Iran Supports Measures Aimed at Stabilizing Oil Market: Rouhani

Rouhani and Madoru

“Iran supports any measure in line with the stabilization of the oil market, fair prices and equitable quota for the producers,” Rouhani said in a meeting with visiting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Tehran on Saturday.

Rouhani further underlined the necessity of coordination and cooperation among all OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers in this regard.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani said that Latin America has a special place in Tehran’s foreign policy.

He expressed satisfaction with the expansion of relations between Iran and Venezuela, saying the development of cooperation with Latin American countries has always been of high significance to Iran.

The Iranian chief executive also touched upon the scourge of terrorism in the world and called for a collective campaign by all countries against the ominous phenomenon.

He criticized certain countries for using terrorist groups as an instrument to achieve their goals.

Maduro, for his turn, said his country was determined to expand all-out cooperation with Iran.

He said that his government backs consultation between Tehran and Caracas to accelerate the implementation of agreements signed between the two sides.

Oil-exporting countries have been seeking a deal to cap production levels in an attempt to prevent a further drop in global oil prices, which in recent years saw a fall from a high of 147 dollars a barrel to a low of around 25 dollars.

However, Saudi Arabia has torpedoed plans for a freeze on global production aimed at stabilizing oil markets, arguing that Iran must freeze its output.

Tehran, meanwhile, says that it wants to raise production to levels prior to the imposition of the US-led sanctions over its nuclear energy program.

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry Disqualifies 35 Dual Nationals from Working in Government Positions

naghavi

Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, the Spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, announced that Intelligence Minister Seyyed Mahmoud Alavi has recently briefed MPs on certain reports about the use of dual nationals in government positions.

“The Minister declared that the Ministry is strongly sensitive about the issue of government executives with dual nationality, and will disqualify whoever holds a nationality other than Iran’s,” he said, as reported by ICANA and translated by IFP.

“Based on the report Alavi gave to the Iranian Parliament, 79 individuals were suspected to be dual nationals; however, precise examinations revealed that 35 hold dual nationalities, and the relevant organizations [who wanted to hire these people] were informed of the issue.”

This does not necessarily mean these 35 have been dismissed from their positions or barred from those jobs, Naqavi Hosseini said, adding, however, that the Minister said the disqualification has led to the dismissal in many cases.

Legal Confrontation with Dual Nationality

In order to eliminate the existing legal vacuums, a joint commission has been formed to investigate a bill amending citizenship laws, Naqavi Hossein had noted a few days ago.

“In recent months, several meetings have been held in the Iranian Parliament’s Foreign Policy and National Security Commission on the issue of dual nationality; we even held special meetings with Intelligence Minister Alavi to address this issue.”

The MP went on to say that “after a meticulous investigation on the roots of dual nationality issue, it became clear that there lays a legal vacuum in this issue; thus our primary step should focus on removing the existing problems and shortcomings.”

Stating that these legal vacuums prepare the ground for dual nationality to happen, Naghavi Hosseini asserted that “the Parliament is very sensitive on the issue and definitely will take necessary measures to encounter the gaps.”

The MP further pointed out, “The commission is to hold a session with the participation of some other commissions and five members of the Foreign Policy and National Security Commission to provide the ground for amending the relevant rules.”

Iran Condemns US-Led Airstrike against Civilians in Iraq’s Kirkuk

Bahram Qassemi

In a statement late on Friday, Qassemi cast doubts over the sincerity of the US-led coalition in its campaign against terrorism in Iraq and the suspicious attack in Kirkuk, which led to the killing of “dozens of innocent people of Iraq”.

He further expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and called on those behind the attack to take responsibility and clarify various aspects of the tragic event.

“Attacking innocent mourners is not acceptable under any excuse…,” the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said.

At least 15 women were killed and scores of other civilians injured when fighter jets operated by the US-led coalition bombarded a mourning procession in Kirkuk.

Local official Amir Huda Karam said the airstrike targeted a Shiite place of worship in the town of Daquq, located approximately 180 kilometers north of the capital Baghdad, on Friday.

