rosneft

According to a report by Maritime Executive, as covered by IRNA, the tests by Rosneft were conducted in cooperation with the Arctic Science Center and the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) and involved icebergs of different shapes and sizes under various weather conditions.

With the help of the icebreaker Kapitan Dranitsyn and the research vessel Akademik Treshnikov, the researchers were able to turn and tow the icebergs through 90 to 180 degrees from their original path. They also managed to pull away two icebergs in a single operation.

The tests were conducted in the Kara Sea and are designed to help protect marine infrastructure such as oil and gas platforms on the Arctic shelf from interaction with icebergs.

As part of the expedition, the scientists also studied local weather, geology and the glaciers of Novaya Zemlya, Severnaya Zemlya, De Long Islands and Franz Josef Land with the aim of determining the characteristics of icebergs in the region.

Minister: Iran’s Gas Extraction from Joint Field to Be on Par with Qatar

Zanganeh

Iran is catching up with Qatar and has plans to extract the same amount of gas from South Pars after finishing the remaining work at 5 phases of the field by March 2017, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh announced.

According to the minister, Iran’s crude production will also hit 4 million barrels a day at the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2017).

The Oil Ministry says completion of the new phases of South Pars will raise the country’s extraction of gas by 100 million cubic meters, making that equal to Qatar’s extraction from the joint field.

The South Pars gas field is one of the largest gas reservoirs in the world lying on the territorial border between Iran and the Persian Gulf state of Qatar. It is one of Iran’s main energy resources.

This gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.

Kerry’s Remarks about JCPOA Are Absolutely Wrong: Iran

In a recent interview with the Foreign Affairs, John Kerry said that “Iran is engaged in Yemen and supporting Assad and supporting Hezbollah and firing missiles that people deem to be threatening and so forth.”

He said such stances hugely complicates efforts to move forward rapidly with regard to the nuclear deal implementation and the removal of barriers to business.

In reaction, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said, “John Kerry’s remarks are nothing but an excuse for the US to avoid carrying out its JCPOA commitments.”

Araqchi, who is also the head of the JCPOA follow-up committee, stressed that Kerry’s remarks are “absolutely wrong and incorrect” as the US must grant Tehran access to financial, banking, technology and commerce markets according to its commitments stipulated in the JCPOA.

“In the JCPOA, they accepted to avoid carrying out any action which would hinder the normalization of commercial and banking ties with Iran,” he said, as reported by Press TV.

Araqchi went on to note that the US must refrain from using excuses for hindrances in JCPOA’s implementation, and they are by no means acceptable to Iran.

Iran and world powers signed the nuclear deal, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on July 2015. The deal went into effect on January 16, 2016, and resolved a long-running dispute over the Iranian nuclear program.

Under the JCPOA, the Islamic Republic has agreed to roll back certain aspects of its nuclear program — including the volume of its uranium stockpiles enriched to the 20-percent level — and has provided international atomic monitors enhanced access to its nuclear facilities. In return, Iran’s partners agreed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.

According to a report by Sputnik, as covered by ISNA, the anti-ISIS forces conducted an airstrike on Mosul during a meeting of the commanders of the terrorist organization ISIS. In attendance was ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who is constantly changing his location in Iraq and Syria. At the last moment, he managed to escape.

The ISIS terrorist group’s ringleader Baghdadi escaped the airstrike in the Iraqi campaign to liberate the northern city of Mosul minutes ahead of an attack, local security sources told Sputnik on Monday.

“Baghdadi escaped at the last moment from the airstrike on a meeting among commanders in Mosul,” the sources said without clarifying whether the strike was conducted by Iraqi forces or the US-led coalition.

Al-Baghdadi’s movements are known only by his inner circle, with the leader constantly changing location in Iraq and Syria to avoid airstrikes.

ISIS Cuts Off People’s Access to Internet in Mosul

According to a report by ISNA, as translated by IFP, Wathiq al-Hamdani, the Police Chief of Nineveh Province, said that ISIS has completely blocked people’s access to the Internet in a move to isolate the Mosul residents and keep them away from the outside world.

The terrorist group, he said, had already restricted the use of Internet since two months ago, and people were only allowed to use the Internet in special offices monitored by ISIS.

