Iranian Administration Seriously Pursuing Mina Tragedy Case: Spokesman

Iran to Exclude Oil Revenues from Its Income Basket

Speaking at a weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said the administration has ordered the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs to do whatever necessary to satisfy the families of the Mina tragedy victims.

He also voiced the Management and Planning Organization’s readiness to provide the budget and resources needed to handle the issue.

Nobakht also underlined that Iran has taken any possible measure to deal with the Mina case in spite of Saudi Arabia’s move to sever diplomatic ties with Iran.

Last week, President Hassan Rouhani also emphasized that his administration will press ahead with legal and political measures to restore the country’s rights in connection with the fatal crush of Hajj pilgrims.

The government will not forget about the blood of the Iranian martyrs shed in Mina, the president said, stressing that legal and political steps will continue to be taken on the matter.

During last year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia, 7,000 pilgrims were killed, 477 of whom were Iranians. 12 Iranians were killed in a crane collapse in Mecca, while 465 others lost their lives in Mina.

Iran’s Judiciary Official in Italy for Talks

mohammad-javad-larijani

Heading a high-ranking delegation of Iranian judicial and human rights officials, Larijani is planned to hold meetings with a number of senior Italian authorities during the visit.

The trip is part of plans to boost cooperation with other countries on judicial and human rights issues, according to the Iranian Judiciary’s Human Rights Council.

Larijani is also expected to provide a general description of Iran’s Judiciary system and a comparison of it with Italy’s judicial structure.

These negotiations between Iran and Italy began two years ago. In November 2014, a conference was held on Italy’s Sicily island, titled “Protection of Human Rights in Iran and Italy’s Criminal Justice System”.

Back in August, Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani proposed that the Islamic Republic and Europe can begin discussions about human rights, provided that Iran would also have the chance to question the shortcomings of Europeans regarding human rights.

‘China May Build Iran’s 4th Nuclear Plant’

Ali Akbar Salehi has told Kyodo News that Chinese companies had visited a new site for the construction of Iran’s fourth nuclear power plant on the Gulf of Oman and offered financial support.

“Iran’s fourth power plant that we are going to build will be located in the Makran region of southern Iran. Chinese have already visited that region for site selection, but we have not come yet to a final agreement,” the news agency on Monday quoted him as saying.

Iran plans to build 20 nuclear power plants to produce 20,000 megawatts of electricity as the country is seeking to reduce its reliance on oil and gas. On Saturday, the country began constructing two new facilities with Russian help.

Salehi said some European countries, which he did not name, have started initial talks with Iran about participation in the projects but no agreements have been reached yet.

The Islamic Republic is also ready to consider any proposal from Japan along with “lucrative commercial support” but the issue has not been raised by either side, he said.

“Of course if we receive any suggestion or any proposal from Japan that would sound very interesting to us, we would certainly be ready to enter negotiation in that domain,” Salehi said, according to Kyodo.

“Japan is a very cautious country so we have to wait until things evolve. So we are not in a hurry. Whenever the Japanese are ready, we are ready,” he added.

Iran already runs its first nuclear power plant in Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, which joined the nationwide grid in 2012 with a 1,000-megawatt capacity.

Russian state-owned company Rosatom started the construction of Bushehr-2 on Saturday in a plan worth $10 billion. The 10-year project will include two power plants each with a capacity to generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity.

The project is part of a deal signed with Russia in 2014 to build eight new nuclear power plants in the Islamic Republic.

When these two units become operational, 11 million barrels of oil will be saved per year and emission of seven million tonnes of greenhouse gas will be avoided,” project manager Mahmoud Jafari told the ground-breaking ceremony.

dbcb024d-deea-400f-81ed-0c339c072974Iran has been pushing to join the international nuclear market since reaching a nuclear accord with the West and other countries last year.

The agreement led to Iran’s sale of 32 tonnes of heavy water to the United States, with negotiations underway for similar contracts with Germany, France and Russia.

Salehi said Iran is also ready to sell part of its heavy water stockpiles to Japan, Kyodo reported.

The two countries have already been exchanging experts to increase the level of security and safety at Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Salehi said Japan has expressed interest in setting up a “center of excellence” in Iran on safety issues along the European Union.

“So there may be a trilateral cooperation between Iran, the EU and Japan in this matter,” he said.

According to the Iranian official, there is still scope for Iran and Japan to expand their cooperation, specifically the training of Iranian experts in the so-called “3S’s” — namely safeguards, safety and security — a topic that the European Union is also interested in.

“Everything is going well in this domain,” he said.

ISIS Terrorists Afraid of Letter ‘M’

The source in the ISIS-held Mosul, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Al Sumaria News that unknown individuals have sprayed the Arabic letter ‘M’ on the wall of the house belonging to an ISIS commander named Abu al-Qa’qa’ in eastern Mosul.

“This has made ISIS terrorists terrified,” the source said, as reported by Al Alam News Network and translated by IFP.

“A group of people in Mosul have started assassinating ISIS members. The ISIS terrorists fear that the same group has written the letter ‘M’ on Abu al-Qa’qa’s house door, and he will be killed in the near future.”

The source said the popular groups are called ‘Mosul Brigades’ and write the Arabic letter which sounds like ‘M’ on the walls and houses of ISIS elements.

“The letter ‘M’ is the first letter of the Arabic word ‘Muqawamah’ or ‘Resistance’,” it added.

