American troops attacked over 118 times in Iraq, Syria since mid-October: Report

US Troops in Syria

The official told Lebanon’s Arabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network on Wednesday that the US troops have been attacked over 118 times, the latest of which was an attack on a US-run military base near al-Khadra village in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of anti-terror fighters, has claimed responsibility for much of the strikes on US military bases in Iraq and Syria, saying they are carried out in retaliation for US support of Israel’s bloody war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The United States, Israel’s biggest ally, has provided the regime with a raft of arms and ammunition since the initiation of the Gaza war.

Washington has also vetoed the United Nations Security Council’s peace resolutions that called on the occupying regime to cease its aggression.

Israel waged the war on Gaza on October 7 after the Strip-based Palestinian resistance groups of Hamas and Islamic Jihad carried out the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm into the occupied territories in response to the occupying regime’s intensified crimes against the Palestinian people.

According to the Gaza-based health ministry, more than 22,100 Palestinians have been killed in the strikes, most of them women and children, and another 57,697 individuals injured.

Tel Aviv has also imposed a “complete siege” on Gaza, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Over 103 killed, scores injured in inblasts in Iranian city of Kerman

The blasts took place on Wednesday while thousands of people had gathered to mark the passing anniversary of the anti-terror commander.

The blasts happened near the martyrs’ burial place in Kerman’s cemetery.

At least 140 people were injured by the blasts and during an ensuing stampede.

Earlier reports said the explosions were caused by gas cylinders, but officials have described the explosions as terror incidents.

Iranians mark 4th martyrdom anniversary of General Soleimani in his hometown

Gen. Soleimani’s hometown and burial site hosted a deluge of the legendary commander’s lovers and followers from all walks of life and various social strata on Wednesday on his fourth martyrdom anniversary.

Kerman’s authorities announced 1,300 distinguished experts and lecturers are to narrate the sacrifices of Gen. Soleimani on the sidelines of his martyrdom anniversary, announcing the convention of 13 discussion forums as well as printing 1,000 volumes of books revolving around his character and school of thought.

The provincial officials also predicted a 30-percent increase in the number of pilgrims and visitors to General Soleimani’s burial site compared to last year.

Gen. Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and their companions were assassinated in a US drone strike authorized by then-US President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Both commanders were highly revered across the Middle East because of their key role in fighting the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

In less than a week after the attack, Iraqi lawmakers approved a bill that required the government to expel all US-led foreign forces from the country.

The IRGC also targeted the US-run Ain al-Asad base in Iraq’s western province of Anbar with a wave of missile attacks in retaliation for the assassination of General Soleimani.

Iran Leader: Gaza resisting against tyrannical world

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks on Wednesday in a meeting with religious eulogists in Tehran.

More than 22,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s raids on Gaza since early October.

Ayatollah Khamenei also said soft power is more effective and pervasive than hard power.
“That is why the United States, despite all the modern weapons it has, makes the most investment in areas such as media, arts, literature and the cinema,” said the Leader.

He touched upon the Americans’ ignominious fleeing from Afghanistan as well as Iraqi people’s deep hatred of the White House, adding, “The United States’ hard power failed to make its presence in those two countries long-lasting and successful, but soft power has enabled groups which seem to be in the minority such as Palestinian people to stay at the center of the world’s attention.”

He said soft power has been Iran’s main strategy over the past 45 years, adding, “We believe in possessing modern arms as required by the country to be able to effectively counter the enemies’ prowess, but also do believe that soft power is more efficacious and should be promoted.”

US quietly reaches deal with Qatar to keep operating largest military base in West Asia

The deal, which has not been announced publicly, highlights Washington’s reliance on the tiny Persian Gulf country that has recently played a central role in mediating the release of Americans from captivity in Gaza and Venezuela.

The Al Udeid Air Base, located in the desert southwest of Doha, is the biggest US military installation in the Middle East and can house more than 10,000 American troops.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin visited Al Udeid last month where he thanked Qatar for their increased spending on the base.

