Iranian Official Raps US Role in Saudi Attack on Funeral in Yemen

shamkhani

The Yemeni people at the funeral ceremony were bombed with American delivered to the “aggressive Saudi army”, Shamkhani said in a statement on Sunday, stressing that the US is an accomplice in the crime and should be held accountable for it.

“Sales of arms to Saudi Arabia and the (United Arab) Emirates play a key factor in the military aggression against Yemen and the killing of innocent Yemenis, and the West should stop it,” he added, saying the Western public opinion should realize what role their governments are playing in the continuation of the war on Yemen.

On Saturday, Saudi-led warplanes targeted a crowded funeral ceremony in Sana’a, killing over 140 people and injuring more than 530 others.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to UN estimates, over 10,000 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the military campaign.

UN Secretary General Condemns Saudi Attack on Funeral in Yemen

Yemen

“The Secretary-General condemns the attack on an event hall in Sana’a where hundreds of people were gathered for a funeral ceremony,” the statement read.

“Initial reports indicate that the attack, said to have been airstrikes by the Coalition, killed over 140 people and injured hundreds of others… The Secretary-General notes that any deliberate attack against civilians is utterly unacceptable and calls for a prompt and impartial investigation of this incident. Those responsible for the attack must be brought to justice,” it added, as reported by Tasnim.

According to the UN estimates, the attack claimed over 140 lives and left more than 534 people wounded.

The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Yemen, Jamie McGoldrick, said on Sunday, the world body’s relief mission in Yemen was “shocked and outraged” by the deadly assault in Saudi Air strike against a hell in Sana`a

He also called for an immediate probe into the incident and said the international community must exert pressure to ensure civilians are protected in Yemen

“This violence against civilians in Yemen must stop immediately,” he added, as reported by Yemeni sources.

UN relief chief Stephen O’Brien also demanded a prompt and “impartial” probe into the incident, saying, “This horrendous and heinous attack displayed an utter disregard for human life.

Riyadh’s key ally Washington warned it had launched an “immediate review” of support to the Arab coalition.

“We are deeply disturbed by reports of today’s air strike on a funeral hall in Yemen, which, if confirmed, would continue the troubling series of attacks striking Yemeni civilians,” White House National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.

“In light of this and other recent incidents, we have initiated an immediate review of our already significantly reduced support to the Saudi-led coalition and are prepared to adjust our support so as to better align with US principles, values and interests.”

Price stressed that “US security cooperation with Saudi Arabia is not a blank cheque”, and called on all sides to implement an “immediate” ceasefire, AFP reported.

Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between forces allied with fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and Houthis since 2014. Since March 2015, the Saudi-led coalition of mostly Persian Gulf countries has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at the request of Hadi.

Iran Condemns Saudis’ Deadly Attack on Civilians in Yemen

Warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition targeted a crowded funeral ceremony in Sana’a and killed at least 100 people, media reports said on Saturday.

At least nine airstrikes were conducted by Saudi jets on Khamis street in southern Sana’a. The building where the event was underway was seriously damaged in the attacks.

Over 500 people have reportedly been injured but the number of casualties is highly likely to rise.

The funeral was for the father of Jalal al-Roweishan, the interior minister in the Yemeni government.

The Iranian spokesman deplored “the Saudi crimes against humanity” in Yemen, and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims.

Pointing to one and half year of violence and aggression against Yemeni resisting people, Qassemi blasted the silence shown by the international community about the issue.

He also called for an immediate end to the Saudi aggression against Yemen and the start of serious talks among all Yemeni parties in a bid to end the crisis in Yemen.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha received the Iranian president in a formal welcome ceremony, followed by a meeting of high-ranking delegations.

Heading a political and business team, the Iranian president embarked on a tour of Southeast Asia on Wednesday that took him earlier to Vietnam and Malaysia.

In Thailand, President Rouhani is going to deliver a speech at the ACD summit and meet foreign leaders on the sidelines of the conference.

The president has announced earlier that Iran, which has been a member of ACD for 12 years, is pursuing stronger cooperation among the Asian countries to consolidate Asia’s position as a major trade partner among the other economic powers.

The summit, entitled “One Asia, Diverse Strength”, is held on October 8-10. Currently, ACD comprises 34 countries, including Iran, China, India, Japan, Russia and Turkey.

Iranian Architecture Shines in Eastern Europe

Mehr Khaneh is a project located at Ostrovskovo Street in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. Solmaz Fooladi, Nima Keivani and Sina Keivani are three Iranian architects in charge of the project.

