions on 25 Iranian corporations and individuals, adding, “Each of those phrases (about sanctions on Iran) have been already announced under various titles.”

Hemmati stressed that since Brian Hook’s claim about driving Iran’s oil exports down to 120,000 bpd is false, the two other reports are also wrong and would not merit attention.

“Iran’s economy is following the trade path, under the sanctions, to the growth of oil and non-oil exports,” the CBI governor underlined.
