Iran Produces Nano-Absorbers to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emission

Iran Produces Nano-Absorbers to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emission

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas which accounts for about 82 percent of the greenhouse gases in the world. Given the fact that the amount of the gas is growing fast in the earth’s atmosphere, the necessity to control the gas has gained momentum over the past years. To this end, a number of Iranian scientists have managed to find a way to limit the emission of the greenhouse gases, particularly CO2.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the IUST, Mansour Anbia, says exploring new ways to separate carbon dioxide from different gas flows is inevitable particularly when it comes to Iran with its huge amount of activities in oil and gas fields, a Farsi report by ISNA said.

He went on saying nanoporous materials play a key role in separation processes of the greenhouse gasses and added the materials enjoy a high capacity to be used in the separation process.

Anbia stressed that the method offered by the Iranian scientists is totally practical and also cost-effective and environment-friendly.

“In our studies, we used MOF-199 for absorbing CO2 and CH4,” he noted.

The new nano-absorbers are produced in a cost-effective way and are capable of absorbing a high level of greenhouse gases. Today, more than 90 percent of the required energies in the world including power and heat are made out of fossil fuels and this in turn has dramatically increased the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Anbia and his team have published their research paper in Energy & Fuels journal with a 3.09 impact factor.

Masoud Barzani Condoles with General Soleimani over Father’s Death

In his Sunday message, Barzani offered sympathy to General Soleimani and his bereaved family, wishing good health for the Iranian commander.

Barzani and General Soleimani had reportedly held several meetings before the Iraqi Kurdistan’s independence vote in late September. General Soleimani, according to various sources, repeatedly warned Erbil of the consequences of the referendum, which finally led to Barzani’s resignation.

Hundreds of top Iranian officials and military chiefs on Sunday attended a memorial ceremony held for the late father of General Soleimani in Tehran. A number of foreign envoys also took part in the ceremony, and some like Syrian President Bashar al-Assad sent wreaths to offer their condolences.

Here are photos of the memorial ceremony retrieved from various news agencies:

What Prompted Hariri to Resign after Meeting with Iranian Envoy?

Velayati-Saad Hariri

A source close to Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior aid to Iran’s Leader, has revealed the secret contents of a Friday meeting between Velayati and Lebanese PM Saad Hariri.

“Hariri, who had just came back from his trip to Saudi Arabia, held talks with the Iranian envoy in Beirut and immediately left the Lebanese capital for Riyadh to announce his resignation through Saudi media,” the source said.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also said during the talks in Beirut, Hariri raised Saudi Arabia’s demands, urging Iran to stop supporting the oppressed nation of Yemen and improve its ties with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council members.

“In response, Velayati called on Hariri to have the Saudis stop their airstrikes against the innocent and besieged nation of Yemen and establish dialogue with the Yemenis to resolve the crisis underway in the country,” the source told the Fars News Agency.

According to the source, with their inappropriate demands, Hariri and the Saudis expected Iran to leave alone the Yemenis to their fate “but after receiving Iran’s negative response, the Saudis called back Hariri and urged him to resign.”

Referring to the resignation letter of Hariri, the source went on saying a short review of the wording of the letter leaves no doubt that it was the Saudis who had dictated the resignation on Hariri.

“Hariri hoped that he could convince Iran on the part of Saudi Arabian officials to stop its opposition to the inhumane policies of Riyadh towards Yemen including conducting airstrikes against the innocent women and children and imposing siege on the impoverished nation which is suffering from lack of food and medicines. But after facing Iran’s strong objection, he decided to resign,” the source noted.

The informed source also referred to the scarcity of basic medicines and foods in Yemen and said today 700,000 people in Yemen are being infected with cholera. “The Islamic Republic of Iran is not ready to withdraw its support for the oppressed people of Yemen.”

IRGC Chief-Commander Rejects Trump’s ‘Baseless’ Claim

IRGC Chief-Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari on Sunday rejected Donald Trump’s claim that Iran was behind the missile attack on Riyadh, saying the claim is baseless.

“It is basically not possible for the Islamic Republic to transfer missile to Yemen. These missiles are made by Yemenis and their military industries,” General Jafari noted, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a funeral ceremony held in Tehran for General Qassem Soleimani’s father.

Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami also rejected the allegations and said that the enemies use every opportunity to make accusations against Iran.

“The US blames Iran for every single development in the Middle East,” he told reporters during the same ceremony, saying such claims are not unlikely of the enemies.

“Does anyone ask the US what it is supplying Saudi Arabia with,” he asked.

Saudi Arabia says it has intercepted a ballistic missile fired over capital Riyadh by‌ Houthi fighters from Yemen, an attack Trump immediately blamed on Iran.

The missile was brought down near King Khaled International Airport on the northern outskirts of the city and did not cause any casualties, state-owned Al Ekhbariya TV reported.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels fired the missile across Saudi Arabia’s southern border, according to several Houthi-owned media outlets, including Al-Masirah and SABA.

It is the first time a Houthi missile has come so close to a heavily populated area and appears to be the farthest such a missile has reached inside Saudi Arabia. Riyadh is around 620 miles (1,000km) north of the border with Yemen.

