Iran Leader Warns about Sabotage in Tehran-Baku Ties

Iran’s Leader also called for resistance against the (opponents’) temptations and sabotage saying that bilateral ties and cooperation must be expanded in different fields in a highly motivated way.

Referring to the fact that the majority of the population of the Republic of Azerbaijan are the followers of Ahl al-Bayt (AS) like Iran and Iraq, Ayatollah Khamenei said this great opportunity to hold glorious mourning ceremonies by the Shiites in Azerbaijan must be seized because they give Azerbaijan Republic and its nation more identity.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution also referred to the failure of the Soviet Union in the promotion of Marxism in the Republic of Azerbaijan saying that they failed because of the great faith of the people.

“This year’s glorious ceremony during the month Muharram was an example of the great faith of the Azerbaijani people,” added Iran’s Leader.

For his part, the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev said he feels at home in Iran and touched upon the significant progress made by the two countries in recent years.

“In our relations with Iran, we are absolutely resolute and will not allow anyone to interfere in the relations between the two countries and disrupt them,” underlined Aliyev.

President of Azerbaijan Republic also highlighted the cooperation between the two countries in cultural, economic, investment, energy and transportation sectors saying that his government is involved in efforts to build (more) mosques in the country.

“We are strengthening our economic and cultural ties with Tehran, and we have a fierce determination to make these relations permanent and sustainable,” added Aliyev.

The Iranian president also referred to the previous round of the trilateral meeting in Baku and said the leaders are seriously pursuing the transit project among the three countries as well as Asia and Europe.

If accomplished, he added, the North-South Transport Corridor will connect the two continent of Asia and Europe together.

Rouhani went on saying the three states are seeking to expand their relations in sea and rail transport field and added as the Caspian littoral states, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia can take advantage of the “peace and development” sea.

He then referred to the regional challenges like terrorism, extremism and trans-regional powers’ interference in the  internal affairs of the regional states and said the only way to cope with the challenges is cooperation.

“For the Islamic Republic of Iran, ensuring regional security and fight against terrorism in line with its international partners is of great significance,” he noted.

President Rouhani also referred to the Syria crisis and said Iran calls for political resolution of the crisis in Syria.

“We have been seeking to contribute to peace and stability in Syria through Astana Talks.”

He also stressed that Iran attaches great importance to Iraq’s sovereignty through close cooperation with the central government of Baghdad and warned any division could have dire consequences for all the regional states.

Ways of enhancing cooperation in the areas of commerce, energy, communications, transport and transit were also discussed during the meeting.

Iran, Russia Can Neutralize Sanctions by Using National Currencies: Leader

On a Wednesday meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei welcomed President Putin’s proposal to expand cooperation in all fields stressing that it is needed to take advantage of the useful experience of recent years in regional issues and bilateral relations to consolidate and develop ties.

“In the field of transportation, especially  Chabahar to Saint Petersburg path, and other economic areas, we can have closer cooperation,” said Iran’s Leader.

The leader of the Islamic Revolution also called for cooperation to counter US sanctions against Iran and Russia saying that “without paying heed to the negative propaganda of the enemies to undermine the relations between countries, we can counter US sanctions by methods like eliminating the dollar and replacing the national currency in bilateral or multilateral economic transactions.”

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei also referred to the experience of fruitful cooperation between Iran and Russia in Syria saying that it proved the two countries can meet common goals in difficult situations.

Iran’s Leader said the defeat of US coalition that was supporting terrorists in Syria is an undeniable reality, but they are still busy with conspiring and hatching a new plot.

“Therefore, the complete resolution of the Syrian problem requires sustained close cooperation,” noted Ayatollah Khamenei.

The leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed that the joint resistance of Iran and Russia against Takfiri terrorists, which are supported by some foreign countries, has had important results.

“The good combination of Tehran and Moscow’s resistance against the sedition and corruption of the terrorists in Syria is very significant, and has turned Russia into an influential country in the West Asian region,” underlined the Iranian Leader.

Russia Friendly Neighbour, Strategic Partner of Iran: Rouhani

In a Wednesday meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is on a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran to attend the trilateral meeting of Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan, Rouhani said Tehran, Moscow and Baku’s trilateral relations play a very important role in regional affairs and expansion of cooperation in different areas.

“Iran has reached good agreements in various sectors, including energy, peaceful nuclear technologies, transportation and transit. We should step up our efforts to implement these agreements and develop collaborations more,” said Rouhani.

Iran’s president emphasized the importance of developing Iran-Russia cooperation, especially economic and trade ties, saying that Tehran welcomes the active participation of Russian investors and private sector in important infrastructural projects, including the industrial and energy-related ones, the development of railways, and the North-South corridor.

The Iranian president also underlined that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a multilateral agreement and its sustainability is very important for regional and international peace and stability. He also touched upon the role of Russia in consolidating the compliance of all parties with the nuclear deal.

Rouhani also referred to the role of Iran and Russia in the fight against terrorism in Syria, stressing that the cooperation between Tehran and Moscow has had a great impact on the process of fighting terrorism in the region, and these collaborations and consultations play a very significant role in the final stages of the campaign.

Referring to the Astana Process, Iran’s president said the multilateral, regional and international cooperation between Iran and Russia is of great significance in resolving the issues and crises.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that instability in the region is harmful to all countries, and will support the promotion of stability and security in the region. In the context of these collaborations, today it is clear to the world that security and peace in Syria must be restored through diplomacy.”

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin first thanked the Islamic Republic for hosting the trilateral meeting, saying that Iran is a neighbour and a strategic partner of Russia, and Moscow has many common interests in developing relations and partnerships with Tehran.

Referring to the necessity of developing cooperation between Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan in the transportation, transit and north-south corridor projects, the Russian president said the trilateral meeting of the presidents of Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan could lead to the development of joint relations and collaborations in this sector.

Putin further added that relations and cooperation between Tehran and Moscow have been growing in various sectors, including energy, economy, peaceful nuclear activities and rail and road transport.

“Russian companies are interested in actively participating in Iran’s development projects, and there is no limit to the development of all-embracing relations with Iran. Russia welcomes the process,” added Putin.

The Russian president also noted that based on statistics, trade between the two countries, especially in 2016, has grown significantly, and this trend must continue and accelerate.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Putin described the JCPOA as a very good collective agreement in line with the global peace and stability.

“The non-compliance of some countries with their international obligations is by no means acceptable. We do believe that unilateral disruption of the deal will not be acceptable on any pretext. Moreover, the nuclear agreement has nothing to do with Iran’s defence and missile programs,” stressed Putin.

He also underpinned that the IAEA is the only reference for Iran’s adherence to the deal.

Finally, the Russian president referred to the process of fighting terrorism in Syria and emphasized that the role of Russia, Iran and Turkey should be supported within the framework of Astana Talks.