Iran Releases 18 Pakistani Fishermen

Iran-Pakistan

Pakistan’s Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Tufail Ahmed Baloch said the fishermen had been arrested on Sunday and were released after negotiations with relevant Iranian authorities in the southern city of Chabahar.

He added that they were released at the Pakistan-Iran border at Taftan, GEO News reported.

Iranian Navy forces monitor all movements of foreign ships that can pass through the Persian Gulf and the country’s territorial waters round the clock.

In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially the ships owned or leased by Iran.

Iran’s Velayati: Islamic Awakening Movement Moving Forward despite Challenges

“Despite all the existing difficulties, problems and crises that have been inflicted on the Islamic governments and nations, the wave of the Islamic awakening is moving forward despite all hurdles and challenges thanks to massive popular support,” Velayati said, addressing a group of Islamic figures, thinkers, elites and scholars in Baghdad on Saturday.

The 9th session of the Islamic Awakening Supreme Council started work in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Saturday. The gathering will last until Sunday.

Velayati, who is also the Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council, added that people’s active presence in the war of truth against falsehood is the key and effective element in Islamic-Arab revolutions inspired by the Islamic Awakening movement in the region.

“Today the Islamic Awakening movement is clearly visible all around the region thanks to Islam; and the Islamic values and the voices against arrogant and bullying powers are the first outcome of the Islamic Awakening in the region,” he said.

Velayati noted that members of the Islamic Awakening Supreme Council attended the Baghdad meeting in a bid to discuss and study different issues in the Islamic world and present strategies to remove the existing hurdles and challenges.

He asked leaders of the Islamic states to seriously pursue decisions made at the Baghdad meeting.

Elsewhere in his speech, Velayati took a look at the history of the awakening movement that has swept the Islamic states in north of Africa and the Middle East, including Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. He said the movement started after the US failure to occupy Afghanistan and its failure to fulfill plans in Iraq and the region, namely the plan to create a New Middle East.

He noted that “opponents and enemies of the Islamic awakening movement formed an Arab-Zionist-American axis and tried to hijack the Islamic movement using different economic, military, political and ideological means.”

“Especially” Velayati said “They used Takfiri (extremist) groups and organized terrorist groups such as Daesh (also known as ISIL) in Syria and Iraq in a bid to pursue divisive plots and contain or derail the Islamic Awakening movement.”

In Yemen and Bahrain, the enemies used violent elements in a bid to suppress the awakening movement, he said, adding that the repressive methods are still underway in the two countries.

The former Iranian foreign minister at the same time reiterated that dividing the region is no more possible through occupation and force because of the high prices for their countries. Therefore, they are trying to use their experience in the occupied Palestinian territories and the establishment of the fake Zionist regime of Israel, he warned.

Velayati explained that in that method, global powers politically and militarily support local rebels in a country against the central government and when these groups ask for independence, they recognize them at the UN or UN Security Council.

“Five years after the start of the Islamic Awakening movement, enemies and opponents of the movement have practically failed to fulfill their divisive plots and reach their goal to contain the movement despite their efforts to organize Takfiri groups as a rival force against the Islamic Awakening movement.”

Velayati also noted that the failure of Daesh and other Takfiri groups in Syria and Iraq will create great opportunities for the Islamic world and boost the people’s spirit for confronting extremist and terrorist groups.

He then emphasized on the key role that the Islamic thinkers, elites and scholars could play in revealing the devilish and inauspicious face of Takfiri groups and confronting these extremist currents.

The remarks came as the Iraqi army troops backed by Hashid al-Shaabi, known as Popular Mobilization Forces, have managed to recapture vast areas south of Mosul from Daesh terrorists.

The Iraqi army launched the offensive on October 16 aimed at wresting Mosul from the hands of Daesh.

“The time has come for the greatest victory,” Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Sunday. “I announce the start of Liberating Mosul Operation, by the will of Iraqis, and after depending on Allah.”

Al-Abadi said that Daesh would be “punished” for its crimes and that the province’s cities and villages will be rebuilt.

“We will rebuild what those criminals have destroyed,” he said. “We will bring life back to Mosul and all other areas around Mosul.”

Though the operation began Sunday, its plans had been known long before.

Iraq’s air force dropped leaflets warning Mosul residents that the liberators are coming, and the Baghdad government directed broadcasts directly into the heart of the occupied city.