But he made no mention of the renewal and the Joe Biden administration has not publicized it – at a time when Qatar has come under growing scrutiny for hosting senior Hamas leaders. Qatari officials have countered that it was only after a US request during the Barack Obama administration that Hamas was allowed to open a political office in Doha.

The base has been a pivotal hub for the US Central Command’s air operations in or around Afghanistan, Iran and across the Middle East. The Qatari and British Air Forces also operate from the base.

The extension comes as the US has bolstered its presence in the region amid escalating threats from armed groups in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

After Hamas kidnapped some 240 hostages from Israel on October 7, Qatar has been the primary go-between with Hamas to broker the initial release of scores of the Israeli and international hostages. It continues to be central in the talks to try to revive hostage negotiations, coordinating with the CIA and Israel’s Mossad, as well as Egypt.

Their part in the months of negotiations over Americans detained by Venezuela was less public but came to light after President Nicolas Maduro released 10 Americans last month in exchange for a close ally accused by the US of laundering hundreds of millions of dollars.

Qatar’s involvement in both sets of negotiations has been seen as an extension of the mediating role the country has taken on with other US enemies, including Iran and the Taliban. Its vast oil and natural gas wealth, coupled with ability to act as a facilitator, allow Qatar to punch above its weight, analysts say.

While their hosting of Hamas leadership was no secret, the October 7 attack has ignited criticism of Qatar and calls for them to expel Hamas.

President Biden has spoken about his conversations with Qatar’s emir but at times hasn’t given them the credit they feel they deserve. Biden did not mention Qatar in a November op-ed in The Washington Post, while Egypt and other Middle East allies were referenced. Nor did Biden highlight Qatar’s part in the release of the detainees in Venezuela in his official statement.

Thousands of Afghans were flown from Kabul to Al Udeid during the chaotic American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. US military personnel struggled to provide for the massive influx of refugees from what Biden called “one of the largest, most difficult airlifts in history”.

Qatar has committed billions of its own funds upgrade the facilities for US Airmen at the base. Al Udeid became CENTCOM’s main air base in 2003, shifting forces and assets from the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, where the presence of a large number of American military personnel was more sensitive and controversial.

While Austin didn’t announce the extension of the Al Udeid agreement during his visit at the base last month, he did say that the US and Qatar “will formally take steps forward to expand and reinforce our bilateral defense relationship”.

“We’ll do this through Qatar’s commitment to contribute significant resources to increase capabilities here at Al Udeid Air Base, and that will support both of our forces for years to come,” Austin added.

Iran’s defense chief: Hamas leader assassination to backfire on U.S.

Saleh Al Arouri

“The U.S. has upset the regional balance, and the consequences of this assassination will come back to haunt them,” said Brigadier General Mohammadreza Ashtiani.

“With such moves in the region, we will definitely see unity against American policies,” he added.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani also warned against Israeli adventurism in the wake of the attack, saying it once again proved that the Zionist regime is founded on terror and crime.

He held Israel and its supporters directly accountable for the assassination.

The deputy leader of the Palestinian movement Hamas, Saleh al-Arouri, and six other members of the group were assassinated in an Israeli drone attack in southern Beirut on Tuesday.

Hezbollah vows retaliation over Israel’s assassination of senior Hamas leader in Lebanese soil

Hezbollah

“We affirm that this crime will never pass without response and punishment,” the Lebanese armed group said in a statement on Tuesday evening, local time.

“We consider the crime of killing Saleh al-Arouri and his companions in the heart of Beirut’s Dahiyeh a dangerous aggression against Lebanon and its people, security, sovereignty and resistance.”

Hezbollah added that the killing of Arouri, which happened with a drone strike that also killed two commanders of the al-Qassam Brigades, was a “serious assault on Lebanon” and that it has “its finger on the trigger”.

“The criminal enemy – which after ninety days of crime, killing and destruction was unable to subjugate Gaza – is resorting to a policy of assassination,” Hezbollah stressed.

Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that the military is at a “very high level of readiness – in all arenas, in defense and offense”, as Israel braces for retaliation by Hezbollah.