Responding to the attack, Trump immediately blamed Iran.

“A shot was just taken by Iran, in my opinion, at Saudi Arabia. And our system knocked it down,” the US President said, referring to the Patriot missile batteries Saudi Arabia has purchased from the US.

“That’s how good we are. Nobody makes what we make and now we’re selling it all over the world.”

Iran to Pull Out of NPT If Sanction Reinstated: MP

In a recent address to the Iranian parliament, Mojtaba Zonnouri read out the third report by the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and said the world witnessed that Tehran gave up its rights under the NPT to sit for talks with world powers to resolve the existing problems over its nuclear programs.

“Today, we see that the US is making mischief by depriving Iran of its legal rights under the JCPOA and imposing new sanctions on our country,” the representative of Qom was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by ICANA.

Zonnouri went on saying that Iranian parliament has found at least 26 cases of JCPOA violation by the US including extending the D’Amato Law (the Iran Sanctions Act) and imposing sanctions on Iran’s defence capabilities.

The US must know that the Iranian lawmakers will not remain silent towards its aggression, he noted.

“To this end, we have drafted two plans to cope with the US violations: First, we will call for a revision in our cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and second, we will withdraw from the NPT.”

He also said Iran will also pull out of the JCPOA if its interests are not met by the treaty; however, he added, our retreat doesn’t mean that we will get back to the first square.

Zonnouri noted the US officials should know the fact that Iranian lawmakers are ready to oblige the government to get out of the NPT if they don’t stick to their commitments.

He said Iran is legally entitled to leave the NPT and the Additional Protocol and limit IAEA’s access to its nuclear sites.

“We will not allow the foreigners to take advantage of our nations’ nobility. So, pulling out of the NPT is among our options,” he concluded.

Saudi Princes, Ministers Detained in Five-Star Hotel: Report

In its Sunday report, the HuffPost Arabi said the hotel which used to host US President Donald Trump and his family as well as many other foreign guests has given leave to its staff as of 11 am, November 4. This has sparked allegations that the hotel has turned into a safe house for interrogating the nabbed princes and ministers.

The HuffPost Arabi also referred to a report published by the New York Times on the closure of airports for private planes, arousing speculations that the government was seeking to block rich businessmen from fleeing before making the arrests.

The report further noted that in the website of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, there is a notice saying all the rooms have been reserved, leading the visitors to the website of other hotels.

Saudi Arabia announced the arrest of the leading billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal as well as at least 10 other princes, four ministers and tens of former ministers. The arrests were made by Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Corruption Committee.

The committee, headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was formed by royal decree earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has dismissed several senior ministers, including those in charge of the kingdom’s National Guard, and economy and planning.

Iran Sympathizes with Syria over Deir ez-Zor Terror Attack

In a Sunday statement, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi condoled with the Syrian nation and government and the families of those killed and wounded in the ISIS car bombing in a refugee camp in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor.

“Such inhumane and brutal acts by the ISIS terrorist group are clear indication of the group’s frustration and defeat,” Qassemi said, adding that the end of ISIS is near thanks to the resistance and unity of the Syrian nation and government.

Dozens of refugees were killed and scores injured by a car bomb in the suburbs of Deir ez-Zor on Saturday, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported.
The bombing targeted the largest refugee gathering in the region, Sana reported. The blast occurred in the outskirts of the city, in the area near Conoco and al-Jafra gas fields.
The agency said that “large numbers of children and women” fell victim to the explosion, citing its own correspondent at the scene.
The assailant reportedly rammed the car, rigged with explosives, into the crowd before it blew up.

Gov’t to Continue Supporting Iranian Armed Forces: Rouhani

Gov't to Continue Supporting Iranian Armed Forces

“The [Iranian] government and nation have confidence in the Army as faithful and self-sacrificing armed forces and the government will continue its support for the Armed Forces,” Rouhani said in a meeting with high-ranking Army commanders on Saturday.

He added that the Armed Forces should also stand by the administration in any sector deemed necessary and help the executive branch of the government run the country’s affairs.

The Iranian chief executive described public trust and affiliation with no particular political party as the “biggest assets” of the country’s Army.

Rouhani commended the Armed Forces’ performance after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, particularly during the eight-year Iraqi war on Iran in the 1980s.

US President Donald Trump delivered an anti-Iran speech on October 13, in which he said he would not continue to certify Iran’s compliance with the terms of the multilateral nuclear deal, reached under his predecessor Barack Obama, and warned that he might ultimately terminate the agreement.

Trump also announced sanctions on Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), which he accused of destabilizing the Middle East and threatening American interests in the region.

Senior Iranian officials slammed Washington’s move against the IRGC, with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif saying Iranian people from all walks of life strongly supported the defenders of the country and the region against terrorism.

The IRGC is a branch of the Iranian Armed Forces, a standing army of a United Nations member state. It has been effectively providing military advisory support for the elected governments of Iraq and Syria in their battles against various groups of extremist militants.

Some of those militant groups are widely reported to be receiving logistical, financial, and other forms of support from the US government, particularly in Syria, where Washington has attempted but failed to have the Syrian government toppled.
