Ukrainian Plane Crash Shouldn’t Be Politicised, Iran Tells ICAO

He made his comments in a detailed speech at the 223rd Session of the ICAO Council.

In his speech, Baharvand once again expressed regret over the tragic event and expressed condolences to the families of victims while elaborating on the legal, judicial and technical dimensions of the accident.

He reiterated that the Iranian government will pay damages to the families of those who lost their lives in the plane crash.

The diplomat highlighted Iran’s recommendations mentioned in the final report on the air accident and said he was pleased to see ICAO had paid attention to them and drawn up working plans to implement those recommendations.

He welcomed any initiative or program to boost the safety of international aviation.

In response to politically-tainted and unprofessional comments by the Canadian transport minister in the session, Baharvand warned against any moves to politicise the issue.

The Iranian diplomat said such moves or any other pretext or justification will not only not help enhance the safety of aviation, but will result in deviation from the technical objectives of ICAO and safe air transport.

The chairman of the ICAO Council and delegations present at the session, for their part, expressed their gratitude to the Iranian team and underlined that the air crash issue was a technical and non-political one.

Iran Denounces GCC’s ‘Baseless, Hackneyed’ Accusations

khatibzadeh-Iran

Khatibzadeh dismissed the statement as utterly unconstructive.

He dismissed as “double standards” the policy adopted by certain countries which claim that they want to ameliorate their relations with Iran, but at the same time level unfounded accusations against Iran.

He said the GCC is hostage to the excessive demands resulting from the failed policies of a clamourous few from GCC member states.

“Such stances toward the Islamic Republic of Iran will undermine dialogue-oriented viewpoints, turn the region into a depot of ammunitions produced by Western companies and lay the groundwork for further interference by foreigners in this important region,” the spokesman noted.

“Despite the recent crime by the Israeli regime and the martyrdom of hundreds of defenceless Palestinians in Gaza and the desecration of the holy shrine in the Holy Quds, we are regrettably seeing that some regional countries shamelessly continue to turn a blind eye to these crimes and target their attacks at the Islamic Republic of Iran and resistance groups in the region,” he said.

“Countries whose intervention in other countries has led to the killing of innocent citizens, especially in Yemen, and the spread of insecurity and terrorism in the region, seek to cover up their anti-human rights crimes through blame games and avoid international punishments,” he added.

Khatibzadeh rejected the provisions of the GCC foreign ministers’ statement on Iran’s nuclear program and reiterated Iran’s compliance with laws and regulations.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always lived up to the international law and its commitments; so, it brooks no interference in its nuclear and missile programs as well as issues associated with its military, defence and deterrence policies,” he said.

“These countries had better make good on their unfulfilled commitments towards international organizations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” Khatibzadeh underlined.

“The exorbitant military expenses spent by some GCC member states as well as their interventionist actions in other countries have become evident to the whole world,” he said.

Khatibzadeh expressed hope that the GCC member states pay attention to the realities of the region instead of releasing threadbare statements and adopt approaches which accommodate regional dialogue and cooperation.

He reiterated that the three islands of Abu Musa, the Greater and Lesser Tunbs are an integral part of Iran’s territory.

“Any claim contrary to this position is regarded by Iran as worthless and as interference in its internal affairs and territorial domain,” he added.

“Based on its strategic standpoint and fundamental policies, Iran has always said that the solution to regional problems are based on interaction and cooperation, and has welcomed initiatives geared to the promotion of relations based on international principles and regulations,” he said.

Iran Election 2021: People Start Voting for New President

The polls opened at 7 am local time for the vote.
Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Khamenei Khamenei cast the ceremonial first ballot in the election.

Opinion polling and analysts have put judiciary chief Ebrahim Raisi as the dominant front-runner in a field of four candidates.

Former Central Bank governor, Abdolnasser Hemmati, is running as the race’s moderate candidate.

More than 59 million voters are eligible to vote among Iran’s more than 80 million people.

However, the state-linked Iranian Student Polling Agency has estimated a turnout of just 42%, which would be the lowest ever since the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran.

Iran’s Zarif in Turkey to Attend Antalya Diplomacy Forum

Iran’s Foreign Minister Leaves Turkey for Russia

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh, the Iranian Foreign Minister will deliver a speech at the Forum on Iran’s neighbourliness doctrine and elaborate on Iran’s policies regarding the issue.

“On the sidelines of this forum, the Iranian Foreign Minister will hold meetings with a number of high-ranking officials, including the Foreign Ministers participating in the event, and will also take part in a trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Iran, Turkey and Afghanistan,” Khatibzadeh said on Thursday.

The Antalya Diplomacy Forum will open on Friday, June 18, 2021, with a speech by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The meeting will be attended by high-ranking officials and foreign ministers of various countries, the heads of international and regional organisations, and prominent diplomats.

New opportunities for peace and cooperation in the South Caucasus, reinforcement of regional solidarity, regional collaborations in Asia, relations with Africa, the issues of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, transatlantic relations, the issues of refugees and immigrants, economic diplomacy and trade, communications and the spread of fake news in the cyberspace are among the most important issues which will be discussed at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

Iran’s Leader Urges Huge Turnout in June 18 Presidential Election

Iran’s Leader Urges Huge Turnout in June 18 Presidential Election

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said people’s choice on election day will definitely influence all key economic and non-economic issues the country is facing.

The Leader also touched upon efforts by the enemy to create voter apathy, undermine Iran and then ratchet up pressure on the country and interfere in the country’s political and economic affairs.

“People, especially the deprived class, are right to have grievances as to why not enough is done to solve their livelihood problems, but these problems should be settled by choosing a strong, powerful and indefatigable person,” said the Leader.

Ayatollah Khamenei urged a huge voter turnout on election day to deal a blow to the enemy.

“In Friday’s election, the turnout is the first priority, and the choice that people make comes next,” he explained.

He said the enemy’s propaganda campaigns are aimed at ruining people’s mindset about the election and, if possible, intervene in the ballot.

“They (the enemy) wouldn’t like the grandeur and glory of Iran’s election to be revealed, but to the enemy’s dismay, elections have always been held on time and with the participation of people,” he noted.

Jalili, Zakani Drop Out of Iran’s Presidential Race in Favour of Raisi

Jalili announced his decision on Wednesday afternoon, and Zakani did so on Thursday morning.

In reaction to Jalili’s withdrawal, Raisi said, “Dr. Saeid Jalili’s commitment-driven and timely decision indicated his revolutionary commitment and devotion.”

“I appreciated his untiring efforts,” he added.

“Today, is the day for a major campaign to help Iran take a leap,” the message further read.

Earlier, the reformist candidate Mohsen Mehralizadeh had dropped in favour of Abdolnasser Hemmati, the former moderate governor of the Central Bank of Iran.

Now only Mohsen Rezaei, Abdolnasser Hemmati, Amir-Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi, and Ebrahim Raisi have remained in the race.
