Iran denies reports of 40 million barrels of oil stranded at sea

Iran Oil Spill

“I completely reject this claim,” Paknejad said in response to recent reports by Platts, affiliated with S&P Global Commodity Insights, and Bloomberg, which alleged a buildup of Iranian crude both offshore and on land. The reports suggested the oversupply has led to steep price discounts and market instability, particularly in sales to China.

Paknejad clarified that Iran’s oil sales strategy involves temporary storage or re-routing of shipments based on market conditions, calling such practices “routine” and “tactical.” He emphasized, “We do not have oil we cannot sell.”

Addressing concerns about strain on refineries during the 12-day war with Israel, where Iran reportedly produced 200 million liters of gasoline, the minister noted that supply was managed effectively through strategic measures and the dedication of energy sector personnel.

Iran remains under international sanctions that limit its oil exports, though it continues to maintain a significant presence in key markets, especially Asia.

Iran slams as ridiculous accusations by US, other Western countries

Gaza War

Baqaei stated, “The US, France, and other signatories of the anti-Iran statement, as supporters and hosts of violent and terrorist elements and groups, must be held accountable for their violations of international law in supporting terrorism.”

He also referred to the recent military aggression by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran and the ongoing genocide in Gaza, that have been met with either active support or complicit silence from the countries that signed the statement.

Baqaei called their accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran blatant fabrications and an evasive tactic.

He said these moves are part of a malign Iranophobia campaign aimed at pressuring the Iranian people.

The countries accused Iran’s intelligence agencies of orchestrating “assassination plots, kidnappings, and targeted harassment of individuals” in Europe and the United States.

The Iranian spokesperson emphasized that such behavior violates the principles of international law and the UN Charter, and that the countries endorsing this statement must be held accountable for their inappropriate and irresponsible conduct.

Iran says concerned over internal crisis in Sudan, parallel government

Esmael baghaei

Baqaei warned about the destructive consequences of the move on Sudan’s stability and security.

Emphasizing the need to respect Sudan’s territorial integrity and national unity, he noted that continued foreign interference in the country’s affairs is highly detrimental.

The spokesperson stressed that the solution to Sudan’s crisis lies in halting the conflict and initiating Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue without foreign intervention.

A coalition led by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which is fighting for power in Sudan’s civil war, has announced the formation of a new parallel government,

naming a prime minister and unveiling a sovereign council.

Head of Basij Organization: Enemies’ Attempts to Divide Iran Failed

On Thursday evening in Isfahan, Brigadier General Gholamreza Soleimani said the enemies had planned four stages: first, to deliver a heavy blow; then, to incite unrest; next, to activate separatists; and finally, to bring the Americans into the field. But all these conspiracies failed.

Speaking on the 40th day of commemoration for the martyrs of the 12-day aggression by the US and the Zionist regime, General Soleimani added that the enemies called for a ceasefire after 10 days because their endurance had run out.

He said the Westerners and Zionists sought to create unrest, separatism, and ultimately military intervention, but the Iranian nation, through cohesion, unity, and obedience to the Supreme Leader, created the greatest scene of resistance and defeated the enemy.

The head of the Basij Organization, emphasizing the role of the Islamic Revolution in changing regional equations, noted that the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran was a turning point in the history of the Islamic world, marking the beginning of honor, grandeur, and independence for Iran and the Islamic world.

He said Iran became the standard-bearer of resistance and independence, and the culture of sacrifice and martyrdom during the 12-day sacred defense showed that the Iranian nation can defeat its enemies without foreign assistance.

General Soleimani, stating that the goal of the Americans and the hegemonic European powers in supporting the Zionist regime is to preserve their influence and dominance, added that they do not want any powerful country to exist outside the political domination of the Zionists.

Russia’s Medvedev mocks Trump’s ‘nervous reaction’

Dmitry Medvedev

Medvedev was responding to a post by Trump on Truth Social hours earlier, in which the US president described him as a “failed” former leader and warned him to “watch his words,” adding that Medvedev was “entering very dangerous territory.”

“If some words from the former president of Russia trigger such a nervous reaction from the high-and-mighty president of the United States, then Russia is doing everything right and will continue to proceed along its own path,” Medvedev, who currently serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, wrote on social media.

