President Lauds Iranian Athletes’ Performance in Olympic Games

Rouhani

In a message on Friday, President Rouhani said he could not wait for the competitions to end to praise the Iranian athletes for their glorious presence.

He also hailed Kimia Alizadeh for displaying the Iranian and Islamic culture to the world and proving the Iranian women’s courage and competence.

The president further applauded super heavyweight weightlifter Behdad Salimi for winning the hearts of Iranian people and proving to be a real hero.

Salimi set the world record for the snatch with 216 kg, but his lift in the clean and jerk was deemed to be invalid by the jury panel despite getting three straight white lights from the judges.

The Iranian athletes have so far won three gold and four bronze medals in the games.

Still, freestyle wrestlers, a taekwondo player and a marathon runner from Iran are going to compete in the Olympic Games.

Despite Russian Offer, Iran Has No Plans to Buy S-400: DM

General Dehghan

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Saturday morning, the defense minister said Russia has offered Iran “S-400 and some other systems”, but Tehran has no plans to get them.

As regards the S-300 system, which Moscow had undertaken to sell to Tehran under a 2007 contract, Dehqan said Iran has voluntarily terminated a lawsuit against Russia after the delivery of the missile system to Iran began.

However, he added, Iran preserves the right to legally pursue the case if the full implementation of the deal hits into any snag.

Iran has received the bulk of the S-300 missile system, the minister noted, adding that the remaining parts are expected to be delivered within a month.

Asked about the permission given to Russian warplanes to use an Iranian airbase, Brigadier General Dehqan described that as part of strategic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow endorsed by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

The Russian aircraft fly to the Iranian airbase to be either refueled or get reloaded, the minister explained, saying that they use the base for more effective operation against terrorist groups in Syria.

Dehqan further ruled out any plans for permitting Russian jets to use Iranian bases other than the Nojeh airbase at the moment, but noted that they can keep using the Nojeh airbase as long as necessary.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces since September 2015 has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

Iran has also remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of militancy.

Tajrishi pointed to an excess of around 45% water use in irrigation by the farmers and added, “The water loss has reached the lowest rate through the use of pipelines and facilities in the surrounding areas of Lake Urmia.”

During their 5-hour meeting, Foreign Minister Zarif and his Turkish counterpart held talks on latest regional developments as well as Tehran-Ankara bilateral ties, he added.

Iranian President Congratulates Alizadeh on Olympics Bronze Medal

Rouhani

“My daughter, Kimia! You made the entire nation, especially the Iranian women, happy. I wish you happiness forever,” Rouhani said in a message on his Twitter account.

Alizadeh made Iranian history on Thursday after she won an Olympic bronze medal during the women’s taekwondo competition.

The 18-year-old taekwondo player beat Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden 5-1 in the under-57kg division and won the medal.

Alizadeh became the first ever Iranian woman to win an Olympic medal.

Gold medal went to London gold medallist Jade Jones from Britain who defeated Spaniard Eva Calvo Gomez 16-7.

Iranian Spokesman: Good Ties with Neighbors Tehran’s Top Priority

ghasemi

Speaking on Friday in response to a question about recent positive remarks made by the Kuwaiti parliament speaker on Tehran-Kuwait City relations, Qassemi said, “Undoubtedly, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy priority is having the best relations with neighbors and regional countries.”

Iran and all of its neighboring countries have numerous capacities to boost cooperation in line with the policy of “good neighborliness, political partnership economic development and the fight against common threats”.

Based on its unchanging and principled policy, Iran will be always after stability, security and the progress of its neighboring nations, he noted.

In an interview with Qatari daily Al Sharq published on Wednesday, Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim had said that “Kuwait and all (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council ([P]GCC) states are willing to create a calm atmosphere and to enjoy good neighborly relations with Iran.”

He added that all the countries and Iran are equal partners in this region.

No Limits on Range, Accuracy of Iran’s Missiles: DM

General Dehghan

“Our missiles have the highest destructive power and enjoy high accuracy, durability and reliable tactical status, and we face no limitation on the range, accuracy and quality of the products,” the senior general said in address to Friday prayers worshippers in Tehran.

He also underlined that Iran has gained such high level of defense power that it can combat any threat against the nation.

By employing local experts, Iran’s defense industry is capable of fulfilling demands for all military equipment, he added.

As regards Iran’s progress in the space sphere, the minister pointed to the launch of satellites as heavy as 500kg into the orbit, which he said would satisfy local needs for positioning data.

He further reaffirmed Iran’s support for its allies, saying the anti-Israel axis of resistance fulfills the bulk of its needs using Iran’s defense capabilities.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

In late March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underscored the need for boosting Iran’s defense capabilities, warning that enemies are making use of every tool available to undermine the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei said at the time that if the Islamic establishment seeks technology and negotiations but lacks defense might, it will have to buckle in the face of any weak country posing threats.

In March, the IRGC test-fired two types of Qadr ballistic missiles during the large-scale drills, codenamed “Might of Velayat”.

The two ballistic missiles, Qadr-H and Qadr-F, were launched from the heights of East Alborz Mountains, north of Iran, and hit targets on the Makran coasts, southeast of the country.