In an interview with Mehr News Agency, as translated by IFP, Nima Keivani said, “In this quote modern project, we have adopted a different approach towards Iranian culture and architecture. In designing this project, we have benefited from symbols used in ancient Persia and Mithraism culture and religion, particularly the Sun as a significant symbol.”

The young architect noted that this is the first time in Europe that a building is built using Iranian symbols in its design, construction, and interior decorations.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Keivani referred to the budget constraints and said, “We had to create minimal, cheap, artistic and Iranian spaces derived from the religion of Mithraism. Therefore, we picked Loft architectural style for our design using exposed concrete, rebar and oxidized iron to design the space; meanwhile, we tried to bring good sense and heat into the residential space by using materials such as brick, wood and light.”

Mehr Khaneh

He added that one of the basic items in Mehr Khaneh design is the stairs in the living room.

“These stairs can be seen as a philosophical element in the design of this project. They are inspired by mehrabs and ziggurats and are signs of perfection and climbing higher and closer to the Sun.”

He also referred to the use of lustres, plants and geometric shapes at the kitchens in traditional architecture.

“Sun is the symbol of light, and light is the symbol of knowledge and wisdom. This design is a symbol of approaching to sun and advancing to knowledge essential for improvement and actualization of thoughts for an artist. The direction and raise of stairs are toward east and sunrise,” he went on to say.

Mehr Khaneh

“The design of lighting fixtures is also inspired by the symbolic role of Sun, and it follows the geometric symbol of sun, which a triangle surrounded by a dodecagon, used in traditional Iranian architecture. In a part of ceiling the triangular and pyramidal shapes are used such that they are such as the extensions of the light radiation that pass through the roof and shines inside such that no barrier _even a concrete wall- cannot prevent the knowledge and wisdom.”

“The ancient sun pattern was used as a light frame in this unit. The furniture is designed in accord with the aforementioned concepts, realized by using materials such as concrete, rebar, and metals. Not only we applied this concept to the interior design of kitchen for consistency, we also used turquoise tiles in this space to inspire the sense of place (Genius loci) that emerges in the Iranian traditional architecture.”

“Considering the role of plants in traditional Iranian architecture, planting components have been placed in different parts of this unit, for example, in the kitchen, as hanging components,” Keivani added.

“In the space right in front of the kitchen, wooden materials are used to create beautiful scenery with the special daylight available at sunset.”

A statement by Yemen’s Health Ministry says at least 144 people were killed in the assaults. The Saudi jets conducted at least nine airstrikes on Khamis street in southern Sana’a. The building where the event was underway was seriously damaged in the attacks.

The number of casualties is highly likely to rise. Over 527 people have  been injured, as reported by Entekhab and translated by IFP.

The funeral was for the father of Jalal al-Roweishan, the interior minister in the Yemeni government, Press TV reported.

Yemen’s al-Masirah television said hospitals in the capital were desperately in need of blood donations.

Saudi Airstrike on Yemeni Funeral Kills 144, Wounds 527

In September last year, Saudi jets bombarded a wedding ceremony in the town of Mokha in the southwestern province of Ta’izz, killing over 130 civilians. The victims were mostly women and children.

Saudi Arabia has been engaged in a deadly campaign against Yemen since March 2015. Riyadh’s aggression, which has killed more than 10,000 in Yemen, was launched in an attempt to restore power to Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh who has resigned as Yemen’s president but seeks to force his way back into power. The campaign also seeks to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

Ansarullah’s Reaction

The Houthis reacted to the airstrikes, with spokesman Mohammad Abdulsalam strongly denouncing the deadly onslaught.

Yemeni fighters will take revenge on the “ruthless thugs” of Saudi Arabia, the Houthi spokesman said. “Bloodshed is only followed by more bloodshed.”

He also held the United Nations responsible for the massacre over its silence toward the deadly Saudi raids that have become regular.

Abdulsalam also slammed the international community for turning a blind eye to the Saudi aggression against Yemen, which has so far paved the way for the regime in Riyadh to further destroy the impoverished country with US-made weapons.

The Ansarullah official called on Yemeni forces and fighters from the Popular Committees to intensify attacks against Saudi targets.

Iran to Revise Capital Punishment in Near Future: Official

Execution

Mohammad Javad Larijani, the Iranian Judiciary official who is in Brazil on an official visit, sat in an interview with the country’s famous newspaper O Estado de São Paulo on Friday, October 7.