He also ridiculed Trump’s claim that the Russian and Indian economies were “dead” and going “down together” due to lack of cooperation with the US.

Medvedev had earlier dismissed Trump’s demands for Moscow to swiftly end its military campaign against Ukraine, calling the threats of secondary sanctions against Russian energy customers “theatrical” and ineffective. Medvedev insisted that such ultimatums will not prevent Russia from pursuing its national security goals and merely make Trump appear similar to his predecessor, Joe Biden.

Trump previously criticized the BRICS group of nations, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and several other states pursuing a new multipolar world order. The US president claimed proposed tariffs on countries doing business with BRICS members could cripple the organization.

Trump’s statement regarding India and Medvedev followed New Delhi’s refusal to accommodate US demands on trade.

Lebanon’s president unveils draft response to US plan for disarming Hezbollah, calls for army monopoly on weapons

Hezbollah

Speaking at the Defense Ministry in Beirut on the occasion of Army Day, Aoun said Lebanon must “seize the historic opportunity” to affirm the state’s sole authority over arms and to end the cycle of wars “fought for others and on our soil.”

“No weapon is more reliable than the army’s in the face of aggression,” Aoun added, warning that “the current stage is decisive and cannot tolerate provocations.”

The Lebanese draft calls for an immediate halt to Israeli hostilities by land, sea, and air, including assassinations, and for Israel’s full withdrawal behind internationally recognized borders, coupled with the release of detainees.

It further seeks to extend state authority across all Lebanese territory, requiring all armed groups, including Hezbollah, to surrender their weapons to the national army.

To strengthen Lebanon’s security institutions, the plan envisions $1 billion in annual international funding for a decade. It also proposes convening an international donor conference in the fall to launch a nationwide reconstruction program.

Another key element is the demarcation and confirmation of Lebanon’s land and maritime borders with Syria, with assistance from the US, France, Saudi Arabia, and UN experts. The draft also addresses the pressing

Syrian refugee crisis, while outlining measures to combat smuggling and drug trafficking and to support alternative agriculture and industries.

“These provisions,” Aoun stated, “block Israel from continuing its aggression, enforce its withdrawal from occupied land, and for the first time firmly draw Lebanon’s borders south and east.”

His remarks came days after US envoy Tom Barrack warned that “the credibility of Lebanon’s government rests on its ability to match principle with practice.”

“As its leaders have said repeatedly, it is critical that the state has a monopoly on arms. As long as Hezbollah retains arms, words will not suffice,” he wrpte on X.

On Wednesday, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem stressed that his group will not surrender its weapons “for the sake of Israel,” asserting that disarmament is “a purely internal Lebanese matter.”

Aoun also revealed that Lebanon had received a Saudi initiative to help secure stability along the Lebanese-Syrian border, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation for Lebanon’s recovery.

“Together, we want to restore a state that protects all its people,” Aoun continued, noting, “No faction should rely on outside powers or arms, but we must all draw strength from our unity, our consensus, and our army.”

Israel launched military operations in Lebanon on Oct. 8, 2023, which escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, killing more than 4,000 people and injuring around 17,000.

A ceasefire was reached in November, but Israeli forces have conducted near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming to target activities of the Hezbollah group.

Under the truce, Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply. Israel still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.

Iran President’s envoy holds meeting with Mir-Hossein Mousavi amid hopes for ending house arrest

According to Mohammad-Jafar Ghaempanah, Executive Vice President, the meeting was conducted on behalf of the president and reflects Pezeshkian’s commitment to addressing one of the most pressing demands of the reformist base.

“This encounter, along with recent visits by close associates of Mousavi, shows the president’s serious intention to resolve the issue,” Ghaempanah said.

He added that the judiciary has also shown “positive indications” toward a potential resolution.

Mousavi, a former prime minister and presidential candidate, has been placed under house arrest since  February 2009, following his objection to the outcome of Iran’s presidential election that year.

He was among those who insisted that the election was rigged, a claim strongly refuted by the authorities.