ISIS terrorists are extremely worried about the growing number of such moves, and fear that their rule is ended by popular forces and the Iraqi army, the source noted.

Anti-ISIS moves have increased in Nineveh province, and the ISIS elements have been executing people publicly to intimidate the citizens.

On the other hand, the Iraqi army is progressing towards Mosul. Many ISIS commanders have been killed so far in the ongoing operations by Iraqi forces.

Iranian Deputy FM in Moscow for Talks on Syria

Hossein Jaberi Ansari, who left Tehran for Moscow on Monday afternoon, will hold a meeting with Bogdanov, the Russian President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, to discuss the latest developments in Syria, particularly the events following the nationwide ceasefire, brokered by Russia and the US, that went into effect on Monday and is expected to hold for the next five days.

The two sides will also exchange views on other regional developments and issues of mutual interest, Mehr reported.

Iran and Russia, as two countries with a strategy for combating terrorism in Syria and settling the country’s issues through nationwide dialogue under the UN supervision, have been holding regular consultations for finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

AEOI Chief Arrives in Belgium for Nuclear Talks

Ali Akbar Salehi

Heading a delegation, the AEOI chief left Tehran for Brussels, which also hosts the EU headquarters, on Monday at the invitation of the bloc’s Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete and Belgian officials.

Salehi, who is a vice president and a senior member of the Iranian team negotiating with six global powers, plans to meet Cañete, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Didier Reynders and a number of other EU and Belgian authorities.

The sides will discuss Iran’s cooperation with the EU and Belgium, particularly on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

They are also likely to agree or sign documents for the expansion of cooperation.

Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council – the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China – plus Germany signed the nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on July 14, 2015.

Under the JCPOA, which took effect in January, Iran undertook to put limitations on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Tehran.

Since the JCPOA implementation, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has released regular reports confirming the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities and Tehran’s commitment to the agreement.

In April, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano hailed Iran for respecting the nuclear accord, saying the Islamic Republic has even gone beyond its obligations.

Iran “is implementing not just its safeguards agreement with the Agency, but also its Additional Protocol” to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which allows for snap inspection of nuclear facilities, said Amano.

Political Dialogue Can Settle Mideast Issues: Rouhani

Rouhani

“Regional issues must be solved by regional countries and only through political dialogue and understanding,” Rouhani said in a phone conversation with Qatari Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, on Monday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort in establishing and promoting such a process and everyone must make efforts in this area,” the Iranian president added.

He pointed to the spread of extremism, violence and terrorism in the region and expressed regret that “the region is not in a good state.”

“We are all duty-bound to save Muslims from [the threat] of terrorism and to make efforts to establish stability in the region and reinforce fraternity among Muslims,” the Iranian president pointed out.

Rouhani extended his congratulations to the Qatari emir on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice).

The Qatari emir, for his part, said Tehran and Doha have always maintained cordial and deep-rooted relations and added that his country welcomes the expansion of ties with Iran in all fields.

He said Tehran and Doha must make use of their relations to solve complicated and difficult problems in the region and added that the Islamic Republic plays a leading role in regional developments which will also serve Qatar’s interests.

Thani stressed the importance of improving dialogue between Iran and the Persian Gulf littoral states, saying the existing problems must be settled by regional states and not foreign powers.

He added that interaction among countries in the region would undoubtedly serve the interests of regional people who are going through tough times in fighting terrorism.

The Qatari emir congratulated the Iranian president and nation on Eid al-Adha.

Iran Denies Reports of Ayatollah Khamenei’s Fatwa on Hajj, Karbala Pilgrimage

139404211131476645681604

In a statement on Monday, Iran’s interests section in Cairo denied the stories about Ayatollah Khamenei’s fatwa on the performance of Hajj rituals by one million Iranians in Iraq’s holy Shiite sites, including the shrine of the third Shiite imam, Imam Hussein (AS), in the city of Karbala.

Reacting to a statement by Al-Azhar University and the media reports, the diplomatic mission dismissed the reports as “untrue, fabricated and defamatory”, saying such a decree has never been issued, either this year or in the past.

It came after Saudi-affiliated media outlets spread rumors that Iranian pilgrims, barred from Mecca amid escalating conflicts between Tehran and Riyadh, have come up with a “holy plan B” to substitute Karbala pilgrimage for Hajj.

139504291103317148165394The Iranian interests section explained that visiting the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) on the Day of Arafah is deemed a very honorable action by Muslims.

The diplomatic mission then highlighted Iran’s “technical and non-political” efforts to dispatch the nationals to this year’s hajj pilgrimage, denouncing the Riyadh regime for its political attitude towards Hajj, resorting to media hue and cry, trying to put the blame on Iran and shirking responsibility for the religious event.

The statement also referred to Saudi Arabia’s “incompetence, failure, and obstructionism” as the main reasons behind the absence of Iranian pilgrims in this year’s Hajj.

More than 460 Iranians were among some 7,000 pilgrims who died on September 24, 2015, in a crush of people in Mina, near Mecca, during last year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

139407051306186346182084The incident marked the worst ever tragedy during Hajj.

This year, Saudi Arabia barred all Iranians from making Hajj pilgrimage.

Tensions ran high between Tehran and Riyadh after Saudi Arabia’s execution of prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, and a subsequent attack by outraged Iranian protesters on the Saudi embassy in Tehran, which resulted in the Arab country’s decision to sever its ties with the Islamic Republic.