In this interview, diverse issues such as human rights and Iran’s execution of major drug traffickers were covered. The Brazilian daily described Larijani as a figure who advocates reforms into the Judiciary laws;

“Mohammad Javad Larijani supports reforms to Iranian laws and believes that in seven months, the number of executions could drastically fall; however, he rejects criticism levelled by the west on Iran’s human rights conditions, contending that western lifestyle and values should not be imposed on Iranians,” wrote the daily, as reported by Mehr and edited by IFP.

“Democracy is the foremost human achievement; the major guiding principle should be respecting diversity; we do not think universality should entail imposing other values and cultures on civilizations and cultures quite different in ontology; Americans, Germans, and French should not assume that the only way of life is what they live in their countries; the second issue is how not to politicize the issue; the US and EU would criticize Iran, but turn a blind eye on countries where ballot boxes and democracy have no place, and where women are nothing; the same violations of human rights however would not be causes for them to raise an eyebrow,” Larijani told the daily.

On hot issue of giving lighter sentences to convicts of drug smuggling, especially decreasing the number of executions, Larijani defended the trend as legal; however he displayed an abhorrence of the capital punishment in general; “93 per cent of the executions is related to drug convicts; I personally advocate reforms into laws, but do not believe that there should be a permanent halt in executions; we have 800km of border with Afghanistan, where the growing of opium spiked to 40 times that before the invasion of NATO. The EU and the US are the major destinations of the Afghan opium and the money is recycled back to terrorist activities in the country; the situation could not continue forever,” he emphasized.

“Drug smugglers are not ordinary citizens; rather, they belong to an intricate network of armed cartels; Iran spends an annual amount of $ 200m in fighting these cartels; time now has come when Iran should not fight these cartels alone; we should bolster fight through receiving aid from international bodies to modernize facilities; a second issue is review of laws; the execution should be limited to the major leaders of a gang; this will immediately decrease the number of executions, which is on agenda, “ Judiciary official told the interviewer.

“This is a tactical shift and we will still be in the forefront of fight against drugs; however, procedures to change the law would take some time which should be respected; I think reviews could be made within 6 or 7 months; with presidential elections in May, we should avoid making the issue as a campaign trail debates,” Larijani told the daily.

UAE Official Urges Arab Leaders: Let Zionists Have Their Own State!

dhahi-khalfan-tamim-500

According to a report by IRNA, as translated by IFP, General Dhahi Khalfan in his recent tweet addressed the Arab world and said, “Let’s be realistic, you Arab nations possess 22 or 23 countries in the region, whereas you do not want Jews to have a State for their own! You are really an evil, I feel upset when I see a Muslim insults a Jew.”

Referring to the pivotal role of Arab world, Khalfan went on to say that the Jewish community is so creative, intelligent, wise and perfect, and deserves to have their own country among Arab nations as they are our eternal cousins after all!

Opposing the theory of two independent states in the occupied territories, he said, “A state with a Palestinian leader will suffice; [Israeli PM Benjamin] Netanyahu is the last obstacle to the world peace; we have lived along our Jewish cousins from the beginning with many beliefs and thoughts in common. The whole land of Palestine is not ours; we only possess the lands that fall within the borders of 1948.”

He further noted, “Believe me, forming a common state for Arabs and Jews is the ideal solution. I pray to God that the two-state solution fails because the best possible solution for the Palestinian issue is forming a common state between Jews and Arabs.”

The Deputy Police Chief of Dubai also stated, “Everyone knows that Jews used to live in the Arab lands since the time of Prophet Abraham, so why do you deny it now?

He also noted that Netanyahu is the last Israeli criminal after whom Israeli intellectuals will come to power and the world will witness peace and security.

Iranian General Slams US Democrats’ Hypocrisy in Election Campaign

Major General Hassan Firouzabadi, senior military adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, said Democrats are fueling conflicts in Iraq and Syria in order to cover up their failed tactics over the past years and portray them as an active policy to deceive American voters.

The democrats, who have been pledging victory against terrorists in Syria and Iraq for years, have turned the tide of war in terrorists’ favor, the senior general deplored.

The top officer also slammed the US for bombing the Syrian Army and voluntary forces in Syria and killing Sunni voluntary forces in Iraq, saying such bloodshed has been misrepresented as counterterrorism efforts ahead of the US presidential election.

Major General Firouzabadi also cautioned the American people against their politicians’ deceitful conducts, stressing that the American taxpayer bears the cost of such acts of violence and bloodshed.

Washington’s belligerent policies are of no benefit to the American people and are adopted by order of the Zionists, who have occupied Palestine, and by Saudi Wahhabists’ provocations.

While the US presidential election of 2016 is scheduled for November 8, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump defend their respective party platforms on Middle East issues.