Zelensky calls for ‘regime change’ in Russia

Volodymyr Zelensky

“I believe Russia can be pushed to stop this war. It started it, and it can be made to end it, but if the world doesn’t aim to change the regime in Russia, that means even after the war ends, Moscow will still try to destabilise neighbouring countries,” Zelensky told a conference marking 50 years since the signing of the “Helsinki Final Act” on respecting borders and territorial integrity.

It came as US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday Washington will impose new sanctions against Moscow if it fails to reach an accord with Kiev to settle the Ukraine conflict within ten days. His initial deadline was due to expire in early September.

Trump announced his plans to reduce the time frame during a visit to the UK on Monday. When further pressed on the issue by journalists on his way back on Tuesday, the president said it would be “ten days from today.”

“And then… we’re going to put on tariffs and stuff,” he added. The new sanctions are expected to include 100% tariffs on Russian imports and secondary sanctions on countries and companies that continue to trade with the nation.

Moscow has repeatedly said it is willing to negotiate but has maintained that any talks must account for the realities on the ground and the root causes of the conflict. Commenting on Trump’s statements on Monday, the Kremlin said his words were “taken into account.”

Russia will still continue its military operation but it also remains “committed to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and to ensure our interests in the course of this settlement,” according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

On Tuesday, Trump admitted that he did not know if the new restrictions were going to work. It “may or may not affect them [Russia],” he said. Since entering office this year, Trump has repeatedly stated he wanted a quick diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict.

Trump has recently grown frustrated with what he described as the lack of progress and spoke about his “disappointment” with Russia, while threatening the country with sanctions.

Moscow responded by calling such actions counterproductive.

No new sanctions would prevent Moscow from continuing to “move along our independent, sovereign, and sustained path,” Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated earlier this month.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said this week it was not up to Washington to “dictate” when Moscow and Kiev should negotiate. Any threat only marks “a step towards war” between Russia and the US, he warned.

Medvedev ‘entering very dangerous territory’: Trump

Trump

Medvedev, now serving as deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, had earlier dismissed the notion that Trump, or any other US official, could dictate Moscow’s stance on the Ukraine conflict. His comments came in response to American calls for Russia to negotiate peace or face tougher sanctions.

Trump fired back on Wednesday in a post on Truth Social, in which he vented frustration over resistance from Russia and India to his international trade agenda. He claimed both countries had “dead economies,” before singling out Medvedev.

“Tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!” Trump wrote.

Medvedev responded, saying the “nervous” reaction by the American leader simply proved that Russia was right in its policy choices and should maintain its course.

Earlier this week, Medvedev responded to remarks by US Senator Lindsey Graham, who warned Russia to comply with Trump’s demands for swift peace talks with Ukraine or face consequences.

Medvedev retorted that “it’s not for you or Trump to dictate when to ‘get at the peace table.’”

Medvedev has criticized what he described as Trump’s “theatrical” ultimatums, warning that such pressure tactics only increase the risk of a direct conflict between the two nuclear powers. “Don’t go down the Sleepy Joe road!” he said, referencing Trump’s mocking nickname for former President Joe Biden.

Russia continues to assert that it will meet all of its military objectives in the Ukraine conflict, whether by force or diplomacy. Officials in Moscow say a negotiated resolution is preferable but currently unfeasible due to what they describe as Kiev’s unreasonable positions and unwillingness to engage in good-faith talks.

Former PSG, Tottenham defender Serge Aurier joins Iran’s Persepolis

The Ivorian international, who also played for Villarreal, Nottingham Forest, and Galatasaray, has had a decorated career, including two Africa Cup of Nations titles with the Ivory Coast.

His signing marks a significant addition to the Tehran-based club as they prepare for the upcoming domestic and continental campaigns.

Aurier had been on trial with Persepolis over the past week during their pre-season training camp in Turkey.

Under the supervision of assistant coach Vahid Hashemian, he underwent a series of fitness and medical evaluations.

He also made a brief appearance in a recent friendly match against Turkish side Igdirspor, impressing the coaching staff enough to finalize a deal.

The 32-year-old brings top-level experience and defensive versatility to Persepolis, who are seeking to reclaim dominance in the Persian Gulf Pro League and make a deeper run in the AFC Champions League.

Club officials are expected to present Aurier formally at a press conference later this week.