“We are in a high state of readiness for any scenario,” Hagari added, without acknowledging the strike.

Axios reported that Israel is preparing for the firing of long-range ballistic missiles by Hezbollah in response to the assassination.

Tel Aviv has not publicly taken credit for the killing of Arouri. However, two US officials told Axios that Israel was behind the strike.

The officials stressed that Israel did not notify the Joe Biden administration in advance of the attack.

And a senior Israeli official told the news site that it did not give Washington advanced notice of the attack, which comes after the US announced it would be pulling one of its carrier strike groups from the region.

The assassination of Arouri is the latest sign of a wider escalation of the conflict in Gaza extending outside its borders.

On Sunday, the US military killed 10 Houthi fighters, in an incident condemned by the Yemeni group.

Meanwhile, Arouri’s killing could lead to a larger retaliation by Hezbollah against Israel, a move that the Lebanese group has so far avoided as it engages in cross-border attacks.

Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, previously warned that “any assassination on Lebanese soil against a Lebanese, Syrian, Iranian or Palestinian will be met with a decisive response”.

US slams Israel proposal for Gaza ethnic cleansing

Gaza War

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller explicitly rejected recent comments from Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir supporting the mass deportation of Palestinians as “inflammatory and irresponsible”.

Noting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other members of his cabinet have denied that it was official government policy to resettle Gaza’s Palestinian inhabitants, Miller demanded the ministers back away from such rhetoric “immediately.”

“Gaza is Palestinian land and will remain Palestinian land, with Hamas no longer in control of its future and no terror groups able to threaten Israel,” he continued.

On Monday, Ben Gvir described “encouraging the residents of Gaza to emigrate” outside the enclave as “the right, just, moral, and humane solution,” explaining that it would allow Israelis living in border communities to return home.

He doubled down on his comments following Miller’s statement, writing in a post on Telegram, “I greatly appreciate the USA, but with all due respect…we will do what is good for the state of Israel.”

Smotrich made similar comments in an interview with Army Radio on Sunday.

“What needs to be done in the Gaza Strip is to encourage emigration,” he said, adding, “If there are 100,000 or 200,000 Arabs in Gaza and not 2 million Arabs, the entire discussion on the day after [the war] will be totally different.”

While an official with Netanyahu’s office subsequently told the Associated Press that “contrary to false allegations, Israel does not seek to displace the population in Gaza”, instead merely looking to “enable those individuals who wish to leave to do so”, a government document leaked in November called for the mass relocation of all 2.3 million of the territory’s residents to Egypt’s Sinai peninsula – a plan that has alarmed Palestinians and Egyptians alike.

The US State Department has repeatedly called for Gaza to be run by the Palestinian Authority, which currently administers the West Bank and ran Gaza prior to Hamas’ 2007 election victory, as a prelude to full Palestinian statehood. Israel has openly opposed a two-state solution.

At least 1.8 million of Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitants have been displaced since Israel began bombing the territory following Hamas’ October 7 cross-border attack, which left 1,200 Israelis dead. Many residential neighborhoods have been completely flattened, with vital civilian infrastructure such as the hospital system virtually destroyed.

Over 22,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli bombs since the start of the war, according to the enclave’s health ministry, with upwards of 57,000 more seriously injured. Thousands more are reportedly missing beneath the rubble.

Iranians mark National Mother’s Day

Mother Day

It is a joyous occasion as one can see a lot of hustle and bustle on the streets and at shopping centers nationwide which are packed with people buying gifts and flowers for their mothers.

Children still living with their parents go home with their presents as a sign of appreciation for years of dedication and care by their mothers.

And those who are married or live independently go visit their mothers to congratulate them on the one single day named after the most caring, beloved and dedicated human who has ever lived on earth, “The Mother.”

Meanwhile, those who have lost their mothers visit their tombs bringing along flowers or flower pots, offering prayers to their souls.

Needless to say, the mother is the most dedicated and compassionate human being who rekindle the lives of their children with self-sacrifice and kindness.