However, Hamdani told Erem News, even these offices are now shut down because of alleged risk of data leakage.

The Internet blackout comes as Iraqi forces continue advancing towards the city, hoping to ultimately liberate it from the extremists.

According to Iraq’s al-Sumaria news website, the Iraqi security forces have reached the outskirts of the town of Hamdaniya, southeast of Mosul. The terrorists reportedly suffered heavy losses and causalities in the Iraqi operations.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Sunday, the visiting African diplomat pointed to the abundant opportunities for mutual cooperation, saying Iran could become Ivory Coast’s “key partner” in energy.

Hailing Iran as a great political and economic power, Mabri said the two countries can launch cooperation in the fight against terrorism and narcotics smuggling as well.

For his part, Zarif called for continued coordination between Tehran and Yamoussoukro in the international organizations.

The Ivorian foreign minister is in Tehran as the invitation of his Iranian counterpart.

Located in West Africa, Ivory Coast in an energy-rich nation. In recent years, it has been an important supplier of energy to the sub-Saharan region due to its reserves of natural gas, excess electrical generating capacity, and offshore oil and gas fields.

Offshore oil was discovered in Ivory Coast in 1977, while crude production started three years later.

According to a report by Al Alam, as translated by IFP, a local source in Nineveh Province told Al Sumaria News that ISIS commanders used bullhorns to ask their elements in Mosul to leave the city, especially the western parts, on Sunday night.

“ISIS says the call for withdrawal is because of the ‘hypocrisy’ among Mosul residents.”

“The person who read aloud the ISIS’ statement referred to the attacks launched on the terrorist group from inside the city and described Mosul as the city of hypocrisy.”

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, went on to say that the ISIS is using the term ‘hypocrisy’ as a pretext for escaping the city, which is going to be liberated by Iraqi army.

Many of ISIS terrorists, the source said, have already decided to flee from the city together with their families in fear of the operation to liberate the city.

The Iraqi army launched an offensive Sunday aimed at wresting Mosul from the hands of ISIS and ending its brutal two-year occupation.

“The time has come for the greatest victory,” Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced late Sunday on state TV. “I announce the start of Liberating Mosul Operation, by the will of Iraqis, and after depending on Allah.”

Commander Hits Back at Kerry for Anti-Iran Allegations

In comments on Sunday, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri likened the US to a cancerous tumor in the Middle East, saying the sole remedy to the regional woes would be expelling American forces from the region.

Reacting to John Kerry’s remarks about Iran’s so-called unconstructive role in the region, Jazayeri said such spiteful comments do not solve the White House’s problems.

In a recent interview with the Foreign Affairs, Kerry accused Iran of engagement in “Yemen and supporting Assad and supporting Hezbollah and firing missiles that people deem to be threatening.” He also expressed the hope that “Iran will rejoin the community of nations in constructive ways to try to make the region more stable and bring peace to places that need it.”

In reaction, General Jazayeri said the bloody wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen, the continued occupation of Palestine by Zionists, the Iraqi imposed war on Iran in the 1980s, the conflicts in Lebanon and Bahrain, and many other crises that have left thousands of people killed and injured are only part of the results of policies adopted by the US evil government toward the region.

The only way for the US to get out of the impasse in the Middle East is to admit its “strategic mistakes and accept responsibility for thousands of criminal acts” in the region, leave Southwest Asia and rid the regional nations of its devilish presence, the commander concluded.

Abadi has on multiple occasions asserted that all troops participating in the Mosul offensive are from Iraq, and no foreigners would be among them, adding that the US-led coalition would only support the operation.

US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said that the Mosul operations were a key move in defeating the Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

“This is a decisive moment in the campaign to deliver Daesh a lasting defeat,” said Carter in a statement. “We are confident our Iraqi partners will prevail against our common enemy and free Mosul and the rest of Iraq from Daesh’s hatred and brutality.”

Over the last few months, Iraq has been preparing for the assault on Daesh in Mosul, which slipped into the hands of the terrorists in the summer of 2014. Government forces have managed to recapture all the other places that Daesh had seized, with the last major one being the city of Fallujah, which was liberated in late June.

Violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh launched its offensive in June 2014, and seized territory. Iraqi army soldiers and fighters from allied Popular Mobilization Units are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.