Meanwhile, Iraqi forces have circled the country’s second-largest city and cut off any supply -or escape- routes that the Daesh fighters holed-up in Mosul could use.

Scores Killed, Hundreds Injured in Cameroon Train Crash

At least 55 people were killed and nearly 600 injured when an overloaded passenger train travelling between Cameroon’s two largest cities derailed and overturned.

Transport Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngoo said Friday’s accident took place near the central town of Eseka – 120km west of the capital Yaounde – as the train travelled to the economic hub of Douala.

“The cause of the accident is not yet clear,” said the minister, via state broadcaster CRTV, adding that several of the injured were in very serious condition.

Updating an earlier toll, Ngoo said 55 people had been confirmed dead and a further 575 were injured in the incident – several in very serious condition, Al Jazeera reported.

Rail officials said the train had been carrying 1,300 passengers, instead of the usual 600. The collapse of a bridge along the main highway between the capital and Douala had prompted more people to undertake the journey by rail.

Cameroon Train

Passenger Joel Bineli told Reuters news agency he saw three dismembered bodies on the tracks at the accident site.

Photos posted on social media purporting to have been taken at the scene showed several wagons overturned on a slope beside the tracks.

“There was a loud noise. I looked back and the wagons behind us left the rails and started rolling over and over. There was a lot of smoke,” said a Reuters journalist travelling on the train.

He added prior to the train’s departure from Yaounde, a railway employee said eight additional wagons had been added to the normally nine-wagon train in order to accommodate extra passengers.

It remains unclear whether that played a role in the accident.

Cameroon Train

“Intervention and security teams have been mobilised,” the rail company Camrail said.

The route is one of the busiest in the country with trains to Chad and the Central African Republic also using the axis, which has a poor safety record.

In 2014, Cameroon began building its first highway between the two towns, but the work is not due to be completed until 2018.

Javanmardi Voted Best Female Athlete of Month

Sareh Javanmardi

The para-shooter completed a double victory for Iran as compatriot powerlifter Siamand Rahman received the Best Male honor last week.

Javanmardi made history by becoming Iran’s first ever female gold medallist in Paralympic shooting, winning P2 (women’s 10m air pistol SH1). The 31-year-old followed that up with a second gold in P4 (mixed 50m pistol SH1), Paralympic.org wrote.

It was a close race in the public polls between Javanmardi (41 per cent) and Italian wheelchair fencer Beatrice Vio (38 per cent). US Para triathlete Grace Norman was third with 19 per cent of the votes. New Zealand swimmer Sophie Pascoe, Nigerian powerlifter Josephine Orji and Chinese swimmer Li Zhang were also nominated.

In lieu of the IPC Athlete of the Month award for September, the honor is being separated into three different categories – Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete and Best Team – based on results at Rio 2016.

Over 830 Cities and Villages Join Syria Ceasefire

Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in the Syrian Arab Republic has announced that truce agreements have been signed with representatives of 15 inhabited areas of Latakia (8), Hama (6), and al-Quneitra (1) provinces in the Syrian Arab Republic.

According to a report Al Alam News Network, as translated by IFP, the total number of inhabited areas, the leaders of which had signed reconciliation agreements, has reached 832.

The number of ceasefire application forms signed with leaders of armed groupings remained 69.

Iranian Spokesman Slams Bahraini Regime’s Attacks on Al-Wefaq’s Offices

Al-Wefaq

In a statement released on Friday, Qassemi said the Al Khalifa regime’s continued move to adopt security and violent approaches to the religious and political leaders as well as moderate legal societies, which believe in peaceful means, is a “historical and strategic mistake” of the kingdom.

“Once again, we advise the Bahraini officials to put aside their policing approach and pave the way for interactions and serious all-inclusive talks through taking confidence-building measures” he added.

On Thursday, Bahraini regime forces raided the offices of the al-Wefaq, seizing their property.

The attacks came after the Shiite opposition group slammed the Manama authorities for a decision to host an Israeli delegation.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Amnesty International and many other international rights organizations have frequently censured the Bahraini regime for the rampant human rights abuses against opposition groups and anti-regime protesters.
